Disney has just shared the new look at the sequel to the popular 2016 film starring Dwayne Johnson and Auli‘i Cravalho as their respective characters — Maui and Moana. In addition to the teaser trailer, Disney has also released a couple of teaser posters that sets the stage for a new adventure across the sea.

Earlier this month, a pretty wild rumour started doing the rounds online suggesting Marvel Studios wants Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to play Apocalypse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
An X-Men reboot - hopefully titled "Uncanny X-Men" - will be released after Avengers: Secret Wars, but is the pro wrestler turned Hollywood A-Lister a good fit for the MCU? It's no secret that he attempted to exert creative control over the DC Extended Universe after attempting to turn it into the "DJ Extended Universe" with Black Adam!
That won't fly with Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, but if The Rock is willing to play ball, then he could make for a suitably formidable En Sabah Nur in a future live-action X-Men movie.
In some new fan art, we get an idea of what he'll look like as the villainous Apocalypse and, honestly, it works. We still don't know how old the X-Men themselves will be,...

Word of a remake of John Carpenter's 1986 bonkers action flick "Big Trouble in Little China" came out as early as 2015. The remake was set to star Dwayne Johnson, presumably playing Jack Burton, the character previously played by Kurt Russell. Johnson reportedly wanted John Carpenter to be involved in the remake, but the director was never officially invited to anything. "I only know what I read in the papers," he said. Carpenter has been famously indifferent to other filmmakers remaking his movies, once saying that he loves it when it happens, as he gets paid for not having to do anything. Three years later, in 2018, it was announced that the new "Big Trouble" would be a sequel and not a remake, but such definitions have become hazy in a nostalgia-driven marketplace. The film's producer, Hiram Garcia, referred to the new film as a "continuation," rather than a sequel. Po-tay-to, po-tah-to.

Remember ‘Black Adam’ released in 2022? If you don’t it’s perfectly fine since the movie was a commercial flop and panned by critics. Its only redeeming quality is the fact that Dwayne The Rock Johnson played the character, seemingly born to bring it to live action.
One of the things however that you will most likely remember if you watched the movie at all is the post-credit scene that promises a bright future for both Johnson’s Black Adam and Cavill’s Superman.
Back when the movie flopped there were rumors going around that The Rock wanted to completely change the hierarchy of power within the DC, quite literally as he allegedly wanted to take over the studio and position his own production house to the top to handle all upcoming Dceu projects.

Did you catch ‘Black Adam’ in 2022? If not, no worries. Critics panned it, and it didn’t do well at the box office. But hey, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s performance as the lead was solid, right?
But what really sticks out, especially if you saw it, is the post-credit scene hinting at a crossover with Superman.
When ‘Black Adam’ tanked, rumors swirled that The Rock aimed to shake up DC, literally. Allegedly, he sought to snatch control of the studio, putting his own production company in charge of future Dceu projects.
The Wrap recently dropped an exclusive report on the saga. Apparently, The Rock and Cavill’s manager, Garcia, plotted to boot then-DC Studios head, Walter Hamada. But their scheme was thwarted by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who were brought in to salvage what they could of the Dceu.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the biggest names in Hollywood and an actor and entertainer who has a big fanbase and a lot of influence. Starting out as a WWE star, he soon transitioned to television and movies, becoming one of the most popular action stars in the world. Known, more or less, as a laid-back guy with an open mind, The Rock is quite popular, but it seems that he is not the most pleasant guy to work with and that his work ethic isn’t that commendable.
This new report comes from the set of the upcoming Red One movie, which is set to come out on November 15, 2024 and will be a Christmas action movie with Johnson in the main role. Alongside him, the movie will star Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, and Mary Elizabeth Ellis, as well as Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons in the role of Santa Claus.

Exclusive: The rise and fall of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) is to be explored in a new docuseries for Vice TV.
Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia, founders of Seven Bucks Productions, are exec producing Who Killed WCW?
WCW was founded by Ted Turner in 1988 after his Turner Broadcasting System acquired the assets of National Wrestling Alliance territory Jim Crockett Productions. It competed aggressively with the then-titled WWF (now WWE), regularly beating it in the ratings on Monday nights where its Monday Nitro outrated Monday Night Raw. However, it endured significant losses and suffered from the merger between Turner parent Tim Warner and AOL and was shut down in 2001.
The series, which premieres on June 4, will explore the complex factors that led to the promotion’s downfall, including management challenges, creative decisions, and the intense competition during the infamous Monday Night Wars. Theater owners have been treated to their first glimpse of Amazon MGM Studios’ year-end holiday romp Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans. While the studio didn’t give an official presentation at CinemaCon this week, it used the annual convention to show off 10 minutes of the comedy inside a spacious suite at Caesars Palace.
Those who saw the footage were asked to keep plot details under tight wraps, although its known that J.K. Simmons plays Santa and Bonnie Hunt plays Mrs. Claus.
Red One, from Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions, is set to hit theaters worldwide Nov. 15, 2024, in order to take full advantage of the long year-end holiday corridor (several cinema operators told The Hollywood Reporter the footage looks promising). The holiday action comedy is based on an original story from Hiram Garcia, president of production at Seven Bucks Productions. Jake Kasdan directed from a script by Chris Morgan.

Dwayne Johnson has cemented a strong legacy in Hollywood, after transitioning from his humble beginnings as a professional wrestler. He has been engaged in several blockbuster franchises, like Fast & Furious, Jumanji, and Black Adam.
However, unlike his Jumanji franchise, his other successful projects like the Journey franchise were unable to expand into sequels. After delivering two successful movies, the third installment appears to be taking too long to become real.

Before entering the DC franchise as Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson had many successful action films under his belt. The former WWE champion-turned-actor featured in films like San Andreas and Rampage apart from being a pivotal presence in The Fast and the Furious franchise. However, apart from this popular film series, The Rock’s other films have surprisingly not expanded into sequels.

Johnson’s producing partner Hiram Garcia attempted to explain the reasons behind this back in 2022. It appeared from Garcia’s revelations that The Scorpion King star’s commitment to DC and his character Black Adam could have been the deciding factor behind a film like Rampage not getting the greenlight for a sequel. As fate would have it, Johnson’s long-term desires for DC went up in smoke.

Dwayne Johnson starred in 2022’s Black Adam; a Dceu superhero movie based on the DC character of the same name. It was the eleventh movie in the Dceu and reportedly a spin-off to 2019’s Shazam! Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani, Black Adam was one of the highly anticipated movies of 2022.
Upon its release, the movie received negative reviews from the critics and the audience becoming a box office bomb for the studios. However, one significant appearance from a former Dceu cast member had the audience excited about the movie and had them looking forward to its further development before the sequel was canceled. Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia touched upon how the movie was not a standalone project but more than that.

Red One: Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson’s holiday action comedy to bring cheer to theaters next year
Next year’s holiday season is already looking merry and bright at the box office as Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ holiday action comedy, Red One, plans on riding a sleigh into cinemas. The Amazon MGM and Seven Bucks Christmas film is still spreading holiday cheer on Prime Video, but the project’s global theatrical debut happens on November 15, 2024.
Red One’s move to theaters is a strategy to take advantage of the holiday box office rush. Families love to bundle up the family for a trip to cinemas, and that Thanksgiving window is almost as tasty as a lovingly cooked butterball turkey. Other films will premiere in theaters around the holidays, but so far, Robert De Niro’s mobster film Alto Knights and Lionsgate and Kingdom Story’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever occupy the holiday stretch.

Exclusive, Updated: The latter half of the 2024 theatrical release schedule just got a shot of testosterone as Amazon MGM Studios and Seven Bucks’ epic Christmas action comedy Red One just set an exclusive global theatrical release for Nov. 15, 2024.

Rival wide releases on Nov. 15 include Warner Bros. Robert De Niro mobster movie, Alto Knights and Lionsgate and Kingdom Story’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Do you smell what Benny Safdie is cooking? It’s a collaboration with Dwayne Johnson for the A24 film The Smashing Machine. Johnson will play legendary Mma fighter Mark Kerr from the no-holds-barred era of UFC in the new project. A24 is thrilled to reteam with Safdie after the filmmaker’s 2019 cinematic stress test Uncut Gems, starring Adam Sandler as a crooked New York City jeweler in over his head.
In addition to his directorial duties, Safdie is co-writing the script, which focuses on Kerr’s struggle with addiction, victory, love, and friendship in the year 2000. Likely to veer into more severe territory, The Smashing Machine gives Johnson a rare opportunity to flex his drama muscles for cameras. While some could be confused about what that looks like, Safdie is known for bringing the best out of his film stars.
Kerr is an American former wrestler and mixed martial artist.

Do you smell what Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions is cooking? If it smells like oil, solder, and suction cups, it’s because the company, run by Hiram Garcia, is co-producing Nacelle’s RoboForce animated series, inspired by the 1990s toy line. Previously, Nacelle and Seven Bucks joined forces for Behind the Attraction, a docu-series about the development and history of iconic attractions from Disney’s theme parks. I highly recommend checking it out. It’s super informative, and the episode about The Haunted Mansion is fantastic.
“We’re excited for Seven Bucks and Nacelle to partner together once again, especially to bring the iconic story of RoboForce to life,” Dany Garcia and Dwayne Johnson said. “We love that it’s a story about redemption, second chances, and rising to the challenge as told through the eyes of funny, messed up, renegade robots who finally get their chance to shine.

“Black Adam” filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra has been hired by Amazon MGM Studios to direct a movie starring Emily Blunt as pioneering female detective Kate Warne.
Melissa Stack wrote the screenplay from a previous draft by Gustin Nash. The untitled film, described as a “propulsive action thriller,” centers around a real-life Sherlock Holmes-esque character. Kate Warne was the first female detective at the Pinkerton agency and, according to a release, paved the way for future women in law enforcement and forever changed how detective work was done.
Blunt, who will also produce the movie, hasn’t finalized her deal because of the actors strike, but conversations are expected to resume once the guild has a new pact.

Back in 2015, just as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was cementing his status as one of the world's biggest movie stars, the wrestler-turned-actor starred in the highly successful disaster flick "San Andreas." This was actually one of the movies that proved Johnson could help open a big blockbuster outside of a major franchise. He had earned the reputation of being "franchise Viagra" given what he was able to do for "Fast & Furious," "G.I. Joe," and other established properties.

Filmmaker Clay Tweel has signed on to direct a new documentary based on the life of comedian Andy Kaufman. Produced by Ross Dinerstein’s Campfire Studios, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions, David Letterman’s Worldwide Pants Incorporated and Fifth Season, the film reps the first doc authorized by the Kaufman estate.
Fifth Season (“Being Mary Tyler Moore”) is fully financing the project, which will be overseen by Mary Lisio, executive vice president of non-scripted and documentary, and produced in partnership with the Andy Kaufman estate.
“I’ve always loved Andy because he was able to elicit such emotional reactions to his performances by using both the poignant and the absurd to keep his audience off balance. I hope we can honor his legacy in that way with our film,” Tweel said.

Fully financed by Fifth Season – with EVP of non-scripted and documentary Mary Lisio overseeing – the film will be produced in partnership with The Andy Kaufman Estate. Boasting unprecedented and exclusive access to Kaufman’s family, as well as personal and never-before-seen archives and private recordings — provided by the Estate — and all Kaufman-related archival material from the estate of his longtime manager George Shapiro, it will track the creative process of a performance artist who operated at an undefinable frequency.

While Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson’s ventures in the DC Extended Universe didn’t quite work out the way they had hoped, as well as the two finding themselves returning to a certain car franchise after a couple of cameos indicate their future involvement, they may co-star together yet again as Gal Gadot gives an update that a sequel to the Netflix heist-action-comedy Red Notice, which starred Gadot, Johnson, and fellow past DC casualty Ryan Reynolds, will still be getting a sequel.
Gadot will be starring in a new action movie that will be debuting on Netflix titled Heart of Stone. Disney is preparing to tackle their next live-action remake, giving “Moana” a 2025 release date. The studio announced a lengthy string of release dates and announcements for their 2024-2031 slate on Tuesday, including the date for “Moana.”
The film will open on June 27, 2025, which gives it a prime summer release date away from what could be a congested July 4th weekend.
The film won’t star original voice actress Auli’i Cravalho in the title role but the plot will remain the same, focusing on a young woman named Moana who wants to be a seafaring voyager. When her island home is threatened Moana must go forth onto the sea, alongside a demigod named Maui to save her people.
Casting for the title character is still on-going. Cravalho released a statement back in May saying, “I can’t wait to find the next actress to portray Moana’s courageous spirit, undeniable wit and emotional strength.

In case the box office returns for director Rob Marshall's "The Little Mermaid" this weekend didn't tip you off, Disney is nowhere near done remaking its animated features as live-action/CGI films. Personally, I'm just hoping we get a live-action "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" or a "The Black Cauldron" remake that does proper justice to Lloyd Alexander's "The Chronicles of Prydain." To be clear, I'm in no way advocating for Disney to keep churning out these live-action remakes. But seeing as they're clearly not going to stop doing that anytime soon, we might as well try and get something interesting and unexpected out of this nonsense, right?
Anyway, The Hollywood Reporter has gotten wind that Thomas Kail has been hired to direct "Moana," a live-action take on the studio's hit 2016 animated musical film that was only just announced back in April. Dwayne Johnson will reprise his role from...

Disney‘s live-action adaptation of Moana gets more magical by the moment after welcoming the Tony Award-winning director of Broadway’s Hamilton, Thomas Kail, to the high-profile project. Disney announced its plans for the live-action reimagining with the help of Dwayne Johnson, who plays Demigod Maui in 2016’s animated original. Johnson will reprise his role in Kail’s live-action adaptation and produce through his Seven Bucks Productions alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. Beau Flynn also produces via Flynn Pictures Co. Jared Bush, who wrote the animated original, returns to pen the remake.
Set in Ancient Polynesia, Moana tells the story of what happens when a terrible curse incurred by the Demigod Maui reaches Moana’s island. Answering the Ocean’s call to seek out the Demigod and set things right, the young woman reconnects with her ancestors and discovers she’s more powerful than she ever imagined.

“Moana” has found its director. Thomas Kail (“Hamilton”) has signed on to direct the live-action reimagining of Disney Animation’s 2016 musical hit, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Dwayne Johnson will be reprising his role as demigod Maui for the reimagined version. Johnson previously revealed the news in a taped segment featured in Disney’s annual shareholder meeting.
Like its animated predecessor, the film will celebrate the communities and traditions of Pacific Islanders as seen through the eyes of a young woman eager to pave her own path. What a hypocrite I am, because I still love WWE and I can’t go all the time. And I just didn’t see that, I was so selfish.”

John Carpenter, the writer/director behind classic comedy adventure "Big Trouble In Little China" (1986), starring Kurt Russell as 'Jack Burton', isn't too keen about the long-delayed sequel to his film, after being left out of the creative process. "They want a movie with Dwayne Johnson," said Carpenter. "that's what they want. So they just picked that title...":
"You can't remake a classic like that, so what we're planning to do is we're going to continue the story," said sequel producer Hiram Garcia.
"We're going to continue the universe of 'Big Trouble in Little China'.
"Everything that happened in the original exists and is standalone and I think there's only one person that could ever play Jack Burton...
"...so Dwayne would never try and play that character..."
Although he has been sidelined from the upcoming production, Carpenter continues to script new adventures of his "Big Trouble" creations.
