Back in March, Vicky Krieps returned to her hometown to serve as jury president at the 14th edition of the Luxembourg City Film Festival. “I did one in Deauville and one in Munich,” Krieps explained to me one recent morning around the festival’s halfway point, “so all these small festivals, and I love film festivals. To me, film festivals are the whole point of everything right now. It’s all going away, and if we don’t have the festivals, we don’t have all the dishes on the table. Like, there’s no colors. Right now, festivals are the only place you get all the colors, you know?”

In the heart of Western Europe, above the gorge of the Alzette river, sits Luxembourg City, a trash-free Eurotopia where the trams are free and the streets are ranked amongst the safest in the world. It’s a long way away from the frontier justice of The Dead Don’t Hurt, a revisionist Western about love in a lawless place written and directed by, and also starring Viggo Mortensen, who––never one to slouch––also composed the film’s score. “I did the score for my first movie as well,” the endearingly polite and casually plaid-shirted polymath explained to me on a recent morning at the Lux Film Fest, “that one took a long time to get financed, longer than this one, and while I was waiting, I was trying to think, ‘What can I do?’ I’ve got the script where I want it, I have the main actor, Lance Henriksen,...

Shiloh Jolie Paid For Her Lawyer To Help Deop “Ptt” Surname. (Photo Credit – Koimoi)
Brad Pitt’s and Angelina Jolie’s 18-year-old daughter Shiloh reportedly paid for her lawyer to help legally drop her father’s last name. Late last month, Shiloh, a tented dancer, filed court documents seeking to change her name from “Shiloh Jolie-Pitt” to “Shiloh Jolie.”
Shiloh followed in her two siblings Zahara and Vivienne’s footsteps in distancing themselves from their famous father, Brad Pitt, who has been embroiled in a contentious legal battle with Jolie ever since she filed for divorce in 2016. It is unclear if Zahara and Vivienne, who identified themselves only using their mother’s surname this year at separate events, have taken the legal route to drop “Pitt” from their names.
However, a source told Entertainment Tonight that “Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself” to drop the “Pitt’ surname.

Few big new studio wide releases, yes, but Viggo Mortensen’s latest is on 700 screens, plus limited openings for Chris Wilcha’s Flipside, Judd Apatow EP, and Spanish animated, Oscar-nominated Robot Dreams from Neon. Bleecker Street’s family drama Ezra and IFC Films’ arthouse slasher In A Violent Nature are technically wide but both well under 1,500 screens.
Viggo Mortensen directed, wrote and stars in Western The Dead Don’t Hurt presented by Shout! Studios on 730 screens. The story of star-crossed lovers on the western U.S. frontier in the 1860s sees Vivienne Le Coudy (Vicky Krieps), a fiercely independent woman, settle in Nevada with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Mortensen). But the outbreak of the Civil War separates them as Olsen goes to fight with the Union army, leaving Vivienne alone in a town full of corrupt officials. Premiered in Toronto, see Deadline review. It’s Mortensen’s second outing behind the camera since 2020’s Falling.

Viggo Mortenson’s sophomore directorial offering features some exceptional performances from the actor-turned-director and his cast. The Dead Don’t Hurt follows the story of two pioneers (Mortensen and Vicky Krieps) as they fight for their lives and their love on the American frontier during a deadly Civil War.
HeyUGuys spoke to Mortensen and his cast about the importance of telling the story of how the West was made from the stand point of those who have never been given a voice before in the Western genre.
Krieps talked of her love for the character of Vivienne, a woman more than capable to stand on her own two feet in a man’s world. We also spoke to actor Danny Huston – son of legendary Hollywood filmmaker John Huston – about his love for the western genre and what it meant to him to be part of such an exciting project.

From the second scene of Mortensen’s second feature, “The Dead Don’t Hurt” (following 2020’s excellent father-son drama “Following”), audiences know the fate of Vivienne LeCoudy (Vicky Krieps). A resilient French Canadian pioneer woman left alone for years, Vivienne dies at home in bed, a single tear making tracks on her dusty cheek. For no good reason, Mortensen opts to tell her story out of order, flashing back to Vivienne’s childhood (to show the character-defining disappearance of her fur-trapper father) and carrying on past her death to reveal whether her absentee partner (played by Mortensen) manages to avenge what happened to her.

Review: Just when you thought you’d seen every variation on the Western comes Viggo Mortensen‘s The Dead Don’t Hurt, which marks his second film as a director following the Sundance hit Falling. Mortensen, who also produced, wrote, and composed the music, co-stars with Vicky Krieps in what could best be called a deconstructed western. The premise is pretty old school in that Mortensen is a sheriff seeking to avenge the brutal rape of his lover...

The American Western may have long passed its heyday, but the genre has endured throughout the years. While the visuals and ideas it addresses may change, the basic foundation continues to draw fans. After all, where else can you pit man versus man versus the environment on such a large scale? The Dead Don’t Hurt seeks to continue this legacy. The sophomore feature from Viggo Mortensen finally debuts in America after hitting the fall festival circuit. Featuring an excellent performance from Vicky Krieps as its face, The Dead Don’t Hurt mostly plays like a traditional genre exercise. However, using an immigrant couple at its center speaks to the changing landscape in American life.
The Dead Don’t Hurt Plot
Vivienne Le Coudy (Krieps) passes away with her husband, Holger (Mortensen), at her side. At the same time, Mayor Rudolph Schiller (Danny Huston) requests Holger help bring a local crime to justice.

Viggo Mortensen needed just the right sword. Then he realized he had the perfect one at home.
Mortensen’s latest film is The Dead Don’t Hurt, a Western set in the 1860s that follows free-spirited Vivienne (Vicky Krieps), a Franco-Canadian who falls in love with Holger (Mortensen), a Danish rancher. When Holger goes off to fight in the American Civil War, Vivienne is left alone to fight in her own war at home.
Mortensen spoke to British GQ to discuss his new film. It was mentioned that in one fantasy sequence, you can see what looks like his sword, Andúril, from Lord of the Rings.
“We had everything for this sequence with a knight. We had found this great, spirited horse, the right kind of saddle, and we made a medieval kind of blanket, and we had the costume for the knight,” Mortensen said. “Everything was right, and then I said,...

The daughter of Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has dropped her father’s last name from The Outsiders musical Playbill. The 15-year-old is credited as “Vivienne Jolie” instead of “Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.” Vivienne is the second of the former couple’s children to omit their father’s surname. However, it is still unclear if Vivienne legally changed her name.
Zahara, the eldest daughter, went by “Zahara Marley Jolie” in November 2023 at Spelman College. Pitt has had a strained relationship with his children after Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. Pitt has been criticized by his own children for alleged abuse.
One of their sons, Pax Jolie-Pitt, called Pitt a “world-class a——” on Father’s Day 2020 in a private Instagram post. Pax called out Pitt for having “no consideration or empathy towards [his] four youngest children.”
In new court filings in April, Jolie also accused Pitt of abuse before the 2016 plane incident.

In a rare sighting, Angelina Jolie and her daughter Vivienne were pictured at The Outsiders Broadway musical’s opening night on Thursday at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City.
I anticipated it, though, since Jolie, the musical producer, revealed last year that she had recruited her 15-year-old daughter Vivienne as her assistant for her Broadway project. What surprised me was Vivienne’s commitment to her work.

Clad in a gold gown with a tan cape, Jolie said in an interview with People during the opening night that her youngest daughter takes her role as an assistant on the production “very, very seriously.”
“She’s been a really tough assistant,” said Jolie, adding that Vivienne “corrects” her. “She’ll say, ‘Didn’t you read the memo?...

Since MCU’s Eternals, Angelina Jolie has remained out of the public spotlight until recently, as she joined her youngest daughter at the red carpet premiere of her Broadway show. Hinton’s The Outsiders.
The Oscar winner recalled that Vivienne, who worked as an assistant on the stage adaptation, was pretty committed to her job, and didn’t shy away from schooling Jolie on several instances.

Los Angeles, April 5 (Ians) Hollywood star Angelina Jolie is claiming that her former husband Brad Pitt’s physical abuse toward her “started well before” the 2016 plane incident that led her to file for divorce.

Looks like 2024 is the year of the “Bullet Train” actor Brad Pitt. The odds have been in his favor as he kept gaining victory upon victory over his ex-wife Angelina Jolie.
After the former couple tied the knot in 2014 and split two years later, their divorce procedure was nothing to write home about as it was such a bitter experience for both of them.
When they finally finalized their divorce in 2019, the battle for who takes full custody of their children began.
In May 2021, The “World War Z” actor won 50-50 joint legal and physical custody of his children which he shares with the “Maleficent” actress. The children have been living with Jolie in her $25 million Los Angeles mansion.
Recently, a source told “InTouch Weekly” that Shiloh, who will soon turn 18 in May, wants to relocate to her dad’s $8 million mansion in Los Feliz, California.

Viggo Mortensen really puts the word multi-hyphenate to good use for his second directorial effort The Dead Don’t Hurt as he also wrote, co-stars in and composes the music for this distinctive Western film, which played at the Glasgow Film Festival earlier this week after world premiering to critical acclaim at the Toronto Film Festival last year.
The film, which was acquired for the U.S. by Shout! Studios last month and is being released in the UK by Signature Entertainment, is a story of star-crossed lovers on the western U.S. frontier in the 1860s. It follows Vivienne Le Coudy, played by Vicky Krieps (who was honored with the TIFF Tribute Performer Award), a fiercely independent woman who embarks on a relationship with Danish immigrant Holgen Olsen (Mortensen). After meeting Olsen in San Francisco, she agrees to travel with him to his home in the quiet town of Elk Flats,...

And they often do their best to stand out from the rest. This can lead to some wild style choices, especially during Fashion Month. Here are the wackiest looks spotted at Paris Fashion Week 2024.

The “Snow In LA” singer echoed the Berlin-based label’s punk aesthetic with thick black eyeliner and bleached eyebrows. The 24-year-old cast a ghostly shadow with her slicked-back hair and pieces of fabric hanging off her chest and waist.

At the end of 2022, I was given the Goliath task of explaining to our readers (and much of our staff) why the internet had gone completely feral over the animated design of the Devil Daddy himself, Lucifer Morningstar, on "Hazbin Hotel." Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano debuted the animated musical pilot for "Hazbin Hotel" on YouTube in 2019, funded entirely by Medrano's Patreon followers and brought to life completely by freelance animators. It quickly went viral and generated a diehard fanbase, one that exists on the fringes of fandom circles and well outside of four-quadrant entertainment.
It's adult animation, but too edgy for the constraints of something like "The Simpsons." It's as raunchy as "South Park," but caters to a queerer audience base. It boasts a Broadway cast as impressive as "Central Park," but without the "Hamilton" name recognition to excite your mom. "Hazbin Hotel" is what happens when you grow up watching...

[This story contains mild spoilers for season one of Hazbin Hotel.]
“On paper, there’s a lot of people that might say no to something like this — a very raunchy animated musical comedy world written by a young woman,” Hazbin Hotel star Stephanie Beatriz tells The Hollywood Reporter. But for the Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Encanto actress, showrunner Vivienne Medrano’s “weird, cool, fantastical imagination” has produced a series that is not only “delightfully horny, unhinged and ridiculous,” but uniquely special beyond its “small minutiae of cock jokes.
“It somehow manages to have this throughline of true gay love and this very big idea about whether it’s possible to redeem a soul, to change after being damned for all time,” she says of A24’s first foray into animation and Prime Video’s latest push into the medium’s R-rated adult space. “I just love Vivienne’s world-building.”
Broadway star and lead voice actress Erika Henningsen offers similar praise.
