Late auteur Peter Bogdanovich is still just a handshake away per his posthumous podcast, “One Handshake Away.”
Prior to Bogdanovich’s January 2022 death, the filmmaker recorded a series of interviews with fellow directors such as Guillermo del Toro, Quentin Tarantino, Ken Burns, and Rian Johnson to discuss their biggest cinematic influences.
Per Deadline, Bogdanovich named the podcast “One Handshake Away” to honor the relationship between contemporary directors and pioneering filmmakers, with each filmmaker being “one handshake away” from one another in film history.
After Bogdanovich’s passing, del Toro took over the podcast and recorded the final three episodes, interviewing Greta Gerwig, Julie Delpy, and Allison Anders, which included discussing the works of Howard Hawks, Fritz Lang, and Raoul Walsh.
Filmmakers Alfred Hitchcock, Don Siegel, Orson Welles, and John Ford were reexamined in episodes Bogdanovich recorded; the podcast additionally features exclusive archival interviews with Hitchcock, Welles, and Ford that have...

A new study has revealed that consumers are highly accepting and open to podcast advertising despite persistent brand concerns about suitability and safety. The research, conducted by Alter Agents – an independent market research consultancy – in partnership with Audacy, found that podcasts provide a safe advertising environment for brands, with eight in 10 consumers finding branded podcast messages suitable as long as they are contextually relevant, even when it comes to controversial content. Podcasts garner an engaged listening environment that bolsters attention, with 80% of listeners claiming they listen to ads, most as they enjoy the whole podcast.
The study identified key themes regarding brand safety and suitability in podcast advertising for marketers and consumers. The B2B community listed controllability, genre-specific myths, trade-offs of produced vs. host-read advertisements, and the complex categorizations of podcasts. Consumers indicated ads must be a good fit within the content, hosts must be authentic, and controversial topics...

The We Can Do Hard Things podcast — hosted by bestselling author Glennon Doyle, her wife Abby Wambach and her sister Amanda Doyle — has reached a multiyear extension with Audacy.
The podcast was initially conceived as a solo project for Glennon Doyle following the success of her 2020 memoir Untamed, but talking to a microphone alone in the closet where she writes just felt “boring.” So, after listening to a few recommended podcasts, a lightbulb went off — “Oh, podcasts are conversations!” — and she asked Amanda, who is also vp and general counsel of their non-profit Together Rising, to come on board. Wambach, a now-retired Olympic soccer player, appeared as a guest before becoming an official co-host.
They’re also rebranding — it’s now called We Can Do Hard Things (dropping the “with Glennon Doyle” to reflect that it’s a group effort) — and has new cover art that shows all three of them.

Audacy today announced an expansion of its relationship with Puck and the launch of About a Boy: The Story of Vladimir Putin — a five-part documentary podcast series exploring the forces that shaped Russian President Vladimir Putin’s childhood (and life) and why it's critical to understanding what he might do next in the war against Ukraine.

Rob Lowe, Burt Reynolds and Ice-t starred in a low-budget movie called Crazy Six in 1997. The movie, which told the story of powerful mafia families vying for control of the arms trade, was written by Galen Yuen, who is the focus of a new original podcast series for Apple.
However, Yuen isn’t your traditional feature film writer.
The series – Magnificent Jerk – follows journalist Maya Lin Sugarman, formerly of The Washington Post, on a journey to discover who her uncle really was.
Starting with a box of his forgotten screenplays, the series sees Lin Sugarman discovering that he was a member of a Chinese gang who went to jail before turning his life story into the Crazy Six screenplay (albeit with a few twists).
The series, which launches on September 18, comes from Pineapple Street Studios, the Audacy-owned company behind The Clearing and Heaven’s Gate.

Ask the most powerful people in podcasting whether we’ve reached “peak podcast” and the answer is a resounding no. Or, more specifically, a “hell no,” an “absolutely not” and a “don’t be ridiculous!” Still, the medium isn’t without its challenges. “Podcasting has gone from being an industry that had a ton of speculative money thrown at it, to an industry that now has to figure out how to make money,” notes Audacy’s Jenna Weiss-Berman when asked to describe how it has transformed over the last five years. Here, many of the top hosts, executives and agents in the business, all featured on THR‘s annual list of The 40(ish) Names to Know in Podcasting Now, weigh in with their hopes, plans and pet peeves.
My podcasting pet peeves are…
Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM The idea that all it takes to make a good podcast is a mic and a computer.

Pineapple Street Studios, the podcasting shop behind Will Be Wild and the official Succession companion podcast, has named longtime staffers Bari Finkel and Je-Anne Berry as the studio’s new co-heads.
Finkel and Berry will take over leadership of the studio from co-founders Jenna Weiss-Berman and Max Linsky, who founded Pineapple Street in 2016 and guided the company through its 2019 acquisition by broadcaster Audacy.

Exclusive: Andrea Bernstein and Ilya Marritz, the hosts of the award-winning podcast Trump, Inc., have set their next project.
Bernstein and Marritz are working on a investigative documentary podcast series that will trace the multiple failures that led to the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
It is their first project since the pair revealed that they were leaving Wnyc after two decades to work on the new series with Audacy-owned Pineapple Street Studios, the company behind series including Wind of Change, Missing Richard Simmons and 70 Over 70.
The untitled series will look at the insurrection and how the attack very nearly toppled democracy from within as well as Trump’s continued denial of basic facts surrounding the events of January 6, and declared in a recent statement “I’m not into coups!”. It comes as Republicans in Congress have resisted an independent, bipartisan investigation in the style of the 9/11 commission.
