When he's asked to help a sick little girl get to a doctor, he soon finds himself called on to fight once again.

The UK’s greatest occultist since Aleister Crowley, Alfie Hawthorne is dead. Luckily he passed his occult knowledge on to his niece Ellie. Which is just as well as there’s a gang war about to break out in London and 72 demons from the underworld are going to be in thick in the mix.
There’s shades of Hellblazer and a touch of Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels which makes this an utterly great read. If you had to choose a horror title for Adlard to follow up his epic work on The Walking Dead, this would definitely be it.

“Star Wars: Visions,” the new nine-part anime anthology on Disney+, returns the franchise to its Japanese roots even more directly than “The Mandalorian” to expand the universe. What’s exciting is how the seven anime studios filter the franchise so comfortably through the prism of Japanese culture. That’s because George Lucas’ original vision for “Star Wars” was an imaginative fusion of Japanese cinema and sci-fi space opera.
“‘Star Wars’ has been so influenced by Japanese culture from Kurosawa films [‘The Hidden Fortress’] to jidaigeki [period samurai] films [from which the Jedi name is derived] to Zen Budhism and its impact on the Force,” said executive producer James Waugh of Lucasfilm. “We’ve been talking about doing [‘Star Wars’ anime] for a long time, but we couldn’t make it happen until the force of nature that’s Disney+.”

When Sturgill Simpson released the album Sound & Fury in 2019, it arrived with a companion anime film on Netflix. Colorful, intense, and wildly violent, the movie focused on a shadowy muscle-car driver and his bloody mission of vengeance. In November, Simpson and Z2 Comics will probe the driver’s origin in Sound & Fury: The Graphic Novel, a prequel to the storyline of the film.
The novel comes in two formats, both 144 pages: a standard paperback version and a deluxe, oversize hardcover edition in a slipcase. Each is available for preorder. The...

One of the more offbeat takes on the Batman legend in recent years, 2018’s Batman Ninja transplanted the world of the Dark Knight into anime. Junpei Mizusaki took the directing reins in an animated film designed by Takashi Okazaki of Afro Samurai fame. It’s now being reported that we’ll be getting a live-action adaptation of the material, albeit not as a feature film, but as a stage play. While this may be disappointing for some wanting to see a niche Batman movie, a play is undoubtedly an intriguing prospect.
It’s fair to say that we weren’t too keen on Batman Ninja when the original animated version arrived a few years ago, which we put down as visually impressive but a bit of a mess in other respects. Still, the movie has been enough of a success for Warner Bros. and its Japanese partners on DVD, Blu-ray...

As we recently reported, Criterion Collection will release 15 Godzilla films from the Showa era (initially released between 1954–1975) in a Blu-ray box set this October, and we now have a look at a brand new trailer for the release that gives us a tease of the new high-def digital transfers.

1. “The Politician” (available September 27)
Why Should I Watch? It’s Ryan Murphy’s first original series for Netflix. That’s the narrative TV enthusiasts and industry titans will be watching, more so than any high school election shenanigans, when “The Politician” debuts this month. After signing a whopping $300 million overall deal in February 2018, Murphy is rolling out his first big-ticket Netflix series, and his deal (along with more than few others) is meant to help maintain subscribers as the O.G. streaming giant faces new competition from the likes of Disney+ and Apple TV+. The size of its audience is even more important than whether or not it’s any good, but awards prospects are top of mind for this star-studded venture. During his time at FX, Murphy served as an enticing dual threat: prestige and popularity. Now, he’s got to carry that over to Netflix.
Bonus Reason: Well, the cast is pretty stacked.

In the 1950s, Batman was transformed into a variety of beings or wore a colorful assortment of costumes to goose sales. Thankfully, that silliness was retired with the New Look and wasn’t resurrected until the Elseworlds what if stories of the 1990s. That same approach has now crept from the page to the screen with Batman Ninja, out now on DVD from Warner Home Entertainment.
This anime-style adventure comes from director Junpei Mizusaki, (producer of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), working from a script by Kazuki Nakashima and character designs from Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai). As a result, it comes with a strong pedigree for the creative approach.

While facing off against Gorilla Grodd at Arkham Asylum, a time machine Grodd was working on, malfunctions and teleports Batman along with some of his foes and allies into feudal Japan. Having appeared two years later than the rest, Batman finds that a war is going on with Joker, Poison Ivy, Penguin, Two-Face, and Deathstroke all holding reign over different areas of Japan. With allies like Nightwing, Robin and a group of Ninjas that prophesized his appearance batman must rebuild Grodd’s time machine to return to present-day Gotham.
In order to fix the timeline, Batman must enlist the help of Grodd, but the Gorilla has his own motives. Combined with the chaotic and unpredictable nature of Joker aided by Harley Quinn, Batman has to face many adversities in order to restore the timeline.
The greatest strength of “Batman Ninja” probably rests within the character design by Takashi Okazaki.

"I have my mind, my spirit, and all of you." Warner Bros has unveiled an official Us trailer for the Japanese anime movie Batman Ninja, which re-imagines Batman as a samurai warrior who must save a town. We posted two awesome trailers for this movie late last year, and it looks seriously badass. WB also confirmed an official Us release date - April 24th on VOD, then May 8th on Blu-ray/DVD for those who still need a hard copy. Batman Ninja is directed by Junpei Mizusaki with character design by Takashi Okazaki, and is about Batman defending a town in feudal Japan after being transported there by Gorilla Grodd's time displacement machine. The English voice cast includes Roger Craig Smith as Batman and Tony Hale as the Joker, plus Grey Griffin, Tara Strong, and Fred Tatasciore. That voice cast is pretty good, making this actually sound slick in English.

Yesterday, we brought you the new Batman Ninja trailer. Today, we've got all the essential details for those intrigued in the UK...
The idea that Batman exists as a stealthy, gadget-wielding, contemporary crime-fighting nocturnal ninja may seem like a given at this point, but it’s a fairly recent trope that was ignited by movie and comic book reinventions, and far from the 1939 vision of the costumed rope-swinging detective of creators Bob Kane and Bill Finger. However, upcoming anime Batman Ninja not only embraces said trope, but creatively utilises it as the basis for an inventive interpretation of the mythology.
We've now got the details of the planned UK release for you. It'll be available via digital on April 24th, 2018, and Blu-ray, Blu-ray Steelbook and DVD on May 14th, 2018.

While the geek world continues to argue amongst themselves about Justice League, DC quietly just dropped a trailer for what looks to be their most exciting animated feature to date. Batman Ninja, which is a rare anime-style feature from the company, shows Bruce Wayne thrust from modern times into Medieval Japan where some friends are already waiting for him. I'm not exactly sure why Batman is the last to arrive (especially considering every past Robin and Red Hood is there), but I was all in the moment when I saw Edo Joker in action!
The film was developed by screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima (Kill La Kill), director Jumpei Mizusaki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), character designer Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai) and the English-language screenwriters Leo Chu and Eric Garcia (Supa Ninjas).
Check out the first trailer, complete with subtitles, and tell me this isn't something you're interested in seeing in 2018.

Last week we learned that there was a Batman anime film in development called Batman Ninja. The film is being developed by screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima (Kill La Kill), director Jumpei Mizusaki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), character designer Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai) and the English-language screenwriters Leo Chu and Eric Garcia (Supa Ninjas). They all appeared at a panel at Nycc this past weekend to talk about the movie.
They explained that Batman Ninja will feature several heroes and villains that will be traveling through time to battle. The story will be set in Japan and it will range from the middle ages to the modern day. Cbm explains:

One reason why the character of Batman has endured for 78 years is that he’s so malleable. Sure, there are intrinsic qualities that unite various interpretations such as his superior intellect, martial arts skills and care for his fellow man, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been portrayals on opposite ends of the spectrum. For example, both Adam West and Ben Affleck have brought something very different to the table, but neither man’s efforts were no less valid than the other – and the same sentiment can be extended to comics and animation.
Having said that, the time has come to embrace what the near future will bring. As it turns out, the Caped Crusader will once again venture to the Japanese anime arena, this time with Batman Ninja. And no, it probably has nothing to do with the Dark Knight and dozens of other gifted athletes from...

Developer The Game Bakers has unleashed the launch trailer for Furi, the über-stylish skill-based actioner that is now available across PlayStation 4 and PC. Priced at $24.99 (€24.99), we learned last week that Furi was a part of the PlayStation Plus lineup for July, meaning those subscribers can download The Game Bakers’ vivid indie free of charge for the remainder of the month.
Placing a heavy emphasis on hack-‘n’-slash action and massive boss fights, Furi also recruited Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki to help create some of the “out-of-this-world adversaries” that you’ll be locking horns with throughout the course of the story.
You were captured. Look what they’ve done to you… The jailer is the key, kill him and you’ll be free. Fight your way free in this ultra-responsive, fast-paced sword fighting and dual-stick shooting game. When it comes to games that came out of nowhere, Furi has been one of the biggest surprises this year. We had the chance to go hands-on with it last month at E3, and walked away with anticipation for the full release. Our time with the game was limited, but it’s fast paced action and emphasis on tight, responsive controls sat well with us. What we didn’t expect however, is that the final version would excite and surprise us even more.
Furi prefers to keep the story light and vague, but it works well for an action-focused title of this type. You take control of a mysterious samurai named The Stranger, whose driving goal is to escape the prison he finds himself in. The Stranger’s journey through the prison world he inhabits is an interesting one; rather than working your way through level after level, Furi is entirely composed of boss fights,...

Unlike most other video games out there, Furi doesn’t waste any time. What might be considered standard levels in most other titles, Furi would consider filler and a waste of time. If you’re the kind of person who looks forward to boss fights, Furi might just be up your alley.
Our hands on time with Furi was brief, but you can tell that it heavily draws its inspirations from a handful of Japanese games. Takashi Okazaki, the creator of Afro Samurai, worked on the character designs for the game, lending a very heavy Japanese aesthetic to the entire proceeding. The main character has a very ninja look, and was very reminiscent of Raiden from the Metal Gear Solid series, particularly his later appearances as a cyborg.
As I mentioned before, Furi is a game that focuses on boss fights, or more aptly, is comprised of boss fights entirely.
