This post contains spoilers for Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" films.
When the Atreides first arrive in Arrakis in "Dune: Part One," we get our first glimpse of the mystical sandworms from the aerial perspective of a roving ornithopter. Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) notices the steady advent of the creature beneath the sand, the disturbance caused by its hidden scale leading up to an awe-inspiring scene: a gigantic, bottomless mouth swallowing one of the spice harvesting machines. As the Atreides do not know much about the Fremen and their relationship with Shai Hulud at this point, this first introduction feels even more intriguing, with a decided air of danger encircling the mysterious worm-like creatures.
Denis Villeneuve maintains the mystique surrounding the sandworms in "Part One" with the aid of a simple, yet effective strategy, where small glimpses of the creatures are peppered throughout to build up to the stunning reveal when...

Frank Herbert's "Dune" is one of the most influential science fiction books of all time. The original novel remains a groundbreaking story that draws inspiration from the hero's journey or monomyth, environmental science, politics, real history, and Arabic religion and Middle Eastern culture to deliver an unprecedented epic about the dangers of messianic leaders and the importance of ecology.
Ever since its initial publication in 1965, "Dune" has captivated all kinds of audiences, including hopeful producers and executives eager to adapt the story of Paul Atreides and his rise to power into a cinematic event. For a long time, filmmakers kept trying and failing to turn "Dune" into a movie, resulting in Herbert's book being labeled "unadaptable." Since then, however, there have been a handful of movie and TV adaptations, each of them highlighting different aspects of the original novel and its sequels.

Over the course of "Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi," the masked character of Boba Fett only has four lines of dialogue and six and a half minutes of screentime. Add in "The Star Wars Holiday Special," and the character suddenly had 20 additional lines. Either way, he was not a major player in "Star Wars," and ultimately fell into the mouth of a Shai Hulud on Arrakis a Sarlacc on Tattooine. It wasn't until the decade-and-a-half following the release of 1983's "Jedi" that Boba Fett would come to be admired by Starwoids who watched the "Star Wars" movies dozens of times each. In the "Star Wars" prequel films released from 1999 to 2005, Boba Fett was given a mythic backstory, and in 2021, he became the star of his own TV series.

Of the many, many casualties of the AMPTP dragging out the SAG-AFTRA strike far longer than it ever needed to be, perhaps none hit quite as hard as the news that "Dune: Part Two" would be pushed back to March of 2024. An epic of this magnitude deserves the full-court press treatment that could only come from the entire ensemble cast promoting the sequel through every possible venue, so the move was an understandable one. But between the pandemic constantly disrupting the release of Denis Villeneuve's 2021 predecessor and now the strike affecting "Part Two," it'd be easy to think that some cosmic entity out there apparently has it out for this sci-fi/fantasy series.
But praise Shai Hulud, because that wait has just gotten a little less difficult to manage. Warner Bros. has only just released a new trailer for the upcoming "Dune: Part Two," and, by the looks of it,...

Who thought to call it Star Wars Celebration, and not The Boba Fête?
At last recount, the character of Boba Fett was one of thousands of clones extracted from his father, Jango Fett (Temuera Morrison), in "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones." Boba's childhood wasn't a happy one, however. The kid was present when an army of lightsaber-wielding Jedi attacked, and he got to witness Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson) decapitating his father. As an adult, Boba Fett would become a bounty hunter, fall in with criminals, and eventually be fed into the mouth of an awaiting Shai Hulud on the distant...
