Launchpad Season 2 is a collection of live-action shorts from a new generation of dynamic filmmakers. This season showcases six writers, five directors and one writer-director from underrepresented backgrounds who were given the opportunity to share their perspectives and creative visions.
Continuing the goal of Disney’s first season of Launchpad, which was to diversify the types of stories that are being told by giving access to those who historically have not had it, the second installment focuses on the theme of “connection.”
‘Beautiful, Fl,’ ‘ Black Belts’ & ‘Maxine’

The third annual Earth Focus Environmental Film Festival, and the first to take place virtually in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, kicks off tonight and runs through April 23 via Southern California’s flagship PBS stations PBS SoCal and Kcet along with national independent satellite network Link TV. The opening-night film is the West Coast premiere of Playing with Sharks, the extraordinary life story of pioneering scuba diver Valerie Taylor, who has dedicated her life to exposing the myth surrounding the fear of sharks.
The film documents her quest as well as history including her work on several films, among them 1975’s iconic Jaws. National Geographic Documentary Films acquired the film out of the 2021 Sundance Film Festival with plans to release it later this year. Following the 7 p.m. Pt screening I will moderate a conversation with Taylor, writer-director Sally Aitken and producer Bettina Dalton all joining me together from Australia.

The events, which will be held October 21 in New York City and October 22 in Los Angeles, are part of the Csa’s ongoing Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion in Casting Initiative – a series of conversations and classes designed “to effect concrete change in how actors in historically underrepresented communities are afforded access to job opportunities.”
“As Native Americans, one of our biggest obstacles is just being seen as present-day human beings,” said DeLanna Studi, chair of the SAG-AFTRA Native American Committee and a town hall panelist. “We are an important part of our shared American story, not only of the past, but of the present and future as well.
