2024’s giving us two films about imaginary friends. If, from writer/director John Krasinski, is light and fluffy, with Ryan Reynolds starring and Steve Carell voicing an imaginary friend. On the opposite end of the imaginary friend spectrum is Lionsgate’s Imaginary. The trailer shows a young girl’s cute stuffed teddy bear wants to be her forever friend, à la Chucky.
Imaginary stars DeWanda Wise (Jurassic World Dominion), Tom Payne (Prodigal Son), Taegen Burns (The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers), and Pyper Braun (Erin & Aaron). Veronica Falcon (A Million Miles Away) and Betty Buckley (Preacher) also star.
“From Blumhouse, the genre-defining masterminds behind Five Nights at Freddy’s and M3GAN, comes an original horror film that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends – and begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath?” reads Lionsgate’s synopsis. “When Jessica (Wise) moves...

We’re just one month away from the March 8th theatrical release date of the horror film Imaginary, the latest team-up between Blumhouse and director Jeff Wadlow – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island. With that date swiftly approaching, a new trailer for Imaginary has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
The film sees DeWanda Wise of Jurassic World: Dominion taking on the role of Jessica, who moves back into her childhood home with her family, and her youngest stepdaughter Alice develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that become increasingly sinister. As Alice’s behavior becomes more concerning, Jessica intervenes, only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believes him to be.
Wadlow wrote the screenplay for Imaginary with Greg Erb and Jason Oremland.

Come out, come out, wherever you are — Chauncey the Teddy Bear wants to play.
The latest installment of Blumhouse’s creepy toys gone astray horror subgenre, “Imaginary” centers on a decades-spanning story of a (possibly) demonic stuffed animal that torments both mother and stepdaughter.
DeWanda Wise stars as Jessica, a mom who moves back into her childhood home, where she is reunited with her old teddy bear. Her stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) has an eerie link to the toy, however, forcing Jessica to reexamine her own traumatic past. Or is it just all in Jessica’s head?
The official synopsis reads: “When Jessica (Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister. As Alice’s...

Exclusive: “The UK’s role in the media multiverse” will take up plenty of airtime at the Rts Cambridge Convention, according to Theresa Wise, as the great-and-the-good of the TV industry prepare to gather for the biannual get-together.
Wise, the Rts CEO for a decade, pointed to huge international players set to keynote the two-day event including CAA Chairman Bryan Lourd and Liberty Global MD Mike Fries. With the industry experiencing tough times as the economic crisis, ad recession and U.S. strikes combine to slow production to a stutter, the UK’s “role in the media multiverse” will be up for discussion, according to Wise, who said speakers will likely tackle the American labor action and its impact on the UK head on.
Lourd will be speaking just a few weeks after French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault agreed to buy a majority stake in CAA. Wise said the CAA Chair...

The pool dude abides.
Somewhere early on in the creative process, Chris Pine and his writing-producing partner Ian Gotler clearly thought they were on to something inspired with Poolman, which seemingly set out to reimagine Chinatown as a Coen brothers movie, with Pine playing the title character — a long-haired, scraggly bearded Zen master of a pool cleaner turned bumbling sleuth. But the end result, also serving as Pine’s directorial debut, goes tonally off the rails from the start and proceeds to hit bottom with excruciating momentum, dragging a game ensemble, including Annette Bening, Danny DeVito and Jennifer Jason Leigh, down for the count.
Given its world premiere at Toronto, where it arrived looking for distribution, this TIFF stiff will likely have a tough time finding a home based on the tepid response from the customarily effusive festival audience.

Exclusive: Leslie Small has been set to direct the buddy comedy Happy V-Day and actioner The Raid, under a two-picture deal with Winter State Entertainment. Prep on both titles is underway, with production dates to be set upon the resolution of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
The deal speaks to the move back into narrative features that Winter State has undertaken, after pivoting to docs during the pandemic.
Written by Winter State principals Hamid and Camille Torabpour, Happy V-Day tells the story of two best friends who look to get vasectomies, at the behest of their wives, together confronting the horrors of “the snip.”
In the modern-day Western The Raid, news of Jesse James’ legendary treasure being found spreads quickly. In grand fashion, the treasure will be returned and displayed during the Jesse James Days festival in Northfield, Mn. However, Austin and his bandits have other plans, making off with...

Warning: This contains spoilers for Not Going Out
Back in 2015, during a BBC Breakfast interview about series seven of Not Going Out, presenter Bill Turnbull asked Lee Mack: “Did you ever imagine when you first got that pilot that you’d get seven series?”
“I didn’t think we’d even get a series,” Mack answers incredulously, explaining that even going from script to a pilot episode felt like “the biggest hurdle”.
And yet, eight years later (17 since the show began in 2006), Not Going Out has now almost doubled its series from seven to 13, still regularly pulling in audiences of over four million, with the newest series arriving on BBC One on Friday 23rd June at 9pm. As ever, the show will focus on Lee Mack as a fictionalised version of himself, alongside his landlady-turned-wife and sparring partner Lucy, and their eventful and often farcical life together.
