There is a scene very early in Morgan Krantz's Babysitter that made me shut my eyes. Sitting there, eyes closed, I was no longer hearing the young mother, played by Valerie Azlynn, frantically telling her ex-husband it's time to play hardball now that he's turned off the family's cable and cell phones. That was when I started to realize that our parents aren't always the ones who protect us from monsters, sometimes our parents are the monsters and at times, we have to protect ourselves from them anyway we know how. In Babysitter, we meet high schooler Ray (Parenthood's Max...

In honor of Jan. 21 being both Hug Appreciation Day and Squirrel Appreciation Day, actor Justin Long made a video skit for "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" where he combines the two days and tries to celebrate Squirrel Hug Appreciation Day.
Unfortunately, the real squirrels don't really go for it -- one even bites him. But Justin does find solace in the arms of a giant plush squirrel, then promptly fouls everything up by taking things a little too far. Oh, Justin.
Below, Valerie Azlynn gives Craig a crocheted skeleton squirrel to celebrate. Everybody's getting in on the fun!

While "Iron Man 3" will be storming theaters nationwide this weekend, if you want to avoid the crowds, long lines and give your brain something besides VFX explosions and eardrum rattling sound, the low key indie "Caroline & Jackie" might fit the bill. The feature directorial debut of Adam Christian Clark, the story centers on Caroline (played by "Shameless" star Marguerite Moreau), who is on a celebratory birthday trip and decides visits her sister, Jackie (Tulloch) and her boyfriend (Giuntoli). But what starts out as a fun evening with close friends, quickly goes awry. As you'll see in this exclusive clip, Caroline has more than one opinion that she's not afraid to share. Bitsie Tulloch (“Grimm”), David Giuntoli (“Grimm”), Valerie Azlynn, David Fuit, and Jason Gray-Stanford all round out the cast in the film that premiered last year at the Tribeca Film Festival. "Caroline And Jackie" opens on May 3rd in limited release and will.

TBS is going 2-for-2 with its new comedy series with a renewal of freshman Sullivan & Son executive produced by Vince Vaughn. As part of its return to half-hour sitcoms, TBS launched two new shows behind its blockbuster off-network performer The Big Bang Theory this year, Men At Work and Sullivan & Son. Both have now been picked up for a second season. Airing Thursdays at 10 Pm, Sullivan & Son, which has received a 10-episode second-season order, is averaging more than 2.5 million viewers. “Sullivan & Son has gotten off to a strong start, quickly building its own fan base,” said TBS’ head of programming Michael Wright. After a solid launch with 2.5 million viewers, Sullivan & Son exceeded expectations in Week 2 when it held onto 100% of its premiere audience. The series stars Steve Byrne as a corporate attorney who finds new life behind the bar when he leaves his Manhattan lifestyle and moves to Pittsburgh to take over his parents’ pub.

Chicago – TBS has been an unusual network over the last couple years, building a lot of comedy success off of repeats of hits like “The Big Bang Theory” and “Family Guy” while also satisfying a loyal audience for comedians like Tyler Perry and his line of sitcoms and Conan O’Brien and his talk show. However, an expected slate of original sitcoms never really surfaced until this year when “Men at Work” was a surprising hit that they hope to build on with tonight’s premiere of “Sullivan & Son,” another old-fashioned laughfest built on cliches but with a confidence that gives it moments that work.

Actress Valerie Azlynn’s repertoire of supporting roles in both film and television is extremely impressive. All it can take is one night for tension and drama between friends, lovers and siblings to rise to the fore, and in the upcoming indie flick "Caroline and Jackie" making its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, it's one evening that changes things forever.
Marking the feature directorial debut of Adam Christian Clark, the film stars Marguerite Moreau (“Shameless”), Bitsie Tulloch (“Grimm”), David Giuntoli (“Grimm”), Valerie Azlynn, David Fuit, and Jason Gray-Stanford in the story that centers on Caroline (Moreau), who is on a celebratory birthday trip and decides visits her sister, Jackie (Tulloch) and her boyfriend (Giuntoli). But what starts out as a fun evening with close friends quickly goes askew, as the effects of the sisters’ obscure past begins to take its toll on the night’s affair. Caroline and the group attempt to support Jackie for an apparent illness – though it’s unclear who really needs the most help.

Julia X 3D begins innocently enough with beautiful blonde Julia on a date with the handsome guy she’s met online (known only as “The Stranger”). Before we know it, The Stranger chains Julia in his van and she’s forced to watch him dispose of his previous victim before bringing her to his warehouse lair. So begins a night-long descent into madness as Julia escapes and The Stranger chases her into the woods, through his isolated house, the swamp, and an abandoned school before the tables turn in an unexpected manner.
Kevin Sorbo is a menacing delight as The Stranger, the nutcase who’s been luring girls from online chatrooms to their certain doom all to the tune of The Carpenters’ “Close to You” on his iPod. As the film goes on, the song becomes a dark comical foreshadowing to the carnage that Sorbo’s character is about to inflict: we hear the song,...

With the Screamfest La Film Festival now under way through October 22nd at Manns Chinese 6 in Hollywood, California, we chatted recently with P.J. Pettiette, the director of one of the fest's selections, the 3D feature Julia X, and got the skinny on the horror-comedy flick, which is having its U.S. premiere this evening, October 16th.
Written by Matt Cunningham and produced by Greg Hall, Claude Viguerie and the film’s director Pettiette, Julia X 3D stars Valerie Azlynn, Kevin Sorbo, Alicia Leigh Willis, Joel Moore, and Ving Rhames and follows, "’Julia’ (Azlynn) who meets a man on her third Internet date. The filmmakers behind the black comedy Julia X 3D hosted a press meet-and-greet event at the Highball yesterday as part of Fantastic Fest 2011. Producer and writer P. J. Pettiette (Bad Dreams, Jennifer's Shadow) made his directorial debut at Fantastic Fest 2011 with this film starring Kevin Sorbo (Andromeda, Hercules) and Valerie Azlynn. Co-producer Claudie Viguerie and director of photography Jason Goodman were also on hand to answer questions about Julia X 3D, which debuted in the Sunday night midnight screening and runs again today at 12:15 pm.
Due to a health emergency, lead actor Kevin Sorbo was unable to attend in person but participated via Skype as seen above. Sorbo attributed his visit to the emergency room Sunday night to too much work and travel, but is expected to be well enough to arrive in time for today's screening. Kevin Sorbo played the title character in 111 episodes of the syndicated TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, ending his run in 1999. Perhaps he still feels typecast as a heroic figure, and so that prompted him to accept the lead role in Julia X 3D, in which he plays a serial killer known only as The Stranger. The movie is meant to play as a dark comedy, at least according to director P.J. Pettiette, who introduced the film for its Fantastic Fest premiere at the Alamo Drafthouse. Some members of the late-night audience took Pettiette at his word, laughing when The Stranger punched Julia (Valerie Azlynn) in the face, just before tuning into The Carpenters for inspiration on his earphones while shaving and humming along to the mellow soft-rock song...

Chicago – Jane Seymour is a memorable beauty, and has found success in virtually all areas of the media. After breaking through with films such as “Live and Let Die” and “Somewhere in Time,” she was “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” for six seasons on TV. She returns with “Perfectly Prudence” on the Hallmark channel.
The television movie marks the second time Seymour has played Prudence McCoy, a British version of Martha Stewart. In this go around, new producers come in to remake Prudence’s show. One of the producers is played by Joe Lando, notable because he was Seymour’s Dr Quinn co-star throughout the series. Their on-screen chemistry is revived, and the complications of re-tooling Prudence gives this adventure a comic touch.

The other day I sat down and watched an indie that came and went without much buzz a handful of years ago -- 2006's I'm Reed Fish. The film starred Jay Baruchel -- after the likes of Undeclared, but before the likes of Knocked Up and Tropic Thunder -- as the radio voice of the people for a small town called Mud Meadows. Trying to exist under the heavy arm of his dead father's shadow, Reed has it rough, being romantically linked (either in real life or his own art) with the following beauties: Alexis Bledel, Schuyler Fisk, Shiri Appleby, and Valerie Azlynn. Additionally, one of his only friends is played by DJ Qualls (the weird guy from Road Trip), who is engaged to A.J. Cook (Mary Lisbon from The Virgin Suicides) in the film. Another apt title for the comedy would have been: How Awkward Geeks Get the Hotties.

Take a look at the second trailer for the Bruce Willis sci-fi actioner “Surrogates”. There isn’t a whole lot of buzz about the movie as it chugs toward its September 25th release date, which is probably not something the studio wants to hear. Here’s the second trailer, maybe it’ll change your mind. Or not. People are living their lives remotely from the safety of their own homes via robotic surrogates — sexy, physically perfect mechanical representations of themselves. It’s an ideal world where crime, pain, fear and consequences don’t exist. When the first murder in years jolts this utopia, FBI agent Greer (Willis) discovers a vast conspiracy behind the surrogate phenomenon and must abandon his own surrogate, risking his life to unravel the mystery. Starring Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell, Rosamund Pike, Ving Rhames, James Cromwell, Michael Cudlitz, Meta Golding, Helena Mattsson, Trevor Donovan, Valerie Azlynn, and directed by Johnathon Mostow.

You gotta admit, when Bruce Willis shows up in these new “Surrogates” pics with that blonde hair of his, the dude just looks … Different. Maybe I’m just used to seeing ol Willy bald and goateed up, but wow, it really does sell the film’s whole “get younger, buy a Surrogate” plot. Anyways, new pics from the movie “Surrogates” via Yahoo! Movies. Set in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots, a cop (Willis) is forced to leave his home for the first time in years in order to investigate the murders of others’ surrogates. Here are some new images from Jonathan Mostow’s new sci-fi actioner “Surrogates” for ya. Don’t ignore this movie, folks, Jonathan Mostow is a damn fine action director (I still think his “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” is very underrated) and anything with Willis carrying a gun and running around trying to save the world has always been worthy of an admissions ticket. Plus, it’s got Radha Mitchell, who is always good in sci-fi stuff, and of course, Rosamund Pike is easy on the eyes. Wanna get rid of those love handles without actually, you know, going to the gym? Don’t worry, because in the future you can use a surrogate that will go out to parties and even do your job while you lay down in the comfort of your apartment in your boxers. That’s the premise of Bruce Willis’ new sci-fi actioner, “Surrogates”, which has the film’s idyllic world shaken and stirred when people starts offing surrogates and the people using them. A spiffy new (and I have to say, very Battlestar Galactica-esque) poster for Bruce Willis’ sci-fi actioner “Surrogates”. There’s also an equally spiffy viral site for the film via Virtual Self Industries. Looking at the faux site, it reminds me that movie studios just have way too much money on their hands that they can throw up these kinds of flashy and expensive “most people won’t even know it exists” sites and not think twice about it. And people wonder why Hollywood movies cost millions to make. But I digress.
