‘NCIS’ Creators Considered a Lot of A-list Actor to Play Gibbs — From Alec Baldwin to Patrick Swayze
Fans of NCIS eagerly await season 21 updates, as we can’t wait to find out when the beloved series returns. Unfortunately, we don’t anticipate Mark Harmon’s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, appearing. Harmon played Gibbs for 19 seasons before calling it quits. And before Harmon got the job, NCIS creators considered A-list stars to play Gibbs.
‘NCIS’ creators considered A-listers to play Leroy Jethro Gibbs instead of Mark Harmon
Mark Harmon wasn’t always who NCIS creators wanted to play Leroy Jethro Gibbs. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that other A-list stars were considered for the role.
Charles Floyd Johnson, executive producer for Jag and NCIS, spoke about the casting challenges production initially faced. “I know Harrison Ford was a name that everybody thought about for Gibbs because he was so perfect,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter. “But, I don’t think it ever got further than,...

AGC International, the international sales and distribution arm of Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios, will launch sales on the supernatural thriller “Late Night With the Devil” at the American Film Market in Santa Monica on Halloween. The film, a nightmarishly entertaining ode to the talk shows and horror movies of the 1970s, won the best screenplay prize at Sitges Film Festival.
“Late Night With the Devil” is written, directed and edited by Australian genre mavericks Cameron and Colin Cairnes. The brothers have crafted an original narrative that unfolds nearly in real time, as the 1977 live broadcast of a late-night talk show unexpectedly transforms from amusing to bizarre to deliciously sinister, unleashing evil into the nation’s living rooms.
The film stars David Dastmalchian as talk-show host Jack Delroy, and is produced by Derek Dauchy, Mat Govoni, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Adam White and John Molloy for Image Nation Abu Dhabi,...

This Halloween, the animatronic denizens of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza are heading to the big screen in Five Nights at Freddy’s, with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop responsible for bringing them to life through animatronics and puppetry.
Universal Pictures will release Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s in theaters and on Peacock beginning Friday, October 27, 2023. Five Nights at Freddy’s is directed by Emma Tammi (The Wind, Blood Moon) and written by Scott Cawthon, Emma Tammi, and Seth Cuddeback.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Five Nights at Freddy’s Project Supervisor and Lead Designer, Robert Bennett (“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” Come Play), ahead of the film’s release about bringing the iconic characters to life.
Speaking with Bennett made one thing clear: starting with the game’s creator, Scott Cawthon, every element of this film was made with the intent to remain true to the games. Because Jim Henson’s...

They sold it with a list of surnames: Stallone. Statham. Li. Lundgren. Couture. Austin. Crews. Willis. The only name missing was Schwarzenegger, and that’s simply because they wanted his cameo to be a surprise. (He’d make the poster for the sequel.) Two of them came from the worlds of pro-wrestling and UFC fighting, and one of them was an ex-NFL linebacker. But it still read like an Action Hero Hall of Fame roll call, especially in the year of our lord 2010. That was the appeal, or maybe just the gimmick,...

"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" is often criticized for its culturally problematic portrayal of the Thugee cult, and its unsettlingly dark content that, along with "Gremlins," led to the Motion Picture Association's creation of the PG-13 rating. The former issue is wholly legitimate, but is anything in the 1984 sequel more violent than Nazis getting their faces melted or Pat Roach getting cut to ribbons by a airplane propeller in "Raiders of the Lost Ark?"
What's not up for debate is that "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" was a particularly rough shoot for star Harrison Ford. The actor herniated a disc in his back while performing a somersault during the assassination attempt in Indy's bedroom, and refused to leave the set for treatment. As George Lucas recalled in John Baxter's "Mythmaker: The Life and Work of George Lucas," "[Ford] could barely stand up, yet he was...

Star Wars brought back the late Carrie Fisher as the iconic Princess Leia. But there were a few incidences that occurred while filming the anticipated sequel where Fisher felt she embarrassed herself.

Fisher admitted to being a bit anxious when reprising her role as Princess Leia in The Force Awakens. The actor hadn’t portrayed the character since Return of the Jedi, and she felt pressure having to do the role justice decades later. This led to Fisher making a few errors while revisiting Leia.

2008's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" might not be the franchise's finest moment, but it still has some cool Indiana Jones moments — the whole nuking the fridge thing aside. With the fourth film in the series, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg decided to leave the adventure serial style of the previous films behind in favor of a 1950s sci-fi B-movie sensibility. Whereas the Nazis had been the go-to villains for the previous three entries, Lucas and Spielberg's new approach saw Indy facing off against the Soviets at the height of the Cold War, in a race to recover the titular cranium in order to thwart the Russians' nefarious plans.
But before any of those grand escapades kick off, "Crystal Skull" makes sure to get a good old-fashioned chase scene in. After Harrison Ford's Dr. Jones meets his long-lost son Mutt Williams (Shia Labeouf) for the first time,...

In 1977, "Star Wars" created a powerful fandom. Suddenly the world was invested in a space princess who directed her own rescue, a farm boy with big dreams, and a rogue pilot who charmed his way into our hearts and bags of smuggled goods. For many people, this marked the beginning of their love of genre films, and there are very few places on the planet where the names Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia aren't recognized.
When we think about Leia Organa, the Princess/Senator/General that inspired a generation, it's almost impossible to imagine anyone but the late, great Carrie Fisher playing the role. However, that part went through auditions like any other. During a 2002 interview between Fisher and creator George Lucas on Fisher's show "Conversations from the Edge with Carrie Fisher" (via Comic Book Resources), Lucas revealed that the runner-up for her role ended up as a famous musician.

Two true-life sports movies opening on the same weekend! Oh yeah, it was bound to happen but we’re taking a big detour (hmm), maybe even a U-turn from the video game F1 flick. For one thing. this one is set squarely in the past, before Pong was a staple, way back in the splashy 1970s, after a brief stop in the sensational ’60s. Oh, and this concerns the American pastime (as in hot dogs and apple pie), in the tradition of The Natural and The Rookie (with which it shares a star). Now the title doesn’t refer to the pitcher’s mound, but rather to the obstacles its focus must face (perhaps closer to a steep mountain). And since it’s also the last name of the family in this faith-based drama it’s simply The Hill.

Chicago – Catching a young actor in an early career stride is like catching lightning in a bottle. Colin Ford has such a breakthrough role portraying Rickey Hill, a Texas ballplayer who is battling a degenerative disease that may not give him enough time to fulfill his major league dreams. The film is aptly titled “The Hill.”
Rickey Hill wears leg braces as a child due to a degenerative spinal disease, but enjoys playing baseball. His strict pastor father (Dennis Quaid) dissuades his son from the sport, wanting to shield him from further injuries. But despite all odds, the older Rickey (Colin Ford) becomes a baseball “phenom.” When he begins to be scouted for the major leagues, the father and son are still divided, but Rickey Hill won’t give up.

If you take a look at the original Jim Steranko concept art for "Raiders of the Lost Ark," you can see the initial plan for Indiana Jones himself was a lot different from Harrison Ford's version. When Indy's first adventure arrived in 1981, Ford debuted in the lead role, portraying a daring archeologist adventurer who wasn't without his flaws, lending the character an everyman appeal that complemented his dynamic presence. But Steranko's original vision for the character had been of a much larger, square-jawed action hero type. While Ford undeniably had the requisite jawline, his build wasn't quite that of the Steranko character. Tom Selleck, on the other hand, couldn't have been a better fit, and George Lucas and Steven Spielberg knew it.

"Raiders of the Lost Ark" remains the best Indiana Jones film partly due to its very real sense of danger. According to John Rhys-Davies, who played Indy's sidekick Sallah, director Steven Spielberg "was making it up as he goes along. The script was endless pages of action description. A lot of the dialogue was (improvised) by Steven; Steven and Harrison [Ford]; or Steven, Harrison and myself." Indeed, one of the most famous scenes in "Raiders" was improvised by Ford, wherein he shoots stuntman Terry Richards' swordsman during the Cairo marketplace scene.
But while the spontaneous nature of filming "Raiders" lent the film an air of excitement and danger, it also made for a literally dangerous shoot, to the extent that Spielberg was amazed Ford's stunt team made it through the production alive. The director has written about his remorse over allowing Ford to perform many of the stunts himself and...

Whether you loved or hated "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" you can't deny that the movie was very important to its star Harrison Ford. Listen to any of his interviews promoting the film or watch his speech at the Cannes premiere and you can hear the emotion in his voice when he looks back on all his work as Indiana Jones and how grateful he is to make a final movie where the iconic screen hero's arc mirrors his own.
For the filmmakers, showing the aging archeologist growing distant from the world around him was the reason to make this sequel, and audiences more or less agree with them. While the movie was mixed for critics and didn't set the box office on fire, it currently stands at an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. That means that most people who went and saw it really liked it.

Where does the line between fact and fiction begin to blur? Certain once-in-a-generation roles tend to have that effect on their respective actors, like Robert Downey, Jr. and the commonly accepted narrative that he's essentially "playing himself" as Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, Harrison Ford has had more than his fair share of portraying iconic characters, and now the star will forever remain indistinguishable from his performances as Indiana Jones, thanks to an unexpected source -- the scientific community.
The Hollywood Reporter has the details on this fun story that Indy himself would probably consider to be unsettling. Thanks to a singularly famous line in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," which was subsequently doubled down upon and turned into a recurring gag with every proceeding film, even the most casual fans know that there's only one thing that the fearless archaeologist and explorer simply cannot abide: snakes.

Harrison Ford is a famous animal lover, but a new honor bestowed upon him from scientists might have the actor asking “Why’d it have to be snakes?” all over again. Researchers have named a new species of snake discovered in the Andes Mountains in Peru the Tachymenoides harrisonfordi.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Tachymenoides harrisonfordi is a yellow-brown snake with a black belly and black spots measuring 16 inches long. Scientists from a collaboration between Peru and the United States found exactly one snake of its kind, a male, in May 2022; it was sunbathing in a swamp in Otishi National Park.
Despite his famous Raiders of the Lost Ark line, researchers actually named the snake after Ford to pay tribute to his history of environmental advocacy, including his role as vice-chair of Conservation International. In the past, scientists have named an ant (Pheidole harrisonfordi) and a spider (Calponia harrisonfordi) after the actor.

Thanks to a line of dialogue from Indiana Jones in Steven Spielberg’s 1981 blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harrison Ford has long been linked to snakes. The association has now been formalized in real life.
Researchers have discovered a new species of snake in Peru’s Andes mountains and named the variety after Ford. The species is called Tachymenoides harrisonfordi, and is described as a type of slender snake that measures 16 inches long. The snake is pale yellowish-brown with scattered black blotches, a black belly and a vertical streak over his copper-colored eye, making it well-camouflaged to the surrounding environment. Reflecting on making "Raiders of the Lost Ark," Steven Spielberg was amazed his stunt team survived the shoot. Writing for the American Society of Cinematographers, he recalled how even Harrison Ford put himself in harm's way to bring the 1981 adventure classic to life, including when he outran a 300-pound fiberglass boulder as part of the now famous opening sequence. Spielberg summed it up with this brief admission: "Harrison had to race the rock 10 times. He won 10 times -- and beat the odds. He was lucky -- and I was an idiot for letting him try it."

When it comes to the female companion characters of the "Indiana Jones" franchise, Karen Allen's Marion Ravenwood stands above the rest. After her debut in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," Marion has returned for two other adventures — "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," and the recent "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny."
Even before "Dial of Destiny" came out, Indy himself, Harrison Ford, made it clear that this would be his last time playing the part of the globe-trotting, whip-cracking archeologist. And based on the less-than-stellar box office returns for "Dial of Destiny," it's unlikely Disney is going to be rushing to make another Indiana Jones movie anytime soon. But while Ford has hung up his hat and whip, Allen isn't quite ready to say goodbye to Marion just yet.

Samuel L. Jackson has starred in several hit blockbusters, making his films some of the highest grossing projects seen in cinema. Only a few, like Harrison Ford, have managed to rival or surpass Jackson’s combined box-office intake.
But Jackson felt all he needed was to appear in one more Indiana Jones movie to secure his rank.

Not many actors have starred in as many blockbusters with their names on them as Jackson has. Some of his most well-known franchises, like Star Wars and Marvel’s The Avengers, have grossed billions of dollars in box-office revenue.
Megastar Harrison Ford, however, once managed to beat Jackson as far as highest-grossing films went. Some of Ford’s most successful projects included hits in the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.

You’ve seen him ripping a motorboat through the canals of Venice, Italy, during the opening heist of The Italian Job, dodging flying cars in the Fast and the Furious films, and doubling for Harrison Ford, most recently in the blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. He was even standing offscreen when Ford accidentally socked co-star Ryan Gosling during filming of Blade Runner 2049, recalling, “Ryan took it like a champ!”

Run-ins with creepy crawlies are an obligatory element of every Indiana Jones movie. "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" is loaded with centipedes, millipedes, and cockroaches; "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" plunges our hero into the rat-infested catacombs of Venice; "Indiana and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" has those not-very-terrifying CGI Siafu ants; and "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" brings back the centipedes and other disgusting insects for the penultimate set piece at Archimedes' tomb.
But when you think of Indiana Jones and slithery, scurrying things, you automatically think of snakes -- although Indy wishes you didn't.
As we learn at the outset of "Raiders of the Lost Ark," our favorite globetrotting archaeologist hates snakes. Personally, I think they're beautiful creatures, but that doesn't mean I'd like to fall into a pit loaded with the sometimes lethal reptiles. This, of course, occurs during the Well of Souls sequence,...

When Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert sat down at the end of 1993 to pick their 10 favorite movies of the year, they largely selected prestige, Oscar-bait films like The Piano, The Age of Innocence, The Joy Luck Club, and Schindler’s List. They skipped nearly all of the big multiplex hits of the year, including Jurassic Park, Sleepless in Seattle, and Mrs. Doubtfire, making an exception only for The Fugitive. It’s an honor they didn’t give to Die Hard in 1988, The Terminator in 1984, Aliens in 1986, or many other great action movies of the VHS era.

Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) in Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny. ©2023 Lucasfilm Ltd. & Tm. All Rights Reserved. With Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Harrison Ford is saying goodbye to a character he’s played for more than 40 years, in a franchise that’s spawned five movies, a TV series, books, video games, and even a pinball machine. Obviously, with Ford now 81 years old, the time was right for him to call it a day, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t sad about it. Understandably, he told us, the end of Indy is an extremely bittersweet proposition for him. Remember when streaming was a boutique service? When Jenji Kohan’s productions were given a long, healthy life instead of fast-tracked for cancellation? Sure, there are still a number of specialty pluses — AMC+, Apple TV+, Shudder — but in accordance with corporate mandates, the name-brand streamers are expanding to court as wide an audience as possible. Netflix is pumping out reality TV, holiday movies, and plenty of true crime. Disney+ attracts the masses with worldwide brands like Marvel and Star Wars. Blockbusters have migrated from movie screens to SVOD, and even broadcast’s biggest hit (the NFL) is now a streaming success for Prime Video.
But, like a certain quarterback-starved football team learning what to do with a superstar under center, television remains in transition. Streaming takes priority (at the megacorps and in the media), even when some 70 million U.S. cable and satellite customers need to be served. Companies that...
