It was a big night for Lainey Wilson at the ACM Awards. She opened the show with a bang and then capped her evening by winning the coveted “Entertainer of the Year” award.
Wilson opened the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards with a cover of Little Texas’s 1993 hit, God Blessed Texas, along with her own Hang Tight Honey.
The singer was up for four awards this year and won three. It continues her hot hand at the ACMs. In 2023, she was the most-nominated artist and took home the most trophies.

Luke Combs is the man of the hour. The 59th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday morning, April 9, and Combs came out on top with eight bids, including Entertainer of the Year. Check out the complete list of nominations here.
This is Combs’s fifth nomination in a row for Entertainer of the Year, an award he has yet to win. This year he’s up against Kane Brown, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and lone female nominee Lainey Wilson. Women are consistently underrepresented in Entertainer of the Year, though Carrie Underwood won in 2020 (in a tie with Thomas Rhett) and Miranda Lambert finally prevailed in 2022. But we mustn’t underestimate Wilson here. She pulled off a huge upset at the CMA Awards last fall, claiming Entertainer of the Year despite being relatively new on the scene.

On average, Thomas Rhett has scored a Number One song on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart every six months for the past decade, explaining the title of his recent 20 Number Ones compilation. He repeated the trick again earlier this year with “Angels (Don’t Always Have Wings),” bringing his total up to 21, and hopes to repeat it with a new single, “Mamaw’s House,” which finds him duetting with country lightning rod (and stadium headliner) Morgan Wallen.

Hardy leads the pack with seven nominations this year, including Song of the Year and Artist-Songwriter of the Year, sharing three of those noms with collaborator Lainey Wilson for their song, “wait in the truck.” For her part, Wilson received six nods — the most for a female artist this year — including Female Artist of the Year.
Meanwhile, Miranda Lambert was breaking records before the telecast even kicked off. The “If I Was a Cowboy” singer received her 17th Female Artist of the Year nomination, passing the record 16 nominations previously held by Reba McEntire. Lambert had five nominations total this year and the opportunity to shatter even more records as the trophies are doled out.

Morgan Wallen follows up Dangerous: The Double Album with what can arguably be called a triple: One Thing at a Time, loaded with 36 tracks, drops March 3rd.
Among the glut of songs on the album is Wallen’s current hit “You Proof,” the song he wrote for his mother, “Thought You Should Know,” and one he recently teased from a hunting blind on social media, “Keith Whitley,” named after the Country Music Hall of Fame singer who died from alcohol poisoning in 1989.

Tyler Hubbard has extolled the joys of country living in myriad ways as the lead singer of Florida Georgia Line, scoring hits with country-pop juggernauts like “Cruise,” “This Is How We Roll,” and “’Round Here.” For his solo debut “5 Foot 9,” Hubbard gets in touch with his softer side and thanks his maker for the most precious things in his life.
Written by Hubbard with Cadillac Three leader Jaren Johnston and Chase McGill, “5 Foot 9” is driven by fingerstyle acoustic guitar that pushes the rhythm along. Even when the full band kicks in,...

The producers of the CMT Music Awards have had their share of challenges to contend with this year, from the Grammys bumping them out of Las Vegas and back to Nashville, to co-host Kelsea Ballerini testing positive for Covid and being forced to emcee remotely from her home.

Gary Allan will release his first album in eight years with Ruthless, a collection of 13 songs due June 25th. It’s the follow-up to 2013’s Set You Free and follows a string of one-off singles he has released beginning in 2015.
The album news arrives with the record’s lead-off track, “Temptation.” Written by Nicolle Galyon, Chase McGill, and Jon Nite, it’s a pulsing mid-tempo song with emphatic drum hits and atmospheric string sounds. “I’m over getting drunk on you, but I’m always gonna miss that taste,” Allan sings.

Next month, country singer Justin Moore will be releasing Straight Outta the Country, the singer’s first collection of new music since his 2019 album Late Nights and Longnecks. The record was produced by Moore’s longtime collaborator Jeremy Stover.
The singer announced the album on his podcast earlier today. “We had three times as many songs as we put on the last album,” Moore said. “This, to me, is just kind of an extension of that album. I think if people loved the last one, they’re gonna also love this one.

Thomas Rhett is the latest country singer to go big with plans for a double album. The project’s first half, Country Again: Side A, will be available April 30th and includes the lead single “What’s Your Country Song,” along with two newly released tracks, “Growing Up” and “Want It Again.”
Where several of Rhett’s hit singles over the last few years have leaned toward the progressive edge of pop production and songcraft, “Growing Up” almost sounds like an obscurity plucked from the back half of a forgotten Nineties album.

After nearly three months of teasing and a chain-store “leak,” Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album — in all its 30-track glory — was released on Friday. One of the most anticipated tracks pairs Wallen with Chris Stapleton. “Only Thing That’s Gone,” written by Wallen with Matt Dragstrem, Chase McGill, and Josh Thompson, delivers a heavy dose of country-soul.
Wallen kicks off the mid-tempo slow-burner, relaying a breakup tale to a sympathetic bartender. “She told me where I could go/just stopped in here before I went,” he sings. Stapleton...

For the country singer Justin Moore, veterans are not a foreign concept. Both of the songwriter’s grandfathers served in the military (“one Air Force and one Navy,” says the singer), so when Moore was searching for songs for his 2019 album Late Nights and Longnecks, he knew he wanted to include a tribute to fallen service members. The result was “The Ones Who Didn’t Make It Back Home,” which hit Number One at country radio and has turned into an anthem of sorts for the singer.

An unapologetic, autobiographical anthem, “What You See Is What You Get” finds the North Carolina native spelling out his identity in plain English. “I’m a straight-shooting, beer drinking, rule-breaking, don’t think I won’t take a good thing too far,” he sings in the pre-chorus. “I’m a midnighting, backsliding, getaway-car-driving, running away with your heart.” It’s the chorus though that ties it all together,...
