Amazon is in talks to develop a TV series based on the life of the late Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, an individual with knowledge of the production told TheWrap.
The electronic commerce giant is eyeing “Sandstorm,” a TV series about the man who staged a coup and took over the North African state at the age of 29 and then ruled for more than four decades before he was murdered by his citizens in 2011.
“Bloodline” writer and producer Carter Harris will pen the script, with “Clash”s Mohamed Diab set to sit in the director’s chair.
Both will executive produce, along with Tariq Merhab and Nicole Romano under the Anonymous Content and Ali Jaafar and Fadi Ismail for O3 Productions — the banner of Mbc Group, the most prominent media company in the Middle East.

In 2011, the Arab Spring revolutionary wave led to a civil war in Libya, with Nato intervening with a military assist to the anti-Gadhafist National Transitional Council (Ntc).
The Libyan government was overthrown, and the dictator retreated to Sirte. He was then captured and killed by militants of the Ntc.
The series began through the partnership made between Anonymous Content with O3 Productions, with the goal of developing content about the Middle East that will appeal to a global audience.
A rep for Amazon had no comment when reached by TheWrap.
Deadline first reported the news.

The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

Danny started out as a black sheep, but now he's a full-blown monster. He's a moral chameleon with possessed eyes and a gaping hole where his heart used to be. Written by Carter Harris, "Part 10" made me feel as dumb and broken as John. For a majority of these recaps, I've been sticking up for Danny, trying to prove that it was somehow his family members who created his dark side. I still believe Danny's a product of his past, but I can no longer lend him my defense.Danny's spun a web, and he's waiting for everybody to fall into his trap. "That's a sign the fun's starting," John says to Eric. The difference between this Danny and the one we met at the beginning of the series is that the new one (or real one?) does everything with a sense of maliciousness. Danny's earlier actions would've led you...

HBO led all TV networks in attracting nominations in the 60th anniversary WGA Awards, fetching two noms for dramatic series writing and three for comedy series writing.
In the dramatic series category, HBO's The Sopranos and The Wire are joined by Showtime's Dexter, NBC's Friday Night Lights and AMC's Mad Men.
In the comedy series category, HBO attracted noms for Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage and Flight of the Conchords. Also nominated in the category are NBC's The Office and 30 Rock.
Conchords also attracted a nom in the category of new TV series, where it joins Mad Men, FX's Damages, ABC's Pushing Daisies and Comedy Central's The Sarah Silverman Program.
The WGA's recent news releases have dealt almost solely with its ongoing strike against some of the same companies figuring in the WGA Awards. The guild had planned to release its TV and radio noms today but released the information late Wednesday without previous notice.
"In order to maximize press coverage for the 2008 Writers Guild Awards as well as not compete with Golden Globes' nominees ... we made the decision to go out a day earlier than previously announced," WGA West spokesman Gregg Mitchell said.
Globe noms were released this morning.
The WGA Awards are set for Feb. 9, with simultaneous ceremonies planned at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles and the Hudson Theatre in New York.
