Republican lawmakers in Florida are pushing a bill that would revise the state’s wrongful death law, allowing individuals to sue — and recover monetary damages — over the loss of an “unborn child.”
Critics say the legislation would allow individuals to bring wrongful death lawsuits against doctors who provide abortion care and even friends or relatives who help a woman obtain an abortion — something men have already tried doing in several states that have banned abortion or passed laws granting “personhood” rights to fetuses, embryos, and fertilized eggs.

The end of any given year is a strange liminal space outside of time where one begins to reflect upon the days that were and the uncertain days still to come. It’s weird. Some might even say it’s a zone … of twilight. Yes, the New Year represents the perfect occasion for a marathon of Rod Serling’s sci-fi/horror anthological masterpiece. And sure enough, Twilight Zone marathons on TV have been a mainstay of the season for quite some time.
The New Year’s Eve Twilight Zone marathon is one of TV’s most consistent and perhaps least understood traditions. The yearly marathon has been taking place since at least 1980 but no one is quite sure who started it (regional TV stations New York’s Wpix or Los Angeles’ Ktla are the two best candidates) or when it even made the jump from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve.

As House Republicans make public their intent to move forward with an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden, they’re struggling to convince the public — and even themselves — that they’ll be able to obtain the evidence of the high crimes and misdemeanors necessary to impeach a president.
On Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson published an op-ed in USA Today explaining his reasoning for formalizing the investigation into Biden, which has so far skirted the usual requirement of a floor vote to officially open an impeachment inquiry.

The House Ethics Committee did not formally recommend the House of Representatives move to kick George Santos out of Congress despite finding “substantial evidence” that the New York congressman is guilty of federal crimes. The committee’s chairman, Rep. Michael Guest (R-Miss.), took matters into his own hands on Friday, filing a new resolution to expel Santos.
Santos survived an expulsion vote earlier this month, with most Republicans and 30 Democrats voting against the resolution — which was introduced by New York Republicans. The Ethics Committee’s report could certainly move the needle,...

Rep. George Santos (R-NY) faces the renewed prospect of being expelled from Congress, after a report from the House Ethics Committee concluded that he deceived donors, stole from his campaign and “sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit.”
The committee also unanimously recommended referral of the “substantial evidence” of potential criminal violations to the Justice Department.
Read the Ethics Committee report. Read the Ethics Committee investigative report.
Santos blasted the bipartisan report, writing on X/Twitter, that it was “a disgusting politicized smear that shows the depths of how low our federal government has sunk. Everyone who participated in this grave miscarriage of Justice should all be ashamed of themselves.” He said that he would not seek reelection to his seat next year “as my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time.

A group of House lawmakers want to know: Was China the reason for Jon Stewart’s exit from Apple TV+?
Stewart’s show, The Problem with Jon Stewart, effectively ended last month when Stewart and his team parted ways amid “creative differences.” Sources told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that “there had been tension between Apple and Stewart ahead of the show’s third season return over topics featured on The Problem.” Among the topics was issues related to China and artificial intelligence.
Now, the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party has sent a letter to Apple and its CEO Tim Cook citing the THR story, and asking whether the tech giant’s long relationship with China was behind the move.
“If these reports are accurate, it potentially speaks to broader concerns about indirect Chinese Communist Party (Ccp) influence over the creative expression of American artists and companies on Ccp-related topics,...

There’s a misconception that the British are a stoic people who just might get quite cross in the event of a zombie apocalypse. But the truth is rather different, as was shown in 2005, when six people were hospitalized and a man stabbed when an Ikea store in North London put 500 leather sofas on sale for less than 60 bucks each and a riot ensued.
In that sense, Mahalia Belo’s intriguing debut The End We Start From is very much a British disaster movie, speculating just how quickly the country’s perceived veneer of respectability would evaporate in a crisis. But, more than that, it’s a dreamlike study of what it means to give birth, how life-changing the experience is and the strain it puts on relationships. It would make a great double bill with Children of Men.
When we first meet the Woman (Jodie Comer), she is heavily pregnant and running a bath.

Few working filmmakers can speak to the inner workings of both Marvel and DC quite like James Gunn, who has just completed his three-film MCU run with this week’s release of his trilogy-capper “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” while also working to rebuild DC Studios alongside longtime producing partner Peter Safran.
So, if there’s one guy who gets what it’s like in Marvel Land and DC World, it’s this dude. And he’s not buying that the two superhero-powered studios are all that different.
The filmmaker and newly minted studio honcho told Yahoo! Entertainment in a new interview that he doesn’t ascribe to the belief that Marvel and DC are locked in some intense rivalry, or even that they do things in opposing ways. “People have this weird belief that Marvel and DC hate each other or somehow are polar opposites,” he told the outlet.

“You’ll have to bear with me,” offers Daisy Kelliher in her canorous Irish accent. “I’m in Antigua on a very small sailboat.”
I’m on a Zoom call with Daisy, indefatigable chief stewardess of Parsifal III on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, who’s on a sailboat sitting on a small bed in a tiny cabin — not unlike the ones she rooms in on the hit series. “How can fandom be toxic?!” Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid) scowls after his motive explanation and reveal as one-half of the Ghostface team in last year’s Scream. “It’s about love! You don’t fucking understand– these movies are important to people!”
“Toxic fandom” may only feel like a relatively recent term, used in reference to crazed, niche fandoms of movies, franchises, comics, and musicians alike, especially within online forums and social media groups. However, horror has always known, warned, and held up a mirror to those who take their love of these art forms just a tad bit too far, as depicted in the recent Donald Glover and Janine Nabers-created Amazon Prime show, Swarm.
The quick-to-binge 7-episode series– which subtly nods The Shining, Candyman, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, outwardly supportive but inwardly manipulative cults like Midsommar, and a hypnosis scene straight out of Get Out– follows a young woman named Dre,...

CinemaAhead of the release of Gunasekhar’s ‘Shaakuntalam’, Samantha said it was an honour to play a role essayed by many veteran actors over the years.Saroja Devi, Jaya Prada and Samantha/YouTube ScreenshotsShaakuntalam, a Telugu mythological drama starring Samantha as Shakuntala and directed by Gunasekhar, is set to release on Friday, April 14. A day ahead of the film’s release, Samantha shared images of all the actors who have played the role of Shakuntala in films over the years, starting from 1920. Samantha’s note accompanying the images said: “It has truly been the greatest honour. Shaakuntalam is yours from tomorrow.” Shakuntala is a mythological character from the Adi Parva, the first chapter of the epic Mahabharata. There’s some bad blood in the Taylor Swift community. According to a new report from social media tracking firm Graphika, the largest harassment in Swift fandom spaces is happening between radical Gaylor and Anti-Gaylor accounts online — and changing fandom interactions for the worse.
#Gaylor is a long-running fan theory that baselessly purports Swift is queer and is leaving secret messages referring to it in her work. (While she does leave “easter eggs” about various topics in her music, Swift has never said she is anything other than straight...

When fans reconnected with Rory Gilmore in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, she was listless, anxious, and unsure of how to proceed with her personal and professional lives. She had so much promise, insisted fans, and showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino, destroyed all of that potential by making Rory entitled and a professional failure, to a degree. Some fans think Rory acted completely out of character in the revival. What if that wasn’t the case, though? What if Rory’s fall from grace was 100% realistic and predictable? There is evidence to support the theory.
There was evidence that Rory would falter in the original series
Rory was portrayed as the golden child in Gilmore Girls. She succeeded wildly at an academically rigorous prep school. Everyone in Stars Hollow loved her, and she was at ease around her grandparents’ high-society pals. Rory was everything Richard and Emily Gilmore had hoped Lorelai Gilmore would be.

One of Bill Murray’s classic Saturday Night Live characters was a lounge singer who sang ridiculous lyrics to instrumental songs. His lyrics to the Star Wars theme went, “Star Wars, nothing but Star Wars…” For the show’s 40th Anniversary Special, Murray sang some new lyrics, and NBC tried to change them.

Former head writer Jim Downey was a guest on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast on May 11. Downey explained why he was so passionate to expand the lounge singer sketch, and how he fought to keep the edgy lyrics intact.
Jim Downey wanted to expand Bill Murray’s ‘Jaws’ song
Before Star Wars, the biggest movie ever was Jaws. Jaws had a memorable theme song, so Murray sang lyrics to it on Saturday Night Live.

During the 60’s, Oshima exhibited a rivalry towards Japanese cinema, which was actually rooted to his hatred for the movies of Ozu and Mizoguchi, whose films he considered as “… made to be acceptable to the Japanese because they were based upon a familiarity with general concepts readily understandable by the Japanese…”. This dislike extended to the whole of the industry and thus, since 1960 and “Night and Fog” (whose purpose was to challenge the aforementioned trend and the industry in general), Oshima kept his distance from the major studios and particularly Shochiku, at the same time offering to the audience a new kind of cinema with a distinct political hue, that very few have experienced up to that point. “Death by Hanging” is the apogee of this tendency.
