The Discarnates.Taichi Yamada’s novel Ijintachi to no natsu (1987)—the title literally translates as Summer of the Strange People; the book was published in English as Strangers—intertwines a tale of loving human connection with a dense meditation on navigating personal history. A screenwriter, Hideo Harada, feels stalled in his life after a divorce; he lives in a mostly uninhabited high-rise where he works in solitude on TV scripts. When visiting his old hometown, Asakusa, he meets a couple who bear a striking resemblance to his long-dead parents, and very soon he realizes these are their ghosts. While this surreal experience pulls him in one direction, his sole neighbor in the building, Kei, pulls him in another, as they begin a romantic relationship. “Weekend” and “Looking” filmmaker Andrew Haigh is back with another soulful examination of love, family and queerness, “All of Us Strangers.” Emmy-nominated “Fleabag” star Andrew Scott and Oscar-nominated “Normal People” and “Aftersun” breakout Paul Mescal star as two men in London, who bond after a chance encounter. Meanwhile, Scott’s Adam encounters his parents in his childhood home — exactly the same as they were the day they died thirty years ago. From there, a surprising and heartbreaking ghost story ensues.
“All of Us Strangers” is a beautiful, haunting film tangled up in the root of identity, where Haigh prods at the intersection of family, culture, sex and love; and the intimacy and aloneness within each. It’s a super personal piece for the filmmaker, it’s poised to be a player in the 2024 awards conversation and it’s finally heading to theaters.

The official website of the ‘AniLoca Fes in Shiga’ project announced the cancellation of the event that was scheduled to take place on Dec 22, 2023, in Shiga Prefecture, due to receiving threatening mails that posed an imminent danger to attendees, performers, and staff.

The threats received outlined disturbing and detailed plans, including violence at a nearby station, arson within the venue, and harm to specific performer associated with Aniloca. The gravity of the situation escalated further as the criminal responsible opened a blog to recruit and incite accomplices.

“All of Us Strangers” kicked off awards season with a sweep of the BIFAs on Sunday. Editor’s note: This review was originally published at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival. Searchlight Pictures releases the film in theaters on Friday, December 22.
God bless British Andrew Haigh, whose best films — “Weekend,” “45 Years,” and now the quietly shattering “All of Us Strangers” — are the rare work of a modern director who knows how to get out of their own way. Haigh’s simple but penetrating dramas couldn’t be more specific in how they depict the strangeness of intimacy and the intimacy of strangeness, and yet they’re also palpably unfilled in a way, like a half-empty room that someone you were looking for just left. In that light, it should come as little surprise that Haigh is so well-suited to an ineffably personal ghost story about the absences that can shape our entire lives if we let them.

The Y2K is back, and it's full of secrets!
For Freeform's upcoming Cruel Summer Season 2, a new time-jumping murder mystery will keep us hooked as it spans over three years. New twists, new romances, and a new cast of characters (or more like suspects!) are just a few pieces making up this salacious and thrilling mystery.
Queen Bee Parker, who Lisa Yamada plays, is one of the suspects in the story. Much of the plot and characters are still a mystery, but if it's anything like Cruel Summer Season 1, we're in for a wild ride.
Below, we got the chance to chat with Yamada before the season premieres on June 5. We talked about all things Parker, some hints about what's coming up in the new story, and her love of living the Y2K fantasy.
Check out the interview below!

"Cruel Summer" Season 2 Is Full of Twists and Turns: "[Fans Will] Be Really Surprised by the Ending"
Nothing is quite as it seems in season two of "Cruel Summer." Freeform's breakout anthology series officially returns this summer with a new mystery and a fresh cast led by "Little Fires Everywhere" star Lexi Underwood, Disney's Sadie Stanley, and "Locke & Key"'s Griffin Gluck. Set in a small Pacific Northwest town, the second installment centers on a complicated love triangle between friends Megan Landry (Stanley), Isabella Larue (Underwood), and Luke Chambers (Gluck) and a mysterious incident that changes their lives forever.
"I don't want to spoil anything, but the mystery is going to be very hard to move on from," Stanley tells Popsugar. "The events that happen are life-changing. The stakes are really high this season." Though it follows a completely new storyline, similar to the first season, the second chapter is told through three different timelines surrounding Y2K, which is part of what drew Stanley...
