Kirigan launched his final attack against Alina and Nikolai's forces and hoped Alina wouldn't have the heart to kill Mal herself.
Kirigan was partially correct, as Alina did not want to kill Mal on Shadow and Bone Season 2 Episode 7.
Luckily, Tamar devised a plan that could potentially harness his power as an amplifier while keeping him alive.
Too bad things didn't work out for that plan to get its chance to work.
Kirigan's final attack involved a trap for Nikolai and moving the fold to engulf Alina and Nikolai's base camp.
Kirigan also managed to visit Mal within one of Mal's dreams as a projection.
We assume Kirigan could do this because they are blood relatives, but their connection was unclear.
This prompted Mal to announce to the entirety of Alina's crew that the firebird is not a creature but a bloodline (his bloodline).

The third to last episode of Shadow and Bone's second season did not disappoint.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 Episode 6 saw a central character's death and the epic Firebird reveal.
The Crows also dealt with their significant discovery while repairing some relationships in Durat fashion.
We got no update on Matthias besides him burying his old cellmate killed by Pekka Rollins, but we hope Nina can find a way to free him soon.
If they are following the end of the Shadow and Bone Trilogy adaptation with Six Of Crows, Matthias may have to wait the rest of the season out in Hellgate.
The Shadow and Bone Trilogy is quickly wrapping up on the television show, with the Firebird's identity being revealed and the final battle with Kirigan looming.
This battle promises to be an epic showdown, with the fight between light and darkness taking center stage.

Alina, Nikolai, and their crew stayed safe in the tunnels after Kirigan's attack.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 Episode 5 saw Alina try and break the bond that still linked her and Kirigan.
Luckily, she had help from one of the most powerful amplifiers in the entire Grishaverse: Baghra.
Baghra and Genya managed to find their way to the underground tunnels to save themselves from Kirigan's wrath.
Alina welcomed Genya with open arms, but Nikolai hesitated to trust the talented tailor.
Upon learning Genya's name, Nikolai wanted to arrest her for the poisoning of (and attempted murder of) his father, the King.
Alina immediately stood up for Genya as she saw the horrible new scars on the girl's face that Kirigan had left her.
Nikolai backed down and apologized, but his anger was understandable.
Genya did poison his father over a long period, but it was because he was under the manipulation and control of General Kirigan.

This post contains spoilers for season 2 of Netflix's "Shadow and Bone."
"Oh, I do love a challenge," says Jesper Fahey (Kit Young) in season 1 of "Shadow and Bone," before twirling his dual pistols and blasting away at enemies. An expert sharpshooter who never misses his mark, Jesper is a vital member of the Crows of Ketterdam, who are on a mission to aid Alina Starkov (Jesse Mei Li) in the latest season of the Netflix fantasy series. When not busy gambling his hard-earned Kruge away and hugging Milo the goat, Jesper spends most of his time being effortlessly skillful during tense shootouts and dangerous missions.
While the first season hinted that there's more than meets the eye to Jesper's impressive abilities, season 2 confirms that he's Grisha — a Fabrikator who can manipulate metals, among other things, to change their texture and composition.

This article contains spoilers for Shadow and Bone season 2.
It’s understandable that before fans get into a Netflix show nowadays, they want to know whether the show will have another season or whether they’ll be stuck with another cliffhanger ending that will never be continued. Yes we’re talking about Julie and the Phantoms, First Kill, Partner Track, and so much more. But with a show like Shadow and Bone, where we have a whole universe’s worth of stories to pull from and a strong fan base, viewers will be happy to hear that back when showrunner Eric Heisserer pitched the show for Netflix, he told them his ideas for a three-season series.
If you’re yet to start Shadow and Bone or have forgotten the premise since season one, Shadow and Bone is Alina Starkov’s (Jessie Mei Li) story based on a book series of...

Alina and Mal found a bit of peace, but that quickly got foiled when Alina learned her nightmares were real.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 Episode 1 saw Alina dreaming of Kirigan inside the fold while the Crows dealt with their issues.
Pekka managed to kill the woman whose name was on the deed for the Crow Club, which means the club now was his: as was Inej's contract.
Mal and Alina continued their romance, but their romantic interactions kept getting interrupted by multiple outside occurrences.
Both of them managed to get caught, causing them to flee the land they had just arrived in.
We didn't see much of the Zemeni side of things, so hopefully, they get brought back into the future. Just as Alina did, we learned that the Zemeni consider their magic users blessed and don't categorize them.
The Zemeni saved Alina and Mal later in the episode, much to everyone's surprise.

The following contains Shadow and Bone spoilers.
The second season of Shadow and Bone is absolutely jam-packed with big moments of both the emotional and the magical variety, adapting the events of two of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels (Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising) and adding multiple shocking new twists entirely of its own making along the way.
Let’s break down what happened in the Shadow and Bone Season 2 finale and all the questions we have about what it might mean for the show going forward.
Surprise! Mal is the Firebird — and a Descendent of Morozova
Alina’s mission during much of Season 2 is to find the two other ancient mystical creatures tied to Ilya Morozova, a character from Bardugo’s books that the show has sort of mentioned multiple times in passing but never fully explained in any great detail. Suffice it to say, the three creatures—the Stag,...

Jessie Mei Li is a name that's back on everyone's lips again, and it's for good reason. She's the star of Netflix's book-to-tv adaptation of "Shadow and Bone," which premieres its highly anticipated second season on March 16. The fantasy show is based on a series of Grishaverse novels written by author Leigh Bardugo, which cover themes like friendship, sexuality, and race. Li plays the role of Alina Starkov, a "sun summoner" who is one of the most powerful beings that ever lived.
In a 2021 roundtable interview with Popsugar, the actor shared that her lived experience helped to inform the way she portrays her character. "[Alina] wants to save the world to validate herself as a member of this nation. It really felt true to my life. As a mixed-race person, it's part of who I am," she said. "It shaped who I am. It shapes my personality, but it's not everything that I am.
