Last month, 20th Century Studios unveiled a teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus, director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise that is set to reach theatres on August 16th. (You can watch the teaser Here.) With the release date just four months away, Alien: Romulus received some love during the Disney panel at CinemaCon.
An exclusive extended scene from Alien: Romulus was screened a CinemaCon which followed Cailee Spaeny’s character wandering through a broken-down spaceship corridor with Aileen Wu’s character. They see a ripped-apart android among the debris. David Jonsson’s character, who is an android himself, is rebooting with an interesting effect in his eyes, but at that moment, a swarm of face-huggers burst into the room, chasing the characters out. We saw a bit of this scene in the teaser.

Director Fede Álvarez (2013's "Evil Dead") is looking to revitalize the "Alien" franchise with his new film: "Alien: Romulus." No, "Romulus" isn't hinting at a "Star Trek" crossover, but it does feature rising stars like Cailee Spaeney ("Priscilla") and Isabella Merced (2025's "Superman").
After the mood-setting first trailer for "Alien: Romulus" and some positive buzz (including recruiting the effects team from "Aliens" who built the Xenomorph Queen), /Film's Ryan Scott caught another glimpse of "Romulus" at CinemaCon during the presentation by 20th Century Studios' parent company, Disney.
Set between the events of 1979's "Alien" and 1986's "Aliens," the film features its young stars dodging aliens — from facehuggers to Xenomorphs — on an otherwise empty space station (I wouldn't guess it's "abandoned" since there could be other reasons why there are no humans on board). How will "Romulus" stand out next to the previous film in the franchise, 2017's "Alien: Covenant," or indeed the original film?...

There’s a persistent theory going around about a potential connection between Alien: Romulus and the original Alien. Potential spoilers ahead…
Nb: The following contains theories about Alien: Romulus that, if correct, could constitutespoilers.
It was revealed several months ago that the story in Fede Álvarez’s upcoming Alien: Romulus would take place between the events of Alien and Aliens. And as we saw in last month’s trailer, the space horror sequel certainly appears to lean more heavily on the Alien side of the equation, at least visually – the industrial, retro-futuristic corridors of its Romulus station are recognisably close to those of the Nostromo, the setting for 1979’s Alien.
There’s one theory doing the rounds, meanwhile, that suggests that Alien: Romulus’s connections to Ridley Scott’s classic could be more than skin-deep. The trailer appears to show that the Romulus orbits the same planetary system seen in Alien,...

Alien: Romulus dropped its first teaser this week giving viewers a glimpse of the horrors that await them on a space station swarmed with one of the deadliest alien species. The upcoming film is the seventh installment in the Alien franchise (excluding the crossover movies), which began with 1979’s Alien directed by Ridley Scott.

While fans might be excited about the project because of its connection to Scott’s films in the franchise, the acclaimed director only serves as a producer this time. Instead, director Fede Álvarez, who is known for his work on some of the best horror films of the past decades, is helming the project. The teaser trailer and poster for a truly terrifying cinematic experience from producer Ridley Scott and director/writer Fede Alvarez, 20th Century Studios’ Alien: Romulus, is here!
The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
Alien: Romulus opens exclusively in theaters nationwide August 16, 2024.
The production and set design are incredible – it’s a terrific combination of the Nostromo from the original 1979 film as well as the elevator from the 1986 sequel Alien.
In today’s interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Alvarez said of Ridley Scott and James Cameron:
James Cameron is also someone I’ve met through the years, and when he learned that I was doing it, we started chatting about it. So I also...

Alien is returning to the big screen, this time sans Ridley Scott in the director’s chair or Michael Fassbender’s android with a God complex. Shepherding the franchise forward into a new era is Fede Alvarez, the director behind the 2013 remake of Evil Dead and the 2016 slasher Don’t Breathe. As revealed in the first trailer for the film, Alien: Romulus looks like a return to the roots of the series: a space station and its crew, including star Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), run afoul of a swarm of facehuggers and all hell breaks loose.
The situation is very reminiscent of Ripley’s own nightmare on the Nostromo back in the 1979 original, and it’s clear shots of Spaeny’s character Raines armed with a Pulse Rifle are meant to evoke memories of Aliens, too. That’s on purpose, of course, since the movie is not only bringing back the aesthetics...

The first teaser trailer for "Alien: Romulus" just dropped, and Fede Alvarez's take on the space-set series looks, well, horrifying. The sneak preview includes buckets of blood and some gnarly body horror, making it a welcome return to what worked so well for Ridley Scott's chest-bursting 1979 original. "Evil Dead" and "Don't Breathe" helmer Alvarez certainly appears to be putting his own spin on the world of "Alien," but he also confessed in a recent interview with Variety that he drew from the work of the greats who came before him – and even sat down with them to talk about their work.
When asked about the film's continuity, Alvarez explained where "Alien: Romulus" falls in the "Alien" timeline, and explained that he went to both original film director Scott (who's producing the new movie) and sequel writer-director James Cameron to help maintain the canon story as it exists so far.

Fede Álvarez is bringing the beloved franchise back from the dead this August. Take a look at the first Alien: Romulus trailer.
We’ve been following the development of Alien: Romulus with interest, but also with a bit of concern. The franchise, which started with Ridley Scott’s pretty perfect 1979 film Alien, has had many ups and downs and that’s without even counting the unfortunate Alien vs. Predator films. Could directed Fede Álvarez, best known for the Evil Dead reboot, pull this off?
Well, the first teaser trailer would suggest so.
Here’s the first Alien: Romulus trailer.
There’s not much we need to say about it, the trailer speaks for itself. We don’t see much, which is understandable, the film is still months away, but we see – and crucially, hear – enough to be convinced that we’re in good hands.

Cover your mouths, everyone – a fresh batch of those bastard facehuggers is unleashed in the visceral first trailer for Alien: Romulus, the long-awaited next film in the legendary sci-fi horror franchise. Following Ridley Scott’s flawed but ambitious duology of Prometheus and Alien Covenant (which really could have done with a third and final chapter), the Xenomorph series is heading into a new direction with filmmaker Fede Álvarez. And as anyone who’s seen Don’t Breathe or his 2013 take on Evil Dead will know, the man does not hold back. That’s true, too, for this first Romulus teaser, which really does look like it’ll be another ‘in space, nobody can hear you scream’ situation. Check it out here:
As the accompanying blurb explains, this is a back-to-basics approach for Alien – a bunch of space bods, set upon by cinema’s cruellest creature, fighting for survival. And there’s...

It’s finally here! After being teased for months, our first peek at Fede Alvarez’s all-new addition to the xenomorph universe, Alien: Romulus, is here! While the 60 second teaser trailer embedded above doesn’t give us too much of an idea what the film will be like, the blood-covered pod and glimpses of our heroine clutching a pulse rifle make this look like a hard-r rated throwback to both Alien and Aliens.

Alien: Romulus doesn’t hit theaters until August, but filmmaker Fede Álvarez already has the wind at his back. That’s because Ridley Scott and James Cameron — the highly regarded directors behind one of cinema’s ultimate one-two punches, Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) — have already proclaimed their love for Romulus, which takes place between their two films and very much connects to them. Today, Álvarez and Disney finally pulled back the curtain on the “interquel,” releasing a terrifying 62-second teaser trailer that re-establishes the look and feel of the franchise’s bona fide classics.
The story focuses on a group of twenty-something space colonizers and scavengers who have the misfortune of meeting a Xenomorph inside a dilapidated space station. The film has a notably young cast that’s led by Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, as well David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. Álvarez says that the idea to...

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" famously struggled creatively during its first season. The inaugural villains, the Ferengi, flopped (to the point actor Armin Shimmerman felt the need to repair their reputation when he returned to play Quark on the spin-off "Deep Space Nine"). So, the writers dug up some old foes with a storied history -- the Romulans. The Romulans returned in the season 1 finale, "The Neutral Zone," and became enduring enemies of the Enterprise-d.
The Romulans were once Vulcans but split off centuries ago after rejecting the path of logic and serenity. As a result, the Romulans share most of their cousins' physical features, such as pointed ears. In "Reunification," a two-part episode in "The Next Generation" season 5, Spock (Leonard Nimoy guest-starring) is working on Romulus to bring the Romulans and his people back together.
However, upon the Romulans' reintroduction in "The Neutral Zone," make-up Michael Westmore gave them some cosmetic surgery,...

Director Fede Alvarez should now be in production on the new movie in the Alien franchise, a project which may or may not be called Alien Romulus. Originally designed to debut on Hulu, Disney recently announced an August 16, 2024 theatrical release date for the movie, which bodes well for its quality. So as a filmmaker who’s known for moments of brutal, cringe-inducing violence works to bring the Xenomorphs back to our screens, we decided it was time to put together an article that keeps track of Everything We Know About Fede Alvarez’s New Alien Movie.

Star Trek Nemesis just about marked the death of the franchise. Indeed, the fact that it was a worldwide box-office disaster meant that many felt the series had run out of steam. For the first time in many years, there were no active big-screen franchises or Trek shows running on TV, with the often neglected Star Trek: Enterprise going off the air in 2005. It seemed space operas were out of vogue, with the rise of superhero movies taking Hollywood by storm. Not only was there the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies and the Christopher Nolan Batman movies breaking box office records, but also a little company called Marvel studios decided to start making the own movies, beginning with Iron Man.
But what about Star Trek? For a while, Paramount wouldn’t have been able to produce a Star Trek movie even if they wanted to, with the company’s owner, Viacom,...

Inspired by the vestiges of a bygone industrial age in places like Flint and Ypsilanti, as well as the enduring grandeur of Tahquamenon Falls, Sufjan Stevens’s Michigan was, to borrow from William Butler Yeats by way of Joan Didion, something of a “slouch towards Bethlehem.” Set against the backdrop of a nation grappling with the effect of globalization, the slow creep of post-modern isolationism, and the trauma of 9/11, the album serves as both a freeze-frame of an era and a signpost of a new direction for indie music in 2003.
Michigan was the first entry in Stevens’s 50 States Project, with a proposed album about each state in the United States. The ambitious series was ultimately revealed to be, at least in part, a joke, with only one other album—2005’s Illinois—ever completed.
Michigan isn’t just Stevens’s home state, but a microcosm of the broader challenges faced...

Kieran Culkin and Claire Danes worked together on Burr Steers’ 2002 indie “Igby Goes Down,” in which Culkin played the angst-ridden 17-year-old title character to Danes’ slightly older Manhattan socialite Sookie Sapperstein. All these years later, Danes is visibly pregnant, and they chat like old pals about the difficulty of naming her third child with Hugh Dancy. “‘Cyrus,’ we came to pretty readily. ‘Rowan,’ we had to fight harder for. This one is impossible,” she says.
“I realized the movie you and I did together is over half of our lives ago,” Culkin says.
“It’s very nice to see you again,” Danes replies wryly, “in our midlives.”
But the two actors have serious business to discuss, with Culkin convincingly telling Danes that her show “Fleishman Is in Trouble” — particularly her portrayal of Rachel — “helped my marriage.” In Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s limited series, Danes’ Rachel Fleishman appears to be the careerist...

If there’s anybody who knows about Star Trek, it’s Jonathan Frakes. The man who joined the franchise as Commander William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation has been a mainstay ever since. Not only has he directed episodes of nearly every series that followed, including the movies First Contact and Insurrection, but he’s played Riker (Will or doppelganger Thomas) in most as well. So if Number One has an opinion about Trek, fans would do well to listen.
In a recent article for SFX Magazine (via SlashFilm), Frakes shared his opinion about the future of Star Trek movies. “TV is the future, it seems to me,” he told the magazine, casting doubt on the prospects of more movies. For Frakes, the issue isn’t the quality of past films, nor even their box office prospects. It’s simply the complexity of the process.
