Rising music star Priti Menon has dedicated her latest single ‘Khabida’ to Grammy and Academy award winning musician A. R. Rahman.
‘Khabida’ is Priti’s follow up to super smash hit duet with Arjun, Teri Meri (Remix), which achieved more than 1.2 million hits on YouTube in only six months, and is a song she says is inspired by the iconic musician.
Priti has returned to her classical roots with ‘Khabida’, which translates as ‘dreamy eyes’ and teamed up with lyricist Raqueeb Alam who has worked with Rahman in the past.
“I dedicate this song to A.R. Rahman who has been an inspiration behind this heartfelt composition. With Khabida, I have done something different to the popular genres prevalent in the British Asian Music industry and offered music lovers a sound they haven’t heard in a while. I’m positive that the soul I have put into the vocals will...

I recall your first song from back in 1993, quite a journey for you since?
Wow! You remember that? ‘Mein tera aashiq’ hoon from Gumrah…
Yes, you were new on the scene. Kumar Sanu was reigning then and you also sang a song later with him?...

Kailash Kher and his band Kailasa have made history by being one of a select handful of Indian artists to have been invited to perform at the prestigious BBC Maida Vale Studios in London.
The exclusive recording took place on April 3rd, 2012, one day prior to the start of their first ever UK tour organised by Saregama Events UK. Hosted by BBC Asian Network radio, the session saw Kailash and his talented band perform a selection of seven songs from their noteworthy repertoire, including their biggest album hits, ‘Teri Deewani’, ‘Allah Ke Bandey’ and ‘Saiyaan’, plus tracks from their latest album, Rangeele.

In a world where awards are given based on talent, the Mercury Prize, one of the UK's -- and the music industry's -- most prestigious awards, will be handed to one British musician (or musical group) tonight. In the guessing game leading up to the evening, we've somehow ended up with two favorites. But doesn't a favorite mean there can only be one?
It seems different metrics are being used to determine what constitutes a favorite. According to the Guardian, Pj Harvey is the favorite to win this evening, with bookmakers Ladbrokes and Paddy Power giving her 5/4 odds, as opposed to much lower 5/1 odds for Adele. The BBC also places Harvey as the favorite, citing the bookmakers as well. Harvey won the prize once before in 2001, for Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea. If she wins again, she'll be the first artist to ever take home the Mercury twice.

In its second year, the highest music extravaganza(geographically), the Ladakh Confluence, promises to be grander and better. This year, the confluence will be held between July 15-18. And as promised last year, the event will span over four days and will see an array of live acts, playing acoustic and full set gigs at the grounds of Sindhu-Darshan Festival in Ladakh. However, the organisers are tight-lipped about the artiste schedule. Last year’s hallmark performances were delivered by the likes of Talvin Singh, Rahul Sharma, Bauchklang, Shaa’ir+Func, David Swarupe, Ortal Palleg and local crowd pleaser Soulmate. Attractions like the drum circle and ...

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth can't get to their London premiere of "The Last Song" because of the volcanic ash flight cancellations.
And if the dangerous ash continues, it threatens to disrupt the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival in New York, the Cannes Film Festival as well as major international film junkets.
A-list Hollywood stars including Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, Shia Labeouf, Carey Mulligan, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams all have big films premiering at Cannes this year.
Russell Crowe and Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke have junkets in London this weekend skedded for their films "Robin Hood" and "Iron Man 2." Both could be disrupted by flight cancellations.
Already, stars are getting creative trying to make their international gigs.
Monty Python comedian John Cleese had to take a taxi from Oslo to Brussels after getting stranded by the volcano. There were no boats, no train tickets available.

Earlier we reported that the band “The Cribs” and “Frightened Rabbit” had to cancel their performances at Coachella due to the cancellation of all flights out of Europe caused by the volcano ash from Iceland. However, some bands such as Thom Yorke, Gorillaz, Muse, and Hot Chip, were fortunate enough to have made it over to the U.S. before the flights were cancelled. We thought the first series of cancellations were it for the weekend, but it looks like the volcano ash has seized to disappear and more acts have been compromised.
The twitter for Coachella just tweeted the following statement, breaking more bad news to the weekend passholders.
“we’re sorry to report that Talvin Singh, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Gary Numan won’t make it to the festival”
Gary Numan shared the sad news with his fans on his website with the following post:
“It is now 5Pm here in the UK.

The 2010 festival season is officially underway, as the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (which will be held in the usual place in Indio, California on April 16, 17 and 18) now has an official lineup. Jay-z, Muse, Pavement, Gorillaz, Faith No More and Vampire Weekend lead the way at the top of the pile, but there are also plenty of up-and-comers who will be worth spending time with in the desert heat (you should already schedule time to see Beach House play their new songs on Saturday).
Since no lineup is perfect, let's take a look at the five bands we're most looking forward to, along with the five bands that make us go "Huh?"
The Best
Them Crooked Vultures: They're perhaps the best live band working right now, and Josh Homme songs always sound better when you're a little bit dehydrated.
Public Image Limited: We sort of forgot Johnny...

Coachella has always been seen as the least traditional of the big U.S. music festivals, and in 2010, they're definitely staying with that sentiment. On Tuesday (January 19), organizers revealed the lineup for this year's Coachella fest — set for April 15-18 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California — and the bill is topped by three acts you wouldn't necessarily see headlining fests here in the states (except when the Beastie Boys drop out at the last minute): Jay-z, Muse and Gorillaz.
Coachella 2010 Lineup
Joining them are the usual assortment of 'Chella acts, including the prerequisite reunited acts (Pavement, Faith No More), the icons (Thom Yorke, Devo, Sly and the Family Stone), the indie stalwarts (Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Spoon, Mgmt), the hotly tipped buzz acts (Yeasayer,...

Film-makers, musicians and more look back on their achievements and favourite works from the noughties
Kevin Macdonald, film director
Personally, it's been a fascinating decade. In the late 90s, I was struggling to make TV documentaries but work was drying up. I was a purist, with no interest in working with actors. I hated the idea of dramatic reconstructions because they look so cheesy. Then I worked with actors on Touching the Void and this led to dramatic features, though documentaries remain my first love.
The British film industry has always been about boom and bust. We start out with unrealistic optimism: "We're going to compete with Hollywood!" Then we have the collapse and the correction. We saw it with Alexander Korda in the 1930s, with Rank after the war, and with Gandhi in the 1980s. This decade it happened again.
The collapse of Film4 back in 2002 was part of this problem.

The re-released cinematic head-trip Forest of Bliss adheres firmly to the purer school of documentary-making
The lowest form of documentary involves a presenter setting off on a journey to discover why he or she didn't yet know something about which we, the audience, were already adequately informed. Near the opposite end of the documentary spectrum are those quiet, almost anonymous films such as Être et Avoir or Sleep Furiously, in which a community is observed and recorded with minimum fuss and no overt manipulation. Beyond those are films – so seldom seen that one could be forgiven for thinking them extinct – with no presenter, no commentary, no characters, no specific setting and no narrative or story. Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi (a Hopi Indian word meaning "life out of balance"), made in 1982, is the classic of its kind: a compilation of ravishing footage of cities and natural wonders, seen at night and in the blaze of day,...
