You might know Robbie Tann from Preacher, The Deuce, or when he played Billy on Mare of Easttown, or Whitty in the “Mazey Day” episode of the latest season of Black Mirror. Currently he plays Shipley in this year’s most exciting and original sci-fi film, The Creator. On this episode, he tells how the run-and-gun style of shooting on that production, combined with the cast and crew’s infectious passion for the project, helped with all aspects of his work. He explains why he now bypasses a straightforward “roadmap” of preparation, focusing instead on letting the role seep into his unconscious. […]

Despite not bearing an iota of negativity in terms of English Grammar, the word “Paparazzi” always gets associated with something being irritating or obnoxious. And the reason for that is the usual Paparazzi culture, where a person would do literally anything to get their “money shot” of a celebrity. It is strange that it took this long for Charlie Brooker to make a Black Mirror episode out of it. Now that he has finally done it, I have got to say that he has mostly nailed it. Of course, Brooker has done it in his own style- by presenting us the movie equivalent of a peanut butter sandwich, but with a surprise addition of bacon in it. Mazey Day starts as a rather serious take on the Paparazzi culture, which soon turns into an investigative thriller, until it takes the full-blown monster horror route in the blood-soaked final act.

When nice guys turn nasty: ‘The Good Nurse’ could follow in the Oscar footsteps of ‘Night Must Fall’
Oscar-winning Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) has been testing out his darker side of late. The baby-faced 40-year-old British actor has made a name for playing nice, often complex guys. But last year, he turned that persona on its ear in London’s West End playing the smarmy and decadent Emcee in the revival of the musical “Cabaret.” He won the prestigious Olivier Award for his performance.
And now he’s giving a killer of a performance as a serial murderer in Netflix’s fact-based thriller “The Good Nurse.” Redmayne’s hospital nurse Charlie is friendly and sweet with a great bedside manner. But beneath this caring visage lurks a vicious mind who killed at least 400 patients at various hospitals over the years.
Doing a 180 from his usual fare, recalls Robert Montgomery’s shift with 1937’s “Night Must Fall.” Best known these days as the father of Elizabeth Montgomery of “Bewitched” fame,...
