This post contains spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
During the prolonged climax of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," the titular superhero team has to break into a high-security spaceship being flown by the villainous High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). In order to make their way inside, however, they have to fight down a hallway populated by the High Evolutionary's goons, each of them instructed to kill the heroes. In an exhilarating one-take sequence, the Guardians lay waste to the security guards, killing every one of them with aggression and panache.
/Film has written about the dark ambivalence of that scene, pointing out that the Guardians had just learned an important lesson about protecting all life and respecting the strange animal monsters in the High Evolutionary's thrall. In other words, the Guardians has only just learned to be gentler and kinder, and yet they were...

Ballet has captivated audiences for centuries — there's something effortlessly elegant about it. In a surprise to no one, stories revolving around ballet make for intriguing movies. It's a world we know so little about — where there's always a mile to go, a bigger goal to accomplish.
In recent times, most films centered on ballerinas tend to include themes about achieving greatness while navigating jealousy in a cutthroat industry where attaining perfection isn't a need; it is a necessity. There's already an exciting take coming out in the form of the "John Wick" spin-off starring Ana de Armas, in which the actress plays a dancer-assassin who sets out to exact revenge for her family — and there's another, totally-unrelated, action-thriller flick also centered on ballerinas being helmed by Vicky Jewson (The Witcher: Blood Origin) from a script by Kate Freund.
It's called "Ballerina Overdrive" and it features one hell of a cast.

Directed by Vicky Jewson (The Witcher: Blood Origin) from a screenplay by Kate Freund (Afterlife), Ballerina Overdrive will tell the story of a troupe of ballerinas who find themselves fighting for survival as they attempt to escape from a remote inn after their bus breaks down on the way to a dance competition. Ever wonder what it takes to bring your favorite superheroes to life? We know we have. That's why we reached out to stunt coordinator Heidi Moneymaker and asked her to shed light on the magic behind making Marvel movies and shows. Though you may not recognize Heidi's name, you've likely seen her work, as she's been a key player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade, having been Scarlett Johansson's stunt double in Iron Man 2, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow. On Marvel's current Disney+ series, Hawkeye, Heidi served as a stunt coordinator and second unit director,...

The increased focus on female butt-kickers on TV has been a positive step for feminism and in trouncing stereotypes.
Series as vastly different in tone as AMC’s “The Walking Dead” zombie franchise to the martial arts-tinged “Cobra Kai” on Netflix and the CW’s “Kung Fu”to Disney Plus’ Marvel Cinematic Universe spinoffs like “Hawkeye” and Starz’s wrestling family drama “Heels” have all highlighted stunt work of female characters.
“There are a lot of female stunt doubles and stunt performers and there have been for a lot of years,” says Heidi Moneymaker, the stunt coordinator on “Hawkeye” who is also known for doubling Scarlett Johansson in several “Avengers” movies.

With a last name like Moneymaker, it seems like Heidi was destined to be a part of the entertainment industry. Heidi is best known for the work she’s done as a stunt woman and recently she’s been getting a lot of attention for her role in the 2021 movie Black Widow. Although Scarlett Johansson is technically the star, none of it would be possible without Heidi’s hard work, dedication, and talent. Many would agree that Heidi hasn’t gotten nearly as much credit as she deserves over the years, but if you ask Heidi, she’ll likely tell you that she isn’t

This article contains spoilers for Disney’s Mulan. You can read our spoiler-free review of the film here.
When Disney’s Mulan came out in 1998, American viewers had not yet seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), which was the first big wuxia hit film for American audiences. The animated feature takes its inspiration from a Chinese legend, but the film fits more into the traditional animated Disney Princess mold—and, with Eddie Murphy playing Mulan’s sidekick Mushu, the resulting film felt very American, despite its Chinese setting. Disney’s 2020 live-action film continues in the tradition of its other live-action remakes, but also leans into the legend behind the original animated feature—and draws on Chinese filmmaking to create something that honors the cartoon while standing solidly on its own. Here are all of the differences and similarities between the 1998 animated Disney Mulan and the 2020 live-action adaptation.

The onscreen exploits of stuntwomen, and their off-screen battles for fair and equal treatment, is explored in Stuntwomen: The Untold Hollywood Story, a new documentary from director April Wright for Shout! Studios that debuts September 22 on digital platforms.
Narrated by Fast & Furious franchise star Michelle Rodriquez and based on Mollie Gregory’s 2015 best-seller, the film chronicles the lives of women who perform the stunts in some of Hollywood’s biggest action sequences — from the early days of silent movies to today’s blockbusters. The producers are Stephanie Austin, Michael Gruskoff and Marion Rosenberg.
“These unheralded heroines are the generations of stuntwomen who risked their lives in front of the camera, while behind it they fought for equal rights with male stunt performers, battled sexism and harassment, sustained life-threatening injuries and returned to the fray after each battle,” the producing team said in a joint statement.

Coming to us from Reddit – hardly the most reliable source, but it has yielded accurate intel in the past – a user is claiming that none other than Scarlett Johansson will be reprising her role as Black Widow for Captain Marvel. There are many constants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one thing that certainly won’t ever stand still is Black Widow’s endless experiments in haircuts.
From the weird bouncy doll hair in her Iron Man 2 debut, to the wavy red barnet of Age of Ultron to the Farrah Fawcett 70s spy chic of Civil War, she’s always sporting a new look. Perhaps the most dramatic, however, is to come this May, when she ditches red for blonde in Avengers: Infinity War.
Her hair is so noticeable in fact that, when we saw the Instagram photos from the Avengers 4 set below, we realized very quickly that something was off. Posted by Black Widow stuntwoman (and owner of a super cool name) Heidi Moneymaker, the outfit and hairdo is taken straight from the Lagos-set opening of Captain America: Civil War.

Just a quick head-up: For those of you in the Los Angeles area, next weekend, April 22-24, marks the occasion for the second annual Artemis Women in Action Film Festival, playing at the newly refurbished Ahrya Fine Arts Theater in Beverly Hills. This festival, a labor of love project from athlete-actress Melanie Wise and writer-producers Sean Newcombe and Zack Baldwin, highlights the cinematic contributions of women in movies, in the stunt field as well as actresses in the realm of action cinema, and also highlights real-life women who have made significant, pioneering contributions to the furthering of women in sports and other traditionally male-dominated arenas.
Wise, an actress, athlete, aspiring filmmaker and one of the founding members of Artemis Motion Pictures, the group behind the festival, remembers her days auditioning for countless roles in TV and movies that amounted essentially to helpless women in peril. But being six feet tall herself,...

It was revealed this week that Scarlett Johansson is expecting her first child with fiancé Romain Dauriac, but despite the happy news for the couple, this has of course led to speculation about what it means for her role as the Black Widow in Joss Whedon’s star-studded sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron.
According to E! News, the baby is due in August and the actress is still set to head straight to work on the Avengers Assemble follow-up when press for Captain America: The Winter Soldier wraps up. Los Angeles, April 25: Actress Scarlett Johansson, who had to work hard to get into shape to play Black Widow in "The Avengers", says she is worried about her body.
But the actress is happy that her action role has got her into the best shape she has ever been in.
"Every woman has body worries, and I'm not exempt from that. But part of the by-product of spending that much time in the gym is that you can fit into a cat suit," contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.
Johansson plays as Black Widow and her spy character in the superhero movie is fierce. She had to work very closely with her stunt-double Heidi Moneymaker to get her fight scenes right.
"The idea is that Moneymaker and I become one and we can start.

Reprising her role as the butt-kicking Black Widow in The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson had her own butt to worry about. Namely, how it looked in her skin-tight, curve-hugging costume.
