The opening scenes of director Christian Sparkes’ The King Tide set an ominous tone: a powerful storm takes down the power lines of a small island town as a pregnant woman loses her child while her dementia-suffering mother sits nearby. In the morning, as the town takes stock of the damage and the power is restored, a surprising discovery is found in an overturned boat in the harbour: a baby girl…with the ability to heal.
Writers Albert Shin and William Woods, working from a story by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby, treat the story as something of a morality tale mixed with a fable. Following the cold open, the action jumps ahead 10 years at a point when the unnamed island is thriving. The fishing is bountiful, the islanders are self-sufficient and have cut ties with the mainland, and most everyone is happy.

Plot: In a remote fishing village, a wrecked boat containing a baby washes up on the shore. Rescued by the local mayor (Clayne Crawford) and his wife (Lara Jean Chorostecki), they adopt the baby and name her Isla. As it turns out, the child has mysterious healing powers and can even fill the sea with fish, allowing the island to be completely self-sufficient. As she grows into a young woman (Alix West Lefler), Isla becomes almost like a deity, but when her powers fail, the town becomes desperate to protect their way of life, no matter what the cost may be to Isla herself.
Review: The King Tide reminded me a lot of the type of genre-tinged morality tales we used to get from Rod Serling’s version of The Twilight Zone. The premise is pretty intriguing. Imagine a child existed in your town whose mere presence guaranteed your health...

A few weeks ago I received a rather intriguing invite. Vvs Films, one of the biggest film distributors in Canada, invited JoBlo.com to participate in a press junket for the new film, The King Tide, which was to be held in Newfoundland. As a proud Canadian, I was excited, as I had never visited the Maritimes before.
Indeed, the studio seemed to be rolling out the red carpet for the assembled press, with us being treated to a wonderful experience in St. John’s, Newfoundland, which included me being “screeched in” (watch it right here) at a local pub (located on St. George Street which has the highest amount of per capita bars per street in the country), which included drinking rum (count me in!), kissing a cod and eating baloney (ewww – gross). We also got to take a trip to scenic Bonavista, close to where the film was shot.

James McAvoy (Split) dives back into the horror genre with Speak No Evil, Blumhouse’s English language remake of the critically acclaimed 2022 Danish film Gæsterne. The two-minute trailer shows a married couple immediately regretting their decision to visit old friends while on vacation.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 6 “Alert the Sheriff.”] “I didn’t sleep much, but it was a lot of fun,” series star, creator, and executive producer Max Thieriot says of directing the latest episode of Fire Country. That’s because a lot happens. It introduces Morena Baccarin as Mickey, Sharon’s (Diane Farr) estranged sister. (Mickey also arrested Thieriot’s Bode in the past.) An inmate, after realizing he’ll probably die of cancer before he earns his freedom, escapes Three Rock; Mickey, with Bode’s help, tracks him and the corrupt sheriff down. And the paternity results come in, revealing that Bode is, in fact, not Genevieve’s (Alix West Lefler) dad. Below, Thieriot talks about that paternity reveal, what it means for Bode, introducing Mickey, and more. Plus, let us know your thoughts on the potential new sheriff-centric series we could see here. Bode isn’t Genevieve’s father.

James McAvoy may have a murderous intent in the new trailer for Speak No Evil, a horror film based on 2022 Danish hit Gæsterne. In the clip, an American couple played by Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy arrive at a remote estate along with their daughter after meeting a seemingly charming British family on vacation. Everything appears to be going well, until they notice the family’s mute son is acting strangely and McAvoy’s character begins to menace at every turn.

Since Barbarian put the fear of weirdness into us all about AirBnBs, what are we to do for holiday ideas? Surely agreeing to stay with the seemingly charming couple you met while travelling is a good idea, right? If new horror movie Speak No Evil is to be believed… absolutely not. Check out the first trailer:
The Woman In Black's James Watkins is the writer/director here, with Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis (Halt And Catch Fire reunion klaxon!) as Americans Louise and Ben Dalton, holidaying with daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler). They meet Paddy (James McAvoy), his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi) and their furtive, mute son Ant (Dan Hough) and seem to hit it off. Paddy invites them to stay at his and Ciara's house, and Louise and Ben eagerly accept. But after they arrive at the isolated, definitely not-creepy-at-all farmhouse, things soon turn a lot darker. What secrets is Paddy hiding?...

"What is wrong with you?!" Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have revealed the first official trailer the unsettling horror remake Speak No Evil, a Hollywood take on the Danish horror film Speak No Evil from 2022. This takes the same disturbing plot and spins in a bit, though it does stick fairly closely to the other film. Two families meet while on holiday, and one invites the other to their country estate. After they arrive at an idyllic English country house, it morphs from a dream vacation into a psychological nightmare when Paddy takes over. This new Speak No Evil movie stars Mackenzie Davis & Scoot McNairy as American couple Louise & Ben Dalton, who, along with their 11-year-old daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler), accept a weekend holiday invitation of Paddy (James McAvoy), and his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi), and their furtive, mute son Ant (newcomer Dan Hough). Damn this looks crazy intense and terrifying!

Fire Country is once again grieving a major loss following Cara’s (Sabina Gadecki) death as a result of the injuries she sustained during the fire tornado. “It’s an emotional rollercoaster. I think everyone’s relationships will be tested,” executive producer Tia Napolitano tells TV Insider of Edgewater and any potential character or relationship breakdowns going forward. “Everyone’s emotional state will be tested. We’re back grieving someone, which is kind of an area we really explored in the pilot where the death of Riley loomed so big, and now we have the death of Cara very fresh, a very fresh wound in our world. So I think everyone is going to experience a test of their fortitude.” At the end of the latest episode, Jake (Jordan Calloway) is watching over Cara’s daughter Genevieve (Alix West Lefler), who might also be his best friend Bode’s (Max Thieriot...

Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points from Friday’s episode of Fire Country on CBS.
In Friday’s episode dubbed “This Storm Will Pass,” the Edgewater firefighters encounter their first firenado that ends up taking the life of someone very close to the team.
Here, showrunner Tia Napolitano and executive producers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan explain why it made sense to say goodbye to a character who was first introduced in season one, and how the Cal Fire team — especially Bode (Max Thieriot) — will respond going forward.
Deadline: So was this your first firenado?
Joan Rater: Yes, we’re firenado virgins?
Tia Napolitano: We ask all the writers to come in with the most interesting incidents, big or small, at the top of the season. Someone pitched a firenado. Obviously that’s on the big end of the spectrum and we all gravitated toward it really early.

On the eve of the king tide, a life is lost via miscarriage while another is found crying in the hull of a capsized boat come ashore. Is it a sign? Some cosmic balancing of scales? Perhaps a test of empathy, morality, and humanity for citizens of a small island village that will soon do anything to keep it as their own. Because this child isn’t like any other. She has an unexplainable gift: anyone near her will suddenly be healed of all ailments. If it’s a revelation that can change everything, its potential salvation is but one side of the coin. The other’s combination of complacency, jealousy, and divinity brings destruction.

The first time Frances Fisher’s character appears in The King Tide, she’s stooped, uncommunicative, crushed by life and perhaps by a stroke. When the main action picks up, 10 years later, she’s a glowing picture of New Agey vim and vigor, and the island where she lives has been transformed. Nobody fears illness anymore because all discomforts and injuries are relieved by the miraculous healing powers of a little girl. The small population is united and harmonious — until the little girl’s powers lapse.
In this story of strong atmospherics and well-etched types, an isolated community discovers an otherworldly source of harmony, and the North Atlantic setting is as much a character as any of the villagers. Shooting in the tiny Newfoundland town of Keels, director Christian Sparkes (Hammer) plunges straight into a mood of crisis and foreboding with scenes of a pregnant woman’s bloody miscarriage and a disruptive storm.

"He's been killing people - without even touching them." Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a mystery thriller titled The Good Nurse, from Danish filmmaker Tobias Lindholm. It's premiering at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival first this month, then will be streaming in October on Netflix. A gripping thriller based on true events (which is especially scary), The Good Nurse is directed by Academy Award nominee Tobias Lindholm (for Another Round), written by Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and stars Academy Award winners Jessica Chastain as Amy Loughren and Eddie Redmayne as Charles Cullen, as well as Nnamdi Asomugha, Noah Emmerich, Malik Yoba, Alix West Lefler, and Kim Dickens. What's going on? An infamous caregiver is implicated in the deaths of hundreds of hospital patients. What is the truth? What's really going on, why is he doing this? This looks especially eerie and unsettling, with such a dark performance by Redmayne.

Netflix has a knack for getting a lot of very talented people together in movies that seemingly just wouldn't get made at a traditional studio anymore. Case in point, "The Good Nurse" is a movie that features two Oscar winners in the form of Jessica Chastain ("It Chapter Two") and Eddie Redmayne ("The Theory of Everything") front-and-center in a thriller that is based on true events.
As the title implies, they are nurses working at a hospital but, as it turns out, only one of them is good and the other might actually be very bad. For a movie with such a seemingly innocuous title, the body count certainly stacks up in a hurry here. Let's take a gander, shall we?
The Good Nurse Trailer Is Full Of Murder And Intrigue
Things don't take long to get a little twisted as Chastain's character Amy meets up with Redmayne's Charlie at a coffee shop.
