In 1989, just months after he earned his first Oscar nomination for Big, and a few years before he went on a run of critical and commercial success that’s nearly unrivaled in the history of cinema, Tom Hanks starred in a series of middling movies that never would’ve suggested the megastar he’d become. One of these was Turner & Hooch, which starred Hanks as fastidious small-town cop Scott Turner, whose life is upended when he takes in a big, messy French mastiff named Hooch. It was a modest success,...

Meet the new Hooch. During Disney’s Investor Day, the company shared a first look at the dog sharing top billing in Turner & Hooch, Disney+’s upcoming series reboot of the classic 1989 comedy feature, from 20th Television.
Like the movie, the hourlong series centers on Scott Turner, played by Josh Peck, who now is a U.S. marshal — versus the police detective played by Tom Hanks in the movie. When the ambitious, buttoned-up marshal inherits a big unruly dog, Hooch, he soon realizes the pet he didn’t want may be the partner he needs.
In the movie, Hooch was portrayed by Beasley the Dog, a Dogue de Bordeaux (French Mastiff), who died in 1992 at age 14. In the 12-episode series from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix, the role is played by five different dogs of the same breed: Arnie, Hammer, Obi, Cyd and Mya. (It is Hammer in character above.

The classic 1989s buddy cop comedy feature Turner & Hooch is getting a TV series treatment for Disney+. I have learned that the Disney streaming platform is working on a Turner & Hooch TV series adaptation from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix and 20th Century Fox TV where Nix is under an overall deal.
Details about the series are scarce, but it is believed to be keeping the premise of the original movie, which starred Tom Hanks, and also revolves around a police detective and his dog, I hear. The TV series had been in the works for awhile. It has been gathering momentum recently, and I hear it is heating up for a green light. Reps for Disney+ and 20th TV would not comment.
