Emmy-winning talk show host Daphne Oz is back on the judging panel for Season 9 of “MasterChef Junior.” She joins chefs Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sánchez and, for the first time ever, Gordon’s daughter Tilly Ramsay. Watch her exclusive interview above, where Daphne dishes on her favorite moments from the show, her own family history with cooking, and what junk food her father, Dr. Mehmet Oz, is willing to indulge in.
“It is one of the best shows to watch if you love food and you love competition,” Daphne declares. “I love watching ‘MasterChef Junior’ with my kids because I think that they get very inspired, frankly, by other kids, their age, who are fearless in the kitchen, who are cooking with crazy ingredients. It makes the idea of them getting in the kitchen and making their own snack or helping me make dinner that much more enticing.”

According to a study conducted by French researchers, an estimated 17,000 people worldwide may have died due to the use of hydroxychloroquine.
Hydroxychloroquine is an anti-malaria drug prescribed to some patients during the initial wave of Covid-19. It gained attention because it was promoted as a potential treatment for Covid-19, and its use was encouraged by French virologist Didier Raoult.
Raoult was head of the Méditerranée Infection Foundation hospital but was later removed due to the drug controversy.
Former President Donald Trump endorsed the drug, calling it a “miracle cure” and encouraging people to buy it, saying, “What do you have to lose? Take it.”
Trump ally Dr. Mehmet Oz also pushed the drug on his TV show.
The drug was initially prescribed to some patients “despite the absence of evidence documenting its clinical benefits,” according to researchers who published in the February issue of Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) openly admitted he engaged in “dark conversations” with himself about self-harm before he hit “the emergency brake” and sought treatment for his battle with depression.
Fetterman, who is in his first term, spoke candidly about his experiences in an introspective interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, which was recorded prior to its broadcast on Sunday.
In February 2023, he admitted himself to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, as he felt he had nowhere else to turn.
Fetterman expressed doubts about his political future, especially when news of his treatment and whereabouts became public.
He feared that this revelation could mark the end of his career. At the time he sought treatment for clinical depression, Fetterman was also contending with the aftermath of a stroke he had suffered in May 2022 while he campaigned for one of the Senate’s highly contested seats.

I’ll take Jeopardy! hosts that didn’t make the cut, Ken… Mayim Bialik, who shared hosting duties of the iconic answer-and-question game show since 2021, is officially out, leaving Ken Jennings as the sole host.
In an Instagram post over the weekend, Mayim Bialik announced, “As the holiday break begins in Hollywood, I have some Jeopardy! news. Sony has informed me that I will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy!.” She noted that she continues to be grateful for being nominated for the inaugural Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Game Show – with Jennings also competing, no less. She also thanked those who continued to champion her pursuing such a coveted gig. “For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America’s Favorite Quiz Show, thank you.”

Moms for Liberty is a conservative parental rights group that has chapters all over the United States working to eradicate LGBTQ-related discussion in public schools, at least partially under the belief that educators are using it to “groom” children for sexual relationships. The group might want to look inward first. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Monday that Phillip Fisher Jr. — a pastor, Republican ward leader, and faith coordinator for Moms for Liberty in Philadelphia — is a registered sex offender.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) made a swipe at his 2022 campaign rival Mehmet Oz on Halloween night.
He tweeted a picture of a veggie tray with the caption, “Wild and crazy evening in with… crudités” and a pained emoji face.
Oz, a celebrity doctor endorsed by Donald Trump in the race, has been the subject of much mockery for his comments about “crudité” in April of last year.
In a video that attacked President Joe Biden over inflation, Oz made his way around a grocery store and claimed he wanted “vegetables for crudité.”
Aside from his pretentious phrasing for the appetizer more commonly known as veggies and dip, Oz got the name of the grocery store wrong when he said he was in “Wegner’s,” a combination of the names of two Pennsylvania chains, Wegman’s and Redner’s.
Oz famously lived all his life in New Jersey before relocating to...

Oprah Winfrey has disputed the claim made by Sen. Mitt Romney in an upcoming biography that she floated the idea of a joint presidential ticket in order “to save the country” from a Trump reelection.

Oprah Winfrey Disputes Mitt Romney’s Claim That She Asked to Join Him on a Unity Presidential Ticket
Oprah Winfrey is pushing back on a claim made by Sen. Mitt Romney in a new biography.
A spokesperson for Winfrey tells The Hollywood Reporter that, despite a claim in a new book, Winfrey was never considering a run for president in 2020 and did not ask Romney to join her on a ticket.
“In November 2019, Ms. Winfrey called Senator Romney to encourage him to run on an Independent ticket,” the spokesperson says. “She was not calling to be part of the ticket and was never considering running herself.”
In the upcoming book Romney: A Reckoning, by veteran political journalist McKay Coppins, Utah Republican Romney recalls receiving a call from the media mogul, who is a Democrat, claiming that they should form a unity ticket “to save the country.”
Axios first reported on the excerpt from the book Monday.

The 2023-24 television season started without several of the most prominent daytime talk shows: the syndicated The Drew Barrymore Show, The Jennifer Hudson Show and The Kelly Clarkson Show and CBS’ The Talk. They are now expected to return for new seasons by the second week of October.
The Kelly Clarkson Show‘s delay was attributed to the program moving from Los Angeles to New York, which required the building of a new set. Meanwhile, The Drew Barrymore Show, The Jennifer Hudson Show and The Talk postponed their September 18 season premieres amid backlash and picketing by the WGA as the three programs, along with The Kelly Clarkson Show, are guild signatories.

At least one Republican senator has serious doubts about Donald Trump’s chances to win in 2024. Sen. Bill Cassidy said that he believes the former president “cannot win a general election.”
“During the last election cycle, we saw in all the swing states, almost all — Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona — that the candidates for Senate that Trump endorsed all lost,” Cassidy said on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday. “If you had taken the votes that went to other Republicans and put them together, those Republicans would have won.

This post contains spoilers for "Succession" season 4, episode 8.
At the end of the latest episode of "Succession," as a neo-Nazi president-elect gives a victory speech rife with terms like "proud and pure" and parts of the world quite literally burn around them, the Roy siblings sit together. They're alternately uneasy, devastated, and relaxed.
"We've just made a night of good TV," Roman (Kieran Culkin), the relaxed one, says. "That's what we've done. Nothing happens." Shiv responds with a voice that sounds like barely-dried tears and resignation. Though she only says one sentence, it's cutting, and some of Sarah Snook's finest work on the show to date: "Things do happen, Rome."
The "thing" in question here is the Roy family's clumsy yet horrifying election night sabotage, which starts with them calling a state for the (extremely far right) Republican nominee Mencken (Justin Kirk) despite the fact that an unknown...

Friday’s episode of “Morning Joe” took a somber turn thanks to a snippet of Joe Scarborough’s upcoming interview with Senator John Fetterman. Holding back tears, Fetterman opened up about his recent struggles with depression and emphasized that this was not a partisan issue.
“This isn’t about who’s tough or who’s not,” Senator Fetterman said. “I would just beg men, you’re not too macho. It’s no big deal. The only person you’re really going to hurt more than anyone else is actually your family.”
In mid-February, Senator Fetterman sought treatment for his clinical depression, mere weeks after he won the U.S. Senate election. The Pennsylvania politician said that even though he won, it felt like he had lost.
“That’s what’s so insidious about depression,” Fetterman said. “I laid there and watched this hurt my own children because they were confused...

Sen. John Fetterman (D-pa), who won one of last year’s most contested Senate races, has checked himself into a hospital for treatment of clinical depression.
His chief of staff, Adam Jentleson, said in a statement that Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Wednesday evening. “While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks,” Jentleson said.
He said that Fetterman was evaluated by Brian Monahan, the attending physician of Congress, who recommended inpatient care.
“After examining John, the doctors of Walter Reed told us that John is getting the care he needs, and will soon be back to himself,” Jentleson said.

Kevin McCarthy is having a rough go of it in his quest to become speaker of the House of Representatives. He didn’t come anywhere close to getting the votes he needed on the first or second ballots cast on Tuesday, and drifted even further away from the gavel on the third. McCarthy is desperate for help, which is why it was a little curious that Donald Trump, who has endorsed McCarthy for the role, didn’t try to rally support publicly as his top lackey in the House took L after L.

Donald Trump, who has recently announced that he filed to run for President in 2024, is facing some mudslinging from supporters of his likely GOP opponent Ron DeSantis, whom he called “average” last week.
While Trump was the star of the GOP for many years, he doesn’t seem to have the same degree of fervent enthusiasm he built behind himself by the end of his 2016 campaign, but it’s still early.

Former President Donald Trump announced Tuesday night from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida that he’s running for president a third time. Trump announced his 2024 bid moments after filing a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission.
“In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump said, to cheers from his supporters.
As he entered the room along with former first lady Melania Trump, the twice-impeached former president was introduced as the “next president” of the United States, teasing his announcement.
“Two years ago, we were a great nation, and soon, we will be a great nation again,” Trump told his supporters in a speech that was more subdued than many of his rallies around the country.

Donald Trump said that he is running for president in 2024, seeking to return to the White House amid warning signs that he’s losing support among key Republicans and perhaps even the right wing media machine.
“In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump told a crowd gathered at Mar-a-Lago.
Trump’s announcement had long been anticipated, as he had teased it in interviews and at campaign rallies.
His hour-plus speech was heavy in attacks on President Joe Biden, including personal barbs about him being out of touch, as well as “radical left Democrats.”
While he tackled issues like immigration and crime, Trump also pledged to dismantle the “deep state” and “the swamp” of D.C., using rhetoric heard throughout his presidency. He made a reference to “cheating” in elections, but did not dwell on his claims...

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-nv) was projected to win reelection over Adam Laxalt in Nevada’s U.S. Senate race, assuring Democratic control of the Senate.
The latest vote tallies were enough for networks to call the race for Cortez Masto, who trailed until final mail-in ballots were counted in more populous counties like Clark and Washoe.
Coupled with the reelection of Sen. Mark Kelly (D-az) in the Arizona Senate race, Cortez Masto’s razor-thin victory gives Democrats a sense of relief, assuring that they will have at least 50 seats. Had they lost the race, it would have meant that the December 6 runoff in Georgia between Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-ga) and Republican Herschel Walker would have determined who controls the chamber. Now, if Democrats lose that seat, they will still have control of the 50-50 Senate, as Vice President Kamala Harris will break any tie vote.

The White House was said to be “giddy and gleeful” in the wake of Election Night’s surprisingly strong showing by Democrats. But the administration has nothing on the mood of Bill Maher, as exhibited on Friday’s Real Time.
A week after a downbeat Maher was ready to throw shovels of dirt on America while anticipating its demise at Republican hands, the comedian returned in a jubliant mood. “I haven’t had a text from Joe Biden in three days,” he said in his warmup. “I feel like he’s ghosted me.”
Maher seemed amazed at the turn in fortunes, noting that Pennsylvania may have been the biggest surprise. That’s the state where the polished Dr. Mehmet Oz “lost to a guy who dresses like the airline lost his luggage.”
Noting that ex-President Donald Trump is suffering a backlash, with many now touting the 2024 prospects of Florida Gov.

Stephen Colbert celebrated the absence of the “Red Wave” Republicans had predicted for the 2022 midterm elections with some laundry wordplay.
On Thursday’s show, “The Late Show” host rattled off the latest headlines on the topic, such as “The Red Wave Was More Like a Pink Splash.”
“It was a salmon drizzle, a rosy wash,” Colbert said. “It’s like what happens when you accidentally wash your Klan robes with your Maga hat.”

Colbert went on to recap the GOP’s reactions to the lack of a major sweep, including finger-pointing at Trump and some of his high-profile supporters. He read a report that the former president was “furious” at those who advised him to back Dr. Mehmet Oz, who lost to John Fetterman in the Pennsylvania senate race.

Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday morning to declare that he is absolutely not mad about the midterms. Do not believe the fake news media, he is a very stable genius who is not — we repeat, Not— mad.
“For those many people that are being fed the fake narrative from the corrupt media that I am Angry about the Midterms, don’t believe it,” Trump wrote. “I am not at all angry, did a great job (I wasn’t the one running!), and am very busy looking into the future.

It was supposed to be a red wave that former President Donald Trump could triumphantly ride to the Republican nomination as he prepares to launch another White House run.
Instead, Tuesday night’s disappointing results for the GOP are raising new questions about Trump’s appeal and the future of a party that has fully embraced him, seemingly at its peril, while at the same time giving new momentum to his most potent potential rival.
Indeed, some allies were calling on Trump to delay his planned announcement next week, saying the party’s full focus needs to be on Georgia, where Trump-backed football great Herschel Walker’s effort to unseat Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock is headed to a runoff that could determine control of the Senate once again.

The Republican Party “shit the bed so bad” on Tuesday night.
That’s how one longtime GOP strategist who worked on several high-profile 2022 races put it just hours after midnight. The operative wasn’t alone in his misery: A total of 16 Republican strategists, grassroots activists, Donald Trump confidants, and elected officials began venting to Rolling Stone Tuesday night (some completely unprompted) about the party’s disappointment midterm results. The general sentiment: The GOP had historically botched the midterms, had good reason to panic, and should feel humiliated.

Update [5:12 pm Et]: Story now has final Nielsen numbers:
We’re still waiting on a whole bunch of midterm results, but we know who won Election Night in TV ratings. Tuesday was a Red Wave (of sorts) for the conservative-leaning Fox News Channel, which also claimed first place outright in 2020 and 2018.
Fox News drew an average of 7.42 million total viewers last night across primetime (8 p.m. to 11 p.m.), according to final Nielsen numbers, more than doubling its closest competitor, ABC (a rounded 3.31 million). MSNBC was third (3.21 million) and NBC proper (3.11 million) was fourth. CNN was a distant fifth place with 2.61 million total viewers; CBS brought up the rear with 2.56 million.
In the main news demo of adults 25-54, Fox News Channel was again No. 1, averaging a rounded 1.88. CNN attracted enough viewers in that age range (1.059 million) to rank second, coming in a mere 1,000 viewers ahead of third-place NBC. In fourth was ABC,...

It’s déjà vu in the Peach State.
Just like in 2021, the Georgia Senate race is headed for a runoff that could decide who controls the upper chamber.
With neither incumbent Raphael Warnock nor Republican challenger Herschel Walker topping 50 of the vote in the state, the duo will face off again December 6. The runoff is a result of Georgia state law that demands a winning candidate garner more than 50 of the vote. Presently, Warnock has pulled in 49.4 to Walker’s 48.5 with 96 of the vote tallied, according to the AP.
After a long night Tuesday of counting votes in the increasingly purple state, CNN, NBC and various networks and outlets this morning projected an inevitable runoff.
Gabriel Sterling, COO of the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, told CNN on Wednesday morning “the clock’s already up in our office, we’re 27 days and six hours away from polls closing on the runoff election day.

Update, 8:28 Am: Sen. Ron Johnson (R-wi) was projected to defeat Mandela Barnes to win reelection, according to CNN and other networks.
That raises the prospects that control of the U.S. Senate may come down to a runoff race in Georgia, where Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-ga) leads Republican Herschel Walker, but may fall short of the 50 threshold to win outright.
In the two other outstanding Senate races, Sen. Mark Kelly (D-az) leads in his reelection bid against Republican Blake Masters, but Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-nv) trails Republican Adam Laxalt. If those hold, Democrats would need the Georgia seat to tie the Senate 50-50, which is the way things stand now.
Johnson’s victory is a significant defeat for Democrats, who viewed him as one of the GOP’s most vulnerable incumbents. But Johnson hammered Barnes on the issue of crime during the general election campaign, cutting into his polling lead.

Jimmy Kimmel, recently announced as host of the 2023 Oscars, fired off some jokes at the expense of nationally recognized political figures during his election night special on Tuesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Razor-thin margins around the country left control of Congress undetermined Wednesday, but Democrats showed surprising strength in the midterm election, topping Republicans in a series of competitive races and defying expectations that high inflation and President Joe Biden’s low approval ratings would drag his party to key defeats.
In the most heartening news for Democrats, John Fetterman flipped Pennsylvania’s Republican-controlled Senate seat that’s key to the party’s hopes of maintaining control of the chamber. But Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin won reelection, raising the stakes of races in Nevada, Georgia and Arizona that were too early to call but could determine the majority.
In the House, Democrats kept seats in districts from Virginia to Kansas to Rhode Island, while many districts in states like New York and California had not been called.

When John Fetterman won the Democratic primary for Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate seat, he succeeded, it seemed, on vibes. The Democrat had an advanced degree from Harvard, but didn’t mention it. He had been in public office for nearly two decades, but didn’t act like it. It was hard to picture his hulking frame and American Chopper aesthetic on the floor of the U.S. Senate. That’s exactly why Pennsyvalnia Democrats — and, they hoped, a majority of their fellow voters come November — thought he belonged there.

John Fetterman was projected to defeat Republican celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz in the race for a U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania, in what cycle’s most expensive and most closely watched midterm contest.
NBC News was the first to project Fetterman’s victory at 9:52 Pm Pt, followed by Fox News and then CNN. Fetterman’s victory flips a Senate seat to Democrats, boosting their chances of maintaining control of the chamber.
“I’m not really sure what to say right now,” Fetterman told supporters. “My goodness. I am so humbled. Thank you so much.”
Almost 375 million was spent on the Senate race this cycle, dwarfing other contests, as the rivalry garnered national attention. CNN’s Dana Bash went so far as to call it a “proxy battle between Biden and Trump,” as they each campaigned multiple times in the state with Fetterman and Oz, respectively.

Frequently described as one of the most consequential midterms in recent history, this year’s elections have seen many in the industry spending time on the ground and on social media highlighting key issues on the ballot at the national, state and local levels: Everything from abortion access and climate change to voting rights and more.
As a result, Hollywood’s politically engaged stars are teaming with organizations and voting-focused nonprofits — and in some cases, delivering their own endorsements — to help encourage people to vote.

For the episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” that aired the night before the 2022 midterm elections, Colbert kicked things off with a cold open that reimagined Christmas carols as songs about the election — well, more specifically, about the Republican Party generally and several Republican candidates specifically.
As always, the gag kicked off with a supercut of news reports explaining the situation, then came the gag itself, a commercial for a compilation album called “A Very Midterms.”
First, we got a parody of “Have Yourself a Very Merry Christmas,” called “Have Yourself a Gerrymandered District.”
Next was “I’m Dreaming of a White Turnout,” which was of course a parody of “White Christmas” and references, well, you get it.

Showbiz figures headlined online town halls, fund-raising appeals and campaign endorsements in the final effort before Tuesday’s midterm elections.
Midterm trends favor the party out of power, and polls suggest that Republicans may make substantial gains, particularly in winning control of the House.
But the difficult environment for Democrats did not depress fundraising this cycle. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, showbiz sources have donated almost 57 million to federal campaigns and committees, exceeding the level donated in the last midterm, 2018. Democrats drew 87 of the contributions and Republicans collected 13, more lopsided than any other midterm election since Crp has collected records.
The top candidate recipient of showbiz money was Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-ga), drawing about 1.2 million in contributions from entertainment sources in his effort to retain his seat against Republican Herschel Walker. The top donor was producer Ted Snowdon, who has donated more than 3 million to candidates and committees.

Oprah Winfrey refused to endorse Dr. Mehmet Oz in the Pennsylvania Senate race and instead said she supported Democratic nominee John Fetterman.
Winfrey helped launch Oz’s talk show after he appeared numerous times on her program.
Winfrey named several important midterm elections during a virtual event to encourage her fans to vote this past Thursday. She reportedly said, “If I were in Pennsylvania, I would have already cast my vote for John Fetterman, for many reasons.”
She also rattled off several progressive politicians who are either running for Senate or seeking to protect their Senate seats in traditionally-Republican states.
“If I was in Florida, I’d be supporting Val Demings. If I was in Wisconsin, it would be Mandela Barnes, in Nevada, it would be Catherine Cortez Masto,” she said.
Winfrey also named gubernatorial candidates Beto O’Rourke, running in Texas, and Stacey Abrams who is running in Georgia.

Oxford, North Carolina — It’s a marvel Cheri Beasley made it here at all, to this drafty barn, off of a winding country road in rural North Carolina. Her handlers had the wrong address, the cell service was spotty, the two-lane road you take to get here was shut down in one direction for re-paving. But the campaign’s SUV rolled up the long gravel driveway, past pert rows of kale, just a couple minutes behind schedule. The former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court hopped out at...

Until now, Winfrey had said she would leave the election to Pennsylvanians, but she changed that position in an online discussion on voting in next Tuesday’s election.
“I said it was up to the citizens of Pennsylvania and of course, but I will tell you all this, if I lived in Pennsylvania, I would have already cast my vote for John Fetterman for many reasons,” Winfrey said, before going on to urge listeners to vote for Democrats running for governor and Senate in various states.
