A new Chicago P.D. episode is finally going to feature Officer Dante Torres.
The energetic Intelligence member had been furloughed to open the season, with the writers explaining that Torres was with his mom.
His absence was glaring, especially since the team still misses Detective Jay Halstead (played by Jesse Lee Soffer).
Actor Benjamin Levy Aguilar joined the Chicago P.D. cast while Halstead was still around, but he became integral in Halstead’s absence during Season 10.
Chicago P.D. Season 11 began without Torres, as the writers focused on other characters to carry the stories.
The Chicago P.D. season premiere focused on Detective Hailey Upton, the second episode was about Officer Adam Ruzek and his struggles to return to work, and the January 31 episode featured Office Kim Burgess.
Now it’s finally Torres time.

The 90 Day Fiance franchise has gone from strength to strength over the last five years and isn’t slowing down.
With anticipation building for 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? Season 8, it’s hard not to be a little skeptical.
More than other franchise entries, the series likes to keep many of the same faces each season.
The result leaves a bad taste because, more often than not, the arguments feel manufactured to secure a spot the following season.
The critical element of the series should be to highlight the more authentic couples having issues in their relationships.
As viewers, watching them work through those issues shows their relationship has a solid foundation. Having the same arguments each season just doesn’t make the show worthwhile.
Check out the couples who need to move on from the series.
Elizabeth Potthast and Andrei Castravet’s drama feels manufactured

Oaks appear 14 times in the King James Version. A place of nourishment, a place of offering, for angels and idols alike, a place of shelter, for Absalom the sometimes favoured son a place of betrayal. I go to the Bible for The Old Oak because it transpires as a series of didactic vignettes, something timeless in its testimonies. That name for pubs not uncommon, often believed to be adapted from The Royal Oak. That tree too gave succour, that Charles from Cromwell after the battle of Worcester. A different English Civil War than the one in Ken Loach's most recent film.
'Civil war' carefully. The story, such as it is, the story of a pub, a place, specifically two within it. Tj, portrayed by Dave Turner, Yara, by Ebla Mari. Loach often uses nontraditional actors, untrained, the proximate, and in that sense moments in the Old Oak are perhaps more.

For his allegedly final feature, esteemed kitchen sink surfer/social realist Ken Loach takes us to the North of England, 2016 to tell the tale of Yara (Elba Mari), a twenty-something Syrian refugee with a passion for photography who travels to the UK with her family to escape her war torn country. Upon arrival, Yara and family are rehoused in an old mining village but met with hostility from racist locals. Yara then meets and befriends pub landlord/handyman Tommy J. Ballantyne (Dave Turner), who welcomes her to the village and sets out to mend local community fissures, despite retaliation from his prejudiced pub regulars.
Regular Ken Loach writer/collaborator Paul Laverty’s screenplay charts Yara and Tommy’s attempt to disentangle the socio-economic/political division in the community born from bigotry and financial hardships, to strive for solidarity. The village adversities at the root of the locals’ despair are partly...

Sitting in Bars With Cake takes inspiration from the real-life story of author and baker Audrey Shulman, who, on one fine day in 2013, decided to take cakes to bars in hopes of finding a ‘sweet’ boyfriend. In theory, Sitting in Bars With Cake sounds right up my alley. Not only do I love a good slice-of-life film, but I also love me some cake, especially if it means crying about a friendship on the screen. I will admit, it’s not the most riveting concept, but it’s got some intrigue to it anyway. I went into this movie expecting (and hoping) to bawl my eyes out, but shockingly enough, barring a lump in my throat on some occasions, there was no real crying. Along with a superstar director, Trish-Sie, the movie stars performers like Yara Shahidi and Odessa A’zion in pivotal roles.

HBO‘s The Last of Us could be the beginning of something much more significant for the network. Development on the second season is already underway, but could there be more in the pipeline? According to The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin, spin-offs could happen. However, extensive talks should take place about how an expansion to the world would enrich the world and its characters.
“We haven’t talked about that specifically because we’re so focused on just telling this main narrative,” Mazin told The Wrap about creating spin-offs. “I’m not against the idea of other shows that may draw from these characters or that world.”
Speaking about his contribution to the franchise, Mazin continued, “I don’t know how much more The Last of Us I personally would be able to do. I mean, these shows are so big, I’m sort of burning one of...

When TLC officially announced 90 Day: Last Resort earlier this month, there was a glaring omission:
The cast.
The series charts five couples on the brink of splitting up as they escape to a resort to discuss their differences.
TLC on Friday confirmed the first two couples participating, and they're polarizing for sure.
First up are Jovi and Yara, who have made countless appearances across the franchise over the last few years.
"Jovi & Yara are very much in love with an undeniable attraction for one another, but over time resentment has grown and created an emotional divide," the description for their storyline teases.
"At the resort, they discover there is discord between them as they can't seem to agree on what they want for their future."
"While both have secrets they are holding onto, will the resort provide a place and time where they can finally thrive and reconnect as a couple moving forward?...

Exclusive: Zeitgeist Films and Kino Lorber have acquired all U.S. rights to Ken Loach’s Cannes Competition entry The Old Oak, which has been mooted to be the veteran filmmaker’s last movie.
The Old Oak, which has a screenplay from Loach’s frequent collaborator Paul Laverty, will open theatrically in early 2024 at Film Forum in New York with a national release set to follow.
The movie revolves around The Old Oak, the last standing pub in a once thriving mining village in northern England, and a gathering space for a community that has fallen on hard times. There is growing anger, resentment, and a lack of hope among the residents, but the pub and its proprietor Tj are a fond presence to their customers. When a group of Syrian refugees move into the floundering village, a decisive rift fueled by prejudices develops between the community and its newest inhabitants.

While the film is still seeking U.S. distribution, it’ll arrive in the U.K. at the end of September and now the first trailer has arrived.

Tj Ballantyne (Dave Turner) the landlord hangs on to The Old Oak by his fingertips, and his predicament is endangered even more when the pub becomes contested territory after the arrival of Syrian refugees who are placed in the village without any notice.
In an unlikely friendship, Tj meets a curious young Syrian Yara (Ebla Mari) with her camera. Can they find a way for the two communities to understand each other? So unfolds a deeply moving drama about their fragilities and hopes.

Human Resources is an adult animated series created by Jennifer Flackett, Kelly Galuska, Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll and Mark Levin.
From the “wicked” world of Big Mouth comes the second season of this very badass series that turns this (professional) mischief into something fun, at least for a few minutes. Whether one gets tired of it or not is up to the viewer.
Human Resources
Absurd and crude, great in some of its dialogues, reflective… Human Resources continues with its tone of ludicrous parody that mixes The Office with Big Mouth itself and that, yes, manages to amuse in a South Park style, with that humor that you either love or hate but that, at least, has the honesty to try, in its provocative style, many times, just for the sake of it.
And other times, perhaps not by chance, in that provocation it finds the perfect formula to tell us something totally coherent.

In The Old Oak, an English man and a Syrian woman become unlikely friends on one side of a simmering culture war. It’s the latest from Ken Loach and, if reports are true, it will be the 86-year-old director’s last. The Old Oak is, of course, a timely story about modern Britain, immigration, and xenophobia. It’s also a parting statement from Loach––one last rallying cry for solidarity––and a fitting coda to his six-decade long career.
It’s hard to imagine that Loach first made his name in 1964: viewers who watched Cathy Come Home on the BBC that week could have seen “Good Vibrations” go to number 1 on Top of The Pops. Seen by a quarter of the population, it in fact did change British attitudes towards homelessness. Occasionally to the point of self-parody, Loach has never stopped making that kind of film: stories purpose-built...

In “The Old Oak,” which played in Competition in Cannes, Ken Loach portrays a village in the North-East of England where the indigenous white community comes into conflict with Syrian refugees – a conflict fuelled by the despair, deprivation and decline of the rust-belt region. Such conditions can be a seed-bed for far right groups, the director tells Variety.
Such issues have not been explored sufficiently in film and television, Loach says, and he draws a parallel with the portrayal of the rise of Nazism in Germany in the mass media.
“We have endless programs about the Second World War, about the horrors of Nazism and fascism, about the racism, about the Holocaust. Quite properly, we have endless programs about that, but what they refuse to point out is that that arose from alienation, anger, feeling cheated, and finding scapegoats. And that’s how we ended up with Hitler, and that...

Ken Loach still has more to say against The Man in society with his cinema, that was clear coming away from the Cannes press conference for his latest movie The Old Oak.
We asked Loach if the reports are true; whether The Old Oak is truly his finale. Answered the director, “One day at a time. If you get up in the morning, and you’re not in the obituary column; one day at a time.”
The 87-year old Loach told THR back in April, “realistically, it would be hard to do a feature film again” given that “your facilities do decline. Your short-term memory goes and my eyesight is pretty rubbish now, so it’s quite tricky.”
However, Loach emphasized today how important it is for cinema, especially with the younger filmmakers, to stay vibrant as the artform puts people of power in check.

Tommy Joe Ballantyne (Dave Turner), the central character in Ken Loach’s “The Old Oak,” is a middle-aged landlord and proprietor of a pub that sits near the bottom of a sloped street of working-class row houses. We’re in an unnamed village in the northeast of England, and the pub, called the Old Oak, has seen better days. So has Tommy, who’s known as Tj. Dave Turner, the very good actor who plays him, resembles a bone-weary cross between John C. Reilly and Michael Moore. There’s a sweet-souled directness to his sad prole stare, and he treats his customers, some of whom he has known since they were in grade school together, with quiet affection and respect. But the pub is falling apart, and the property values in the neighborhood have plunged. Tj is barely scraping by serving pints of ale.

British director Ken Loach has always had his finger on the pulse of his country’s simmering socioeconomic situation, especially when it concerns the plight of the working class. It’s no surprise, then, that for his latest feature — the 27th for the 86-year-old filmmaker, who made his first movie, Poor Cow, all the way back in 1967 — he’s decided to tackle two issues not only at the forefront of U.K. politics, but most of Europe and the U.S. as well.
Compassionate if a bit schematic at times, The Old Oak is a ripped-from-the-headlines story about Syrian refugees arriving in a failing blue-collar town in northern England, and the anger it provokes among certain residents looking for a scapegoat to pin their problems on. You could make virtually the same movie about Central Americans arriving in Texas, or Sub-Saharan Africans arriving in France, so much are immigration and...

What could well be Ken Loach’s final film has as much fire and fury as his debut Poor Cow did in 1967, if we discount his pioneering TV work in the run-up. The visual style hasn’t changed a great deal in the years since, but that’s because the British movie veteran, soon to turn 87, isn’t much fussed about surfaces, it’s the inner lives of his characters that he wants to capture. In that respect, The Old Oak would make a fitting swansong, capping the recent North-East trilogy with a vital film that is clearly the work of the team behind previous Cannes Competition hits I, Daniel Blake and Sorry We Missed You.

Ebla Mari has a confession. Before she was approached for the lead role in Ken Loach’s latest (and quite possibly, last) film The Old Oak, she says she was “ashamed” to say she didn’t know who the director was.
Not that the 25-year-old really had any reason to.
As a Syrian theater teacher in the village of Majdal Shams, part of the Golan Heights that has been under Israeli military occupation since the six-day war of 1967, and with no previous screen experience, it’s understandable if Loach’s body of work — largely focussed on the troubles within U.K. society — may have passed her by. But Mari soon caught up.
In The Old Oak, she plays Yara, a Syrian refugee and recent U.K. arrival shipped off with her family to a former mining town in the northeast of England and into the center of a community torn...

The Old Oak is about the rehousing of a group of Syrian refugees in a run-down former mining town
It’s June 2022, a week of rail workers’ strikes are under way and refugees are in the news whether arriving from Ukraine or via boats across the channel despite the threat of transportation to Rwanda. Ken Loach and his old compadres, writer Paul Laverty and producer Rebecca O’Brien, could not have chosen a more pertinent time for shooting their latest film, The Old Oak, which premieres at the Cannes film festival this month.
The story is set in an anonymous former mining town decades after the pit closures. Shops are boarded up, money is scarce, divisions over the 1984 miners’ strike linger. There is still a pub, the eponymous Old Oak, run by a former miner, Tj Ballantyne, played by Dave Turner, but it is on its last legs, kept afloat by...

Yara Shahidi will be honored with the Youth Empowerment Award during The Cameron Boyce Foundation’s The Cam for a Cause Gala this June in Los Angeles.
Shahidi, who currently stars in Grown-ish and recently appeared as Tinkerbell in Disney+’s Peter Pan & Wendy, will be celebrated for her activism surrounding Stem awareness, women’s rights, civil rights and her countless acts of kindness towards others, according to the foundation. She is slated to receive the first iteration of the award at the second annual gala on June 1.
The event, which was established last year by the late actor Cameron Boyce’s parents, raises funds and awareness for epilepsy. (Boyce died in 2019 at the age of 20 due to sudden unexpected death in epilepsy following a seizure.)

Are you ready for a new mystery, Cruel Summer fans?
Freeform finally announced a premiere date for the highly-anticipated second season on Monday.
Cruel Summer Season 2 will get underway Monday, June 5 at 9/8c with two back-to-back episodes.
The series will then move to its regular 10 pm timeslot for the remainder of the season.
The decision to keep the show at 10 pm is surprising because Cruel Summer Season 1 was one of the buzziest shows of 2021.
Granted, the show dominated when delayed viewing was factored in, so perhaps the cabler is expecting more of the same this season.
"Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter of Cruel Summer follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship," the logline teases.
"Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan's best friend Luke,...

Fans have watched Yara Shahidi's "Black-ish" character, Zoey Johnson, grow up on our screens for nearly nine years - first in three seasons of the ABC show, and then through five seasons of its Freeform spinoff "Grown-ish."
