To combat the ominous atmosphere of the Ides of March, Netflix has another Lindsay Lohan film, “Irish Wish,” which is now streaming. The follow-up to “Falling for Christmas” in Lohan’s deal with the streamer to make two films, “Irish Wish” focuses on love, luck and a little bit of magic in the rom-com that arrives right before Saint Patrick’s Day.
Lohan portrays a smart book editor, except when it comes to matters of her heart. It takes a wish granted by a mystical woman out in the beautiful Irish countryside to get Maddie to realize that what she hopes and dreams for might not be what she wants or should want in life.
Featuring music from Lohan’s younger sister, Aliana, and a guest appearance from her brother, Dokota, the cast is stacked with other familiar faces as well. We’ve rounded up the “Irish Wish” cast and...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Star Trek: Picard episode ‘Disengage’. Proceed with caution.
England-born actor Ed Speleers is no stranger to fantastical action-adventure roles — his big cinematic breakout came as the title role of the 2006 adaptation of high-fantasy epic Eragon. Since then, he’s worked steadily both in and out of genre work, including a stint as Jimmy Kent on Downton Abbey and roles in Outlander and Alice Through the Looking Glass.
But 2023 has been a big year for Speleers: Not only does he have a prominent role in the fourth season of Netflix’s You, but he’s also been inaugurated into the annals of Star Trek royalty in the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard. As we learned in the second episode of the season, which premiered this week, Speleers’ mysterious character isn’t just the wry, laconic son of Gates McFadden’s Beverly Crusher...

Season 4 of You takes place in a new country, meaning new faces. Rhys Motrose (Ed Speleers) is one of them and had a unique interaction with Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). Here is why some fans might recognize his face.

Joe goes to a party with Malcolm (Stephen Hagan) in the first episode of season 4 at an exclusive club. Lady Phoebe Borehall-Blaxworth (Tilly Keeper) is the center of a friend group that includes Nigerian princess Blessing Bosede (Ozioma Whenu), artist Simon Soo (Aidan Cheng), and influencer Sophie Soo (Niccy Lin).
Of course, Joe hates all of them. But there was one person who he surprisingly had a good time with.

Outlander fans are very familiar with horrifying villains. The antagonist of the show's earliest seasons, Black Jack Randall, was about as bad as a bad guy can get. In the upcoming fourth season, though, a new character might be giving Black Jack a run for his money. Irish pirate Stephen Bonnet, as fans of Diana Gabaldon's books will know, appears charming and handsome on the outside, but it doesn't take long for his awful nature to show itself. It's new territory for actor Ed Speleers, who plays Bonnet, and has previously made a career as fairly heroic characters.
Speleers started his career in a pretty magical way (pun intended). At the age of eighteen, after only appearing in school plays in England, he was plucked from a worldwide casting call to play the lead role in 2006's young adult fantasy epic Eragon. The movie, based on the first novel...

Outlander has recruited two familiar TV faces — Orphan Black‘s Maria Doyle Kennedy and Downton Abbey‘s Ed Speleers — to take on a pair of key Season 4 roles, TVLine has learned.
Kennedy will play Jamie’s strong-willed Aunt Jocasta, whose plantation Jamie and Claire arrive at early in Drums of Autumn, the fourth of eight books in Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling series (and the one on which Season 4 is based). Speleers, meanwhile, will portray Irishman Stephen Bonnet, a pirate and smuggler who [Spoiler Alert] becomes very integral to the series moving forward, particularly in the lives of Brianna and Roger.

Outlander is adding some familiar faces to its cast for season four. The Starz drama has cast Orphan Black and Downton Abbey veteran Maria Doyle Kennedy as Jocasta, Jamie's strong-willed aunt. Ed Speleers of Wolf Hall will play Irishman Stephen Bonnet, a pirate and smuggler. Doyle Kennedy, who viewers remember as Siobhan Sadler, also played Mr. Bates' wife on Downton Abbey. Her other credits include Dexter, Albert Nobbs, The Tudors, Sing Street and The Conjuring 2. She's also an accomplished singer. Speleers played Jimmy Kent on Downton Abbey from seasons three-five. His other credits include Howl, Wolf Hall, Alice Through the Looking Glass and Eragon. Season four began filming in Scotland this...

For many actors, Downton Abbey was their first big break in television.

After starring in series three, four and five of Downton, Ed Speleers left Jimmy Kent behind for another role in a big budget British TV drama.

The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.
In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.
The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.
Here's where a new running feature comes into play:
As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...

“Downton is catching up with the times we live in,” Mrs. Hughes says in the trailer for Downton Abbey’s season 5. And, according to the trailer, those times involve secrets, sex, and secret sex.
Jimmy Kent gets caught in bed with a mystery woman, Lady Mary Crawley appears to have a new love interest, and Violet Crawley makes a crack about servants being people too but “preferably only on their days off.” As if the Crawleys & co. didn’t already have enough drama to deal in their lives, there’s also a fire in what looks like a room of the estate.

Things are heating up in the season-five trailer for Downton Abbey, and we're not solely referring to the actual fire. The newly released trailer reveals lots of intriguing plot twists for the upcoming season, including Tom Branson's (Allen Leech) smooch, Lady Mary Crawley's (Michelle Dockery) wistful gaze and Jimmy Kent's (Ed Speleers) romp in bed. "Our grandchild is about to be stolen from us forever," the Earl of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) says ominously. Perhaps the biggest mystery is whether Downton will be destroyed in what appears to be a devastating fire. Downton Abbey returns for season 5

Take a meeting, take a number. Several dozen actors in Hollywood are taking meetings with J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy and the producers of “Star Wars: Episode VII.” You can add to that mix Lupita Nyong'o, who recently won an Oscar for her role in Steve McQueen’s “12 Years A Slave.” With “Girls” star Adam Driver being the only name that looks locked in right now (he’ll play the new Darth Vader-like baddie apparently), contenders include John Boyega ("Attack The Block"), Ed Speleers (aka Jimmy Kent from "Downton Abbey"), theatre actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher, and the already-rumored "Breaking Bad" and "Friday Night Lights" star Jesse Plemons. There hasn’t been too much word of females in the mix for 'Star Wars' thus far. One early name that popped up, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” star Saoirse Ronan already confirmed to us that she took meetings, but...

Downton Abbey's Ed Speleers and Attack the Block's John Boyega are on a shortlist of five actors tipped for a leading role in director Jj Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII, reports Variety.
The pair join Jesse Plemons, who was in Breaking Bad, as well as stage specialists Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher, in the running to play a young Jedi apprentice who will take on Adam Driver's previously announced "Darth Vader-like" villain.
Episode VII will focus on the heroes of the original trilogy – Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo – but a younger actor is also being sought who will presumably move to centre stage for succeeding films. Variety reports that Abrams...

One can imagine that, when it was announced J.J. Abrams would helm the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, the Bad Robot switchboard must have been immediately clogged with the names of ambitious young actors and actresses, desperate to travel to a galaxy far, far away. In terms of prestigious film roles, they don’t come with a higher profile than those in a Star Wars movie. While official and verified casting announcements have been few and far between for this top secret project, Variety is now reporting that the net is closing on a young male lead, with a possible shortlist being considered.
In terms of screen actors, first of all, there’s Ed Speelers – the charismatic young star who has been entertaining Downton Abbey fans with his performance as footman Jimmy Kent since 2012. Then, there’s John Boyega – the talented lead of 2011’s Attack The Block, who has been...

Director Jj Abrams praises costume drama as 'cleverly written and brilliantly cast' – and hopes to recruit its stars for new movie
Star Wars Episode 7 could turn out to be a truly classy affair. Director Jj Abrams recently visited the set of period drama Downton Abbey to scout for talent, reports the Mirror. It quotes actor Lesley Nichol, who plays cook Beryl Patmore, as saying: "Jj Abrams came to the set last year and he is just about to do the next Star Wars movie. He loves the show, and he checked a few of us to star in the film." And Abrams was effusive in his praise for Downton: "It's absolute soap opera – done triple-a plus. It's cleverly written and brilliantly cast. It lets you enjoy what is – at the core, a pulpy family drama, but done with such respect and regard for the characters, you feel they're all alive.

Here's what we know so far: "Girls" star Adam Driver will be playing the villain in "Star Wars: Episode 7," while Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are widely expected to return in one way or another.
