The legendary John Malkovich has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Multiple trades are reporting that the Con Air and Being John Malkovich star has boarded Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four in an undisclosed role. This news follows the announcement that Paul Walter Houser has also joined the ensemble.
Details on his character are also being kept under wraps, but there's a lot of speculation that he might be playing the villainous Mole Man. As for Malkovich, there are several supporting parts that have yet to be announced, including Galactus (unlikely) and Doctor Franklin Storm.
Both actors join Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning) as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, aka the Thing.

James Clavell‘s 1975 historical novel of the same name is the basis for Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks‘ “Shōgun,” and it makes for exquisite television. Set at the end of the 16th century in Japan, the FX limited series follows several factions in the five Regents all vying for control and power. Intricate world-building and political machinations combine to make “Shōgun” the next “Game of Thrones.” What the two shows also have in common is a collection of superb performances from their extensive casts. Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, and Cosmo Jarvis lead the way in the show’s leading performances but several supporting players could also be up for an Emmy nomination, including Takehiro Hira.
Hira plays Ishido Kazunari, a former peasant who has now become a powerful bushō (a warlord). Kazunari takes charge of one of the five Regents and is the main rival of Sanada’s Lord Yoshii Toranaga.

“True Detective” season four, officially titled “True Detective: Night Country,” has returned the HBO crime series to its former glories after seasons two and three disappointed. This entry follows Jodie Foster as a police chief investigating the vanishing of eight men in the spooky, fictional town of Ennis, Alaska.
One of many things, along with the eerie town and Lovecraftian seasoning, that makes this series so excellent is its cast. Two-time Oscar-winner Foster is joined by a trio of other veterans — Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, and John Hawkes — plus a pair of newcomers: former boxer Kali Reis and rising star Finn Bennett. Bennett plays police Officer Peter Prior, the son of Hawkes’ Captain Prior, and he turns in a nuanced, memorable performance. Critics have agreed, too, he makes the strongest impression amongst the series’ supporting cast.

‘Succession’ wins for Outstanding Drama Series at the 75Th Emmy Awards (Photo © 2024 Fox Media LLC)
In a normal year, the 2023 Emmy Awards would have actually taken place in 2023. But last year was anything but normal in Hollywood, and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused the award ceremony’s postponement to January 15, 2024.
Fans of Succession, The Bear, and Beef had a lot to celebrate as Emmy voters threw most of the awards in their direction. Succession and The Bear tied with six wins each, and Beef wasn’t far behind with five.
Highlights included Christina Applegate’s surprise appearance on stage to a standing ovation, Carol Burnett presenting to Quinta Brunson (the first Black actress to win as Lead Actress in a Comedy since 1981), and Niecy Nash-Betts’ powerful acceptance speech for Dahmer. There were also cast reunions and Sir Elton John finally received the E portion of Egot for his Farewell From Dodger Stadium special.

Another edition of the Primetime Emmys is in the books, and Succession, The Bear and Beef cleaned up, earning almost every award they were nominated for in their respective categories. It’s crazy to think, but the nominees were announced way back in July, as the ceremony was postponed from September all the way until now due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Succession has taken home the Emmy for Best Drama Series every year it’s been nominated in, except the first season. To note, the (many) awards The Bear won tonight were for its first season rather than its even more acclaimed second season, which aired on Hulu after the cut-off for Emmy consideration. Just last night, The Bear won a whole raft of awards at the Cca’s for season 2, so expect them to be right back on the Emmy stage before long.

We have previously discussed how the AI-oriented plot point was presented in the central narrative of the Good Night World anime series, where a personal tragedy and the overbearing presence of grief and guilt led to the creation of the AI entity Black Bird. Despite the character being projected as the series antagonist, the Black Bird raised some topical questions about human egocentrism, the nature of humanity, and life itself. But even that was not the best use of an AI-oriented narrative device in the series, that came through the character of Captain Pico, the pirate leader in the augmented reality of Planet. It is through her characterization that Good Night World gains a major relatability factor, and the way her arc is ended through an ambiguous resolution makes for an interesting discussion as well.

Sci-fi animes have always pushed the boundaries of the genre by introducing revolutionary concepts through some of their timeless ventures. When it came to narratives revolving around AI, the journey started way back in the 1950s, when trailblazing entries like Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy paved the way for nuanced, complex storytelling—something that iconic entries like Plastic Memories, Ergo Proxy, and Ghost in the Shell have brilliantly utilized. The complicated notions regarding the sanctity of life, identity crises, and the essence of humanity in conventionally ‘unnatural’ creations have most often found their way into AI-related anime narratives, and the recently released Good Night World is another such example.
The AI scare is prevalent in the current climate now more than ever, and the discussion demands a more understanding gaze instead of an idealistic or purely logical perspective. In that regard, the presentation of the near-omnipotent sentient AI, Black Bird,...

Celebrating television might feel like a wasted effort right now, especially since 11,500 writers and 160,000 actors are walking the picket lines for the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. But it would be unfair to overlook the extraordinary work of so many Emmy-worthy creatives, even if the ongoing dispute between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers prevents writers and actors from talking about the very series that got them a ticket to the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards in the first place. Sadly, everyone will have to wait until January 2024 to see who will accept their just rewards. But this year’s Contenders Television: The Nominees virtual livestream event that kicks off Saturday at 10 a.m. Pt will certainly make it worth the wait.

It’s that magical time of the year when we call attention to excellence in the entertainment space by announcing the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Nominations! The yearly celebration finds HBO having its run of the list with nominations for shows like The Last of Us, Succession, and The White Lotus topping the charts. Unsurprisingly, Succession is getting its flowers with an Outstanding Drama Series nomination and several nods in the actor/actress categories. Looking at the list, HBO is entering a Mortal Kombat-like mirror match as the network finds several of its shows competing against one another directly, including House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus, in addition to Andor, The Crown, and Yellowjackets.

After winning last year’s Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actor Emmy for “The White Lotus,” Murray Bartlett now officially has a chance to become the category’s first back-to-back champion by being honored for Hulu’s “Welcome to Chippendales.” He will, however, have to fend off strong frontrunner Paul Walter Hauser, who has already collected Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards for Apple TV+’s “Black Bird.” Scroll through our photo gallery to learn more about all seven of this year’s Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actor nominees and be sure to finalize your Emmy predictions by September 18.
Bartlett is one of several multi-nominated actors on this year’s Emmy ballot, as he also nabbed a Best Drama Guest Actor bid for “The Last of Us.” One of his supporting challengers, posthumous contender Ray Liotta (“Black Bird”), won the same guest award for “ER” in 2005.

This year’s first-round Primetime Emmy nominations ballot includes a total of 51 Best Limited Series hopefuls. This is down from 2022’s unusually high total of 61, yet still much higher than 2021’s 37, 2020’s 41, and 2019’s 35.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. Unlike the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members’ selections can now not be greater than the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which, in this case, will be five.
Unlike comedy and drama series, which simply appear on the ballot by name, the limited series submissions include plot descriptions and cast lists. Which of the shows listed below do you think will land in the final lineup on...

On Sunday, Hollywood’s biggest names gathered at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Century City, California, as the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, honoring the best film and TV performances of the past year, were handed out live.
For the first time since 1998, the ceremony was not broadcast on TV. Instead, it aired on Netflix’s YouTube channel after it was announced that the platform will begin streaming the ceremony live in 2024, as part of a multi-year partnership with SAG-AFTRA.
Going into the awards, “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” both led with five nominations each, including four individual acting nods and one for ensemble. The two films tied a record previously set by “Shakespeare in Love” (1998), “Chicago” (2002), and “Doubt” (2008).
“Ozark”, meanwhile, had the most TV nominations, with four, including one for best drama ensemble, while “Barry” and “Only Murders in the Building” led the comedy categories with three each.

Timothée Chalamet is dreaming about Apple TV+ and its star-studded film and show lineup, as seen in a newly released campaign for the streaming service.
At the beginning of the ad, released Friday, the Dune actor is in a theater after watching the streamer’s film Coda, which won the Oscar for best picture. As Chalamet appears to be getting jealous, he says to his friend next to him, “I was in two best picture nominees last year.” His friend responds, “Yeah, no, I knew that. You were great.” The actor, desperate for validation, asks, “Yeah, you think so?”
The ad continues with the Bones and All star as he goes from fan events to photo shoots and press conferences. But at the same time, he continues to be distracted by the list of Hollywood names on Apple TV+ that doesn’t include his own.
Projects featured in the ad include Causeway with Jennifer Lawrence,...

wards season rolls ever onwards and today it was the turn of the Screen Actors Guild to announce their nominations. The SAG Awards have often been a useful pointer towards who will be nominated for acting Oscars, and indeed many of the expected choices are present here – Cate Blanchett, the Banshees Of Inisherin cast and, even more welcome, the ensemble of Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Newer breakthroughs are also expected names who have popped up elsewhere, such as Elvis' Austin Butler and Till's Danielle Deadwyler. And Brendan Fraser's "comeback" on The Whale also lands on the list here.
More surprising, perhaps, were those who didn't make the cut, such as The Fabelmans' Michelle Williams (while her co-star Paul Dano did) and a snub for the ensemble of Top Gun: Maverick.
The awards will be handed out at a ceremony to be broadcast via Netflix's YouTube channel on 26 February.

As usual, Gold Derby users were collectively right about most of this year’s SAG Awards nominations for TV, accurately predicting 31 out of 40 mentions across eight categories (not including Best Stunt Ensemble). However, some of the names and titles that were revealed on January 11 threw us for a loop. Scroll down to see the biggest surprises, and check out the complete list of nominees here.
In all, one cast and eight single performers surprised us by earning spots in the SAG TV lineup of nominees. Among dramas, we thought “House of the Dragon” would receive an ensemble bid for its premiere season, but the acting guild threw a third bone to the “Ozark” team for their farewell performances. Julia Garner also took us slightly off guard by picking up her third individual nomination for the Netflix crime series.

The Screen Actors Guild has announced the nominations for its 29th annual awards.
Honouring both film and TV, the awards are voted on by the Hollywood actors’ guild SAG-AFTRA.
This year’s ceremony will be live-streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel on Sunday 26 February, beginning at 8pm Est.
The move comes after the SAG Awards lost their longtime broadcast home on TNT and TBS. On Wednesday (11 January), they announced a new multiyear partnership with Netflix to stream the ceremony.
The SAG Awards have long been considered one of the most reliable Oscar predictors. Typically, if a film ensemble isn’t among the SAG Awards nominees, it’s unlikely to win Best Picture at the March Academy Awards.

The Golden Globes officially make their return to broadcast TV on January 10 after scrapping its 2022 telecast while the Hollywood Foreign Press Association made internal reforms. Awards trackers and pundits seem ready to forgive and forget now that the HFPA has diversified its membership, as there’s been much buzz over what this morning’s nominees, announced live on NBC’s “Today” show, will look like.
The upcoming Golden Globes also marks new supporting actor and actress categories in television categories. See below for the full list of nominees.
NBC will be televising the 2023 Golden Globes awards show as part of a one-year agreement. Hosting the ceremony on January 10 (a Tuesday!) will be Emmy-winning comedian, actor, and filmmaker Jerrod Carmichael.

The Golden Globes are officially back on television.
After a hiatus in 2022 due to protests about the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s perceived lack of diversity, the award show has undergone a massive restructuring before returning to television screens next week. The organization announced plans to shift from a nonprofit to a for-profit entity under the stewardship of Eldridge Industries, a firm run by HFPA interim CEO Todd L. Boehly. The organization also added more journalists of color to its ranks in an attempt to increase diversity among winners and nominees.
All that change has ensured that, at least for the moment, the Golden Globe Awards television broadcast you know is back on the airwaves. The 2023 Golden Globes will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 10 at 8 p.m. E.T./ 5 p.m. P.T. The show is set to air on NBC...

Exclusive: Taron Egerton and the creators behind Apple TV+’s lauded drama Black Bird are re-teaming on crime series Firebug, inspired by events surrounding notorious California arsonist John Leonard Orr.
Black Bird creator Dennis Lehane, star and executive producer Taron Egerton, and executive producers Richard Plepler, Kary Antholis, Bradley Thomas and Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin will re-team on the Apple Original series.
Written by Lehane and inspired by true events, Firebug will follow a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator (played by Rocketman star Egerton) as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists.
Former American firefighter Orr was an arson investigator for the Glendale Fire Department in Southern California. Initially hired to understand and track down cases of arson, he became a convicted serial arsonist himself. He was found to be the cause of a spate of high-profile fires across California in the 80s and 90s that...
