Nick Offerman plays the Potus in the dystopian action film Civil War, but although some liken his character to Donald Trump, the actor didn’t think about him during filming.
“Honestly, no,” Offerman told Deadline during the film’s premiere. “When you see the movie, it’s so unattached to anything in modern politics, not only in our country but any country. It’s like doing a play where I’m playing a baseball player, and people say, ‘Did you ever think of your favorite team, the Cubs?’ And I say, ‘No, it’s a brilliant piece of fiction.'”
He continued, “From the get-go, it clearly wasn’t based on anything in reality, and so, that’s a distraction, and my job is to immediately say, ‘Who is this guy? And how can I best serve Alex [Garland’s] vision.'”

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
So much of Ahsoka‘s third episode feels like classic Star Wars, from Sabine’s blind training nodding back to A New Hope to the space battle that combines elements from both the Original and Prequel Trilogies for one of the best dogfights ever made for Disney+. But that doesn’t mean Ahsoka has skipped out on bringing back a bunch of stuff from Rebels this time around. In fact, one major cameo allows this Disney+ series to pick up exactly where its animated predecessor left off.
Here are all the Star Wars easter eggs and callbacks we spotted in “Time to Fly”:
Evan Whitten as Jacen Syndulla
There was never any doubt that Jacen Syndulla would pop up in Ahsoka, but we definitely didn’t expect to see this little dude so soon. Introduced in the final minutes of the Rebels...

Star Wars Celebration 2023 has so far been especially exciting for fans of the animated side of the universe. "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels" creator Dave Filoni was revealed to be directing a live-action "Star Wars" movie, set between the events of "Return of the Jedi" and "The Force Awakens." And while the film is still in early development, Filoni also brought a brand new trailer for his upcoming live-action series "Ahsoka," which will continue the storyline of "Star Wars Rebels."
When animated properties in the "Star Wars" universe make a jump into live-action, it tends to make big waves. Sometimes, though, those ripples into live-action can be a lot more subtle. When a show based on a character like Ahsoka Tano comes out, it's no surprise that we'll be seeing animated characters from her past adventures. Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and even Chopper...

Scientific research tells us that nearly all of the cells in the human body are renewed every seven years. Personally, I like to think that explains the “seven-year itch,” the phenomenon by which so many of us change jobs, friends and such on a predictable cycle: because you’re literally not the same person anymore.
It’s been eight years since Albee (Amber Midthunder) and Walker (Taylor Gray) got married, and their relationship is running on fumes. A surprisingly serious-minded drama from “Hot Tub Time Machine” helmer Steve Pink (who co-wrote Gen X John Cusack romances “Grosse Pointe Blank” and “High Fidelity”), no-frills indie “The Wheel” follows this couple on a weekend retreat to a remote Airbnb, where the pair plan to hash things out once and for all.
Walker has brought along a self-help book, “Seven Questions to Save Your Marriage.” Albee says she’s game, but seldom looks away from her iPhone.

Quiver Distribution has acquired “The Wheel,” a relationship drama about a young couple on the brink of divorce. That film is from Steve Pink, the co-writer of “High Fidelity” and the director of “Hot Tub Time Machine” and “About Last Night.” It premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
Quiver will distribute the film on July 22, 2022. It stars Amber Midthunder (Hulu’s upcoming “Prey”) and Taylor Gray (“Star Wars: Rebels”). Bethany-Anne Lind (“Reprisal”), Nelson Lee (“Stargirl”), Carly Nykanen (“Bosch”), and Kevin Pasdon (“Dexter: New Blood”) round out the cast, with a script from Trent Atkinson (“Home and Away”).

It’s New Year’s Eve: Ben (Timothy V. Murphy) and Kat’s (Elisha Renee Sutton) last night in Los Angeles before heading to New York. He’s spearheading the move with a desire to rejuvenate his writing career after finding the growing chasm separating talent and fame in Hollywood too much to creatively bear. The change in scenery isn’t necessarily great for Kat’s career as a celebrity photographer, but she knows staying with Ben provides security for her young son Micah (T.K. Weaver) since his father (Neil Jackson’s Cam) is always away on assignment. The holiday is thus an excuse for one last hurrah amongst old friends before life pushes them apart. It might be their final time together. An opportunity for fun—and difficult, unspoken truths.

Despite only being 24 years old, Walker (Taylor Gray) and Albee (Amber Midthunder) head into the woods from their Los Angeles existence to try to save their eight-year marriage. Well, he’s trying to save their marriage. To look at their interactions is to wonder why Albee hadn’t left years ago. We catch glimpses of a smile every now and then, but mostly her head is buried in her phone or coldly lamenting why Walker has taken her to the middle of nowhere to read a self-help book that she doesn’t believe can fix what’s broken. And maybe his desire to try is less about optimism than it is delusion. Maybe their union isn’t what’s broken; it’s them. To fix that means confronting even worse pain.

One of the most succinct, yet heavily weighted lines of dialogue in cinema history is a three-syllable call to death: “Time to die,” as Rutger Hauer’s Roy Batty commands Deckard in Blade Runner. Hawaiian filmmaker Christopher Makoto Yogi’s I Was a Simple Man makes its own attempt at this profundity, attempting to sum up the big goodbye in one epigrammatic phrase. “Dying isn’t simple is it?” is spoken––murmured gently, more like––no less than three times across the film, and by the end, Yogi’s work seems to have offered a resolution to that question, although viewers may beg to differ.
Ah, death. You can’t stop what’s coming, and equally, you can’t stop art film directors conjuring up all their poetic means to give this subject its due. Yogi has switched tack for his second feature, his first to premiere in the U.

“Dying isn’t simple, is it?” That question is asked at three separate points in “I Was a Simple Man,” and with each repetition, it sounds slightly less rhetorical, less worldly-wise, more loaded with anxious uncertainty. Christopher Makoto Yogi’s hushed, ruminative study of an elderly man’s last days in Oahu doesn’t quite settle on an answer either. It considers the troubling weight of impending death on the victim — as failing health, glitching memory and drifting ghosts of the past combine to disorienting effect — as well as on his burdened, emotionally conflicted family. Yet there’s serene peace here amid the trauma: At the film’s most lyrical points, mortality doesn’t seem a threat or a ticking clock, so much as a breeze to which you eventually bend. It might help, of course, to be surrounded by the gracious greenery and oceanic soundtrack of Oahu, to which...

Actress Amber Midthunder, who is a regular on the CW series Roswell, New Mexico and previously co-starred in FX’s Legion, stars in The Wheel, an indie feature, which she also produced. Steve Pink is the director and also produced the pic. Pink is known for films like Hot Tub Time Machine 1&2, 2014’s About Last Night, and co-wrote the original High Fidelity film. Midthunder co-stars alongside Taylor Gray, whose credits include Star Wars Rebels and American Princess. The Wheel centers on Albee and Walker, a couple on the verge of divorce. Married at 16, they’re now 24 and miserable. Albee wants out, while Walker wants to make it work – no matter the damage. This is their Hail Mary; a weekend in the mountains to work through a book that might save their relationship via total, brutal honesty. Nelson Lee (Mulan), Bethany Anne Lind (Ozark), and Kevin Pasdon (New Amsterdam) round out the cast.

DC’s Stargirl has been delivering heartfelt action and deep cut characters since it first hit screens in May. Over the past couple of months we’ve fallen head over heels for the heroine and her gang of ragtag teen superheroes. But as much as we adore the burgeoning, bumbling Justice Society, the other thing that Stargirl has excelled in is introducing lesser known villains, building an impressively chilling gallery of rogues who make up the show’s Injustice Society.
The newest addition to that motley crew is Nelson Lee’s Dragon King. The terrifying masked scientist is not only the father of Courtney’s new arch-nemesis, Cindy Burman, but also appears to be the ringleader of the Injustice Society and presents a horrifying new threat for the team.

The next DC Universe original live action series is Stargirl! Not as edgy as Titans, nor as weird as our beloved Doom Patrol, Stargirl looks like a celebration of superheroics, and one that will explore the legacy of the first team of heroes in comic book history, the Justice Society of America. Stargirl will roll out in May on both the DC Universe streaming service and on The CW.
The series stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore, who will take on the mantle of Stargirl. Luke Wilson plays her stepfather, former kid sidekick and current pilot of the gigantic S.T.R.I.P.E robot, Pat Dugan. They’re joined by Amy Smart (Varsity Blues) as Courtney’s mother, Barbara Whitmore. But really, if you’re talking about Stargirl, you’re also talking about the Justice Society of America, and this series will absolutely feature more characters carrying on...

On Monday night, Disney had the world premiere of their forthcoming live-action version of the classic animated feature Mulan in Los Angeles and while some were expecting it to follow the lead of major festivals and events closing due to coronavirus fears, the premiere went on as planned and it was filled with red carpet glam and enthusiasm as any Hollywood premiere — but there were discreet precautions taken by the Dolby Theater as well as the attendees.
There were the normal security checks around the Hollywood and Highland center including officials randomly inspecting cars as they entered the garage and metal detectors. On top of that, there were hand sanitizing stations placed throughout the red carpet area and the Dolby Theater.
As attendees greeted each other, many were shaking hands and hugging, but you can overhear people asking permission to hug or shake hands. There were just as many attendees...

“Mulan” may not be for very young children, as it’s become the first Disney live-action remake to receive a PG-13 rating.
The new take on the Disney classic got the rating from the Motion Picture Association of America due to the “sequences of violence” apparently depicted in the film. All previous live-action remakes from the studio have received a G or PG rating, and 2017’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” was Disney’s most recent film to be labeled PG-13.
“Mulan” is straying away from the model of previous remakes like “Aladdin,” “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Cinderella.” Unlike the other live-action takes, “Mulan’s” trailers depicted the film without its famous musical numbers and removed some of the characters featured in the original 1998 animated version, including Mushu, Mulan’s dragon companion who was voiced by Eddie Murphy. Two trailers have been released,...

Low budget sci-fi is an interesting sub genre. There’s not too much of it about and it’s hard to get right. With sci-fi people always think flying spaceships and futuristic-looking cities but with no money this is very hard to pull off. So often the best way to go is with clever, future set ideas that don’t need big visuals. Being an anthology movie, 5 Galaxies kind of covers all of these.
The films first segment shows a world that is over-populated and to sort out this problem is culling people on their 40th birthday. The short focuses on one person about to ‘celebrate’ that birthday. It is a more dialogue based segment...

The latest superhero adaptation is the upcoming Stargirl, based on the DC Comics character and coproduced by DC Universe and The CW. Stargirl might not be as familiar a name as some of the other heroes adapted for the small screen, so here's what you need to know about the new series before it launches in early 2020.
Like many superhero series, the premise of Stargirl kicks off with a young person discovering a world of superpowers that she never knew existed. In this case, that young hero-to-be is Courtney Whitmore (played by Brec Bassinger), a high-school sophomore who discovers that her new stepfather has a secret past as the sidekick to the superhero Starman. Courtney discovers a powerful "cosmic staff" that used to belong to Starman, and, in time, she inspires a mismatched group of young heroes to become the Justice Society of America and go up against the Injustice Society,...

Update: This video has been removed at the request of DC. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
A third original live-action series is joining Titans and Doom Patrol on DC Universe this spring in the form of Stargirl. Whereas those two productions are notable for being darker and more mature than most other DC TV shows, this one will have a completely different tone. And you can get a feel for that in this first teaser trailer, which just debuted this evening.
The short promo opens with Courtney Whitmore herself, Brec Bassinger, standing in front of some high school lockers with co-stars Christopher James Baker, Angelika Washington and Yvette Monreal, with the foursome labelled “a new generation of superheroes.” These three actors’ characters have yet to be announced, but it seems they’ll become Stargirl’s pals in fighting crime. “The staff chose me,” we hear Bassinger say. “And I chose you.

Disney has released the first teaser trailer for their live-action adaptation of their wonderful 1998 animated film Mulan. Fans have been curious about how this movie would turn out, and now we know a little more of what we can expect from the film!
The film looks like it will be a visually stunning action-adventure movie that follows “a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.”
This movie won’t include any of the music from the original animated film, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be good!
