I'll say one thing for the show's writers: They picked the perfect title for Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Season 1 Episode 4.
The deaths have just about slowed to a complete stop in the latest episode, with Bloody Rose seemingly intent on tormenting and torturing the girls with the subtle tactic of spamming their phones.
With the moms' complete and total absence, it's safe to say that Pretty Little Liars: Summer School will revolve solely around the girls and their misdeeds.
If that is the case, it would appear that the killer this season may not have any ties to the girls or the Waters family.
Mere hours after Mouse got attacked by a homicidal maniac, we left word for Sullivan, and then she got into an accident. No, not suspicious at all.

The Planet of the Apes franchise has moved forward in time with some new characters. But at the same time, it has managed to keep the nostalgia of the spirit from its previous iterations.

Every teenage girl looks forward to their sixteenth birthday, but in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Season 1 Episode 3, it's less of a rite of passage and more of a matter of life or death.
While this season of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School has definitely kicked things up a notch, the series isn't skimping on the teen angst and what it means to be a girl in high school, even if it's just summer school.
At least the one good thing they have working in their favor is that they seem to rarely be entirely by themselves. It's a horror trope that, thankfully, has been axed since the previous season.
As the show becomes fully immersed in summer, the story shifts focus from violent slayings to real teenage problems, like cute boys. If only someone had told them that the problem never truly goes away.
Although Noa's case might be slightly different,...

Heading into theatres, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes had huge shoes to fill, as the modern trilogy, which concluded seven years back, set the bar pretty high. Although this entry in the IP doesn’t continue the trend of stepping up with each new release, which is reasonable considering how great the last one was, it’s still a worthy continuation of the franchise.
While not physically present in the film, Wes Ball did an impeccable job of capturing Caesar’s spirit and his influence, and the director didn’t drop the ball with the franchise’s new protagonist, Noa. Although the director confirmed that both Noa and Caesar are connected, it’s not the way that many would’ve assumed.

The latest installment of the long-running Planet of the Apes franchise was released last Friday to an opening weekend of $131.2 million at the worldwide box office. The film is the first in a new trilogy following the Cesar trilogy from 2011 – 2017. This also marks the first film released under Disney due to the 2019 merger with 20th-century Fox.
The film leaves things open-ended for another sequel, this time following the character of Noa, which makes you think how much longer this rebooted franchise can last. Now, we have an idea as to how long the creative team wants it to go.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the husband-and-wife writing duo behind Rise and Dawn and the producers of War and Kingdom, revealed their plans for the series’ future.

The curtain falls on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with a gripping and intense conclusion that sets the stage for future conflicts in this long-standing franchise. The film shifts its thematic lens by focusing on ape-on-ape violence, diverging from previous entries that grappled with man’s inhumanity to animals. A New Hero and a Ruthless Villain The story introduces us to Noa, played by Owen Teague, who embarks on a treacherous journey after his village is attacked by masked ape soldiers under Proximus Caesar’s brutal regime. When 20th Century Fox began production on the first "Planet of the Apes" film, they enlisted special effects makeup artist John Chambers to help transform actors like Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter, Maurice Evans, and James Whitmore into anthropomorphic apes. Chambers was already famous for having perfected Spock's Vulcan ears on "Star Trek," but a society of intelligent apes who were capable of communicating was like something straight out of "The Twilight Zone." Rather than create ape masks, Chambers instead crafted individual prosthetic pieces to be applied in sections, allowing the actors to emote with their own facial muscles -- a technique that revolutionized the art of special effects makeup.
Now, over 50 years later, the intelligent apes have traded practical makeup prosthetics in favor of breathtaking and realistic digital artistry. When it comes to 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," /Film's Larry Fried declared, "There is simply no...

There’s no shortage of lovable ape characters in the “Planet of the Apes” franchise, who act to balance out the grim, philosophical nature of the narrative – and exemplify the best potential of non-human humanity at the same time. The chimp scientists Zira and Cornelius in the original series, Caesar’s closest ally Maurice the Orangutan in the rebooted trilogy, and Raka in the recently released Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes fit perfectly in this trope. Despite having very brief screen time in the movie, Raka became a fan favorite character through his humorous antics, but especially because of what the character represents in the larger context of the overarching narrative. Even though Raka possibly didn’t survive (or did he?), by the end of the movie, as a character he has left a lingering effect on the future of the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise, which...

Freya Allan Discloses Mae’s Dramatic Scene Alternatives in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Freya Allan’s recent interview shed light on her character Mae’s intense final scene in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Allan, who played opposite Owen Teague’s chimpanzee character Noa, spoke about the emotional depth associated with her role and the changes made during post-production. Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he’s been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike. Monday Am: These apes are going to need a bigger boat for their cash that is as 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes came in over expectations with a $58.5M opening. Sunday came in at $16.5M, down 19%, a strong attributable to Mother’s Day. Who knew moms were fans of the Planet of the Apes movies? Typical Mother’s Day Saturday to Sunday drops are around the -28% range.
That’s now the third highest opening for an Apes movie after Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($72.6M) and Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes ($68.5M). Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes only cost $160M, which is cheaper than Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes which cost $190M before P&a. Matt Reeves believed that he was going to be fired from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes when he suggested one crucial change to the plot point. He was brought in to helm the film in October 2012 after Rupert Wyatt, the first film’s director, dropped out of the project. Reeves suggested telling the story from Caesar’s point of view and beginning the film during the creation of ape civilization rather than in a post-apocalyptic world.
Matt Reeves suggested some radical changes for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes when he took over the film
However, the studio trusted Reeves’ creative vision and allowed him to tell the story he intended. It became one of the best decisions by the studio as Reeves ended up making the highest-grossing film in the Planet of the Apes franchise.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is now playing in theaters, which means key plot details have begun to find their way online.
In a new interview with THR, star Freya Allan (Mae) discusses the ending and how the original conclusion played out in far less subtle - and quite a bit darker - fashion.
Major spoilers follow.
During the climactic battle, Mae makes a fateful decision to blow open the floodgates and destroy the human tech the villainous Proximus was trying to get his hands on, killing hundreds of apes in the process.
“It’s not what she wants to do," Allan explains. "But it’s that, or Proximus has all these weapons and humanity is screwed. She’s gone through so much, she’s lost all the people she cares about, which was a large part of how I justified everything that she did,” Allan says. “So...

One of the prominent features of the Planet of the Apes franchise is that the binary that exists between apes and humans ends up being emphasized through a moral lens and via subversive takes, which acts as a symbolical presentation of the treatment of the marginalized in ‘civilized’ society. However, the ape antagonists who exist on the fringes of the binary, as traits of humans and apes seamlessly intermingle in their characterization, make for the most intriguing discourse involving the two species. In the original series, the orangutan Dr. Zaius played such a role as the ape leader of science and religion; in the rebooted trilogy, Koba, the human-hating Bonobo, made quite an impact as the usurper; and in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the tyrant Bonobo monarch, Proximus Caesar, has left a strong impression on viewers in a short span of time. Despite the character being a...

Updated: Primates ruled over the North American box office, as “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” collected $58.5 million in its first weekend of release.

Planet of the Apes is one colossal franchise in cinema history. It all started in 1968, kicking off a series of successful sequels, later the franchise received a reboot by Tim Burton in 2001. Though that one got mixed reviews, it set the stage perfectly for what Wes Ball has now delivered. Burton’s film introduced audiences to the Andy Serkis series, which has since solidified its own reputation and garnered immense popularity.

Spoilers for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" follow.
Koba (Toby Kebbell) from "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is the best blockbuster villain of the 2010s. One of Caesar's (Andy Serkis) sapient apes, first introduced in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," Koba was a lab animal in a previous life. The brutal treatment left him scarred (both skin-deep and deeper) and hateful towards humans. In "Dawn," finally in a position to strike back, he attempts to assassinate Caesar so he can lead his misanthropic war.
Koba is much like Magneto, perennial foe of the X-Men, and another figure who believes peace with humanity is impossible because of his past trauma. It's not a one-to-one comparison, though, because Magneto is more noble than Koba. Magneto has done evil, but his goal is the prosperity of mutantkind. Every Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Character, Ranked By How Much You Want To Hang Out With Them
Apes not kill apes ... and humans not spoil humans. Be warned: This article contains comprehensive spoilers for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes."
If I were living on a planet of the apes after a man-made virus wiped out the majority of humankind and left our simian overlords in charge, I would simply try to get along with everybody. Seriously, I'd like to know why nobody has ever thought of that before in the entirety of the "Planet of the Apes" franchise. If I were living on a planet of the apes after a man-made virus wiped out the majority of humankind and left our simian overlords in charge, I would simply try to get along with everybody. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has been getting a lot of attention since the release of its trailer. Not only is the film bringing back one of the most iconic science-fiction series of all time, but it is doing it with a fresh approach. There is one star at the forefront of the media spotlight with the film’s release; Owen Teague.
Owen Teague in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes as Noa
Taking over the role that Andy Serkis had in the series, with Noa becoming the new Caesar, the actor had some very big shoes to fill. While the role had to have been extremely difficult, there is no doubt that Teague has done an excellent job at it. Wes Ball recently gave an interview where he talked about the casting of the character. It would seem that finding the right Noa was particularly difficult.

The entirety of human civilization is built as much upon perseverance and innovation as it is upon exploitation and egocentric control over nature, and as the rebooted Planet of the Apes trilogy has shown, the consequential hubris led to the ultimate downfall of humanity. The same viral outbreak that marked the end of human civilization—sending the surviving humans back to a primitive state—enhanced the intellectual capabilities of the apes and resulted in the dawn of a new simian civilization, one that continued the harmonious relationship with nature. However, in the recent entry of the rebooted series Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, this new world order seems to have been shaken with the introduction of rogue ape clans, and human survivors who were unaffected by the virus and are trying to regain the world they have lost—and also due to the lost legacy of their first leader,...

Wes Ball had two things going for him in directing “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”: His love of the original franchise, which he first watched on TV as a kid in the ’80s, and his admiration for “Avatar,” whose virtual production and performance capture prowess he leveraged with the help of Wētā FX.
“Something I’ve always wanted to do is go play in that ‘Avatar’ style and do it here, where there is no camera, there’s no lights, there’s no set really,” Ball told IndieWire. “And you have to create that in the computer with really talented artists. And I had a great time doing it.”

After seven years and a change in ownership, the Planet of the Apes franchise returns in an all-new setting. Set generations after the previous film, War for the Planet of the Apes, the new Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes movie follows a new protagonist in a world where human civilization is a forgotten memory.
Director Wes Ball takes over from Matt Reeves, who helmed the previous two films. In what is meant to be the start of a possible new trilogy, it will have to fight an uphill battle compared to its predecessors. Does it stay faithful to the source mercurial, or does it veer off course? Let’s find out.

I love me some damn dirty apes, and I’m not alone. Ever since the first Planet of the Apes movie in 1968, it’s been one of Hollywood’s most consistent (on a quality level) franchises. Think about it. Has there ever really been a lousy Planet of the Apes movie? Not really. Yet, it’s often unheralded when we talk about the great franchises. So, let’s look at the series as a whole, with this Planet of the Apes movies ranked list (from worst to best). And don’t worry – you’ll get to have your say tomorrow with a poll I’ll be publishing, so check back for that.

Time and time again, leading figures have shaped the course of human history through their actions and ideas and left behind a legacy to build the foundation of the future. More often than not, their legacies have been distorted by detractors who sought to serve their own selfish needs, misguiding people in the process. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes focuses on this recurrent trait of human history, and viewers are treated to a reflection of the past through an engaging narrative involving simian characters.
As the fourth installment of the rebooted Planet of the Apes series, the 2024 film proves itself to be a worthy successor to Caesar’s saga by capturing the core essence of human-ape dynamics, which is made intriguing thanks to the subverted power equation. At the end of the "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," Mae (Freya Allan) returns to the Eagle-raising ape clan to say farewell to Noa (Owen Teague), telling him that humans should be allowed to return to their position as the dominant species. Noa tells her that doing so would stifle the freedom the apes are currently experiencing. The metaphorical genie can't be put back in the bottle, so to speak. But then the audience sees that she's holding a gun behind her back. It's a chilling moment reinforcing the tyrannical Proximus Caesar's belief that Mae is looking out for humans and no one else. It's a shock to the system considering everything the two have been through, and it also leaves the ending up to interpretation. Was she there to kill him? Was the gun a...

Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is finally in theatres, and the film has been welcomed to positive reviews from both fans and critics. Many complimented it for its stunning visual effects and added that while it may not be the best film in the franchise, it is still a worthy addition to it. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes saw Owen Teague in the lead role of Noa, a young chimpanzee.

The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is finally here, and both fans and critics have had the opportunity to voice their opinions on the movie and will be able to do it in the upcoming weeks. But, with more fans being able to see the movie, some theories about the characters and their inspirations about them have begun to surface and one of the more popular ones as far as the movie is concerned is the one that the film’s main villain, the ape monarch Proximus Caesar is actually based on controversial businessman Elon Musk.
Many fans have observed similarities between the villain of the film and Musk, leading to many of them believing that Elon Musk was the inspiration behind the character and as it seems, based on what Kevin Durand, the actor who portrayed Proximus Caesar said, it seems that Musk was, indeed, one of the inspirations for the character.

Planet of the Apes franchise is not going to end its run with the fourth film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The producers recently revealed in an interview that the original plan for the franchise was to do nine films. Although many expected the films to drop significantly in quality by this time, the films are surprisingly maintaining a regular good standard. However, fans still believe that aiming for nine films might be stretching the luck of the films.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the fourth installment in the modern Planet of the Apes franchise
The latest film in the franchise was the first one not to feature Andy Serkis in the role of the intelligent chimpanzee. It starred Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, and William H. Macy. The film is written by Josh Friedman and directed by Wes Ball.

Wes Ball's "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" stands on the shoulders of the most recent trilogy that came before it and the legacy of fallen chimpanzee leader, Caesar (Andy Serkis). That trilogy contains some of the strongest entries in the entire series, which meant Ball's venture had huge shoes to fill. Fortunately, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" has already proven to be a critical hit, which has many thinking it could be the start of another trilogy.

Planet of the Apes trilogy, helmed by directors Rupert Wyatt and Matt Reeves, is well regarded as one of the best trilogies in modern cinema. The new installment to the franchise, directed by The Maze Runner’s Wes Ball, is set several generations after Caesar’s reign. Now, apes are the dominant species and live harmoniously, whilst humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. We follow young ape Noa, who undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and future, under the reign of a new tyrannical ape leader. Successfully managing to pay homage to the trilogy whilst delivering something entirely new and standing on its own two feet, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a worthy continuation of the franchise. The performances are great, the visuals are jaw-dropping and the story, whilst taking its time,...

Apes rule in “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” kicking off director Wes Ball’s post-Caesar saga 300 years later. Wētā FX leveraged its tech from the previous “Apes” trilogy and the Oscar-winning “Avatar: The Way of Water” for greater photorealism in their performance capture animation and VFX. This is important because the apes are chattier, and there are more CG action set pieces (33 minutes are entirely digital — a franchise first). It adds up to possibly earning the franchise the VFX Oscar that it’s been denied.
After achieving great on-set facial capture in the rain and snow for director Matt Reeves’ “Dawn” and “War” films, Wētā embraced more expansive environments for “Kingdom” along with more active and expressive apes. In the film, simians have begun developing their own civilization in villages spread throughout the overgrown Pacific Northwest, with decrepit skyscrapers in the distance.

After a seven-year break, the "Planet of the Apes" franchise has finally returned with a new installment, one that takes us much further than seven years into the future. Many generations after the events of the last film, the society left behind means apes now rule, and humans are the sub species. Noa (Owen Teague as a full CGI ape) is part of a tribe who raise birds for hunting and lives in peace. That peace is upended by Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand), King of the Coastal Apes, who accumulates power by destroying other tribes and using the human’s old war technology against his species. When Noa’s tribe becomes victims of destruction, the young ape seeks his revenge with the help of a evolved human named Nova (Freya Allan).

Wes Ball's "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" isn't a reboot of the beloved franchise, nor is it a direct sequel to the most recent trilogy, but instead a standalone sequel set hundreds of years after the time of Caesar, the evolved patriarchal leader played by Andy Serkis. Caesar in this series differs from the character played by Roddy McDowell in the original, as this version sees apes and humans as unlikely equals rather than inherently viewing the latter as subservient, and even lets fellow ape Koba fall to his death for ruining the chance for apes and humans to have peace.

Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is not just an ape story like the Caesar-led Apes trilogy of the 2010s. Kingdom is just as much a human story, and Freya Allan’s Mae is the human in that equation. Centuries after Caesar’s (Andy Serkis) death, Mae first crosses paths with Owen Teague’s young chimpanzee, Noa, as she attempts to survive in the wilderness alone. Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes continues the “Planet of the Apes” science fiction saga that was rebooted from 1968’s The Planet Of The Apes with Charleton Heston into a trilogy that started with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. The last two films in that trilogy, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and War For The Planet Of The Apes, directed by Matt Reeves and starring the great motion-capture actor Andy Serkis as lead ape Caesar, reached soaring, almost Shakespearean, storytelling heights, while also wowing audiences with the realism of its technically advanced motion-capture acting and special effects.

It’s all monkey business at the box office.
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” the latest film in 20th Century Studios’ primate franchise, will rule over the box office this weekend. It’s already made $6.6 million in previews so far.
The new “Apes” movie is the fourth in the modern reboot franchise and the first since 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes.” “Kingdom” is projected to make between $50 million and $55 million in its opening weekend, which is roughly in line with the three previous entries.
The series’ second movie, 2014’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” holds the opening-weekend record with $72 million ($4.1 million in previews); followed by “War for the Planet of the Apes” with its $56.2 million opening ($5 million in previews); and finally the initial 2011 reboot “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” with a $54.8 million opening ($1.3 million in previews).

This article contains spoilers for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
At the end of Planet of the Apes, the human astronaut who strove to understand the strange, simian-occupied planet made a shocking discovery. Horror overwhelms him as he struggles to make sense of the honored American monument before him, now barely recognizable.
Of course, that description can refer to the twist ending of the 1968 sci-fi classic, in which Charlton Heston falls on his knees at the sight of a decimated Statue of Liberty, realizing that he has been on a post-nuclear Earth the whole time. However, it also describes the less loved 2001 Planet of the Apes, directed by Tim Burton. In that film, Mark Wahlberg’s astronaut makes it back to the past only to find an ape version of the Lincoln Monument.
On a narrative level, the ending of 2001 Apes makes no sense, not even to Burton.
