Exclusive: Death and Other Details co-creator/executive producer Mike Weiss has joined CBS’ drama series FBI as executive producer and showrunner. Meanwhile, Allen MacDonald has been tapped as executive producer and showrunner of NBC’s Chicago Med. Both Wolf Entertainment/Universal Television dramas are Top 10 broadcast series in Live+7 Nielsen viewership.
Weiss and MacDonald fill the showrunner vacancies left by the departures of veterans Rick Eid (FBI) and Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider (Chicago Med) who had been at the helm of the two series from the start. (Eid continues as showrunner of Wolf’s Law & Order.) The showrunners of the remaining FBI, Chicago and Law & Order series are staying put.
FBI, which recently scored a three-year renewal from CBS, is headed to its seventh season; Chicago Med is going into its 10th season.

Law & Order is losing another veteran actor.
The NBC drama will bid farewell to star Camryn Manheim on May 16, the season 23 finale. The actress was a key part of the cast when Dick Wolf revived the flagship procedural for its 21st season.
Manheim becomes the second star to depart L&o this season with her upcoming exit coming on the heels of original star Sam Waterston, who exited in February as D.A. Jack McCoy. He had appeared in more than 400 episodes of the flagship series and returned to lead the revival that remains a high priority for both Wolf and NBC.
To fill the void created by Waterston’s exit, L&o recruited former Scandal favorite Tony Goldwyn to be the show’s new D.A. and join a cast that also includes Hugh Dancy, Reid Scott, Mechad Brooks and Odelya Halevi.

Dick Wolf is in for another busy season at NBC. No surprise here, the Peacock network has renewed “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu” for the 2024-25 broadcast TV season. Among Dick Wolf scripted series, that leaves just “Law & Order: Organized Crime” on the bubble; a renewal for that show, which has experienced multiple showrunner changes in its short life, is still in discussion.
Among the shows, this will rep the 26th season of “Law & Order: SVU,” the 24th season of “Law & Order,” Season 13 for “Chicago Fire,” the 12th season for “Chicago PD” and the 10th season for “Chicago Med.” All of the renewed series are produced by Universal Studio Group’s Universal Television division, along with Wolf Entertainment, and all shows stream the following day on Peacock. NBC has renewed most — but not all — of the shows in its two biggest franchises for the 2024-25 season.
The network has ordered new seasons of all three of its Chicago dramas — Med, Fire and Pd — along with Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu. Notably missing from the list is Law & Order: Organized Crime, whose status is “still under discussion,” according to NBC. All six series come from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.
Svu will add to its record as the longest-running primetime drama in American TV history with a 26th season in 2024-25, while Law & Order — which recently saw the departure of series fixture Sam Waterston — will air its 24th. [Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Season 23, Episode 4 of “Law & Order.”]
Among Sam Waterston’s last words as Jack McCoy was “integrity.”
The film and television actor walked away from “Law & Order” for good Thursday night, February 22, ending his 30-year stint as Dick Wolf’s most recognizable Manhattan D.A. in a mixed bag of an episode. An awkward Central Park swan song (goose song?), Season 23’s “Last Dance” demonstrates not only how much Waterston has changed as a performer — but just how little police procedurals have been able to evolve with socially divided network audiences in recent years.
Yes, Jack’s junkyard dog bravado gave way to a subtler anger in the series’ revival seasons; and he stopped sleeping with all those assistant district attorneys, which certainly helped. [This story contains spoilers from the Feb. 22, 2024 episode of Law & Order, “Last Dance.”]
Jack McCoy left the world of Law & Order the way he came into it — in a courtroom.
Sam Waterston said goodbye to the long-running NBC franchise in Thursday’s episode, ending his 19-season, 405-episode run as prosecutor-turned-New York County District Attorney Jack McCoy. Waterston’s final episode saw Jack returning to the courtroom to finish trying a murder case in which the defendant is a billionaire with close ties to New York’s mayor.
The episode, titled “Last Dance” and written by showrunner Rick Eid, constructs a solid but not slam-dunk case against Scott Kelton (Rob Benedict), who’s accused of killing a former employee, Veronica Knight (Shay Guthrie), who was about to go public with an accusation that he had sexually assaulted her several years earlier. McCoy instructs prosecutor Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) not to accept a plea deal with less than a 10-year sentence...

Writers have returned to work on the Dick Wolf-produced TV franchises “Law & Order,” “FBI” and “Chicago Fire,” Wolf Entertainment announced on Wednesday.
The WGA strike, which had lasted 148 days, ended on Sept. 24 after the guild came to a deal with the AMPTP regarding streaming residuals, AI protections and other key issues.
Meanwhile, showrunners have been shuffled across the Dick Wolf universe: “Chicago Fire” goes into Season 12 on NBC with lone showrunner Andrea Newman, who formerly ran the show along with Derek Haas. CBS’ “FBI International” has promoted Matt Olmstead from executive producer to showrunner for Season 3.
The Christopher Meloni-led “Law & Order: Organized Crime” has not yet named a new showrunner after the exit of Sean Jablonski in March. David Graziano, who returns as “Svu” showrunner for Season 25 of the Mariska Hargitay-starring series, had stepped in to oversee the final three episodes of the “Oc” Season 3.

Eight of Wolf Entertainment/Universal Television writers rooms are opening this week following the end of the writers strike. Additionally, two new showrunners have been named: “Chicago Fire” Season 12 will be run by Andrea Newman, formerly co-showrunner with Derek Haas; and “FBI: International” Season 3 will be run by executive producer Matt Olmstead.

A kidnapping in Rome sets off events that have all three “FBI” teams banding together in a three-hour event on Tuesday, April 4. Jeremy Sisto’s character, special agent Jubal Valentine, jets from the New York Field office to Italy to help out “FBI: International” star Scott Forrester, who’s played by Luke Kleintank. Meanwhile, Stuart Scola (John Boyd) goes undercover and teams up with Remy Scott (Dylan McDermott) of “FBI: Most Wanted” to stop a mass-casualty terror attack in New York City.
Ahead of the episode, Sisto told TheWrap what to expect from Jubal being a “fish out of water” overseas without his usual team around him, his theory on why his character speaks Italian, and which actor he’d like to play Jubal’s Italian grandfather should a future storyline require it.
The crossover starts with “FBI: International,” then segues back to “FBI,” finishing with the Fugitive Task Force on “FBI: Most Wanted.

Back on September 21, 2021, Dick Wolf’s FBI franchise launched its first triple crossover, a successful gambit attaching then-new FBI: International to Tuesday night’s popular FBI and FBI: Most Wanted team. Eighteen months later, the members of the three very different and far-flung task forces are reuniting — this time, to foil a potential mass casualty event that’s accidentally discovered during an operation being run by FBI’s New York Field Office agent Stuart Scola (John Boyd), who’s posing as a black-market seller of industrial-grade explosives. Here’s a preview of the gripping three hours. The action kicks off on Tuesday, April 4 at 8/7c on CBS. Here, FBI executive producer and crossover supervisor Rick Eid explains each episode’s through-lines to TV Insider. Elisabeth Röhm, who played Ada Serena Southerlyn on “Law & Order” from 2001 to 2005, returned after 17 years to direct last week’s episode “Only the Lonely” through NBCU’s Launch Female Forward program.
“It’s poetic to come back at this juncture of my life,” Röhm told TheWrap. “Dick Wolf gave me my first opportunity as an actress, and he gave me my first opportunity as an episodic director.”
“It’s almost surreal. I can’t explain how monumental it was to share in those scenes with the new cast. Odelya especially, just to help her, elevate her, support her, and help develop that character. And just be a part of the story of the new reboot,” said Röhm about the episode, in which Odelya Halevi’s character, Ada Samantha Maroun, stands up for a female witness, played by Alysia Reiner, whose reputation as a lawyer will be ruined if she’s forced to testify.

For those who have been wondering what would happen to Special Agent Nina Chase (Shantel VanSanten), whose been working with the team in Maggie Bell’s absence on FBI, and with Missy Peregrym’s return just one episode away, the special November 6 installment should give us the answer. In “Double Bind”, the team works to rescue a five-year-old kidnapping victim, leading to a bit of friction between Nina and Special Agent Stuart Scola (John Boyd) on the job. “Nina and Scola clash over how to best tackle the case of a missing child. And it’s a big episode for them personally as well. Nina struggles to open up to him about their relationship. “Turns out ...
