After getting in on the action game with Nobody, Bob Odenkirk is ready to “get his ass handed to him” once again.
It was announced last week that Bob Odenkirk would be reuniting with Nobdody screenwriter Derek Kolstad for Normal, a new action movie set to be directed by Ben Wheatley (Free Fire). While speaking with THR, Odenkirk explained why he wanted to tackle another action movie.
“Well, it went pretty well [last time], didn’t it? Derek is the most collaborative screenwriter I’ve ever worked with,” Odenkirk said. “His willingness to hear a note from anybody at any point in the process is amazing. He listens to everybody and when he says ‘best idea wins,’ he really means it. I’m going to guess it has to do with his personality, but also from getting beat up for years [in this industry]. Making Nobody was just a great experience, everyone really gave their all on that one,...

Bob Odenkirk is ready to, as he puts it, “get his ass handed to him.” The Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star is reteaming with Derek Kolstad, screenwriter on 2021’s Nobody, on a new action film, Normal, which is among the hottest projects being shopped to buyers at the European Film Market in chilly Berlin this week (by WME Independent).
Ben Wheatley (Meg 2: The Trench, Free Fire) is on board to direct the film, which will star Odenkirk as Ulysses, a temporary sheriff in the sleepy rust belt town of Normal who gets caught up in a deep criminal conspiracy. Kolstad, who also penned the John Wick franchise, will produce together with Odenkirk and Normal producer Marc Provissiero, with Josh Adler from Circle of Confusion as executive producer.
Nobody transformed Odenkirk into an unlikely action star, playing Hutch Mansell, a humdrum family man with a secret past as a professional assassin.

Seemingly freed from the Marvel machine, Ryan Coogler is set to reunite with Michael B. Jordan on a new project, recently picked up by Warner Bros. THR reports the period thriller will feature the undead, and potentially take place in Jim Crow-era South. While other details are under wraps, there are reports it will feature anime influences and has franchise potential. Production will kick off this April in New Orleans, so expect to learn much more soon.

Following 2020’s Nobody, Bob Odenkirk will once again be bringing a script by John Wick writer Derek Kolstad to life with Normal – a tale of a small-town sheriff sucked into a vast criminal conspiracy.
Given how popular his performances were in the hit TV show Breaking Bad, fans had long clamoured for Bob Odenkirk to be given bigger and juicier onscreen roles in the wake of that show and its Odenkirk-centric spin-off, Better Caul Saul.
They weren’t the only ones either: Odenkirk himself was spoiling to headline a film project, and perhaps surprisingly, was keen to try his hand at the action genre. The result was 2021’s Nobody, written by John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad and featuring Odenkirk as an unlikely lead in a movie full of brawls, bruises and Christopher Lloyd. We really enjoyed it and we weren’t alone either.

Are we officially at the point where we can say that, other than maybe the great Giancarlo Esposito, no other actor is enjoying a better post-"Breaking Bad"/"Better Call Saul" universe career than Bob Odenkirk? Best known for playing the criminal lawyer Saul Goodman/Jimmy McGill, Odenkirk could've easily taken his foot off the gas pedal and coasted on the good will (and residual checks!) from starring in two of the best shows of the 21st Century. Instead, the talented actor has made a point to go with the exact opposite approach.
After making time for fantastic supporting turns in Steven Spielberg's "The Post" and Greta Gerwig's "Little Women" followed by his unexpected swerve into action leading man territory in 2021's "Nobody," Odenkirk is now setting his sights on an even more attention-grabbing collaboration. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will join forces with director Ben Wheatley ("High-Rise,...

Here's a combo we're not sure we anticipated — but we're very glad will exist. Ben Wheatley, the genre-hopping filmmaker who went from the likes of Kill List and High Rise to Rebecca and Meg 2: The Trench is aboard to direct a new action thriller starring Bob Odenkirk, who when he's not been busy playing Saul Goodman on small screens, took to cinemas back in 2021 with tough-nut film Nobody. They're teaming up for the film Normal.
And the new movie also sees Odenkirk back working with John Wick veteran (and Nobody writer) Derek Kolstad, who has written the script. The official synopsis reads, "Normal follows Ulysses (Odenkirk), who is thrust into the temporary role of the sheriff for the small sleepy town Normal after the previous one’s untimely death. When the town’s bank is robbed by an out-of-town couple, Ulysses arrives on the scene to find that the...

Bob Odenkirk’s career has taken a unique path. Although he started in the comedy world, he would take his already-acclaimed career to new heights when he played Saul Goodman on the immensely popular series, Breaking Bad. And while shows like that and Better Call Saul still played on his comedy strengths, Odenkirk would go for something different when he starred in the action film, Nobody, which came from the writer and stunt crew who brought us John Wick.
According to Deadline, Odenkirk is set to work with Nobody screenwriter Derek Kolstad again on a new project that is going to be helmed by Free Fire and High Rise director Ben Wheatley. The film is titled Normal and “follows Ulysses (Odenkirk), who is thrust into the temporary role of the sheriff for the small sleepy town Normal after the previous one’s untimely death. The script, written by Kolstad, follows Ulysses (Odenkirk), who is thrust into the temporary role of the sheriff for the small sleepy town Normal after the previous one’s untimely death. When the town’s bank is robbed by an out-of-town couple, Ulysses arrives on the scene to find that the town is hiding much more sinister deep-seated secrets under its surface and everyone – from the bartender to the priest – is in on it. Bob Odenkirk is re-teaming with Nobody writer Derek Kolstad on Normal, a crime thriller in which the Better Call Saul star will again take on the unlikely role of action hero.

Sony Pictures Television plans to shop “The Afterparty” to other platforms in light of the cancellation, an individual with knowledge said.
In the second season, a wedding is ruined when the groom (Zach Woods) is found dead in bed. Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “The Afterparty,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
Instead of deciding on who would make the perfect killer, the writers of Season 2 of “The Afterparty” began their journey by selecting a murder weapon.
“It started with thinking that it should be poison, and then thinking that the glass of the poison goes on a journey and doesn’t reach its intended target,” says series creator Chris Miller. “That would help us create a character who doesn’t have an obvious motive to kill the victim, but then we would need that character to have another secret or murder that’s intended. And what could that be?”
Season 2 followed Aniq (Sam Richardson), Zoë (Zoe Chao) and Detective Danner (Tiffany Haddish) as they find themselves embroiled in a new murder investigation: that of Edgar Minnows (Zach Woods), the husband of Zoë’s...

[This story contains spoilers from the season two finale of The Afterparty, “Vivian and Zoë.”]
In the season two finale of The Afterparty, viewers learn two things about the killer and one about the deceased, Edgar, the groom. Let’s start with the latter.
Edgar (Zach Woods) went around the world to find the globetrotting uncle, Ulysses (John Cho), of his bride-to-be Grace (Poppy Liu). But Ulysses wants no part of the wedding. Why? Because at the wedding will be his forbidden love that he’s traveled around the world to forget about, Vivian (Vivian Wu), the wife of his half-brother Feng (Ken Jeong). Edgar, however, forces Ulysses’ hand and makes him attend.
Edgar learned the hard way, however, that it’s best to leave people alone and that no means no — as audience members of the Apple TV+ series found out in the end that Ulysses is Edgar’s murderer (although, not intentionally). What Ulysses didn’t count on when attending the wedding was that,...

If you paid attention to Season 1 of “The Afterparty,” the answer was obvious.
The high school reunion murder of Xavier (Dave Franco) at the hands of a classmate introduced viewers to Christopher Miller’s multigenre Apple TV+ series, in which each suspect recounts the night’s events as they experienced it. The murderer turned out to be the one with the most outlandish, exaggerated, and discrepant story of the bunch: Yasper (Ben Schwartz), who viewed the night as a wish-fulfilling musical.
Yasper was motivated by jealousy and revenge, the same emotions shared by Xavier’s other classmates but in comparatively low doses and without the means and opportunity. In Season 2 there’s a helluva lot of truly murderous motive; the unfaithful wife, the financially doomed father-in-law, the jealous sister, the gaslit mother, the disgraced business partner. After nine episodes, there was no obvious liar...

When everyone in the room has a motive to kill a person, who would one look at, the crowd of suspects or the dead? To figure out the answers to the big questions, we must first do a quick recap of the events of the weekend when Edgar died. Little did successful businessman Edgar Minnows know that he would be murdered at the afterparty of his own wedding (you know what we mean). A man who had a knack for cryptocurrency and a lizard for a companion found the love of his life in Grace, Zoe’s younger sister. Her love for antiques and offbeat things brought them together, but due to Edgar’s busy schedule, Grace felt neglected and got close to his adopted sister, Hannah. Interestingly, they don’t really share anything in common, with Grace being a vintage girlie and Edgar being a man of the present and the future.

When I first saw an actor of John Cho’s stature in the second season of Apple TV’s The Afterparty, I sensed the makers were up to something. Not that Cho’s casting was surprising, as the South Korean-born veteran actor has been in films and shows of many genres, but taking someone like Cho in a show like The Afterparty is a risky move as the audience is bound to think that the killer has to be the character that is being played by the most popular face. However, as the season went on, Cho’s character, Ulysses, proved to be the strangest among the bunch and, essentially, the least likely to be the actual murderer. But in the end, it was Ulysses who turned out to be the one who did it.

The final episode of The Afterparty season 2 stands out as one of the season’s highlights. It features notable guest appearances and an intriguing conclusion that provides a genuinely happy ending. In typical The Afterparty fashion, the episode maintains a sense of mystery and suspense regarding Edgar’s murder, but it adds a twist that has been subtly hinted at throughout the season. The season 2 finale primarily revolves around Zoe and Vivian’s storylines and effectively connects various plot elements from earlier episodes. Danner and Aniq’s partnership, as always, proves to be a winning formula and delivers a satisfying conclusion to the season. Let’s delve into the episode’s details quickly.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens In The Episode?
The police have arrived at the scene, and Danner and Aniq find themselves running out of time. They’re disheartened by the lack of a suspect and the inconclusive nature of their investigation.

But when old friends Phil Lord and Christopher Miller invited the 40-year-old helmer to direct what he was told would be one of the most complex and challenging episodes of the second season of The Afterparty — Apple TV+’s whodunnit murder mystery series — he tells The Hollywood Reporter that a more dramatic approach was needed to get to the core of the funny.
How serious can directing comedy get? Atencio breaks it down for The Hollywood Reporter in a recent Zoom interview.

"We're friends... right??" Good Deed Ent. has released an official trailer for a strange little indie film titled Little Jar, the second feature (after 3 Tickets to Paradise) made by filmmaker Dominic López. This first premiered at the 2022 Austin Film Festival last fall, and it also played at last year's Whistler Film Festival and Paris Film Festival earlier this year. Ainsley is a misanthrope who hates people but when she suddenly finds herself in isolation with no one to talk to, she realizes how much she actually misses connection. Enter Ulysses – a dead mouse in a jar. With a little bit of loneliness, a pinch of imagination, and a mouse-sized tuxedo, Ulysses becomes her training wheels in this newly discovered world of friendship. Starring Kelsey Gunn, Nicholas Anthony Reid, Jon Snow, Anthony Ma, Jennifer DeFilippo, and Doug Hurley. This looks super silly and awkward and amusing, though I see what they're...

Outlander has consistently entertained audiences with its gripping storylines. But those who have read Diana Gabaldon’s original books know that the adaptation has taken some liberties, creating unique twists on screen.
Whether altering characters or modifying key plot details, these changes have brought new dimensions to the tale, for better or worse. Here’s a closer look at the six times Outlander has made major changes from the books.
Jamie and Claire’s Battle of Culloden scars
As the Battle of Culloden loomed just moments away, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) faced the necessity of returning to the future. But at that moment, she was consumed by a desperate need to hold onto the memory of Jaime (Sam Heughan), seemingly destined to perish in the impending conflict.
Within the book’s pages, the characters etch their initials into each other’s hands, providing a tangible memento of their connection.
However, in the television adaptation,...

The Afterparty ends in 2 more weeks, and episode 8 “takes the cake” for giving the most clues this season. Still, we’re far from solving the mystery; of course, the killer will be revealed in the finale. Sebastian is completely missing from this episode, raising more suspicions against him. Zoe and Grace are in for some news, and it’s finally time to accept certain things that people have been hiding for a long time. Danner seems to find her own leads, and Aniq is too busy trying to figure out how to deal with everything Ulysses has told him. Let’s quickly dive into Feng’s Tiktok star’s point of view.

What Happens In The Episode?
Episode 8 of The Afterparty Season 2 begins with Zoe trying to connect with Kyler, the camera guy at the wedding. Kyler is a local TikTok star, and Feng had him on board...

The latest episode of The Afterparty Season 2 plays out like a dramatic ballad about a man’s love for a forbidden maiden. The show seems to be interested in acting out tropes but fails to entertain in any way in terms of being comical around those tropes. This episode revolves around Ulysses’ point of view and why he had to be a world traveler all this time. Considering he’s known as funcle or fun-uncle, you’d expect the episode to be a little more fun, but it’s still one of the better of the series. As we get closer to the end of the show, it seems more like the whole thing was an accident, but we’ll see if Sebastian is still our guy.

Diverting from its main plot, episode 6 of season 2 of The Afterparty focuses on Danner and why she decided to quit being a detective and become a writer. What we know is that she became famous for writing a book on Xavier’s case, but now she hasn’t done anything in a long time. In all honesty, because it’s one episode a week, I had actually forgotten Danner had quit the force because she was being a natural at the detective thing again. We finally get some insight into what happened, but in a rather boring manner. The Afterparty was a good one-season show, and Xavier’s story was more enticing because it really felt like a good old-fashioned “whodunit.” Season 2 is a lot slower and less exciting. Although some of the characters are more fun than others, there’s nothing that makes me want to sit through four...

The new episode of The Afterparty follows the events leading up to Edgar’s murder from Hannah’s point of view. The episode is definitely Wes Anderson-coded and may be one of the more entertaining ones of the season. It’s possible Edgar died accidentally and was, in fact, never murdered, but we’ll see about that only at the end of the season. We left off with Travis claiming that Hannah was interested in breaking off the wedding, and that seems like a clear motive to make her the next suspect for Aniq and Danner. It looks like Zoe is keen on blaming Hannah, specifically to take the suspicion off of Grace, but is Hannah the killer? Let’s find out in episode 4 of The Afterparty.

The comedy show The Afterparty, starring Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, and Zoe Chao, has returned to grace our screens with a new season and a new murder. Now, he plans on taking things to the next step and proposing to her, but will the family like him? Let’s get into Aniq’s sequel.

How great was “The Afterparty?” Chris Miller’s Apple comedy in which murder suspects retell one fateful night in multiple genres became a breakout hit in 2022, renewed for an unexpected yet welcome second season. The new installment premieres Wednesday with two episodes that introduce a new cast, murder, and genres — not quite as exceptional as Season 1, but still enjoyable.
Returning to the scene of the crime are Sam Richardson as Aniq, Tiffany Haddish as now-former detective Danner, and Zoë Chao as Zoe, a year into dating Aniq and taking him to her younger sister Grace’s (Poppy Liu) wedding. When groom Edgar (Zach Woods) is found dead the morning after the ceremony (and shockingly muted after party), Aniq and Danner team up to speak with the eclectic inner circle of guests and find Edgar’s killer.

In “A Child’s Question (July),” Pj Harvey sings in a jaunty rhythm, “Who’s inneath the Ooser-Rod?/Horny devil? Goaty God?”
The words sound playful as her guitar swells liquidly around her voice, and the couplet goes by so mellifluously, chased by whispers and chirping birds, that it’s easy go with the flow without wondering just what the heck an Ooser-Rod is. But when you look up the words’ meaning in Orlam — the novel in verse Harvey released last year, which she wrote in the dying (or maybe dead) dialect of the Dorset,...

Luther’s back. Being banged up at the end of Series 5 didn’t stop that growly genius from taking on a new case and a new villain in Bond-inspired Netflix movie The Fallen Sun. And, since most of his former colleagues were spectacularly killed in the line of duty, the man’s being joined by a fresh cast.
Dermot Crowley returns as John Luther’s former boss Dsu Martin Schenk, who’s joined by Cynthia Erivo as Luther’s replacement on the team, and far from his biggest fan. Going toe-to-toe with Idris Elba’s John will be Andy Serkis as surveillance tech billionaire David Robey, possibly the detective’s darkest foe yet.
And what of Ruth Wilson’s Alice, last seen taking a short drop off a tall tower? She’s not listed among the cast this time, but there’s no saying that wily brainbox won’t find...

[This story contains spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania]
From Ulysses to Macbeth, Corey Stoll has been doing Shakespearean work for the entirety of his acting career, and despite the outlandish exterior, his MCU return as Modok in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania doesn’t fall far from the tree. In Ant-Man (2015), Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang banished Stoll’s villain, Darren Cross/Yellowjacket, to the Quantum Realm, where Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), as of the threequel, transformed him into Modok, a Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing.
At the end of Quantumania, Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) delivered a personal appeal to whatever was left of Darren inside Modok, which inspired him to turn on Kang in favor of the Lang, Pym and van Dyne family. As a result, Darren/Modok met their end in one of the film’s most amusing scenes, and for Stoll, the scene takes inspiration from one of Shakespeare’s most famous works.

Squared Love All Over Again (Miłość do kwadratu jeszcze raz) is a movie directed by Filip Zylber starring Adrianna Chlebicka and Mateusz Banasiuk..
In this second part of Squared Love we continue where we left off and go on more or less as expected, trying to turn over the screenplay and say “nothing new here” and will try, using the same framework, to make it work.
And, using these same frameworks, it didn´t work the first time around and doesn´t work the second time.
However, this is a movie that divides specialized reviewers and the audience: The first one was totally profitable.
Storyline
A famous journalist and a fashion model teacher try to redo their lives and return to their jobs after a passionate relationship. When they return, they discover that things have changed, forever?

Since its premiere, True Believers have been raving about "Werewolf By Night." One of the major points of praise is that the Marvel Studios' Special Presentation feels disconnected from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as opposed to the rest of the offerings in Phase Four. In other words, it required less "homework" for those looking for a taste of the MCU rather than a whole multi-course meal that requires all the cutlery and utensils in the fine dining set.
But what if famed composer Michael Giacchino's ode to classic monster movies starring Gael Garcia Bernal was more connected than you think? After all, there was one thing throughout the whole story that was presented in color (until the very end) and that thing seemed to be incredibly important. And we're not just talking about its importance to the monster hunters gathered at Castle Bloodstone. What if the...

Directed by Michael Giacchino, better known as the composer responsible for exceptional scores like those for "The Batman" and 2009's "Star Trek," "Werewolf by Night" is not your standard Marvel fare. That's clear from the opening credits, which unfold in a moody black and white, and are interspersed with violent claw slashes and crackling lightning bolts reminiscent of James Whale's "Frankenstein."
Marvel has dipped its toe into horror before, namely with the gleeful gore of "Blade" and Sam Raimi's chillingly macabre "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness." Accordingly, "Werewolf by Night" feels like an affectionate love letter to the classic creature features of yore. Its premise is simple: Famed monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone has shuffled from this mortal coil, leaving his position vacant and his magical artifact up for grabs. A group of fellow monster slayers are invited by Ulysses' widow to compete for his title, which...

Disney+ had fans howling at the Moon on October 7, as Werewolf by Night made its bloody debut as the first Marvel Studios Special Presentation. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is embracing its dark side, and while Werewolf by Night isn’t quite the R-rated splatterfest it could be, its homages to horror make it a monster mash for the ages that introduces some major players to the MCU.
As the name suggests, the focus of Werewolf by Night is Gael García Bernal’s Jack Russell (not the dog), who plays the titular wolfman. Also along for the ride are Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly) and the long-awaited MCU arrival of Man-Thing. With Werewolf by Night boasting an impressive body count, don’t expect too many of its characters to return, however, a well-hidden Easter egg hints that Jack and Elsa could have some bad blood if they meet again.

This post contains light spoilers for Werewolf by Night.
If you’ve been watching She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, you know that the MCU likes to dig deep into the decades-long backlog of Marvel Comics to find weird and obscure characters, including Mr. Immortal, El Aguila, and Porcupine. The upcoming Halloween special Werewolf by Night seems like a continuation of that approach, pushing lesser-known wolfman character Jack Russell to the forefront. But while Russell is certainly a C-list Marvel hero, at least he headlined his own comic for a while in the 1970s. The same cannot be said for the character who provides the emotional spine for the Werewolf by Night special, Elsa Bloodstone.
The scion of the Bloodstone monster hunters, Elsa has made a name for herself in cult comics such as Nextwave: Agents of Hate and Monsters Unleashed. But those comics only scratch the surface of the character’s depth,...

After no less than 15 Phase Four MCU projects, Marvel’s Werewolf By Night has arrived on Disney+ as a one-off curiosity, and the “special presentation”, directed by acclaimed composer Michael Giacchino, is refreshingly free from many of the pressures associated with Marvel’s other live-action TV endeavors.
There’s been no mandate to stretch this tale out over six-to-nine episodes. There’s little in the way of reliance on CG or green screen effects. Nor is there any urge to connect the plot to upcoming MCU stories. It simply is. That feels like a smart choice for this entry into the cinematic universe, which has been struggling to find its feet since wrapping The Infinity Saga in 2019.
The action centers on Gael García Bernal’s Jack Russell – bless them for unashamedly sticking with the original name – a sweet-natured lycanthrope in control of his inner monster,...

No, consider this an appetizer, a tasty ‘nosh if you will since it’s not quite a feature and it’s too long to really be considered a “short subject’ at a brisk 52 minutes. Plot: A secret group of monster hunters gather at Bloodstone Manor following the death of their leader and engage in a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic, which will bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.
Review: Billed as a special presentation, Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night is in fact a standalone story that is too short to be a feature film and not long enough to be a series. Instead, it is about the length of a single episode of television but packs enough material to serve as the template for Marvel Studios to pump out any number of stories that don’t quite fit the bill for a movie or a show. The experiment works as Werewolf by Night is a blast from start to finish that allows Marvel Studios to play with more unusual aspects of their comic book source material without being dependent on massive budgets.

Marvel finally lets superheroes sit in the shadows and brings monsters center stage with their new Disney + special, “Werewolf by Night.” Filmed primarily in black and white, audiences are immersed in a gothic atmosphere for one night that is filled with violence and vengeance. Director Michael Giacchino channels his adolescent love of “Creature Double Feature” and “The Twilight Zone” by partnering with writers Heather Quinn and Peter Cameron to create one of the most intriguing Marvel projects to date.
Ulysses Bloodstone, a renowned monster hunter, has passed and his widow has summoned the best monster hunters from all over to pay their respects. Among them is Jack Russell (Gael García Bernal) and Ulysses’ estranged daughter Elsa (Laura Donnelly). The animated corpse of Ulysses reveals the crew is actually there to fight for the role of the ruby-red bloodstone’s new owner, a birthright that Elsa has come back to claim.

Marvel gets into the Halloween spirit this year with a new Disney+ special that introduces new characters to the MCU with a stylish twist. Werewolf by Night presents as a classic horror movie, dropping viewers into the middle of a secret world of monster hunters. The retro stylings and a pair of endearing leads successfully distract, at least for a while, from some of the more conventional MCU traits that prevent it from venturing too far into horror territory.
Ulysses Bloodstone’s passing leaves the throne open for a new leader of his monster hunter guild. His wife has assembled a group of the most ruthless monster slayers at Bloodstone Castle for a ceremonious hunt to determine their new ruler. The winner of the quest must successfully retrieve the Bloodstone from a creature prowling the castle grounds, and the hunters are free to take out their competition if it suits them.
