The Xbox Games Showcase is one of the biggest events of the gaming calendar, and after PlayStation’s State of Play and Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, it presents the last big opportunity for gamers to see what’s in store for the following couple of years, at least until Gamescom in August.
Geoff Keighley (of Summer Game Fest fame) went public with his attempt at downplaying the hype around his own showcase this year, which was a first, and with the poor showing of PlayStation, many believe this points to a bumper year for the Xbox Games Showcase.
As with any other showcase, we’ve taken the time to try and figure out the most, least, and completely unlikely predictions for what we may see in the showcase!

God of War is confirmed not to be part of the lineup in Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest for this year. Members of the gaming community were optimistic to see the franchise make a return unfortunately, the man behind the games has spoken and players should move on.
Keighley released a full list of games that were confirmed not to be part of the show, which gave the fans a glimmer of hope only to be snuffed out by director Cory Barlog. Although PlayStation will be participating in the event, there is a low likelihood of any major first-party titles.

God of War fans are not surprised that the franchise is excluded from the live show.
The iconic PlayStation franchise won’t be part of the show, despite the PC port for God of War Ragnarök being revealed during the State of Play.

While Summer Game Fest hasn’t been able to replace the E3-sized hole in our hearts quite yet, it has certainly become the biggest gaming event of the season. That also means that it is subject to the same series of leaks, rumors, and popular predictions that precede such events.
Truth be told, those going into this even expecting a monumental showcase of the biggest upcoming games will likely walk away from Sgf at least slightly disappointed. Still, here are some of the more notable rumblings about the event you should know about.
Don’t Expect Many Major New Game Announcements
To get the bad news out of the way, Summer Game Fest organizer Geoff Keighley has already made it clear that you shouldn’t expect too many major new announcements at Sgf. There will be some reveals, but the show will largely focus on “existing games that have new updates for fans.

2024 will mark the first Summer Game Fest that has taken place since the formal demise of E3. With the competition officially dead and buried, the gaming industry staple that is Geoff Keighley now theoretically has a clear run to claim all of the huge announcements for himself. With that being said, we are already aware that 2024 is going to be a quieter year in terms of significant game releases.
In fact, Geoff has actually already attempted to quell the hype levels somewhat through his Q&a, claiming that the show will be an eight out of ten. Although, the tinfoil hat wearers amongst the community have claimed that his statement was nothing more than a cheap ploy to throw audiences off.

Prepare your virtual reality helmets: Batman: Arkham Shadow, a new VR action game for Meta Quest 3, is due out in late 2024.

Kojima-san gave the world one of the most popular stealth game franchises, Metal Gear Solid, which first came out all the way back in 1987. The games got contagiously popular as he redefined the stealth genre, over the guns-blazing approach like the other games of that period.

As the franchise continued to grow, the series only got better, leaving its players thoroughly entertained, as it featured exciting and unique gameplay features, leaving its users surprised. Despite being a game designer, the Death Stranding 2 designer has an immense love for movies and has some dreams of working behind the cameras. However, he doubts those dreams will ever become a reality because he has a compelling justification to not pursue his other dream.

Ghost of Tsushima 2 might be among the sought-after games right now, but the attention seems to have been diverted a little. After the new Wolf Among Us 2 screenshots developed in Unreal Engine 5 went viral, the game and excitement for it has reached the ‘peak’ it seems.

The Wolf Among Us was released over a decade ago, and a sequel was announced in 2019. Initially due for release in 2023, The Wolf Among Us 2 was delayed as the team wanted to move from Unreal Engine 4 to the more advanced UE5.
As the future of the sequel looked uncertain, Telltale Games confirmed in a recent community post that the game is still in development. The developer told fans that there hasn’t been any news because the team is focusing on the game. The post read,
“We’ve been quiet because we’ve been heads down, focusing on the promise of #TWAU2.”
While Telltale did not share any further details, it did guarantee The Fabletown gang’s return and treated fans to 4 new in-game images, showing the game in all its UE5 glory.

Fans have been awaiting the next Bigby Wolf adventure since The Wolf Among Us 2 was announced in 2019. Excitement rose when Telltale Games recently confirmed the game’s production. Now as new images surface on the internet, speculations could transpire surrounding the central protagonist’s next journey. The Layoff trend continues to spread as Take-Two Interactive announced their plans to cut headcount. Hopefully, this won’t affect GTA 6‘s development as there are rumors that the move may affect several projects. The industry has been hit hard recently with the likes of Microsoft, Sony, Embracer, and more, cutting a large number of jobs.
Rockstar Games, the subsidiary of Take-Two, is currently working on Grand Theft Auto 6 which is said to arrive at some point next year. However, the news is that it too is likely to get delayed after the decision was made. The game has already been through a rocky road as far as the development is concerned, including Arion Kurtaj’s doing.
It’s a Tough Time for the Gaming Industry as the Layoff Trend Continues Take-Two Interactive is laying 5% of its workforce across its portfolio.
The Internet has been swarming from the debates surrounding Take-Two’s decisions.

The BAFTA Game Awards are a celebration of talent and contributions to the entertainment industry, and voice actors like Yuri Lowenthal and Neil Newbon are soaking up the rare occasion. The gaming community naturally assumes that there is a secret rivalry between the two yet the opposite is shown in public.
Both actors were also in the running for Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards last year for best performer and while Neil took home the trophy, Yuri was still a winner in the hearts and eyes of fans.

Acclaimed developer Hideo Kojima has several highly anticipated projects in the works, including Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and the mysterious Od. In a recent post on Twitter/X, fellow beloved game director, Sam Lake, of Remedy Entertainment posted a video of himself in the process of getting digitally scanned for inclusion in an upcoming video game for Kojima Productions.
Fans of both directors are now clamoring for more information on this exciting collaboration. Many fans have begun to speculate on what game this collaboration could relate to, with the consensus generally being that it is most likely for On the Beach.

Now that the Call of Duty developer Activision Blizzard falls under the Microsoft banner, it won’t be long before the developer title comes out as an Xbox exclusive. While the newer titles may come out as exclusives, there is a possibility that an older batch of Call of Duty games will come on Game Pass in the near future.
A still from Call of Duty
According to the latest report, the older Call of Duty games may soon be coming to Xbox Game Pass. If all the rumor turns out to be true, that also raises a possibility that Activision Blizzard could bring their extensive catalog of other games too to come to Xbox’s subscription service soon. BioShock creator Ken Levine has shown off some new gameplay details for his upcoming Judas to select outlets, and the old BioShock DNA is unmistakeable.
There’s an awful lot of chat about “narrative Lego” in the various news posts swirling around about Judas, the next game from BioShock designer Ken Levine. It’s a phrase Levine first brought up about a decade ago when he first started talking publicly about his first project since 2013’s BioShock Infinite, and is shorthand for the way Judas uses discrete blocks of plot to construct a unique story for each player.
Over the past few weeks or so, Levine’s new studio, Ghost Story Games, has invited a couple of journalists from big, posh outlets to sample Judas first-hand. Both IGN's Ryan McCaffrey and The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley have made videos in which they interview Ken Levine and play through his ambitious-sounding action-adventure.

Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s latest and possibly greatest project thus far, and the studio has more plans for future content like the Shadow of the Erdtree Dlc coming soon but fans are also interested in a sequel for the game that came before after reaching an incredible milestone of 10 million copies of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki is proud of the studio’s accomplishments and could always look back and develop more stories for older games.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice came out in 2019 and even won Game of the Year during Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards, and captured the same lightning twice with Elden Ring for winning Game of the Year 2022. Video games have been a part of the Baftas since 1998. In 2004, the Bafta Game Awards was launched as a standalone event to showcase the exceptional creativity and storytelling involved in the makings of video games. However, two decades later, the US counterpart of the Baftas, the Emmys, and the Oscars have failed to replicate the integration taking place in the UK with the video game industry firmly out of question at the prestigious awards.

GameScent is an AI-powered device which aims to make games more immersive by adding smells to your environment. More on that below.
If you’ve ever gunned down people, burned rubber on a race course or faced heavy rain in any video game and thought to yourself “this really is missing the smell of fresh blood and guts or wet clothes”, we’ve got some great news for you.
Game Scent uses AI to release a relevant scent from their device into the air, to hopefully make your gaming experience a little bit more immersive.
The device, which is a hexagonal black box, can be loaded up with different scents (obviously sold separately) and the system will then analyse the audio cues of your media to release the relevant scent. The device claims to be compatible with all gaming systems, as well as VR systems and PC gaming, even streaming platforms.

“In a horror story, there are only monsters and victims,” says a voiceover. “And the trick is to become neither.” This new, and grim, adventure follows beloved writer Alan Wake, who has disappeared and become trapped in a nightmare in the frightening town of Bright Falls, Washington, where he’s already had paranormal experiences in the first installment of the franchise.
Investigating his disappearance is FBI agent Saga Anderson, who finds herself embroiled in a series of unexplained events — a horror story written by Wake himself.

Since 2020, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest has served as a solid replacement for E3. Well, E3 is probably permanently dead now, but the Summer Game Fest will go on as planned.
The Summer Game Fest will kick off Thursday, June 8. Unlike most online gaming streams these days, the Summer Game Fest isn’t just an hour-long showcase (the event is called a “fest” for a reason). The ceremony will actually consist of eight streams over four days. The first, which will start at 3 Pm Edt/Noon Pdt, will consist of Keighley hosting a massive showcase. This stream will be followed by Day of the Devs at 5 Pm Edt/2 Pm Pdt, which will focus on indie games from studios like iam8bit and Double Fine. And one hour after that, Devolver Digital will grace audiences with their annual stream of game announcements and good-natured ribbing.

While E3 is probably never coming back, we may have found a suitable replacement in the form of Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. However, even though we now have a new king of game announcement trailers, we still have to deal with the age-old tradition of leaks and rumors. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
With Summer Game Fest 2023 drawing closer, the internet has started kicking up a storm of speculation. Every gamer and their grandmother has posted lists of titles they want to see during the event, and more than a few have posted insider info (or what they claimed is insider info) of what audiences can expect. Given the sheer number of these posts, it’s difficult to separate what will probably show up and what is a fanciful dream, but we’re gonna try.

HBO and HBO Max’s video game adaptation “The Last of Us” was already a massive hit right out of the gate, but the show’s viewership is only growing even stronger in week two.
While “The Last of Us” debuted with 4.7 million day-of viewers for its premiere episode last week, this past Sunday night’s second episode pulled in a whopping 5.7 million viewers!
Geoff Keighley (The Game Awards) notes on Twitter, “This marks the largest week 2 audience growth for an HBO Original drama series in the history of the network.”
This number represents the Sunday night total between HBO and HBO Max, and Sunday night viewership only represents 20-40 of a show’s total gross audience per episode.
For example, the premiere episode is currently up to 18 million total viewers!
For the sake of comparison, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” posted similar live viewer numbers in its debut season,...
