You’d be forgiven for not being inclined to laugh at anything pregnancy-related at the moment. Kudos to “Doula” for trying, though, as director Cheryl Nichols’ lighthearted pregnancy comedy arrives at a time when the “laughter is the best medicine” theory is being stress-tested like never before for women across the country. To call its brand of comedy “niche” might be an understatement — for one thing, its central plot development hinges on knowing the difference between a midwife and a doula — but the film’s insights ultimately outnumber its laughs.
That wouldn’t appear to be the case early on, as the funniest scene is also the first. Eyes closed during a visualization exercise, Deb (Troian Bellisario) reluctantly informs her midwife Penka (Cheryl Baker) that it isn’t working. She can’t see a baby, just an orangish blob. There’s just one problem: Penka has died sometime in the last few minutes.

Exclusive: Actor-filmmaker Cheryl Nichols (Doula) has signed with Stride Management.
Nichols recently directed the comedy Doula, produced by Chris Pine’s company Barry Linen Motion Pictures, which Universal Pictures will release across digital and VOD platforms on June 28. Her third feature starring Troian Bellisario, Arron Shiver and Will Greenberg centers on Deb (Bellisario) and Silvio (Arron Shiver), who after months of dating, are expecting their first child. When their elderly midwife Penka passes away suddenly, Silvio makes the hasty decision to hire her son, Sascha (Greenberg), as their live-in doula. Deb is bewildered, as Silvio didn’t consult her before hiring. But before long, the two grow closer, and when the pregnancy nears its conclusion, Silvio feels like the odd man out. His continued efforts to exert control over the pregnancy lead to a blow-up fight in which he forces Deb to choose between him and Sascha.

Exclusive: To most movie stars, having two movies dropping within seven days of each other would seem like they are plenty busy, but for Chris Pine, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Besides having The Contractor and All the Old Knives going day-and-date on April 1 and April 8, respectively, Pine also is deep in prep on his directorial debut Poolman, which he is also starring in, while also building out a robust development slate for his production banner Barry Linen Pictures, which he co-founded with his partner Ian Gotler. On top of all that, he has the thriller Don’t Worry Darling bowing in fall, followed by another potential franchise in Dungeons & Dragons coming out next year. Oh, and there is that potential return to the USS Enterprise as he is in talks to reprise his star-making role of Captain Kirk for a fourth time in the next installment of the Star Trek franchise.

The point has been made, “Boardwalk Empire” can be a deliberately paced show, but on tonight's episode “Resignation,” it appears at least one of the fourth season’s key elements is in place. That would be Dr. Valentin Narcisse (Jeffrey Wright), the brewing antagonist, whose striking demeanor and decisive words cut to the core of every character. Narcisse, at the very least, would make a worthy adversary for any character on this show. Conspicuously absent from the Season 4 opener, as Terence Winter and his writing crew are likely well aware, former FBI agent Nelson Van Alden turned muscle for the Chicago Gangs under the assumed name George Mueller (Michael Shannon), is front and center this week. He’s an errand boy, but one that Northside Chi-town gangster Dean O’Banion (Arron Shiver) recognizes has a brain. Mueller delivers flowers from O’Banion’s shop, but also puts down a beating...

"Magic City" Season 2 premieres Friday, June 14 (9 p.m. Et on Starz), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan promises that the new year brings a story that's "darker, crazier and more vicious" than anything we saw last season (which featured blackmail, murder and voyeuristic sex acts on a weekly basis). Plus, Season 2 boasts Oscar nominee James Caan returning to his "Godfather" roots as a Chicago mobster whom Morgan simply describes as "a scary dude."
So what lengths will Ike Evans (Morgan) go to in order to rid his Miramar Playa Hotel of the mob and Ben “The Butcher” Diamond (Danny Huston)? And will his long-shot gamble tear the Evans family apart? Find out what Morgan told HuffPost TV to expect from "Magic City" Season 2 below.
Last time we saw Ike, he was in jail for murder, with State Attorney Jack Klein (Matt Ross) determined to throw away the key. Where does the beginning of Season 2 find him?...

Nucky Thompson has impressively wielded his extensive power and resources throughout the run of Boardwalk Empire. Though he may have only embraced his "full gangster" recently, Thompson has proven to be quite adept at political maneuvering and rallying the troops to vanquish whatever enemy dared to threaten his position as King of Atlantic City. However, now that he's facing someone as violent and dangerous as Gyp Rosetti, Nucky can't rely on the long-con anymore; he can't wait for the right moment to strike or Gyp will have gotten too powerful to take down.
But is it already too late?
Below are the dates, episode names, episode descriptions, and repeat airings for the next four episodes of Boardwalk Empire's third season.
Sunday, November 4th - "Pony"
Gillian (Gretchen Mol) makes her peace with Jimmy’s death, though not with Nucky (Steve Buscemi), as Gyp (Bobby Cannavale) arrives to play ally.

The season premiere of Boardwalk Empire found each of the characters heading toward new beginnings, either personally or professionally. There were rivalries born that will undoubtedly result in spilled blood, new career opportunities that could change the course of someone's life, and connections formed that give one a sense of purpose and belonging. Finally. Finally, finally, finally, Boardwalk Empire season 3 has arrived, and not a moment too soon. After watching the premiere episode last night (and again this morning), I can honestly tell you that I have a few reservations about this coming season, but I can also tell you that that’s probably just simple nerves. If I can trust in anything in this world, it’s that Boardwalk Empire is the best show currently on television (even if Boss is giving it much competition).
Before we go any further, it would be rude of me not to warn you that spoilers lay ahead, not just for the season 3 premiere, but also possibly for the whole season (historical spoilers, if you will). So if you haven’t watched the episode yet, best bookmark this page for later.
The events of last season were awfully tumultuous, but they also had a natural progression.

Chicago – “Ordinary men avoid trouble. Extraordinary men turn it to their advantage.” Isn’t that line from the second episode of the third season of “Boardwalk Empire,” returning tonight, September 16, 2012 on HBO, really at the core of everything we know about Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) and the people that play in his circle of violence? Nucky doesn’t run from trouble. He faces it head on. And with that comes great reward but also great risk. And great television.
Television Rating: 4.5/5.0

Scott Gibson, he's our man! If he can't do it... we'll have to re-cast the part again!
Remember when we told you that Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) was going to play the lead in the upcoming zombie film, First Platoon? Yeah, well, he's not now. Instead Scott Gibson will be playing Rock Brannigan, leader a group of zombie hunters in the apocalyptic southwest.
And who is Scott Gibson you might ask? Well, he did have a bit part in Diary of the Dead, and was in a few episodes of The Pacific, and if that doesn't ring any bells, he looks a little like this guy:
Still doesn't ring any bells? Look him up on IMdB! We've done enough already! As for the rest of the First Platoon cast, all is still well. The movie features Arron Shiver (The Book of Eli), Jennifer Skyler, Malcolm McDowell, Sid Haig , and John Kassir.

First Earth Films have been in touch to let us know that Scott Gibson (Haldane in the Spielberg/Hanks epic The Pacific), will be taking over the role of ‘Rock Brannigan’ – the leader of a motley team of zombie fighters in the post-apocalyptic desert southwest – replacing Alan Tudyk. From the press release:
Gibson, a well-respected actor whose previous credits include Lucky Number Slevin as well as small parts in a number of other films (including a bit in George Romero’s zombie film Diary of the Dead), starred recently as Capt. Andrew Haldane in three episodes of the Steven Spielberg – Tom Hanks project The Pacific to excellent critical reviews.

A casting change has occurred on First Platoon , the zom-com we introduced to you in June . It seems Alan Tudyk has ducked out of the lead role of "Rock Brannigan," making room for actor Scott Gibson ( The Pacific ). The actor is no stranger to the dead having played a very small role in George Romero's Diary of the Dead . In Platoon , he's the leader of a motley team of zombie fighters in the post-apocalyptic desert southwest. Arron Shiver and Jennifer Skyler, Malcolm McDowell, Sid Haig and John Kassir also star for writer-director Chris Gabriel.

Alan Tudyk, best known for playing Wash in Serenity, is becoming quite the go-to actor for comedy-horror movies. Tudyk recently appeared in Sundance selection Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, about two hillbillies (Tudyk and Tyler Labine) mistaken for murderous psychopaths (and still, surprisingly, lacking a distribution deal). He also just joined the zombie comedy First Platoon.
While the movie is billed as a comedy, First Platoon looks like it might be trying for some decent action, as well. Tudyk and his group of zombie hunters will undergo military training from Band of Brothers military consultant and actor Capt. Dale Dye.

Zombies? Comedy? Alan Tudyk? Ok!
Alan Tudyk, known to many for his portrayal of Wash in the TV series Firefly and the post-cancellation movie Serenity is about to enjoy some more horror comedy. Tudyk was last seen in the horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil - at least, if you caught it at Sundance or other film festivals - and will continue this trend with First Platoon, a zombie comedy with Tudyk playing "Rock Brannigan," leader a group of zombie hunters in the apocalyptic southwest.
Joining Tudyk are Arron Shiver (The Book of Eli) as "Pete Davis" and newcomer Jennifer Skyler as "Molly Mcguire" with Malcolm McDowell (Clockwork Orange) as "Rex Necro," Sid Haig (Night of the Living Dead 3D) as "Pa Jericho," and John Kassir as "Burke." Skyler, Shiver and Tudyk will undergo military training from Capt. Dale Dye (military consultant on Band of Brothers), which seems a little extreme for a zombie comedy,...

Styd reports that former “Firefly”/”Serenity” guy Alan Tudyk has signed on to star in the post-apocalyptic horror flick “First Platoon”. Tudyk is coming off a co-starring role in the indie slasher/comedy “Tucker and Dale Versus Evil” and whatever roles Joss Whedon can scrounge up for him, not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s a good gig if you can get’em. In “First Platoon”, Tudyk will play Rock Brannigan, the leader of a ragtag squad of zombie hunters in the post-apocalyptic Southwest. Why would you go out to hunt zombies instead of hiding from them is a mystery the film will no doubt shed light on upon release. Also in the cast are Arron Shiver, Jennifer Skyler, Malcolm McDowell as Rex Necro, Sid Haig as Pa Jericho and John Kassir as Burke. “First Platoon” is from writer/director Chris Gabriel, and is scheduled for release...

By Susan Granger - Jackie Chan is looking for a piece of the lucrative family market with this lame-brained comedy. He plays Bob Ho, a mild-mannered pen importer who moonlights as an undercover CIA agent. He.s just the kind of .honest. guy that his suburban single-mom neighbor Gillian (supermodel Amber Valleta) really wants in her life, but her three kids find him dull as dishwater.
So when Gilliam must leave town to care for a sick relative, boring Bob offers to watch over of her sullen, sarcastic teenage daughter Farren (Madeline Carroll), nerdy technophile son Ian (Will Shandley) and adorable four year-old Nora (Alina Foley) who loves to dress like a Princess, leaving the spy chores to his CIA colleagues (George Lopez, Billy Ray Cyrus) in the Albuquerque office.
Predictably, Bob proves to be totally incompetent around the house. But when Ian accidentally intercepts and downloads on his iPod...
