Charlie Wright’s casting as Rodrick Heffley in the fourth live-action Diary of a Wimpy Kid film sparked the #NotMyRodrick meme, which the actor claimed had “ruined my career”. In a video about the incident that was uploaded on YouTube and TikTok on Sunday, the actor addressed the harsh criticism he received after playing Rodrick Heffley in what is considered to be his first public statement.
In the nine-minute clip, Wright talked about the negative reaction that followed the initial release of David Bowers’ Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul trailer in early 2017. This revelation has sparked outrage among fans, who are now calling for a much-needed change in the entertainment industry.

With Christmas just around the corner, almost like clockwork, a flurry of related animated movies and specials are getting released, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise is the latest one to follow suit. Based on the bestselling book series of the same name written by Jeff Kinney, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated movie series follows the misadventures of middle-schooler Greg Heffley and his simpleton, good-natured friend Rowley Jefferson. Narrative wise, the third entry in the animated movie trilogy, Cabin Fever, is definitely an improvement over the second entry, Rodrick Rules, and that’s primarily because of the festive charm captured through family dynamics. However, the trademark wit imbued in the source material through Jeff Kinney’s characterization was majorly missing in the movie, which was somewhat balanced out by the heart and an alternate, comparatively better ending than the book. Although the black-and-white line art animation...

The perpetual troubles of a prepubescent protagonist are humorously placed at the center of Disney Plus’ “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” After a successful run of four live-action features adapted from Jeff Kinney’s popular book series, director Swinton Scott refurbishes the franchise as an animated feature, and while the wholesome-minded product feels a tad redundant, it establishes its own identity, occasionally improving upon its cinematic predecessor enough to make it a worthwhile watch.
Scrawny, awkward tween Greg Heffley (Brady Noon) has always tried to avoid embarrassment as much as humanly possible, but life has a funny way of continually making him the butt of the joke. He’s currently sweating his social standing, and the bright red diary his mother bought him isn’t helping matters as it looks far less cool than an inconspicuous journal. He’s hoping that chronicling his pre-teen exploits will serve as the basis...

Disney+ finally launched in the UK during the last week of March with a fairly robust library that included a massive collection of The Simpsons from its recently-acquired Fox catalogue, but there was a little rough with the smooth, as the streaming service decided to include just two episodes of its flagship Star Wars live-action series, The Mandalorian, and there were some clear discrepancies between the bonuses of being a Us and UK subscriber – there hasn’t yet been a peep out of Disney+ on the whereabouts of Frozen 2, nor has there yet been any news of a premiere date for Pixar’s Onward or Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Also in the wind is the possibility that Marvel’s Black Widow, which has been removed from the theatrical release schedule due to the Covid-19 pandemic, might end up streaming on Disney+. As it stands, this...
