For years, Dolly Parton has favored gravity-defying hairstyles that are only possible through her extensive collection of wigs. Parton has spoken openly about her fondness for wigs and rarely steps out without one on. One of her former co-workers recalled Parton donning wigs in radio and television appearances when she was quite young.
Dolly Parton’s coworker recalled her wearing wigs from a young age
When Parton was ten years old, she began making appearances on Cas Walker’s Farm and Home Hour. This was a professional music gig, and Parton threw herself into her work. Even from an early age, she displayed some of the glittering showmanship that made her famous in adulthood. She wore eye-catching dresses, makeup, and, according to one musician on the show, wigs.
“She was always hep on wigs,” banjo player Bud Brewster said in the book Dolly by Alanna Nash. “She wore wigs — I mean,...

Clark Brewster, the lawyer representing Stormy Daniels, said that his client wore a bulletproof vest traveling to the courthouse former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
During an appearance on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360°, Brewster was asked if Daniels is afraid for her safety.
“Yeah, she has a lot of fear and – she really does,” he responded. “She was concerned about the security coming into New York. She wore a bulletproof vest every day until – until she got to the courthouse.”
“I can tell you that before she came on Sunday – I mean, she cried herself to sleep,” the lawyer stated. “She was very – she was paralyzed with fear, not of taking the stand or telling her story, but what might – some nut might do to her. And I’m genuinely concerned about it as well.”

In 1956, Dolly Parton made her first appearance on Cas Walker’s Farm and Home Hour. The program helped her get her start in the music industry and taught her how to perform. She worked surrounded by men, but Walker said Parton stood her own. He also said that men tended to avoid her.
Cas Walker said men avoided Dolly Parton
When Parton began appearing on Farm and Home Hour, Walker felt he needed to protect her from the various musicians surrounding her.
“I went on a lot of show dates I wouldn’t have went on, but she was fourteen or so, and I went to keep her from bein’ out there with a bunch of tush-hogs,” Walker said in the book Dolly by Alanna Nash. “Those tush-hogs — and there are a lot of ‘em in country music — weren’t safe to be around women. Dolly Parton has been navigating the music industry since she was a child. Her uncle drove her to performance venues and recording studios while she was still in school, and she made regular appearances on a local radio show. This taught her how to make her way in the male-dominated industry. According to one musician she knew, Parton didn’t let anyone push her around.
Dolly Parton always stood up for herself in the music industry
In 1956, Parton began making appearances on Cas Walker’s Farm and Home Hour. The radio show allowed her to showcase her talents to the Knoxville area and provided her with her first taste of fame. She was a child and had begun to work with older professional musicians. She didn’t appear to be intimidated by them, though.

Shelley Duvall has been through the ringer. Once a staple in the works of Robert Altman – she didn’t work with another director between her 1970’s Brewster McCloud and 1977’s 3 Women – Duvall then had parts working for Woody Allen in Annie Hall and Stanley Kubrick in The Shining. But things sort of just fell apart and Duvall became a punchline, eventually retreating from the movie business entirely, spending the bulk of her time in Texas. Now, with her first movie in 20+ years, The Forest Hills, under her belt, she has some thoughts about the industry.
In a terrific new piece in The New York Times, Shelley Duvall said she was more or less betrayed by Hollywood. “I was a star; I had leading roles…People think it’s just aging, but it’s not. It’s violence.” Duvall doesn’t mean physical violence, however, adding, “How would you feel if people were really nice,...

ABC is piloting a new comedy starring and exec produced by Ty Burrell.
Deadline revealed that the multicamera project Forgive & Forget was in the works a year ago and the project, which comes from Punky Brewster duo Eugene Garcia-Cross and Robin Shorr, is now moving forward.
It is the latest pilot order for the Disney-owned network; Deadline revealed that Tim Allen was returning to ABC for a family comedy from Duncanville co-creators Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Sully. That marked the first pilot order of the season for ABC, which has instead been focusing on year-round development.
The show, which comes from 20th Television, follows perennial life of the party Hank (Burrell). After an unexpected diagnosis, Hank reconnects with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together.
Garcia-Cross will write with Shorr as showrunner. They will exec produce alongside Burrell via his Desert Whale Productions banner.

Criminal Minds star Paget Brewster was looking like a mainstay on the series before her departure in season seven. The actor once set the record straight on the real reason she left the series.
How Paget Brewster came back to ‘Criminal’ Minds’ Paget Brewster | Neil Jacobs/Getty Images
At the time, many were surprised by Brewster’s exit from Criminal Minds. She was brought on board the team during the show’s second season as agent Emily Prentiss. Brewster seemed poised to become as much of a constant presence on the show as Shemar Moore and some of the other co-stars. But she, along with her Criminal Minds co-star A.J. Cook, were let go from the show.
Speaking with Assignment X, Brewster confided that those behind the series simply wanted to shake up the show. They felt reducing Brewster’s role would’ve added some spontaneity, which Brewster felt was a mistake.

Stormy Daniels is “set to testify” in Donald Trump’s hush money trial, which will take place in Manhattan in March.
The former president pleaded not guilty in April to a 34-count criminal indictment accusing him of falsifying business records concerning a hush money payment made to Daniels before the 2016 election.
“Obviously, things have been next-level crazy since I am set to testify in, at this point in time, March,” Daniels said during Sunday’s episode of her podcast, “Beyond the Norm.”
Judge Juan Merchan has set a trial date of March 25, though proceedings may be delayed due to Trump’s other criminal cases.
Daniels’ lawyer, Clark Brewster, declined to comment on his client’s potential testimony.
“That will be their call,” Brewster told ABC News. “I have no clue as to their timing, strategy and whether they will call her as a witness.”

After making “American Promise,” Michèle Stephenson and Joe Brewster were looking to create a very different type of documentary. The married co-directors had spent over a decade documenting their son and his best friend’s journey through Dalton, one of the most prestigious private schools in the country.
“That was 13 years of intense verité filmmaking,” said Stephenson, when she and Brewster were on IndieWire’s Toolkit podcast. “And I think as artists, we wanted to explore the medium and figure out what other kind of storytelling can we try.”
The filmmaking partners knew they were looking for a new project that would allow them to use archival footage to focus on an artist but push beyond a normal biography profile. Brewster, in particular, was focused on making a film about a musician. “Music is an entry to your soul,” said Brewster. “And so we thought that would be emotionally resonant...

"I remember what's important and I make up the rest. That's what storytelling's all about." HBO unveiled an official trailer for the acclaimed documentary Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project, made by the two doc filmmakers Joe Brewster & Michèle Stephenson. This premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the top Grand Jury prize in its documentary section. This award-winning film travels through time & space to reveal the enduring influence of Nikki Giovanni, one of America's greatest living artists & social commentators. It reckons with the inevitable passing of time in a collision of memories, moments in American history, live readings, and visually unique depictions of Giovanni's poetry. Narrated by Taraji P. Henson. "Brewster & Stephenson's approach is imaginative and dreamlike, akin to the way Giovanni’s words are hair-raising in their power to summon unrealized ways of seeing." I watched this at Sundance and was also wowed by it,...

Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project centers on the poet, with Giovanni herself on screen. Co-director Joe Brewster said he did not want to do a traditional documentary or biopic, and drew inspiration from documentaries on James Baldwin and Kurt Cobain.
“We actually pitched it as I Am Not Your Negro meets Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck,” Brewster said at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Documentary.
Co-director Michèle Stephenson added that she wanted the film to center on Giovanni, rather than other talking heads reflecting on her impact.
“Some of our visual vision and story vision came out of a bit of frustration with watching certain biographical documentaries,” Stephenson said. “We wanted to center her and her work and see everything through her voice to get a sense of how the process, the artistic poetry-making process happened.”
Brewster and Stephenson also got creative when Giovanni’s memory was limited,...

We've been clamoring for more Criminal Minds since Criminal Minds Evolution Season 1 left us gasping due to its shocking revelations.
Despite scoring a speedy renewal, the long-running drama that morphed into a streaming series a year ago hasn't yet entered production.
Earlier this year, there was word that filming would begin imminently, so fresh episodes were on the air for fans quickly.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes brought Hollywood to a standstill, meaning no new episodes could be produced.
Recently, both guilds reached deals with the AMPTP to fairly compensate writers and actors for their work, clearing the way for production to get underway.
Paget Brewster took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to respond to a fan to give some updates about the show and it's good news.

"We're thrilled to bring even more twisted storylines to our loyal fans of Criminal Minds: Evolution with the order of another season," Paramount Streaming chief programming officer Tanya Giles said in a statement.

A sequel to 2019’s Trauma Therapy, the story continues as self-help guru Tobin Vance (Tom Malloy) arrives in the UK to avoid arrest from his US operations while secretly running more retreats. With the help of new assistants, he seeks to lure vulnerable individuals into a promised retreat to better themselves, yet the group are unaware of the nightmares awaiting them.
It should be noted that Trauma Therapy: Psychosis arrived with an air of controversy revealed on Twitter by director Lawrie Brewster. He considers this film to be an unauthorized re-edit of his film, with criticism aimed at it being “exploitative of Tom Sizemore’s death”, which left Brewster to request that the director credit be given to his...

A few months ago, while covering Hex Studios’ fantasy film throwback The Slave and the Sorcerer, we also mentioned that Hex was also working to “build a new British horror and fantasy studio that’s inspired by the likes of Cannon, Hammer, and Aip”. Now their endeavor has taken a mind-blowing leap forward: Hex Studios has announced they’re working with the family of late producer Milton Subotsky to resurrect Amicus Productions! Hex co-founder Lawrie Brewster is set to be the president of the revived Amicus… and their first project will be exactly the sort of movie Amicus is best remembered for: a horror portmanteau (or anthology) film called In the Grip of Terror!

Jordana Brewster is detailing what she enjoys most about doing her own stunts in the Fast & Furious franchise.
During an interview with Yahoo Life, published online Friday, the actress initially recalled learning about “discipline and maintenance” as a teen when her mother, Brazilian model Maria João, first introduced her to fitness.
Throughout her career, Brewster admitted that she has faced pressure to conform to Hollywood’s beauty standards, but that she now credits her multicultural upbringing for helping her overcome it. She added, “I’ve always loved being strong.”
And that strength and mindset are what has allowed her to push herself in the Fast & Furious films, where she has starred as Mia Toretto for more than two decades.
“The more physical it is, the more fun it is for me,” she said of her performance and stunts. “When you’re working with a stunt team, it’s...

Talk about an awkward family dinner! Sophie (Hilary Duff) sits down for a meal with her parents, Lori (Paget Brewster) and Nick (Clark Gregg), in the July 4 episode of How I Met Your Father, and TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek. (Francia Raisa‘s Valentina has a front row seat to… all of it.) In this next episode, Sophie tries to Parent Trap her parents … only, as the clip shows, that’s not exactly necessary. When Lori joins Sophie and Valentina in a restaurant, she “casually” asks if Nick is there yet because she’s “excited to meet him.” Not yet, Sophie says, “must’ve gotten stuck in some traffic,” adding under her breath, “coming from smoochville.” Though Lori and Nick try to keep up the ruse that they’re seeing each other for the first time in years, Sophie calls them out on it. Cut the act, losers,...

When Rob Cohen made "The Fast and the Furious" in 2001, he couldn't possibly have known that it would eventually spawn one of the largest film franchises of all time. The original film was downright modest, even wispy, when compared to some of the more recent chapters in the overblown "Furious" franchise. In it, an LAPD cop named Johnny Utah ... er, I mean Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) goes undercover in the strange and ultra-cool world of surfers ... er, I mean L.A. street racers to track down and arrest their ringleader Bodhi ... er, I mean Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) for a recent rash of high-profile thefts. Michelle Rodriguez appeared as Letty, Dom's girlfriend, and Jordana Brewster played Mia, Dom's sister and Brian's would-be paramour.
Over the course of the film's many sequels, Letty and Mia would eventually play larger and larger parts in the story and finally be allowed to do more than fall in love,...

As Fast X hit theaters this weekend, buzz has quickly spread about the film’s post-credit scene, which sees the surprise return of both Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Gal Gadot’s Gisele Yashar.
Johnson and franchise star Vin Diesel have famously clashed in the past, as director Louis Leterrier previously told The Hollywood Reporter he and others had brokered the “peace treaty,” saying, “We reached out to Dwayne and his team and said, ‘Just come and watch the movie. You have to love the movie first.’ So, he came to see the movie and really loved it, and then we started talking.”
Now Diesel is also opening up about the decision to bring back the two stars, noting, “The conversations have been going on for a while.”

The entire “The Fast and Furious” universe consists of 13 installments: 10 movies, one show and two short films. The world of fast cars, illegal street racing and iconic beefs was created by Gary Scott Thompson. The writer, director and producer kicked off the franchise with the first film “The Fast and the Furious,” which was directed by Rob Cohen, with a story by Thompson and Ken Li.
The first film in what would become a country-hopping international franchise, starred Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Matt Schulze and Ricky Yune and more. “The Fast and the Furious” told the story of Dominic Toretto (Diesel), who has a passion and drive for street racing, and after a run-in with Johnny Tran (Yune), he takes racing newcomer Brian (Walker) under his wing. However, Dom and his sister Mia (Brewster) have no idea that he’s an undercover cop, and they are...

You may recall that the last entry in the Fast and Furious saga, 2021’s F9, featured a sequence in which two of the Avengers our heroes—the comic foils Tyrese Gibson and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges—drove a car into outer space. There is not anything quite as wacky as that in the 10th and latest installment, Fast X, but there are still plenty of reality-defying stunts that keep this franchise from returning to Earth in any fashion that’s recognizably rooted in reality.
Still, back in F9, one got the sense that the film was at least leaning into its sheer ridiculousness, which made it more palatable and entertaining. With one notable exception, however, Dominic Toretto’s much-discussed Family is now taking itself far too seriously. As a result, the 141-minute movie is a fairly lumbering and tedious sit.

The Fast and Furious movies may all be about fast cars, but the franchise has gotten so congested it’s a wonder they’re able to break the speed limit.
The latest installment in this surprisingly durable series jams in so many existing and new characters, both living and presumed dead, that just creating the call sheets must have been a nightmare. There are so many lovingly displayed photographs of current and former castmembers laced throughout the film, you begin to wonder if you’re watching an action movie or the world’s most violent bar mitzvah.
Considering the amount of money these films have made for Universal, and the fact that the series has gone longer than many of its current viewers will have been alive, it’s hard to blame Vin Diesel and company for taking a victory lap. Or laps, as this supposed end to the franchise...

"Fast X," which is set to hit theaters on May 19, will mark the beginning of the end of the Fast and Furious franchise. Initially, the series was meant to wrap up with a two-part finale. However, at the "Fast X" premiere in Rome, Italy, on May 12, Vin Diesel, who's led the franchise as Dominic Toretto since 2001, teased the movies could end with a trilogy instead. Although he didn't officially confirm or deny anything, his co-star Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz) fueled the rumors by telling Fandango, "It's three acts in any story."
If it's true, then the series will officially end after 13 movies. Castmembers like Diesel, Rodriguez, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris have starred in the majority of the "Fast and Furious" films, while Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham led the 2019 spinoff film "Hobbs & Shaw." Vin Diesel had CinemaCon audiences worked up, laughing and cheering with off-script moments as he thanked theater owners for their work over the years on the Fast and Furious saga.
“I should be reading from the teleprompter. But you guys don’t give a shit about the teleprompter,” Diesel said to applause during a slow, methodical speech in which he waxed philosophical about the values of family and his love for theaters. At one point, he mockingly read the rather trite words he was supposed to deliver, something about Fast picking up the mantle while Avengers rested and Star Wars put down the lightsaber. More laughs and cheers from the crowd ensued.

Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Sung Kang took the stage to reminiscence about the long-running ‘Fast Saga’ franchise movie by movie, from the 2001 “The Fast and the Furious” to the upcoming “Fast X.” They joked about Dwayne Johnson joining in “Fast Five” and paid their respect to Paul Walker while discussing “Furious 7.”

A new made-in-Canada science fiction thriller is on the horizon, and Et Canada has an exclusive clip and a first look at the posters for “Simulant”.
Directed by April Mullen and filmed in Hamilton, Ontario, the movie boasts an impressive cast including Canadians Robbie Amell and Simu Liu, in addition to Jordana Brewster (of “The Fast and the Furious” franchise) and Sam Worthington (“Avatar: The Way of Water”).
Set in a not-distant future in which androids walk among humans, the film focuses on Simulants, physically indistinguishable from humans while implanted with all the memories and mannerisms of their human counterparts.

One of the best things about "Community" is the almost absurd level of care that seems to go into every moment of the show. For instance, one episode features a secret subplot where Abed helps deliver a baby entirely in the background. What's crazier is that the pregnant couple Abed helps was also featured in a season 1 episode (nine months earlier!) where Abed tells everyone to not use the condoms the school's been handing out. You can see them throwing the condom wrapper away in the background of the scene.
It's the sort of joke that's so subtle and patient that, if the show hadn't developed such a passionate fanbase, it probably never would've been noticed. Another example of this was the Beetlejuice joke, something that took three whole seasons to pull off and which the average viewer had basically no chance of noticing on the first viewing, or even the second.

Sundance prize winning directors Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson have signed with Range Media Partners
At the 2023 festival, Brewster and Stephenson won the grand jury prize for U.S. Documentary for their feature ”Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project.”
Harvard-and Stanford–trained psychiatrist, Brewster, and Columbia Law School graduate Stephenson decided to pursue filmmaking together, and by 2006 the two founded Rada Studio. The studio has provided creators the opportunity to think radically about storytelling and work to disrupt nonfiction spaces. The pair works together to build reality, fiction, immersive and hybrid stories that embrace and deliver compelling narratives, which are all created by, for, and about the Black and Brown communities.
The couple’s award-winning documentary retells the story of acclaimed poet Nikki Giovanni, highlighting the revolutionary historical periods Giovanni lived through. “Going to Mars” recounts Giovanni’s experiences that span from the Civil Rights and Black Arts...
