In 1989, the legendary Patrick Swayze starred in the original Road House movie. The movie has achieved cult status in the meantime, and while the 2006 sequel was panned by critics, Amazon decided to remake the movie, which was released earlier this year to mixed reviews, but it seems that the fans were more than satisfied, as a sequel has been announced by Amazon, with the first film’s main star, Jake Gyllenhaal set to reprise his role in the sequel. We’re certain that this sequel won’t repeat the failure of the original sequel, but it remains to be seen how well Amazon is going to execute it.
The first movie was released in March 2024, and the critics on Rotten Tomatoes have agreed that “Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original’s emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.”

It's official: "Road House" is getting a sequel. Not the original Patrick Swayze classic from the '80s, mind you. Rather, the recent Jake Gyllenhaal-led remake that premiered earlier this year on Amazon Prime Video is getting a follow-up. Amazon has confirmed that "Road House 2" (which does not officially have a title) is in the works, with Gyllenhaal due to reprise his role as Dalton. Little else has been revealed but the company wasted little time in getting the project going.

The procedural shows have been popular with viewers for many years. Projects dedicated to the work of firefighters and other emergency personnel offer a 50-minute dose of drama and action.
Chicago Fire creators Michael Brandt and Derek Haas have been writing together since the 1990s. They sold their first script while Brandt was working as an assistant editor on Robert Rodriguez's The Faculty in 1998, but their first known project came five years later, a Fast and Furious sequel. Another famous film of the duo is the western 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.
So, Brandt and Haas definitely know a thing or two about quality scripts.

Exclusive: Betsy Brandt is set to executive produce and star in the newly greenlit Lifetime movie The Bad Orphan. Chloe Coco Chapman will make her television debut alongside Brandt and additional cast members Mark Taylor (Reacher) and Eve Edwards (The Good Doctor).
From writer Doris Egan, the psychological drama centers on Jessica (Brandt) and Karl (Taylor), loving parents to Rhiannon (Edwards), who after years of trying to add to their family are elated to adopt Gabby (Chapman), an 8-year-old orphan born with personal challenges. Their ideas of a perfect family come into question when they discover that Gabby is a troubled little girl, and the family begins to believe things aren’t what they seem.
As the unsettling behavior of their “child” worsens and lies are uncovered, cracks in the family dynamic form with Jessica increasingly becoming concerned that adopted daughter Gabby is a threat to their family.

Kyle Brandt and Jason McCourty hosted Good Morning Football one last time from the NYC studio before the show’s move to LA later this year.
Things got emotional at the end of the broadcast when Brandt went outside to the streets, where the cast had hosted many segments over the years. Brandt recalled the first episode, which aired on August 1, 2016, in which he said it was an “honor” and “privilege” to be at the Gmfb table in NYC.
“I also remember at that time I had 18 months guaranteed on my contract, and my wife said, ‘Well, if the show is terrible, at least we have 18 months to figure out how to move back to LA,'” Brandt said. “And 18 months in New York City became eight years, it became over 1,800 episodes and it became home at the breakfast table.”

Road House is a very big deal in my family so I was initially concerned when a remake was announced. Thankfully, after watching the film, my worries have been cast aside as I had an absolute blast with it. (You can check out Bumbray’s review Here!) This is just as dumb and fun as the original. Sure, it lacks that 80s charm, but it’s replaced with a modern beachside aesthetic that works. And Conor McGregor is chewing so much scenery that I question how the sets were even standing by the end.
Daniela Melchior and Lukas Gage were nice enough to chat with me about the film. I, of course, had to inquire how much experience they had with the original film. They talked about not comparing themselves with the performances from the original and trying to carve out a path for themselves. I also had to make...

“Cat and Dog” is a comedy movie written and directed by Reem Kherici starring Franck Dubosc, Reem Kherici and Philippe Lacheau.
This movie is a mix of human actors where only Reem Kherici stands out. She’s inspired, cheerful, and fluid in her role. The two male protagonists just do their job. However, the film introduces two true stars to save the day: a dog and a kitten, two computer-generated characters that truly steal the show.
The script is simple and unassuming. The special effects are nothing outstanding, but the puppy and kitten are so charming that it’s worth overlooking the film’s cinematic shortcomings and simply bask in the cuteness and charm of these two new pals.
Plot
As Monica and Jack prepared for takeoff, they suddenly realized that their respective pets, Diva and Chichi, were missing on the tarmac. Monica’s famous influencer cat and Jack’s...

Loosely based on the comic series by Mark Millar and J. G. Jones, Timur Bekmambetov’s Wanted was a stylized action movie starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman. The film was a critical and commercial success upon its release in 2008, grossing over $342 million worldwide, so it came as no surprise when the studio got the ball rolling on Wanted 2; But here we are, sixteen years later, and there’s no sequel in sight.
Michael Brandt, one of the co-writers of the original movie, told MovieWeb that while a script for Wanted 2 exists, he fears that the momentum to get it made has been lost.
“We had an idea for a sequel. We pitched it, wrote it. And it seems like there was some real interest in the studio to make it,” Brandt said. “And then Timur, who directed the first one, absolutely was interested as well.

To celebrate the release of Road House, the anticipated remake of the 1980s classic, we had the pleasure of having a chat with its cast about bringing the new version to life.
In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
Chatting to Gyllenhaal (Dalton), Daniela Melchior (Ellie), Lukas Gage (Billy), and Billy Magnussen (Brandt), we talk about the pressures associated with any remake of a beloved film, how the tone and feel of the new thriller is much different while still paying homage to the original and its star Patrick Swayze, the intense fight choreography and preparations and more. We also test their knowledge of the “three rules” of Road House and how the influence of Family Guy is perhaps a...

So, last weekend saw the release of a sequel, the fourth in a franchise concerning the powerful Po, and this Friday we’ll get a hybrid sequel/reboot with those proton-pack sporting phantom fighters. So, what about a full-fledged remake? Aha, you’ll get your wish this Thursday with a “re-imagining” of a cult favorite from way back in 1989, a year which I’ll always associate with the caped crusader. But he wasn’t the only action hero as the late great (Starlord called “legendary”) Patrick Swayze rocked a cool mullet as he broke bones and noses (and a few hearts) as the baddest “bouncer” of them all. Sure, there was a straight-to-video sequel in 2006, but now we get a new spin on the tale when we drop in for some brews and bruisin’ at the ole’ Road House.

Bill Hader or, at least, an animated character that he voices, will don a red-and-white striped top hat in a new adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat.”

Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Dr. Seuss Enterprises officially announced the casting on Monday.
“The Cat in the Hat” will open in theaters on March 6, 2026. Although the book is a children’s classic, it has a checkered cinematic legacy. “One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it’s absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.” Those words, uttered by Patrick Swayze’s James Dalton in 1989’s Road House, are the rules to defending a roadhouse, and watching Doug Liman’s remake, you may find yourself wishing that someone had told the filmmakers that a little bit of number three goes a long way, because this nihilistic retooling of Rowdy Herrington’s cult classic is anything but.

In the era of action films like John Wick, the bar for adrenaline-fueled entertainment has been set high. And when it comes to remakes, there exists a fine line that must be walked between regard for the original and fresh perspectives.
Doug Liman directs the remake of the classic1989 film Road House, which premiered Friday in the Headliner category at SXSW 2024. Unfortunately, this remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a lackluster and ultimately unnecessary retread of the original Patrick Swayze-starring film.
Central to the movie is Gyllenhaal’s Dalton, a former UFC brawler grappling with his past. Struggling to get by on his reputation, Dalton catches the eye of Frankie (Jessica Williams), who owns a roadhouse in the picturesque Florida Keys. She recruits him as her new bouncer, aiming to protect her cherished establishment from a ruthless gang under the command of the local criminal overlord, Brandt (Billy Magnussen).

Before joining The Walking Dead universe as Pearl Thorne in The Ones Who Live, Lesley-Ann Brandt starred in a variety of roles for TV and film. The South African actor is well-known for taking on projects in horror, fantasy, and other traditionally “nerdy” genres, having appeared in shows like Gotham, The Librarians, and most notably Lucifer.
With a variety of roles under her belt, here’s where else you’ve seen Lesley-Ann Brandt before.
Lucifer
As mentioned previously, Brandt is most known for her role as Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) right-hand Mazikeen in the hit TV series Lucifer. Mazikeen a.k.a. Maze is known for her fierce loyalty, though she sometimes struggles to adapt her brash nature to the human world. Brandt does a phenomenal job of portraying Maze’s growth from demon with a penchant for sadistic torture to a slightly more vulnerable and human demon with a penchant for sadistic torture.

Lesley-Ann Brandt rose to fame for her appearance in the hit show Lucifer, and last year, it was announced that she had secured a recurring role in The Walking Dead’s spinoff. With her jam-packed schedule, she still makes sure she fulfills her greatest job: being a mother.

Working long hours on sets is difficult enough, but it definitely felt like hell for the actress when she was pregnant. It was more of a nightmare when she had to resume work without proper recovery.

The international scope and grueling human cost of the global refugee crisis lends itself to contemporary epic filmmaking of a particularly sober stripe, as seen mostly recently in Agnieszka Holland’s “Green Border” and Matteo Garrone’s Oscar-nominated “Io Capitano.” Shorn of their ripped-from-the-headlines urgency, such stories of humans crossing vast distances and facing hostile odds in pursuit of a better life are as old as time itself. A muscular, assured debut feature from U.S. producer-turned-director Brandt Andersen, “The Strangers’ Case” stresses the sprawling scale of the situation with a chaptered structure that pivots between multiple involved parties in the refugee’s journey, from warmongers to traffickers to rescuers to the displaced victims themselves.
That wide span, however, prevents a particularly penetrating look at any individual experience of the crisis. Brandt draws his characters in broad, flat strokes that serve the architecture of the narrative — and its cumulative, practically...

When Andrew Lincoln exited The Walking Dead in 2018, we were promised a trilogy of movies to tell us what came next for our hero.
Six years later, we’re getting The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, a six-episode limited series that will chart Rick’s story after being handed over by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) to the Civic Republic Military (Crm) and Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) harrowing quest to find him.
AMC shared the first four episodes with critics before the premiere, and after waiting so long for this story to come full circle, I can confidently say that it’s a resounding success.
In pre-series press, the cast has been vocal about the show being a love story with a post-apocalyptic backdrop, and that’s probably the best way to describe it.

The San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback was never supposed to be leading the team, at least not to a Super Bowl game. Brock Purdy was once saddled with the “Mr. Irrelevant” moniker after he was drafted with the final pick of the 2022 NFL draft.
Because of his unlikely celebrity, little was known about the signal-caller’s private life until now. Did you know he’s about to be a married man? Brock Purdy is engaged to his college sweetheart, Jenna Brandt, and they have set a wedding date.
How did Brock Purdy and Jenna Brandt meet?
Brock Purdy and his fiancee first met while in college, although it is unclear exactly when the duo linked up. Still, a social media post clarifies that they became a couple as undergraduates. Both Purdy and Brandt entered the University of Iowa as freshmen in 2018. Purdy, an Arizona native, traveled to the Division I school to play football.

We love the "Mission: Impossible" movies, don't we folks? These globe-trotting, death-defying adventures get bigger and better with each installment. At the center of each entry is Ethan Hunt, played by stuntman/actor Tom Cruise. Ethan is our guide into the world of the Imf and their various missions, but he can't do it all by himself. He has a team to back him up, and while the team has changed over the years, there's a core group that stays the same.
There's Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, a hacker turned Imf agent. There's Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, who started off working in a lab and eventually became a field agent. Then there's Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a former MI6 agent who has more or less joined the Imf due to her friendship with Ethan. We all know that Mission: Impossible is about Ethan Hunt, the living manifestation of destiny. With mega-star Tom Cruise in the role, the character of Hunt became more important to the franchise than any of the leads of the original series, Jim Phelps, Dan Briggs (Steven Hill), or Cinnamon Carter (Barbara Bain). But for a little while, producers considered phasing Hunt out of the series, making him the new secretary of the Impossible Mission Force while Jeremy Renner’s William Brandt became the new team leader.
Those plans changed midway through the production of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol when Christopher McQuarrie came in to finish a script started by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec. Although director Brad Bird had already started shooting scenes for Ghost Protocol, McQuarrie successfully argued that Hunt should remain the focus and could not be replaced.
This behind-the-scenes tension added a spark of electricity between Brandt and Hunt on screen.

Once Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn both lost on their 2022 Emmy nominations for “Better Call Saul,” their show joined “Murder, She Wrote” in first place on the list of drama series with the most unsuccessful TV academy acting notices and no wins, at 13. With six regulars and seven guests on this year’s first-round ballot, the recently concluded AMC program could potentially double its current acting Emmy nominations total and comfortably surpass that of its parent series, “Breaking Bad” (17). However, if it at least reaches 19 and none of its 2023 contenders triumph, it will set a new record as the show with the most failed acting bids and no wins, regardless of genre.
“Better Call Saul” ran for a total of six seasons, the last of which was split into two parts. After primarily beginning as a prequel series to “Breaking Bad” about formerly supporting character Jimmy McGill (aka Saul Goodman...

“It was fascinating for me to be in that world, that I didn’t expect to,” admits Betsy Brandt about her shocking appearance in the “Better Call Saul” finale. For our recent webchat she continues, “To get to see my character later was such a gift to me. It was one of the few times I’ve felt satiated. I’ve sat with that and think about Marie a lot. It was incredible for me to get to do that.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
From 2008 to 2013, Brandt played Marie Schrader on each season of “Breaking Bad.” Marie was the sister-in-law of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), whose husband Hank (Dean Norris) was killed as a direct result of her in-law’s drug empire. On returning to the character she reflects, “I never could have imagined getting that kind of closure for that character. I think Marie is stronger than she thinks she is.

Bremen (Germany), June 13 (Ians) Late goals from Kai Havertz and Joshua Kimmich helped Germany to clinch a 3-3 stalemate against resilient Ukraine in front of 35,975 spectators at the Weser stadium, here.

Leonie Brandt was an interesting historical character but a lack of curiosity and reliance on re-enactment obfuscates rather than illuminates
How do you make a film about someone of whom there exists no moving images? Diving into the mysteries surrounding Leonie Brandt, an actor turned double-agent for the Dutch intelligence service during the second world war, Annette Apon’s documentary enlists the extensive archive of the Eye Film Museum, an approach that unfortunately obfuscates rather than illuminates a historical enigma.
Depicting the “greatest hits” of Brandt’s life, from her brief acting career to her daring exploits in Nazi Germany, the film utilises a wide range of clips mostly from silent movies, the images edited together as literal illustrations of the events recounted by the voiceover. There’s little stylistic purpose here, as the film oscillates between the first-person Pov of Brandt and Apon’s third-person perspective. For cinephiles who know their film history,...

Eight long years after the legendary “Breaking Bad” saga came to a heavenly close, Betsy Brandt graced us with an unexpected appearance as her character Marie Schrader on the series finale of “Better Call Saul.” This AMC prequel is reaching a similar status of its own.
Brandt’s critically lauded, grief-stricken widow absent of her famously favored color purple, made every single second of her screen time count in “Saul Gone.” She delivered a show-stopping, teary-eyed monologue that ranked amongst the highlights of “Saul’s” swan song episode. The ocean of subtext made the moment eternally affecting and fitting. More than fans could have ever hoped for.
Despite “Breaking Bad” garnering a whopping 58 Emmy nominations (16 of them resulted in wins), Brandt somehow never received recognition for her work as Marie. And considering how multiple male actors were able to make the supporting lineup over the years, it seems unjust for...

The thriller unfolds in a mix of flashbacks to Alison’s final days, and Emily’s present-day hunt for answers. “It’s every parent’s worst nightmare,” Brandt says. “On the island, there’s a little bit of a whodunit. Richard Widmark reportedly used his clout to amp up this revisionist western, but the result seems forced at best, and hampered by Universal’s TV-grade production values. The sober screenplay brings in good ideas but the execution can’t quite hold its own with the more progressive westerns of the genre-changing years 1968-’69. A cast of familiar faces makes much of it look fresh: Carroll O’Connor’s venal saloon keeper steals the show, while interesting casting gives us Lena Horne as Widmark’s romantic partner.
