“The Girls on the Bus” are not going round and round. Variety has learned that Max has canceled the political drama after just one season.
“While Max will not be moving forward with a second season of ‘The Girls on the Bus,’ we are grateful to have partnered with immensely talented Amy Chozick, Julie Plec, Rina Mimoun, as well as the teams at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television,” Max said in a statement. “We are so proud of this powerful story of found family and the celebration of journalism, in all its forms. We thank them and our unrivaled cast for all their incredible work and collaboration.”
Thus ends the show’s long road to the screen. It was originally set up at Netflix with a series order in 2019, but was dropped by that streamer reportedly after production was pushed back because of the pandemic. It then moved to...

“And I would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids.” This is undoubtedly one of the most famous lines in the history of animated television and practically everyone will recognize it as the most famous phrase from the Scooby-Doo series. The phrase usually signified the end of a case when Scooby and the gang would explain the solution and prove that the guy they caught in the costume red-handed did it. The villain would then utter these words, cursing his ill-fated encounter with Mystery Inc., without which his plan would have succeeded, as it was otherwise perfect.
While the Scooby-Doo series is primarily an animated work, there have been live-action and CGI adaptations of the series as well. And while the CGI Scoob! movie was better received than the live-action movies, no adaptation has managed to come even close to the charm of the original animated series,...

Despite receiving mixed-to-negative reviews, the live-action Scooby-Doo movies remain beloved among fans of the Mystery Inc. gang. A threequel appears to be off the table, but Variety (via Toonado.com) is reporting that a new live-action TV series is in the works and heading to Netflix.
No plot details have been revealed, but the one-hour drama project is nearing a deal at the streamer with a script-to-series commitment. Based on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the same name, Warner Bros. Television is producing the project with Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bepop) serving as writers and executive producers.
André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner will also executive produce under their Midnight Radio banner, while Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman will take on the same role through Berlanti Productions.

Fire up the mystery van because Netflix is about to close a deal for a live-action TV series based on the Hanna-Barbera animated series Scooby-Doo.

Today, Netflix debuted the official trailer for Dead Boy Detectives, premiering globally on Netflix on Thursday, April 25.
The eclectic composition of characters, based on the beloved comics by Neil Gaiman and brought to life by co-showrunners Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz, provides the series with fun, whimsy, humor, and fantastical horror that all come together in perfectly imperfect harmony.
Try not to fall in love with the dead boy detectives and their crew in this trailer as they solve mystifying paranormal cases to the tune of a wonderfully nostalgic rendition of My Chemical Romance’s anthemic ode to the afterlife, “Welcome to the Black Parade.”
Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives.

Anna Camp and Griffin Matthews have been cast in “You” Season 5 at Netflix as series regulars, Variety has learned exclusively.
The pair are the latest additions to the cast of the popular show’s fifth season, which will also be its final season. It was previously announced that Madeline Brewer would also appear in a series regular role.
Camp will play both Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, twin sisters-in-law to Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). The characters are described as follows: “Raegan is the cunning, cutthroat CFO of the Lockwood Corp who has her eyes on the throne and will crush any adversary…be them family or not. Matthews will play Teddy Lockwood, described as the “snarky yet loyal brother-in-law of Joe Goldberg.

“The Girls on the Bus,” Max’s long-in-the-works journalism dramedy series from the producers of “The Flight Attendant,” finally has a trailer.
The series follows four women as they work as embedded political reporters on a presidential campaign trail. There’s idealistic Sadie McCarthy (Melissa Benoist), who works for a respectable newspaper; Grace (Carla Gugino), a veteran reporter whose hard-nosed style gets scoops and makes enemies; Kimberlyn (Christina Elmore), a Black conservative who works for a right-wing news channel; and Lola (Natasha Benham), who thinks traditional journalism is ancient and social media is where it’s at. Though they’re all very competitive and different from each other, they develop a close bond as they work within the pressure cooker environment of the campaign trail.

Though they’re all very competitive and different from each other, they develop a close bond as they work within the pressure cooker environment of the campaign trail.
The cast also includes Scott Foley, Brandon Scott, Griffin Dunne, and Mark Consuelos.

There’s no fear and loathing on the campaign trail here for Max’s female journalist-led comedy “The Girls on the Bus.” The series, which is executive produced by the team behind “The Flight Attendant,” follows four political reporters along the (fictional) campaign trail as friendship, love, and yes, even a government conspiracy, complicate their lives.
The official synopsis reads: “‘The Girls on the Bus’ invites viewers to hit the campaign trail alongside four female journalists, each of them different in their reporting styles and personalities. The story centers on Sadie McCarthy (Melissa Benoist), a journalist who romanticizes a bygone era of campaign reporting and scraps her whole life for a shot at covering a presidential candidate for a paper of record. Sadie joins the bus and eventually bonds with three female competitors, Grace (Carla Gugino), Lola (Natasha Behnam), and Kimberlyn (Christina Elmore). Despite their differences, the women become a...

NBC is sticking with Found and The Irrational.
The network has renewed both first-year dramas — one of just a handful of original scripted series to air on a broadcast network this fall — for second seasons. Both shows were developed off-cycle at NBC and thus had a full complement of episodes in the can before strikes by writers and actors led to dozens of productions shutting down in the summer and early fall.
The two series have also performed solidly for NBC: The Irrational, starring Jesse L. Martin, is averaging 6.34 million viewers per episode after seven days of linear viewing, while the Shanola Hampton-led Found clocks in at 5.18 million viewers (not including streaming for either show). They are also the top two broadcast series of the season so far among Black viewers, with Found ranking first.

NBC is making some early renewals.
The network has renewed both of its first-year drama series, Found and The Irrational for second seasons.
The fact that both shows had episodes filmed prior to the start of the broadcast season was a boon for NBC, allowing it to air new scripted series as many of its rivals pivoted to reality series and licensed programming as a result of the dual strikes.
The Irrational has aired seven episodes of its first season and has four more to go starting on Monday January 29 at 10pm. It is currently back in production on those episodes.
Found has currently aired nine episodes with two more to air before the end of the year. It will return on January 9 for its final two episodes of the season and has already finished production on those.

DC Comics drama “Dead Boy Detectives” has officially moved from Max to Netflix, and Netflix unveiled the first official teaser for the series.
In a first look at the Greg Berlanti-produced series, George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri star as dead teenagers Edwin Payne and Charles Rowlan. Not only are Edwin and Charles best friends who met following their deaths, they are also business partners running the Dead Boy Detective Agency.
“We are the Dead Boy Detective Agency — he’s the brains and I’m the brawn,” Revri’s Charles says in the teaser, referring to Edwin. “We’re ghosts and we solve mysteries.”
“We’re pretty bang-on detectives, when we’re not hiding from death,” one of the detectives adds.

Netflix has offered up the first peeks at its upcoming Dead Boy Detectives series.
The show, based on the Vertigo comics by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, stars George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri as Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, best friends — and ghosts — who help solve paranormal cases in the mortal realm.
At Netflix, Dead Boy Detectives will be part of the Sandman universe (the characters were introduced in Gaiman’s Sandman comics in the early 1990s) — but the series took a winding road to get there. It was initially developed for Max as part of the streamer’s former plans for its DC Universe, with Edwin and Charles making an appearance (although played by different actors) in season three of Doom Patrol.
Max (then HBO Max) ordered it to series in April 2022, but after Warner Bros. Discovery decided to reset the DC universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran,...

The “Dead Boy Detectives” series is officially set to air on Netflix after originally being set up at Max.
The show, based on characters created for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, was originally ordered to series at Max back in April 2022. However, it was reported earlier this year that it would be moving to Netflix due to the fact it did not fit the new direction for Max-DC content being spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The official description for the eight-episode series states, “Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives. From writer/executive producer Michael Grassi, Wolf is inspired by the books The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars by Oliver Sacks. It follows a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist, Dr. Oliver Wolf (Quinto), and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
Sears will play Dr. Josh Nichols, a neurosurgeon who left a private practice in San Francisco to work at Bronx General. Josh is clinical, exacting and relies on technology to treat his patients — the opposite of Wolf. The two will go toe-to-toe and develop a competitive relationship full of tension.

Veronica Cartwright is set to guest star in The CW‘s upcoming series Gotham Knights.
Cartwright will play Eunice Harmon. She will make her debut in Episode 4 and recur in Episode 7.
According to her character description, at first glance, Eunice Harmon may seem every bit the sweet old lady living out her twilight years in a nursing home. But that grandmotherly exterior masks a much darker side, one that harbors sinister secrets and has ties to an evil that has plagued Gotham for over a century.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Veronica as a part of Gotham Knights. A veteran of some of the most frightening movies ever made – Alien, 1978’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Hitchcock’s The Birds – Veronica brings to the role of Eunice Harmon a uniquely chilling sense of danger in an otherwise unassuming package. The character of Eunice was originally supposed to be a one-off,...

The CW’s Gotham Knights has cast a pair of key recurring roles, with Ethan Embry and Sunny Mabrey joining the DC Comics drama.
The real-life married couple will play husband and wife on the series as well, with Mabrey debuting as Crystal Brown in the show’s fifth episode and Embry first appearing in episode six as Arthur Brown. In the comics, Arthur Brown is the alter ego of Batman villain Cluemaster.
“We were blown away by Sunny’s audition for Gotham Knights. It was immediately clear she had the expansive emotional range needed to play this deeply polarizing character,” series creators Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams said in a statement. “And then we were delighted to discover that Sunny’s husband is an actor who has many fans among our cast, crew and writers. Ethan’s brought Arthur to life in such rich, delightfully disturbing ways.

Once Upon a Time stars Ethan Embry and Sunny Mabrey are set to recur in Season 1 of The CW‘s upcoming series Gotham Knights.
Mabrey will make her first appearance in Episode 5 as Crystal Brown. Elegant and eye-catching, as the wife of a local celebrity, Crystal exudes a natural, camera-ready charisma. However, to those closest to her, Crystal runs warm as sunshine one minute, and brutally ice cold the next, because she’s battling a secret addiction that could ruin the lives of her entire family.
Embry will debut in Episode 6 as Arthur Brown. The meticulous and eccentric host of a Jeopardy-like game show, Arthur is always the smartest person in the room — and he knows it. On the surface, he’s charming and perfectly coiffed, with high expectations for his daughter, the only person who comes close to matching his intellect. But a dark side lurks beneath the surface,...
