She is an American activist and survivor of child sex trafficking. She was convicted of the first-degree murder of her trafficker, George Gilbert Howard in a Riverside, California motel room, who began to groom her for the sex industry at the age of 11. She was 16 at the time of the murder. She was initially sentenced to life imprisonment without parole, but was later both paroled after 18 years, and later pardoned.
