“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” won three of its leading seven bids at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards on Sunday (Jan. 28), including Best Picture. While Martin McDonagh lost the Best Director race to Sean Baker (“The Florida Project”) he did win for his script. And his leading lady, Frances McDormand, picked up another prize on her seemingly inevitable march to the Oscars. (See the full list of winners below).
However, Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”) hit a bump in the road as he lost Best Actor to one of his Oscar rivals — Timothee Chalamet (“Call Me By Your Name”) — and the award for British or Irish actor of the year to another, Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out”). Oscar hopeful Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water”) won that homegrown award on the distaff side. And “Dunkirk” claimed Best British/Irish Film over, among others, “Three Billboards.”

Paddington 2: the sequel that was so good, even the Mail On Sunday gave it five stars (we may all take a wee moment to stand back and delight in the glorious irony, there).

Paul King's second film held further metaphors for immigration and London as a multicultural melting pot, expanding on the themes of the first, but somehow delivering them in an even more poignant fashion. It also had nothing but joy and loveliness to dish out to cinemagoers of all ages, even in its more perilous moments. There's a reason Paddington 2 has gone on to become only the fourth movie ever to score a 100% positive rating on...

Harry Potter and Paddington 2 producer chats to us about the films, about cinema, and about Ravenous...
Producer David Heyman has another hit franchise on his hands. Notwithstanding his huge success with the Harry Potter movies, he's also now on the verge of releasing Paddington 2 into cinemas. Which seemed like a good excuse for a nice chat...

When you were in the midst of the first Paddington, did you imagine you’d be so successful that you’d not only be making a sequel, but also the second most successful non-us family film of all time?
I think it’s the most successful non-studio family film of all time.
I apologise. Clearly my sources are a little off.

Our final interview for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is with the film’s director, David Yates, who took a brief break from the Potterverse to direct The Legend of Tarzan over the summer, but has returned to work with Jk Rowling on her latest venture.
The movie introduces Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist” who comes to New York in 1926 with a briefcase full of rare and magical creatures. When he meets Dan Fogler’s “No-Maj” (American for “Muggle”) Jacob, some of the creatures in his briefcase are let loose, so the two of them have to search New York trying to retrieve them before the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MacUsa) finds and destroys them.
Lrm spoke with director David Yates at the New York junket, but before getting into Fantastic Beasts, we allowed him a quick victory lap for the success of his Tarzan movie.

Producer David Heyman may be competing with a couple others like Spielberg, Lucas and the Broccolis to be considered the most successful movie producer ever, but he’s somehow found that success from his cozy home in England without having too much interference from Hollywood.
Of course, it helps when you’re the producer behind the hugely successful Harry Potter movies that have grossed over $7 billion worldwide, but Heyman had similar success bringing the children’s character Paddington to the screen, as well as shepherding Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi epic Gravity to its $723 million global box office and seven Oscars.
So let’s just say that when Harry Potter author Jk Rowling decides that she’s going to write a screenplay based on her character Newt Scamander and his book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it takes a producer like Heyman to make that movie happen… and to...
