Marina Ortega Mira is an experimental composer, producer, singer, and songwriter. Having a severe hyperacusis syndrome that affects her hearing, her music thrives from a very personal sampling and sound design style.
She studied formal music composition in Barcelona and later moved to Helsinki, where got involved in music research about artificial intelligence and algorithmic composition. Her final thesis consisted of the creation and analysis of a genetic algorithm for harmonic and melodic development, which led her to receive the Fulbright Award, considered one of the world's most prestigious scholarships. She then moved to Los Angeles and graduated from the USC Screen Scoring program.
Marina's music has premiered in some of the most prestigious European concert halls like Catalonia's Palace of the Music and L'Auditori, and she has worked in the music department of Ridley Scott and 20th Century Studios' production for the new Disney/Hulu movie Boston Strangler, on Netflix' Dynasty, Amazon Prime's KSI: In Real Life, and collaborated as a composer with Paul Feig's Powderkeg Media production company. In 2022, she received the ASCAP Harold Arlen Film & TV Award.
With a lyrical singing background, Marina adapts the former vocal techniques with the new performance aesthetic. Her voice has been described as "clear with a velvety quality, but with a surprising ability to change her color at will".
