ReviewThere are some marvellous performances from the actors, Saiju Kurup, Priyanka Nair and Kottayam Ramesh in particular.CrisThis much was clear from the trailer: Antakshari will be a thriller, will be scary, and will have some fun elements because there is a policeman in it who likes to play Antakshari all the time. Antakshari is a game of music where a player sings a song and the next player has to sing one that begins with the last letter of the first song. The fun is however short-lived, and horror takes over, as the game itself becomes a scary experience, and many parallel stories seem to be told. But what began really well appears to lose focus, leaving too many loose ends, despite some marvellous performances from the actors: Saiju Kurup, Priyanka Nair and Kottayam Ramesh in particular. Director Vipin Das sets the tone of the film in the very beginning.

InterviewMalayalam director Vipin Das, whose film ‘Antakshari’ is releasing on April 22, tells Tnm about his unusual ideas of filmmaking and his refusal to tread the tried and tested path.CrisAntakshari, mostly known to be a harmless little game of songs (listeners may disagree), now appears to have a whole new dangerous side. It took Vipin Das, a filmmaker from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, to find that the game could bring horror, make songs that were once dear to you appear scary. Delighted with this discovery, he wrote a movie about it and called it Antakshari. Casting Saiju Kurup, an actor known for handling all sorts of characters with ease, in the lead, Vipin is releasing the film on Ott platform SonyLIV, on April 22. “It is not that I have written an unusual story. It is the story’s treatment that is unusual and that’s what I always go for,” Vipin...

ReviewIs it glorifying violence? 100%. What part of the story is original? 0%. But the whole thing is staged in such an entertaining way that I was simply having a good time with my popcorn. Sowmya RajendranBheeshma ParvamYet another tribute to The Godfather. Don’t we have enough of those already? If you’d asked me this question before I stepped in to watch Bheeshma Parvam, I would have said yes. Stop with the gangster storylines, the unnecessary glorification of violence, and the celebration of toxic masculinity already. But having watched the film, I have to confess that I’m grinning ear-to-ear, and would completely enjoy a sequel if it was ever made. Directed by Amal Neerad, known for his extravagant slow motion shots and stylised violence, Bheeshma Parvam also takes generous inspiration from the Mahabharata. Mammootty plays Michael (a direct nod to The Godfather), the youngest son of a powerful gangster...
