A 1904 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Virginia Whitehead made her way east to New York City, where she performed on and off Broadway in various productions as an actress and interpretive dancer. For over forty years, with her brother Douglass, she owned and operated the Whitehead Dance and Drama School in the Steinway Building on West 57th Street across from Carnegie Hall.
