Robyn McCall will continue righting wrongs for another season.
CBS has ordered a fifth season of The Equalizer, its drama series starring Queen Latifah (who also executive produces) as McCall, a former CIA operative turned freelance problem solver for people who have nowhere else to turn. The show is a reimagining of the 1985-89 series of the same name and not connected to the Denzel Washington-led film franchise that’s also inspired by the original series.
With the renewal, The Equalizer will pass the original series in the number of seasons it has aired (though not yet in episode count — the 1980s series ran for 88 episodes, and the current show will end this season with 56).
With the pickup of The Equalizer, CBS has only one scripted series — NCIS: Hawai’i — awaiting word on its future. The network plans to announce its 2023-24 schedule on May 2.

“The Equalizer” has been renewed for Season 5 at CBS, Variety has learned.
“’The Equalizer,’ led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes and formidable characters our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season.”
With the renewal, the only current CBS series awaiting word of its fate is “NCIS: Hawai’i.” The network has renewed much of its scripted lineup already, including recent pickups for “Elsbeth” and the “FBI” franchise. CBS recently announced it was canceling both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas,” while shows like “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “Blue Bloods” and “Young Sheldon” are coming to an end.
Per CBS, “The Equalizer” is currently averaging over 10 million viewers per episode in Live+35 multiplatform viewing. The show is based on the 1980s CBS series of the same name.

CBS has picked up a fifth season of drama The Equalizer, starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah, for 2024-25.
As Deadline reported last week, the renewal was fully expected, with the delay related to lead studio Universal Television negotiating a deal with Queen Latifah. It recently closed, paving the way to a renewal.
So far, The Equalizer‘s seasons had been capped at 18 episodes, which is something top talent often request when signing on for a broadcast drama series. There was an effort in the Queen Latifah negotiation to increase the number to 20 or more but I hear Season 5 will again consist of 18 episodes.
After Elsbeth renewed and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas canceled last week, NCIS: Hawai’i remains the only CBS scripted series in limbo.

As Deadline reported last week, Hawai’i’s future is said to be the subject of tough business conversations, with a partial Season 4 of 13 or fewer episodes still a possibility. It could be a final chapter for the show, the first installment in the NCIS franchise with a female lead.
The Equalizer has been a strong performer for CBS, currently ranking as the #8 most watched among all non-sports broadcast programs, averaging 7.89M linear viewers (in Nielsen most current data) and over 10 million viewers in Live+35 multi-platform viewership. It also is the #1 entertainment program among African Americans.

Co-produced by CBS Studios, The Equalizer is one of four drama series Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, makes for CBS, along with the three FBIs, all of which were also recently renewed, the flagship for three seasons.
A reimagining of the classic series, The Equalizer stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn.
Lorraine Toussaint, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira and Laya DeLeon Hayes also star. Andrew Marlowe, Terri Edda Miller, co-showrunners Joseph C. We’re now at the end of 2023, and the list of canceled Netflix shows for the year is now complete. Below, we’ll look at all the high-profile cancelations (that have been announced anyway) as of December 2023.
Cancelations are a painful part of being a Netflix subscriber. There’s nothing worse than starting a show only to discover that it’ll never properly conclude. Netflix isn’t the only network by any means to cancel, but given the scale of the service globally and the amount of content it produces, it’s easy to see why Netflix is the boogeyman.
With that said, Netflix does renew plenty, with over 150 shows at any given time set to return for future seasons.
There will also be lots and lots of shows that fall outside of this list into two camps.
Naturally ending shows include The Crown, Firefly Lane, and Never Have I Ever.

The 95th Oscars brought 18.755 million viewers to ABC, according to Nielsen’s official national ratings, by no means a high mark but up 13 percent from last year. The No. 2 show on all of TV in Sunday primetime drew less than one-third that haul.
CBS’ “The Equalizer” starring Queen Latifah nabbed 5.599 million viewers at 8 p.m. on Sunday, per Nielsen data. That’s a pretty good average considering Jimmy Kimmel’s highly-anticipated Academy Awards monologue was on at the same time. Probably the best individual win — and speech — of the night, Ke Huy Quan as Supporting Actor from “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” also happened within the first half-hour.
Here, we should point out that technically CBS had a stronger show in Sunday primetime: “60 Minutes” at 7 p.m. earned 6.040 million total viewers. While still less than a third what the Oscars got, we’re overlooking that one in favor of...

“The Equalizer” touches on a tragic topic in tonight’s episode that is, unfortunately, currently sweeping the country – antisemitism. In the episode titled “Never Again,” Harry (Adam Goldberg) reconnects with his Jewish faith as he leads the team in finding a culprit behind a string of hate crimes terrorizing a local community.
As seen in the exclusive clip above, what began with broken car windows on Shabbat quickly evolves into vandals spraying graffiti on a Jewish mural and a woman being knocked unconscious. The entire Jewish community is on edge and it fears that the hateful attacks are just beginning.
Goldberg’s Harry does the usual deep dive into his cases and learns that antisemitic assaults are up 167% in the country, prompting him to find clues at the scene that might have been overlooked.

As it has done in the past, The Equalizer once again shines a light on an important issue with the March 12 episode, this time, anti-Semitism, and it’s personal for Harry (Adam Goldberg). In “Never Again,” after a string of anti-Semitic hate crimes terrorizes a local community, Harry reconnects with his Jewish faith as he leads the team in finding the culprit before another attack. Co-showrunner Adam Glass co-wrote the episode with Ora Yashar, both using their personal experiences. “We knew very early on that this was an episode we wanted to do. Adam’s an Ashkenazi Jew, I’m a Mizrahi Jew. My family came from Iran. So it just felt like the combination of getting our perspectives together,” Yashar tells TV Insider. “Unfortunately, as we were writing this, anti-Semitism became even more relevant in today’s world, and so there was a lot of discussion and there was...

CBS has renewed its hit drama The Equalizer, starring Queen Latifah, for Seasons 3 and 4, beginning with the 2022-2023 broadcast season, the network announced Thursday.
The two-season renewal reflects the strength of The Equalizer‘s ratings performance — it is Sunday’s #1 scripted series, averaging 9.46 million viewers. Season to date, the show has amassed 1.2 billion potential social media impressions, according to CBS. In anticipation of a pickup, The Equalizer recently set new showrunners, Joseph C. Wilson and Adam Glass, who will succeed at the helm the series’ developers, Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller.
Additional renewals are expected in the coming days. As Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva previously reported CBS’ top scripted series, FBI, as well as spinoffs Most Wanted and International are in renewal negotiations with lead studio Universal Television and fully expected to continue, also possibly with multi-year renewals. Fellow Uni TV co-produced Magnum P.I. also has a chance to return.

There has been a shake-up behind the scenes at the CBS crime drama The Equalizer as the series’ creators, Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, have stepped down as showrunners. As first reported by Deadline, Joseph C. Wilson, who has been with the show since Season 1, and Adam Glass (The Chi) have been named new showrunners for the third season. While CBS has yet to officially renew the series, the hiring of new showrunners is a positive sign for the Queen Latifah-starring drama. “We are incredibly proud of the work we did to bring The Equalizer to audiences,” Marlowe and Miller told Deadline. “It’s been an honor and privilege to work with one of the most talented casts and crews in the business. Now, in the spirit of The Equalizer, it’s time to raise up other important voices who we know will carry on the heart and soul of this show.

Joseph C. Wilson, who has been on the show since the first season, and Adam Glass (The Chi) have been named new showrunners for Season 3.
CBS is yet to renew any of its Universal Television-co-produced series, The Equalizer, the three FBI dramas and Magnum Pi. Just as Disney Plus, HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video are revving up their fantasy, horror and sci-fi series slates for winter 2021-2022 debuts, Netflix is touting the abundance of genre series headed to the streamer.
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s head of scripted series for the U.S. and Canada, announced premiere details for a slew of “geeky” shows, as well as returning fan-favorites like “Locke & Key” and “The Umbrella Academy.”
“In my ten years at Netflix, it’s been thrilling to see the dropped jaws, the all-caps tweets/the hilarious memes and the passionate theories inspired by these once-in-a-lifetime moments,” Friedlander wrote in a blog post. “Genre stories have the power to transport us to new universes like the Upside Down in ‘Stranger Things,’ teach us new vocabulary like ‘The Witcher’ and, most importantly, unite us in our shared love of sci-fi, horror, fantasy, anime and everything in between.

Critical approval and positive audience reaction, reflected in consistent 80% scores for the latest DC Extended Universe installment Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, officially known as Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), don’t seem to be helping the film’s box office numbers, after its $33 million opening weekend landed it in the company of some of the worst financial performers in the history of DC’s cinematic endeavors.
Though most reviewers have praised Margot Robbie’s portrayal of the newly-upgraded title character, a role she reprises from David Ayer’s 2016 villain team-up film Suicide Squad, a dedicated minority of viewers continue to criticize the Australian’s depiction of the psychiatrist-turned-sociopath, and DC Comics writer Jimmy Palmiotti took to Twitter recently to have words with them:

Christopher Priest talks Deathstroke, storytelling, and where he's leaving his hit DC comic.
Christopher Priest is one of the best comic writers of all time. His career spans almost 40 years now, and in that time he's had his hands on just about every big name superhero character out there - Captain America, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Justice League. You name it and he's probably written it. His most famous work is probably his defining run on Black Panther, a run that greatly informed the tone of the ultra-popular cinematic take.
So when DC announced he was coming back to comics, we were understandably excited. When they said it was for Deathstroke, we were puzzled for a second, and very quickly overjoyed. To be more specific, Variety reports that he’s currently in talks to star in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
Right now, it’s unknown which character Cena would potentially play in the upcoming blockbuster, but theories are already swirling. Considering how the Polka Dot Man and Peacemaker had previously been rumored, it could be either one of those. Conversely, the former WWE Champion may be suiting up as any number of characters to have appeared in a comic book penned by the likes of Jon Ostrander, Adam Glass or Rob Williams.

AfterShock Comics is teaming with Fox 21 TV Studios and producer Warren Littlefield on an adaptation of Adam Glass’ sci-fi horror series The Normals for television.
Created and written by Glass, The Normals is centered around one man who finds out his perfect life and family may all be an illusion, setting him on a crusade to save what he believes is real and loves with all his being, while having to save the world in the process as forces seek to destroy him.
“Sci-Fi is always asking the question, ‘What does it mean to be human?’” said Glass, who is under a development deal with Fox 21. “Our story takes a look at that question and explores the idea that to be human is to feel fear; and that’s the lense we will be looking through in our storytelling.”

The horror Irt Matt Simmons faced with his team trying to get them free of a shootout was bad enough, you'd think.
Simmons may be the one in the hot seat featured below, but he's not going to be the only one.
On Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders Season 2 Episode 9, the entire team will be facing judgment for losing a suspect.
Keeping up the Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders Season 2 tradition of importing Supernatural actors for various roles on the series, "Blowback" puts to good use two favorites from Executive Producer Adam Glass' old haunt.
Jim Beaver, known to Supernatural fans as Bobby, and Kim Rhodes, known to fans as Sheriff Jodi Mills, are the two stone-faced government officials questioning the International Response Team.
They may be fun and kind on Supernatural, but they're packing an intimidating punch as interrogators.
It's always fun seeing characters from one show on another, and...

Fresh off a thrilling episode featuring Supernatural faves Rob Benedict and Richard Speight, Jr., we're getting our first taste of what hunky and talented Matt Cohen will do with his role as Jack's son, Ryan on Criminal Minds Season 2 Episode 7.
From what little information I have, it's going to be a stunner!!
On "La Huesuda," the International Response Team is called to Tijuana when a night of partying ends tragically for an 18-year-old American student.
Coincidentally, Jack also makes a discovery of his own while tooling around Mexico.
His son, Ryan, is working undercover with the Mexican drug cartels.
Is that a strange way for the worlds of father and son to meet up or what?
The two men are going to have to come to come to terms with what it means for both father and son to be in the business.
Even if it's being done as part of an operation,...

It's hard to believe the Kings of Con (Supernatural Con, that is) never shared an episode during the 12-season run that's helped to make them adored by so many.
But thanks to executive producer Adam Glass of Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (who was also a producer on Supernatural from 2010-15), Rob Benedict and Richard Speight, Jr., have filmed their first episode of network television together!!
We had the opportunity to speak with both men about their guest starring roles, their friendship, the cross-pollination of the Supernatural family a lot more. Check out excerpts of our conversations with both Rob and Richard below.
On Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders Season 2 Episode 5, two American entrepreneurs, best friends, go missing when they go to Bangladesh to finalize a deal with regards to their new clothing line.
The Americans, Rob and David, are played by Richard Speight, Jr, and Rob Benedict, respectively. What were the...

They're almost here!!
Our favorite and most loyal Supernatural duo will find themselves in some hot water on Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders Season 2 Episode 5.
Rob Benedict and Richard Speight, Jr. guest star on "Made In..." as two Americans caught in a robbery gone bad.
All eyes will want to be pointed toward CBS on Wednesday, April 5 when Robbie and David, two American entrepreneurs doing business in Bangladesh, go missing.
It will be the International Response Team to the rescue!!
You'd think God would have the ability to get them out of the situation...but wait! That's another show entirely.
Remember why all of the Supernatural actors are coming to Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.
Adam Glass is the executive producer! As a former writer and Ep on Supernatural, he's using his connections.
We already have Jack's son being portrayed by Matt Cohen (also known as young John Winchester).

Since January has given us an extra week, we decided to do a special Kickstarter episode! Sometimes there are amazing comic book creators who’s fantastic ideas could use a bit of help from fans in order to get us a finished book. We are featuring two great writers who are starting Kickstarter campaigns to promote their titles. From the LRMOnline family we have Kat Kalamia and Omar Morales writer for “Cruzader: Agent of the Vatican” and Guinness World Record holder for the largest comic book published. Kat is promoting her title “Life Father, Like Daughter” and Omar talks about the “Not Forgotten” anthology he is working on. We then venture into our Top 5 independent comics and finish off with the books for the week!

Hour 4 is on the wire and ready for your consumption!
About the hour:
As this hour starts we check in a with a collector who seems to have priorities different than most of us. I discuss more of my personal history with collecting Criterion including an embarrassing (for me) email conversation with Mr. Jon Mulvaney. Plus a bit more on my current obsession with Criterion laser titles and where this all ends (if it ever does).
Our conversation this hour is with two lifelong chums with a history of collaboration that has taken on a life of its own as they’ve become Lost in Criterion. Adam Glass and Pat Dorgan help me understand what it is like for two people to dive headfirst into the collection with few preconceived notions on where it would take them and what sort of visionquest it has been so far.
All of that,...
