While "House of the Dragon" hasn't shied away from a lot of major deaths in its first season alone, one character actually has managed to get a less brutal ending than his book counterpart. We're talking, of course, about Laenor Velaryon, Rhaenyra Targaryen's first husband who meets a tragic end on the page but gets a happy(ish) send-off on screen. With a second season already in the works, we're starting to wonder if Laenor could make another appearance down the line.
Is Laenor in the Dance of the Dragons in the Book?
The book "Fire & Blood" seems pretty clear on this: Laenor has no role to play in the civil war. According to the book's historians, he dies several years before King Viserys I dies and the war begins. Reportedly, he quarrels with one of his "favorites" (aka lovers), Ser Qarl Correy, in a marketplace one day. The resulting...

“House of the Dragon” Season 1 concludes on Sunday (October 23), and will surely end in reconciliation, laughter, joy, and general warm fuzzies.
Or not.
The “Game of Thrones” prequel series is guaranteed to finish the season with heartbreak, bloodshed, and agonizing cliffhangers, because, well, that’s what we all signed up for. In anticipation of the Season 1 finale (and the long wait for Season 2), here are 10 burning questions we have leading up to Episode 10.
1. Is Corlys Ok?
Corlys Velaryon, Lord of the Tides, has apparently been at war in the Stepstones for six years and suffered a severe injury and fever of late. The Sea Snake is down two children and a brother, but most importantly he is awesome and we had hoped to see more of him. With Viserys gone, the realm needs a king, but it also needs a daddy. Here’s hoping Corlys makes an epic entrance during...

HBO's "Game of Thrones" prequel, "House of the Dragon," introduces us to a slew of historical Targaryens, centuries before Daenerys's quest for the Iron Throne. Two of the most significant members of the complicated family tree are Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen, and their relationship is both incredibly important and incredibly tangled. In the fourth episode of "House of the Dragon," the pair kiss in a brothel, and when rumors that they were intimate together reach the king, Daemon tries to get Viserys to let him marry his niece Rhaenyra. The king refuses, but their story doesn't end there, because by episode eight, they're married. Spoilers ahead for both the book "Fire & Blood" and for "House of the Dragon"!

Are Rhaenyra and Daemon Related?
Like many other Targaryens, Daemon and Rhaenyra are both related by blood and (eventually) romantically involved.

This post contains major spoilers for the latest episode of "House of the Dragon" and the book "Fire & Blood."
If there is one thing we know about "House of the Dragon" and its predecessor, "Game of Thrones," it's that endings for characters are rarely happy. Weddings, which are supposed to be celebrations, largely end in death. People are murdered all over the place for political expediency. Remarkably few are spared the consequences of politics and power.
While we can argue whether Sansa, Tyrion, and Bran are really as happy as Arya Stark out on the open sea, most of their fellow characters died miserably in "Game of Thrones." "House of the Dragon" wasn't shaping up to be any better ... until the end of episode seven. Unlike "Game of Thrones," I haven't read the book "House of the Dragon" is based on. So the shocking fate of one character left me bowled over,...

On "House of the Dragon," we've already come to expect plenty of shocking, cruel deaths. One such character who has always seemed marked for a tragic end is Laenor Velaryon, the first husband of Rhaenyra Targaryen. The show, as well as its source-material book, "Fire & Blood," has made it clear her ultimate fate is to be with her uncle, Daemon, meaning Laenor has to go at some point. This time, however, the TV adaptation found a creative way to meet expectations while also tweaking Laenor's ultimate fate.
Laenor's "House of the Dragon" Ending, Explained
When we catch up with Laenor and his family in episode seven, life is something of a mixed bag. Although he and Rhaenyra are not in love (obviously), they care very much about each other and "their" sons. They share a vulnerable conversation, during which Laenor laments not being able to be a "true" husband and...

Fire & Blood book readers have been left blindsided by the ending of the latestHouse of the Dragon episode.
The HBO spin-off is based on George Rr Martin’s book, which charts the history of the Targaryens.
While the series has been whittling through events depicted in the novel for the past seven weeks, readers were surprised to see the show switch up one of its most brutal twists.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
The moment in question surrounds Laenor, who is killed off so that his wife Rhaenyra can marry her uncle Daemon, which she believes will strengthen her claim to the throne.
The episode shows Rhaenyra (Emma D’’Arcy) conspiring with Daemon (Matt Smith) about convincing Laenor’s secret lover Ser Qarl Correy (Arty Froushan) to kill her husband Laenor (John MacMillan) in a duel.

This article contains House of the Dragon episode 7 spoilers.
Laenor Velaryon is alive. This revelation sent shockwaves through the House of the Dragon viewing community, astonishing book readers and the unsullied alike. Before the moment where a newly shorn Laenor (played briefly but poignantly by John Macmillan) removed his hood, viewers were led to believe they were witnessing the darkest moment of cruel betrayals: Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), Princess of Dragonstone and wife of Laenor, appeared to conspire in the murder of her husband. And, indeed, someone was definitely lying dead in a fire, adorned in Laenor’s clothes.
Yet the son of Driftmark lives still, even if in doing so he has now abandoned his titles and ancestral home in favor of a life at sea and presumably in Essos—a land where a man’s gold is more valuable than his name.

This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon episode 7.
Both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are no strangers to earth-shattering twists. Even with that in mind, however, the closing moments of episode 7 “Driftmark” are particularly shocking.
After a languid, damn near leisurely episode, the closing scenes of House of the Dragon‘s seventh installment step on the gas for a series of truly chaotic reveals. Uncle-niece duo Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) make their union official in the eyes of the gods. Simultaneously, something really bad happens to Rhaenyra’s current husband Ser Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan)…or does it?
Things move swiftly here and there’s a decent chance you may have missed what really happened. With that in mind, let’s break down “Driftmark’s” ending and what it means for the series.

HBO’s House of the Dragon season one episode seven opens on Lady Laena’s funeral. But before we discuss that somber event, here’s a quick recap of the key events of episode six.
Episode six introduced the adult versions of Alicent and Rhaenyra, and the battle lines moved from being etched in pencil to drawn in ink. Prince Daemon lost his second wife, Lady Laena, who died after ordering her dragon to give her a dragonrider’s death by fire. And Larys Strong elevated his position by ordering the murder of his father and brother, effectively making himself Lord of Harrenhal while forcing Alicent to be in his debt.
And now, a recap of episode seven – “Driftmark.”
The Velaryons, Targaryens, and other key figures gather for Lady Laena’s funeral at Driftmark.

Losing a crew member is always hard, but Star Trek's significant result: Discovery Season 3 Episode 10 was largely expected since the news broke back in January of 2019 that Michelle Yeoh would be getting her own series.
However, how they would arrive that her departure was unknown, and this two-parter teased many Terran Universe Fans with the possibility of a Lorca return among the infinite number of potential Mirror Universe implications for our Prime Universe heroes.
But, although Qarl would have us think differently, I still feel that Georgiou's three-month sojourn was a pocket dimension for her weighing rather than actual time travel as the ramifications of that make my brain hurt.
Specifically, it would mean that Georgiou dies before Lorca brings Discovery over on Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 Episode 9, and the cascade effect of Georgiou never joining the crew are unthinkable, really.
Wait, let's go with alternate, branching timelines.
