There's nothing quite as fun as watching our favorite celebrities get as excited as we do about their fictional counterparts. So, when our March Madness: Best Lesbian/Bi Character Ever tournament kicked off on Monday, we were delighted when Ali Liebert, Lauren Collins, and Michelle Krusiec went to bat for the gay ladies they play(ed) on Bomb Girls, Degrassi, and Saving Face.

It was Michael Seater, who plays Bomb Girls' Ivan, that kicked things off for Team Canada.
Guys. Betty's goin to the semis at least right? @afterellen @bombgirls #afterellenmarchmadness #votebetty afterellen.com/2013/03/vote-n…

To which the former Miss Paige Michalchuk replied:
@michaelseater @afterellen of Course I'm up against an L word star. But thanks for the support michael. not.

Good morning, Brewbies! I can't believe I finally get to say the thing I'm about to say: Pretty Little Liars is back tonight, bitches!
There's an all-day marathon on ABC Family if you need to catch-up before tonight's winter premiere. And, as always, we'll be live-tweeting the show with the hashtag #BooRadleyVanCullen!
If you work for the Pentagon and/or the Department of Defense, there's a good chance you're not reading this post — or any post on any website about any gay thing, actually. Think Progress is reporting that the Pentagon's specialized filtration software blocks sites flagged at "Lgbt." That includes such sexually explicit content as, oh, The Trevor Project, Pam's House Blend, and The Human Rights Campaign. However, if you want to peruse anti-gay websites like The National Organization for Marriage or RedState or Glenn Beck's own personal blog,...

Good morning, Brewbies.
It was a big day for our openly gay Olympians yesterday.

Seimone Augustus scored nine points as the Us women's basketball team defeated Turkey. Lisa Raymond and her Us doubles partner Liezel Huber defeated their Russian opponents in straight sets. In handball, Rikke Skov scored seven goals for Denmark even though her team fell to Spain 24-21. Bisexual goalkeeper Mayssa Pessoa from Brazil helped her team move past Great Britain 30-17. And French handballer Alexandra Lacrabere scored a single goal as her team defeated Sweden 29-17.

In sad news: Australia's Natalie Cook announced her retirement from professional beach volleyball after she and her partner Tasmin Hinchley were eliminated from the games after their third straight loss. Cook won a bronze medal at the '96 Olympics and a gold in Sydney in the 2000 games.

Nearly every lesbian I know has that TV show, or that movie, or that book, or that song. You know the one I'm talking about. The one where you're watching it or reading it or listening to it, and for the very first time everything just clicks into place: "Oh, right. I'm a raging homosexual." For me, that show was the 1990s UK prison drama Bad Girls. Adding to the personal poignancy is the fact that Scribegrrrl's Bad Girls recaps wove such a magic spell around me, infused me with such a sense of wonder and reverence, that I began to dream of a time when I, too, might be able to write recaps for AfterEllen.com.
The show means a lot to me, is what I am saying. So you'll understand why I had to be borne away to my fainting couch where I wept bitter, anxious tears when...

"Great LezBritian" is a fortnightly stroll through the very best of British lesbo-centric entertainment and culture. Plus there will be some jolly good interviews with the top ladies who are waving the flag for gay UK.
A couple of columns ago we wrote about the British women we wish were gay, which gave rise to much debate and informed us that our readers lust after and loathe Cheryl Cole in equal amounts. We decided that in this column we’d like to celebrate the British ladies we’re glad actually are gay or bisexual, which has been an unexpectedly tricky task.
Once again we sent out a Tweet asking you to suggest your favourite Britbians, and as the land that proffered Skins, Tipping the Velvet and Bad Girls, we were certain that Britain would have so many options that we’d be tossing second tier choices out of the list...

Thanks to popular British film and television, there is a perception outside Britain that roaming amidst our green fields and cobbled streets are delicate, silver-spooned beauties and post-Henry Eliza Doolittles. While we are on record as being rather fond of the corset — for two reasons — in reality, there is a much more diverse bunch of British ladies turning heads. And a high proportion of them are swigging pints, not tea.
So we are dedicating this column to the introduction and celebration of some of today's most desirable ladies in dear old Blighty. And because we are gripped by UK election fever, we decided to be democratic about it and sent a Twat out a few days ago asking you to nominate the UK ladies you wish were of a lesbian persuasion.
It would be far too challenging a task to look at this with any deep meaning — we'd have to flick through historical archives,...

In our first annual Top 50 Lesbian and Bi Characters poll, we asked you to vote for your favorite characters from film, television, and internet shows.
You cast your votes, and now we have the results. Before we reveal the winners, let's take a look at some of the trends that emerged.
Almost all of the characters were from films and television shows that made their debut after the year 2000. A few of the exceptions include Kerry Weaver from ER, and the ass-kicking ladies from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
While most of the characters were from Us productions, a fair amount came from international shows, including our top two characters (from the UK show Skins).
Also notable was the fact that some of your favorite characters, the leads from Xena: Warrior Princess (which ran from 1995-2001) and Idgie Threadgood from the film Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), were never officially presented as lesbian or bisexual.

I'm not one to draw lines in the sand about good art and bad art. I'm not comfortable saying this thing is better than that thing; or that so-and-so are a better couple than such-and-such — except for this: The first three series' of the UK prison drama Bad Girls is the best lesbian story ever on TV, and Helen Stewart (Simone Lahbib) and Nikki Wade (Mandana Jones) are the all-time, number one, super dooper, mega best lesbian couple in the history of time and space forever and ever, amen.
It's been 10 years since the show first aired in Britain, and Helen James recently sat down with Simone Lahbib to talk about the impact of Helen and Nikki's relationship (and a possible reunion!) a decade after its humble beginnings.
We'll get to that part in a second, but first let's quickly flip through our Larkhall scrapbook to remember what makes Helen...
