No one ever said loving people is easy. Each person comes with their own set of challenges and unpredictabilities. Patience, tolerance, and understanding are crucial for a meaningful and beneficial bond. If you’re willing to go the distance for someone you love, the rewards can be worth every moment of frustration, heartache, and pain. Today, Bleecker Street debuted a trailer for the studio’s comedic family drama, Ezra, a touching story about fathers and sons going above and beyond the call of duty to find balance in a world designed to judge and persecute.
Ezra follows Max Bernal (Bobby Cannavale), a stand-up comedian living with his father (Robert De Niro) while struggling to co-parent his autistic son Ezra (introducing William Fitzgerald) with his ex-wife (Rose Byrne). When forced to confront difficult decisions about their son’s future, Max and Ezra embark on a cross-country road trip that has a...

Bobby Cannavale Is a Stand-up Comic with an Autistic Son, a Road Trip, and a Dream in ‘Ezra’ Trailer
Bobby Cannavale has been passed over at the Comedy Cellar, but if he doesn’t get his act together — and we don’t mean his stand-up act — life itself will pass him by.
Bleecker Street released the trailer for its upcoming feature film “Ezra” on Wednesday, March 13, which in addition to Cannavale stars Rose Byrne, Vera Farmiga, Whoopi Goldberg, Rainn Wilson, Tony Goldwyn, and newcomer William A. Fitzgerald, and Robert De Niro. Pretty good cast there.
“Ezra” follows Max Bernal (Cannavale), a stand-up comedian living with his father (De Niro) while struggling to co-parent his autistic son Ezra (Fitzgerald) with ex-wife (Rose Byrne). Cannavale is broke — the living with dad part probably gave that away — and “still not over” Byrne.
Max gets his potential big break when invited to do a late-night set for Jimmy Kimmel. (Unclear if it’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in the “Ezra” Cinematic Universe.) One problem:...

Whoopi Goldberg, Rose Byrne, Vera Farmiga, Rainn Wilson and William Fitzgerald have signed on to join the comedic drama “Inappropriate Behavior.” Bobby Cannavale and Robert De Niro were previously announced as the star and major supporting character, respectively.
Cannavale plays Max Bernal, a late-night comedy writer who tries and fails to parlay his success into a second act as a stand-up comic. After moving in with his father Stan (De Niro), he clashes with his ex-wife Jenna (Byrne) about parenting their young son Ezra (Fitzgerald), who is on the autism spectrum. Tensions reach a boiling point when Max kidnaps Ezra to take him on a cross-country trip, to hilarious and disastrous results.
Tony Goldwyn (“Conviction”) will direct from a script by Tony Spiridakis (“Ash Tuesday”). Spiridakis was inspired by his own son who is on the spectrum, and previously wrote the 2015 short “Inappropriate Behaviors” about an autistic teen traveling across Iowa.

Thanks, Sonic the Hedgehog! Ever since Sega’s Blue Blur made boatloads of cash at the box office, studios have been mining video game properties for silver screen adaptations. Word of a live-action Pac-Man movie hit the internet earlier this week, but I wanted to ensure we had this momentous news covered. Don’t threaten me with a good time, Wayfarer Studios and Bandai Namco Entertainment!
Pac-Man was released by the Japanese video game company Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. in 1980, one year before I was born! Pac-Man is simple in execution and revolves around a circular yellow protagonist with a voracious appetite. While navigating a series of intricate mazes, Pac-Man gobbles pellets of varying power and the occasional ghost. Aside from appearing in many video game titles, Pac-Man starred in a Saturday Morning cartoon series from Hanna-Barbera called Pac-Man, which aired on ABC from 1982-1983. He also starred in the...

Wayfarer Studios and Bandai Namco Entertainment have partnered to develop a live-action Pac-Man film based on the classic arcade game franchise, Deadline can confirm.
Released by the Japanese video game company Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. (formerly Namco) back in 1980, Pac-Man has a player controlling the yellow orb of the same name, as he winds through a maze in an effort to chomp up dots, while being chased around by four differently colored ghosts. The character has previously spurred the creation of two television series—the Saturday morning cartoon Pac-Man from Hanna-Barbera, which aired on ABC from 1982-1983, and the CG animated series Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, which debuted on Disney Xd in 2013.
The new Pac-Man pic stems from an original concept from Lightbeam Entertainment’s Chuck Williams (Sonic the Hedgehog), who will produce with Tim Kwok for Lightbeam, along with Justin Baldoni, Manu Gargi and Andrew Calof on behalf of Wayfarer Studios.

The Directors Guild of America has nominated Bong Joon Ho for “Parasite,” Sam Mendes for “1917,” Martin Scorsese for “The Irishman,” Quentin Tarantino for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” and Taika Waititi for “Jojo Rabbit.”
The DGAs are seen as a stepping stone to the Oscars, where the last six best director winners also went home with an Academy Award. Last year, “Roma” filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón scored the feature film directing award, beating out Bradley Cooper for “A Star Is Born,” Spike Lee for “BlacKkKlansman,” Adam McKay for “Vice,” and Peter Farrelly for “Green Book.”
Three female filmmakers — Mati Diop for “Atlantics,” Alma Ha’rel for “Honey Boy” and Melina Matsoukas for “Queen & Slim” — were recognized by the Directors Guild in the first-time feature film award category differing from the Golden Globe Awards and the BAFTA Awards, which both failed to nominate female directors this year.

The Directors Guild of America’s feature-film nominations contain a lineup of acknowledged masters including Martin Scorsese for “The Irishman,” Quentin Tarantino for “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood,” Sam Mendes for “1917” and Korean auteur Bong Joon Ho for “Parasite.”
Taika Waititi may not have been mentioned in their company when he was best known for making comedies and horror flicks like “What We Do in the Shadows” and “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” but he joined the ranks of those other directors on Tuesday morning when the Directors Guild nominated him for “Jojo Rabbit.”
But the slate of nominees also means that the DGA will face some of the same questions that were aimed at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association when it nominated an all-male slate of directors for the Golden Globe.

Mel Gibson’s ‘The Professor And The Madman’ To Get Theatrical Release Via Vertical After Legal Fight
Exclusive: The Mel Gibson-Sean Penn period film The Professor and the Madman will be getting a theatrical release with Vertical Entertainment after the distributor took U.S. rights to the Voltage Pictures production. A theatrical release is planned for the second quarter of this year.
Gibson and his Icon Productions had tried to block the release of the movie, which is based on Simon Winchester’s book about the origins of the Oxford English Dictionary. This was spurred by a disagreement with Voltage CEO Nicolas Chartier over the pic’s shooting location. Gibson and director Farhad Safinia wanted key scenes shot in Oxford, England instead of Trinity College in Dublin. Voltage argued the pic was already over budget and behind schedule, with Gibson and Safinia reportedly walking off the pic.

Martin Scorcese's powerful religious film, following the Catholic church's mission to instill Christianity in Fuedal Japan, Silence is coming out this March! Come inside to find out how you can get your hands on it early.
One of the biggest snubs of this year's Academy Awards, Silence, is making its way to digital and blu-ray, merely 3 months after being on the big screen. The Martin Scorsese religious feature, starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, and Liam Neeson will arrive on Blu-Ray on March 28th, but for audiences who can't wait that long the Digital HD version will be available March 14th.
Understandably, there aren't many added features for the Blu-Ray/Digital copy of Silence. If you haven't seen the movie, there really isn't much of a need for an alternate ending, deleted scenes, bloopers, or anything of the sort. Instead, the only new content will stem from a...

The ambitious studio has scored one of the coups of the market, beating off intense competition to secure international rights to Martin Scorsese’s red hot upcoming crime drama starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
Gaston Pavlovich’s Fabrica de Cine came on last week to fully finance and produce The Irishman, which will mark his second collaboration with Scorsese after Silence.
The film marks a coup for Stx Entertainment as it continues to assemble a heavyweight slate for incoming international president David Kosse to worth with alongside president of international sales John Friedberg. Universal and Fox were among the studios bidding for the international piece on The Irishman, and there was interest from several leading sales agents.
Kosse and Friedberg played a key role in bringing in the project. Kosse acquired international rights to Scorsese’s 2013 The Wolf Of Wall Street when he and Stx Entertainment chairman of the motion picture group Adam Fogelson were at...

The Social Network‘s Armie Hammer has joined the cast of actor/director Nate Parker’s The Birth Of A Nation, a biopic of African-American slave turned revolutionary Nat Turner, who led a bloody rebellion in 1831 and went down in history as one of the most controversial American figures preceding the Civil War.
Turner, born in 1800, led the famously violent Virginia insurrection that moved from plantation to plantation freeing slaves and left 60 white men, women, and children dead. He was later captured, arrested, and hanged but his legacy grew to mythic proportions.
Parker broke out opposite Denzel Washington in 2007’s The Great Debaters and stars in this week’s Relativity release Beyond The Lights from director Gina Prince-Bythewood, makes his directorial debut with the historical drama, which he spent years scripting. He will also star in The Birth Of A Nation with Hammer, who’s playing Samuel Turner, the son...
