One day after being named the runner-up of “American Idol” Season 17, Alejandro Aranda has announced the schedule for his nationwide tour. The tour will begin in Washington, DC on July 8 and then continue on to New York, Massachusetts, Illinois and California. Alejandro’s final show will take place — where else? — in his hometown of Pomona, CA on July 17. See the full schedule below. Following his announcement, “American Idol” judge Katy Perry, aka Alejandro’s #1 fan, commented on Instagram, “Let me be a roadie pls.”
SEEEven though he lost ‘American Idol,’ Alejandro Aranda just changed the game. Forever.
Unknown at this point is whether any of Alejandro’s “American Idol” competitors will join him on the tour, including winner Laine Hardy or third-place finisher Madison Vandenburg. In one of his first interviews since winning “American Idol” Season 17, country singer Laine Hardy just told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that he can’t wait to “get started working on music.” Laine took the red eye from Los Angeles to New York City in order to appear on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” in the wee hours of Monday morning. “I slept like three hours on the way here,” the 18-year-old mumbled to the morning hosts while donning his flowered suit jacket. Watch the interview above, which also includes Laine’s performance of his original song “Flame.”

One of the most viral contestants of “American Idol” this season was someone who didn’t even make it to the live shows: Shayy. This 18-year-old high school student from Midlothian, Va recently lost her vision due to a brain tumor, which the doctors were only partially able to remove. Shayy’s initial audition of Andra Day‘s “Rise Up” was the most-watched audition of Season 17, which is why it was so shocking to see her eliminated in the Hawaii showcase round. The good news for “American Idol” fans is that Shayy returned during Sunday’s season finale to perform “Rise Up” with — who else? — the original singer herself. Watch the video above.

American Idol wrapped its 17th season on Sunday, delivering a three-hour extravaganza filled with live music, familiar faces and, as always, crippling disappointment.
In addition to the three remaining contestants — Alejandro Aranda, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg — a number of eliminated singers also returned to perform in the finale. Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon joined forces with Katy Perry, while Laci Kaye Booth shared the stage with Luke Bryan. Dimitrius Graham also came back to sing with Adam Lambert, while Alyssa Raghu performed with Kane Brown, and Uché got his dance on with Kool & the Gang.

The “American Idol” finale airs live nationwide on ABC beginning at 5 p.m. Pt/8 p.m. Et Sunday, May 19. The Top 3 contestants still in the running for the season 16 title are Alejandro Aranda, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg. Each of this trio of hopefuls will perform three songs on the three-hour final.
We expect that the first will be in tribute to their hometowns, which they returned to this week; the second will be an encore of a performance that went well earlier in the season; and the third will be their respective winner’s singles. But those nine tunes won’t be the only music you hear that night.
Each of the judges will raise their voice in song. Katy Perry will sing with Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, who made it as far as the Top 6. Lionel Richie will be backed by the Top 10. And Luke Bryan will duet with Laci Kaye Booth,...

Everything comes with an expiration date, including the American Idol judges’ coveted save, and Sunday’s episode marked their final opportunity to use it this season. Six singers remained atop the two-hour event, but as we learned from last week’s double elimination of Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu, no one — not even someone the judges love enough to nickname — is ever really safe.

Even after all these years, “American Idol” is still TV’s most-watched reality show. Per TV By The Numbers, ABC’s “Idol” topped all others for the final week of April with 2.0 million viewers in the all-important 18-49 demographic. In fact, it was the #2 program of the week in that age group behind only “The Big Bang Theory” with 2.3 million. As for its closest reality TV competition in the demo, “Survivor” came in with 1.9 million while “The Voice” (Monday) scored 1.5 million and “The Voice” (Tuesday) earned 1.2 million.

Will Madison VanDenburg attempt Janis Joplin‘s version of “Summertime”? Will Wade Cota try Joe Cocker‘s rendition of “With a Little Help From My Friends”? How about Laci Kaye Booth channeling Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane on “Somebody to Love”?
Here is hoping Alejandro Aranda — who would do well to check out the Richie Havens songbook — kept that tie-dyed jacket from last week handy’ That is because the Top 6 contestants will be diving into a vat of acid-laced and mud-covered nostalgia as they salute the 50th anniversary of Woodstock on the May 5 episode of “American Idol.”
And I dare Laine Hardy to perform “The Weight” again in honor of The Band — although I am guessing he might pick a Creedence Clearwater Revival number like “Born on the Bayou” or “Green River.” As for Jeremiah Lloyd Johnson, perhaps a little Crosby, Stills & Nash might suit his angelic voice.

“There was a lot of outrage over Walker being sent home,” says Gold Derby contributor Denton Davidson when discussing the recent elimination of both Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu on Season 17 of “American Idol.” “A lot of people thought Wade [Cota] should have been the one to go,” he continues. “People are saying the judges should have used their save on Walker.” Davidson joins senior editors Marcus James Dixon and Susan Wloszczyna to discuss the most recent eliminations, the recently revealed Top 6 and who the judges might save now.
“I think Wade thinks he should have gone home!” Wloszczyna jokes. “It was not a good night for dear Wade. I don’t think any of that [Queen] music really suited him. I don’t think Alyssa deserved to have him as a singing partner because [‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’] was not meant for his voice. It was like two people doing karaoke separately because they never meshed as a couple singing.

On a night beset by forgotten lyrics, a dearth of commanding stage presence and disjointed duets, it was judge Katy Perry who made the biggest faux pas on the show where the Top 8 were whittled down to 6, according to 27% of “American Idol” fans.
The awkward moment came after Season 17’s cute country dude Laine Hardy and throaty darling Laci Kaye Booth trilled the Johnny and June Carter Cash’s “Jackson” from the biopic “Walk the Line,” about a quickie marriage that has cooled, as their movie duet (see video above). Judge Lionel Richie applauded Laci’s sassiness as well as the pair’s comfort in doing the song together.
But Katy dared to go a step farther, as she stated, “Yeah, I would say you guys are connected. I’ve never seen you smile that large, Laine. I’d be wondering if something else … listen that’s what you want people to feel.

What could have been a brilliant show on “American Idol” last night ended up being a series of missed opportunities and bone-headed choices — with just enough fine performances in-between to keep you watching.
Like many, I was looking forward to watching Season 8 runner-up and current Queen front man Adam Lambert help the remaining eight wannabe stars step up their game as they tackle the iconic British rock band’s catalog of songs. But it didn’t take long after the contestants sang “We Will Rock You” during the opening for me to realize that this episode might be a rocky enterprise at best.

Queen frontman and “‘American Idol’ legend,” to quote host Ryan Seacrest, returned to where it all started to mentor the current season’s top eight finalists for a Queen-themed night of hits.
It’s hard to believe that just 10 years ago, Lambert first performed with Queen on the “Idol” stage and began his journey with the legendary band. The story of his rise from reality show star to international rock star will be explored in a documentary airing on ABC Monday night (April 29): “The Show Must Go On: The Queen and Adam Lambert Story.”
Lambert marked the occasion with the debut of a new, long-haired look, which, coupled with a classic poofy shirt, took contestant Walker Burroughs by surprise. “You look like a pirate,” he exclaimed.
Ever the gentleman, Lambert remained unfazed, immediately putting Burroughs at ease for his mentoring session.
As a mentor, Lambert is a true scene stealer.

Hey, "American Idol" fans. Happy Sunday. Your top 8 finalists definitely did compete tonight, April 28, 2019, and after it was all said and done, only 6 were left standing. They performed songs from the Queen catalog. Former season 8 runner up and current Queen lead singer ,Adam Lambert, mentored the Idol finalists this week. The viewing audience ,once again, watched Live and voted simultaneously to ultimately vote out two unfortunate contestants. The judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were, of course, on hand, and they still all had the opportunity to use a "save" on one of the singers to keep them in the competition if they got voted out. Tonight's show kicked off with the top 8 contestants performing a group number. They sang one of Queen's very classic hit songs, "We Will Rock You." After that, contestant Walker Burrough hit the stage to sing, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Katy told him,...

Voting for the Top 6 on “American Idol” begins at the start of the live nationwide broadcast on Sunday, April 28. You will only have until the last commercial break of Queen Night to cast votes for your favorites. There are three ways to make your voice heard via the app, online and text.
You can vote up to 10 times per method for each of the remaining eight contestants. This means you can cast up to 30 votes for each and every artist that you want to see continue in season 17. And you can reallocate your votes throughout the evening as the Top 8 perform both a Queen song and a movie song duet with one of the other contestants. All you have to do is click “save” each time that you change your choices.

Things are not looking good for “the sauce.” After failing to earn the support of the “American Idol” audience during Top 14 week, Alyssa Raghu had to be saved by judge Katy Perry. Then in Top 10 week Alyssa was the last singer deemed safe by host Ryan Seacrest (though those results were in no particular order). Now, on the eve of Top 8 night, Alyssa once again seems to be on the bubble as she has leading 1/4 odds of being eliminated, according to Gold Derby’s exclusive predictions. If that happens, will the judges use their final save on Alyssa?

Alyssa Raghu is all but certain to face elimination on “American Idol” this Sunday according to the results of our poll of viewers. She was the last artist revealed to make the Top 8 on last Sunday’s Disney Night episode. And she has earned only a measly 2% in our survey of “American Idol” fans heading into Queen Night on April 28.
The other contestant joining her in the bottom two is likely to be Walker Burroughs who merited a mere 3% in our poll results. Each can only avoid elimination if they are saved by judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie who can invoke this power just one time in season 17.
All eight singers still in the competition will take to the stage on Sunday to sing a song from the back catalogue of the band Queen and then do duets with each other on classic movie tunes. Of the other six,...

The “American Idol” Top 8 will sing Queen songs and also duet with another contestant on a movie tune as they vie for your votes on Sunday April 28. Only six of them will make it to the next stage of the competition and continue on in their quest to be crowned season 17 winner. Early favorite Alejandro Aranda, whose audition video went viral, is far out front in our viewers poll. But while he still takes a commanding 39% of the total tally, Laine Hardy has jumped up to 22% support.
The only other contestants to crack double digits in our power rankings are Wade Cota with 11% and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon at 10%. Laci Kaye Booth and Madison VanDenburg each have a lucky 7%. The two contestants all but certain to be sent eliminated on Sunday’s show are Walker Burroughs (3%) and Alyssa Raghunandan (2%).

Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu are likely to leave “American Idol” this Sunday according to our survey of viewers. They rank the lowest among the Top 8 with Walker earning only 3% of the vote in our poll while Alyssa is last at 2%. They will only avoid elimination if they are saved by the judges.
Of the other six singers still in the running, only two others — Laci Kaye Booth and Madison VanDenburg — look like they are vulnerable. Laci has just 6% support while Madison is at 9%. Combined, these four contestants have earned just 20% of the total tally to date.
Compare that to the 22% of the vote racked up by Laine Hardy. The clear frontrunner remains Alejandro Aranda, who has a whopping 39% of the total. The other two contestants — Wade Cota and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon — are each at 10%.

“I don’t think either one of them appreciably stepped up their game,” says Gold Derby senior editor Susan Wloszczyna when reacting to the recent ousting of Dimitrius Graham and Uche on Season 17 of “American Idol.” She adds, “Dimitrius looked miserable! When you perform, you need to assume an emotion that is pleasant.” Wloszczyna joins fellow senior editor Marcus James Dixon and contributor Denton Davidson to discuss the recently revealed Top 8, the upcoming Queen music theme and whether or not judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie have assembled the best group of contestants ever.

One day after “American Idol’s” Disney night, the Top 8 singers of Season 17 held a private listening session for journalists and influencers at EastWest Studios in Hollywood. All of the finalists gave acoustic performances for the intimate crowd, including Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon who had completely lost his voice that day. (Perhaps Katy Perry‘s sea witch Urusula was to blame?) Even voiceless, Jeremiah delivered a haunting rendition of The Beatles‘ “Blackbird” that proved why he’s one of the front-runners to join the “American Idol” winners list (watch above).

Ten years ago Adam Lambert took the stage during Top 8 week of “American Idol” and gave a haunting performance of “Mad World” that’s still making fans cry to this day. Adam’s stripped-down rendition of the Tears for Fears song from the April 7, 2009 episode is considered by many to be one of the best in the history of the reality TV show. It helped propel the wide-eyed 27-year-old all the way to second place, where he ultimately lost to Kris Allen. Watch the “American Idol” flashback video above.

I have been a fool. For 10 episodes, I have been focusing on the guys competing on “American Idol’s” 17th season. Laine Hardy is the cute one, Alejandro Aranda is the cool alt-dude, Walker Burroughs is the boy wizard and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon is the choir master.
But now that there are only three females left, I finally realized something on Episode 14: Madison VanDenburg is Incredible! What did it for me? When I heard her pick on Disney Night was “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana,” I suddenly had a Ptsd music moment when I remembered what happened when a previous highly praised contestant attempted the deceptively tricky song — Myra Tran, who did Ok initially but way over-sang the last note to the point of being shrill and off-key. The winner of “The X Factor Vietnam” was duly dismissed during the Top 40 Showcase Round after initially being overpraised during her “Idol” audition.

At Monday’s “American Idol” Top 8 listening session held at EastWest Studios in Hollywood, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan told Gold Derby about the one singer they most regret eliminating in Season 17. “I think about Ryan Hammond,” Katy confessed at the intimate “mix and mingle” event for journalists and influencers. “But ultimately it’s a competition and we can only do as best as we can,” she added.

It is always sad to watch contenders dismissed at this point in “American Idol” since each person in the Top 10 is a talented individual. But after seeing each being saved by a judge last week, it felt more hurtful as Uche’, who perhaps should have picked a song from anything but “A Goofy Movie,” and Dimitrius Graham, who seemed to pin his hopes on that last note of “You’ll Be in My Heart,” were let go in the final seconds of Sunday’s show.
One can understand why Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan would withhold saving them again, since they already gave them a second chance. But with such a top-notch Top 8, you could see why they wanted to keep the save in their pocket for later.

On Sunday’s “American Idol,” two of the Top 10 contestants were eliminated: Dimitrius Graham and Uche. They performed admirably but the competition on Disney Night was just too tough. The Disney songbook includes dozens, if not hundreds, of iconic tunes from the past eight decades. “I 2 I” from “A Goofy Movie” is not one of them. Unfortunately, Uche found this out the hard way during “American Idol’s” Disney night when he was eliminated following his performance of the song that judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan and guest mentor Rebel Wilson had never heard of before. In other words, Uche really goofed up.

Hey, American Idol fans. Tonight is bad news for any of you who were fans of Uche and Dimitrius Graham because they unfortunately weren't good enough to make the cut tonight. Tonight's Live show was the very first show to actually go live from the west coast to the east coast. The viewing audience watched and voted simultaneously. Then when the show was all said and done, the votes were tallied up and the results were revealed. The top 10 contestants had to all sing classic Disney songs. Bless their hearts. The three judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were on hand. The contestants were mentored by funny actress Rebel Wilson. The judge's "save" was back in play. So, they had the option to save any of the contestants that needed it. To get the night started, Uche hopped on stage to sing the song titled, "Eye to Eye" from a Goofy Disney movie.

Hi, ho(es)! American Idol‘s Top 10 borrowed from the Disney song book on Sunday for a (mostly) magical night that sent a pair of singers home.
