- Composer
Danae Bletsa is a music composer, opera singer (lyrical soprano) and actress of Greek origin.
As a composer she is interested in opera, music theatre, music for film and transdisciplinary projects. She is experimenting with new opera formats, rearranging the parameters of speech, music and action in a new imaginative context. She has composed the operas "Semèle" for Yo-Opera Festival (Neuköllner Oper Berlin and Utrechtse Stadsschouwburg) and "One legatura to be plucked" for Amsterdam Composers' Festival, for a combined ensemble of baroque and modern instruments. Her music theatre piece "Anème" was premiered in Orgelpark Amsterdam for a mixed cast of classical and jazz singers and three church organs. She has also worked for the Alternative Stage of the National Opera of Greece, composing "Vocalise on Mantras" for soprano and electronics (production: "Mantras") and "A suite for cotophones" for dancers and motion-responsive sound speakers (technology by Coti K., production: "Synthesis"). Other collaborations of hers include Megaron-Athens Concert Hall, Senate House London, the First Biennale of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki, Nieuw Ensemble and Atlas Ensemble Amsterdam.
Danae's versatility as an opera singer qualifies her for performing both classical repertoire but also contemporary scores that are composed for her in world premiere. She has performed and directed the sold-out world premiere of the opera "Mantras'' by Belgian composer Wim Henderickx in Operadagen Rotterdam in 2017, followed by its national premiere at the Alternative Stage of the National Opera of Greece in 2018. She has further performed opera roles and recitals at the Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Onassis Foundation-Athens, Senate House London, Vienna International Opera Academy (VIOA), Salle de la Bourse-Haute école de musique de Genève (HEM) and Witte Zaal-Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen.
Danae composed music for the film "Asterion Market" by Evi Minou, where she also performed the role of "Minos King".
