Director Allen Hughes, who helmed the award-winning HBO documentary “The Defiant Ones,” has closed a deal with Tupac Shakur’s estate for a five-part docuseries for which he will have full access to all of the late rapper’s released and unreleased recordings, writings and poetry, according to an announcement from his rep. The announcement says the series will be “the first definitive, comprehensive project on Shakur with the full cooperation of the estate.” A rep for the estate confirmed the deal.
Hughes will direct and is an executive producer with Lasse Järvi and Charles D. King. Tom Pellegrini is a producer and the production companies are Interscope Films and MacRo. A rep for Hughes declined to provide further information.
Hughes himself worked with Tupac in the early 1990s, directing a video for the rapper’s early hit “Brenda’s Got a Baby.” However, the two got into a fistfight...

Hughes will make it his follow-up project to the superb HBO docuseries The Defiant Ones, on Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. The Tupac documentary aims to be the first definitive, comprehensive project on Shakur with the full cooperation of the estate.

YouTube stars the Fine Brothers are joining with Big Block Entertainment on an untitled teen comedy. Benny and Rafi Fine — who have built a big presence on YouTube and other social media — and will write, direct and produce the untitled feature-length project.
The film is billed as “an over-the-top look at the clique-filled world of high school” as outcasts turn the tables on their tormentors.
“We haven’t made a feature-length film since we were teenagers, and we’re excited to be making one now,” the brothers said in a release. “Consider this our spin on classics like Can’t Hardly Wait and Mean Girls, and we can’t wait to unleash this movie to our 10+-million subscribers and beyond.”

In the first sale of this year's Tribeca Film Festival, Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to the documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi," about master sushi chef Jiro Ono, the company announced Wednesday.
