Over the past week or so, Apple Music has slowly unveiled the titles included in its list of the “100 best albums.” Today, the top 10 albums were revealed, with Miss Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill claiming the No. 1 spot. Rounding out the top five are Michael Jackson’s Thriller; The Beatles’ Abbey Road; Prince’s Purple Rain; and Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
The top 10 also includes Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life; Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version); Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black; Nirvana’s Nevermind; and Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
In all honestly, it’s a pretty safe top 10, especially considering the drama that unfolded when Apple unveiled picks 11-20 and slotted Adele’s 21 at No. 15 and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) at No. 18 — ahead of albums like Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds,...

The Voice is celebrating 25 seasons on NBC with the Season 25 finale, and it is remembering all the coaches who spun their chairs throughout the years.
Finale night started with a throwback performance from Og coaches Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, and Blake Shelton. The quartet performed Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” which Green co-wrote, during the premiere episode of The Voice back in 2011.
After the performance, host Carson Daly read the names of the coaches who have appeared on The Voice over the past 25 seasons.
Blake Shelton has been the longest-running coach, spinning his chair for 23 seasons. Adam Levine was featured as a coach for the show’s first 16 seasons. Christina Aguilera was a permanent fixture in the first three seasons. She would then take a break and return for three more seasons, in Seasons 5, 8, and 10.

The U.S. Supreme Court has endorsed open-ended recovery of damages for copyright infringement, ruling that music producer Sherman Nealy can pursue over a decade’s worth of damages for an unlicensed sample of his work by Flo Rida in his 2008 tune “In the Ayer.”
The finding, in a 6-3 ruling issued on Thursday, could expand the scope of damages in cases in which plaintiffs were previously barred from recovering money for infringement that occurred more than three years before the filing of a lawsuit. In some cases, claimants could potentially get a bigger payout by waiting to sue and letting damages stack rather than trying to stop the alleged infringement as long as they bring a lawsuit within the statute of limitations.
“There is no time limit on monetary recovery,” wrote justice Elena Kagan in the majority opinion. “So a copyright owner possessing a timely claim for infringement is entitled to damages,...

Lawyers who represent Pink filed legal paperwork against Pharrell Williams on Thursday, claiming he should not be allowed to register a trademark for his P.Inc. business since it’s too much like, well, “Pink.” The singer, whose real name is Alecia Moore, applied for the “Pink” trademark in 1999 and officially registered it two years later, according to the paperwork which her lawyers filed on behalf of her Lefty Paw Print, LLC business.
“[Williams’] P.Inc Mark is similar to the Pink Marks in sight, sound, meaning and commercial impression,” the filing claims.

Have you ever looked at Donald Trump and pictured him getting down to “Despacito”? Popping his geriatric kneecaps to “God’s Plan”? Well, the Republican National Committee has. The RNC featured both songs in the first installment of a playlist series aimed at generating hype around its 2024 nominating convention, which will take place in Milwaukee this July and crown Trump as the party’s official presidential nominee.
Notably, the playlist features few pro-Trump artists — and none of the cringe-inducing Maga rappers who’ve gone viral debasing themselves in the former president’s name.

Focus Features has acquired worldwide rights to Carey Mulligan comedy “The Ballad of Wallis Island,” Variety can confirm exclusively.
They will release the film in the U.S. while Universal Pictures International is handling global distribution.
The film, which was previously titled “One For The Money,” is directed by James Griffiths (“Cuban Fury”) and produced by Steve Coogan’s Baby Cow productions (“Philomena”).
The screenplay was written by Tom Basden (“After Life”) and Tim Key (“Great Expectations”), who also star in the film alongside Sian Clifford (“Fleabag”) and Akemnji Ndifornyen (“Famalam”).
“The Ballad of Wallis Island” tells the story of Charles (played by Key), an eccentric lottery winner who tries to reunite his favorite musical duo Mortimer-McGwyer (Mulligan and Basden) despite the fact they split up many years ago. Making things even more awkward, the musicians – Nell Mortimer and Herb McGwyer — were also once romantically involved with each other a la Sonny and Cher.

Beyoncé’s new album, Cowboy Carter, is out in the wild. In a press release, Beyoncé provided extensive insight into the making of the album and its variety of influences. Plus, read our review the album here.
Each Song Was Inspired by a Western Film
Notably, each song is its own version of a reimagined Western film, including Michael Matthews’ Five Fingers For Marseilles; James Bridges’ Urban Cowboy; Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight; Clint Eastwood’s Space Cowboys; Jeymes Samuel’s The Harder They Fall; and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Often times, they films were playing on a screen during the recording process.
Additionally, some aspects of the album’s percussion were inspired by the Coen Brothers’ ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
Beyoncé also found inspiration in traditional country, R&b, blues, zydeco, and Black folk music, as well as from her childhood trips to the Houston Rodeo.

Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter was created over the past five years. During that span of time, the world was upended by a global pandemic and social strife; Martin Scorsese grappled with the blood on the hands of American history with Killers of the Flower Moon; and Beyoncé brought diamonds and disco to the dance floor on Renaissance. All these vastly different occurrences are components that informed the creation, imagery, and release of Beyoncé’s first-ever country album.

Michel Gondry hasn’t worked with a Hollywood studio since the 2011 comedy “The Green Hornet.” But he’ll do so for his follow-up to last year’s “The Book Of Solutions” for what’s arguably the most peculiar project in his filmography. Deadline reports that Gondry heads to Universal to direct an untitled coming-of-age musical set in 1977 Virginia Beach. The project is the brainchild of Pharrell Williams, inspired by the music producer’s childhood living in the the city’s Atlantis Apartments.

Michel Gondry is about to make a lot of people happy, teaming with Pharrell Williams, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and recent Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph for Atlantis, a new film that is partly inspired by Williams’ upbringing.
While no plot details have been unveiled, according to Deadline, Atlantis is “a coming-of-age musical, set in 1977 Virginia Beach, which draws inspiration from Williams’ childhood growing up in the city’s Atlantis Apartments.” In addition to Gondry signed on as director, screenwriters on board are Toy Story 4’s Martin Hynes and Tick, Tick…Boom’s Steven Levenson.
Atlantis was revealed back in 2017. While Hynes was attached even as far back as then, originally Michael Mayer – who won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical for Spring Awakening – was set to direct.

Tyler, the Creator says Pharrell Williams has always left doors open for him, and that gesture of goodwill has led the multi-hyphenate to Louis Vuitton for a new capsule collection that debuted on Thursday.
Williams, a longtime friend and collaborator of Tyler, took over as creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton in 2023, and since that time, he’s welcomed many friends into the fold. Rihanna starred in an early campaign and she also took a seat in the front row at Williams’ first show in Paris alongside the likes of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, Lenny Kravitz and Jared Leto.
Tyler, the Creator was also on the scene that night in Paris, and the items he helped design for this spring 2024 men’s collection are said to be an extension of Williams’ “preppy and dandy” vision for the house that he’s been rolling out ever since. Tyler...

On Thursday, March 14, Hans Zimmer hosted a live discussion, along with two of his closest collaborators, at The Whitby Hotel in New York City to talk about creating some of cinema’s most iconic scores and taking his music out of the studio and on tour with Hans Zimmer Live.
“It is my greatest passion and honor to receive directions from Hans,” said Loire Cotler, the vocalist behind both “Dune” soundtracks. “Musical directions, directions about character, directions about the sonic landscape, the atmosphere of the scene or of the emotion. It could be that Hans will say to me something like, ‘Imagine you’ve just swallowed sand.’ Then we are about to say goodbye on the phone and then Hans will say, ‘One more thing, go swallow sand.'” Zimmer immediately interjected, “Hang on, they need some context.”
“The first ‘Dune’ movie, we did during Covid. Loire was recording in her closet with her coat.
