Joe Biden and Donald Trump will face off in two debates ahead of this year’s presidential election. The first will air live on CNN on June 27, and the second will be hosted by ABC on Sept. 10.
Earlier in the morning, Biden posted a video on X prodding Trump to debate him. In it, Biden made fun of Trump’s ongoing criminal trial for hush money payments, referencing how Trump’s trial skips meeting on Wednesday.
“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then, he hasn’t shown up for a debate,” Biden said. “Now, he’s acting like he wants to debate me again. Well, make my day, pal. I’ll even do it twice. So let’s pick the dates, Donald. I heard you’re free on Wednesdays.”

Langley teed up a new trailer for “Wicked,” a treat just for those attending the presentation at Radio City Music Hall, and promised it will drop wide later this week.

Maya Rudolph is back as host of NBC’s Saturday Night Live and she’s doing what she does best—imitating Queen Beyoncé.
In her best “Texas Hold Em” ensemble, Rudolph appeared in a sketch as the multi-Grammy Award-winning artist on her second visit to the popular YouTube chat series Hot Ones, where celebrities eat spicy hot wings while being interviewed. Her first time in a Hot Ones sketch was three years ago.
“Giddy up, let’s go,” she tells Sean Evans (Mikey Day) as she prepares to sample some of the spiciest sauces she’s ever had. After her first taste, she says, “That’s a tasty wing and it’s not that spicy. I’m from Texas, baby. Your girl likes it caliente.”

It was all about mothers at the top of this week’s pre-Mother’s Day Saturday Night Live.
The variety show dispensed with its typical topical cold open for one that featured SNL castmembers sharing moments with their moms.
Kenan Thompson kicked off the show, appearing on the Studio 8H stage with his mom because, he said, “it’s “Mother’s Day in about 29 minutes,” which, she declared, meant there was still “plenty of time to buy a gift.”
“With so many upsetting stories in the world right now, we thought we’d take a break from a regular cold open and hear some heartwarming stories from our moms instead.”
Still Thompson’s mom said she wanted to see who would play Stormy Daniels in a cold open focused on the porn star’s testimony in former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial. That wasn’t the only reference to...

Maya Rudolph opened the Mother’s Day episode of “Saturday Night Live” with a tribute to mothers — in every sense of the term.
Hosting the sketch show’s penultimate episode of the season, Rudolph began her monologue by noting she’s a four-time mom herself. “But Maya, look — you’re not just a mom,” cast member Bowen Yang reminded her. “You’re mother,” invoking the term’s use in queer slang to describe powerful, aspirational women. “You were the first to slay the house down boots, queen!”
“Who me, mother?” Rudolph asked, feigning shock. “You’re right!” The host then launched into a propulsive dance number, strutting through Studio 8H — also known as “House of Rockefeller” — in a reflective bodysuit while delivering lyrics like “Oops, I made you dance / Remember in that movie when I pooped my pants?” Other lines played on the many meanings of “mother”: “Who’s...

When Chicago-based filmmakers Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson first came across our radar with their charming “Saint Frances,” it was clear we were witnessing the birth of a powerhouse pair of indie filmmakers. Even in that first film, which marked Thompson’s feature directorial debut and that O’Sullivan both wrote and starred in, what would become their signature was obvious: a canny combination of heart and humor that go beyond basic loglines.
“Saint Frances” was eventually nominated for three Gotham Awards and the Indie Spirits’ vaunted John Cassavetes Award, and when chatting with IndieWire about their delightful gem, the pair even admitted that simple plotlines don’t quite do their works justice. “Saint Frances” comes with what seems like a downer of a description: “After an accidental pregnancy turned abortion, a deadbeat nanny finds an unlikely friendship with the 6-year-old she’s charged with protecting.” As the duo told...

Recording artist Dua Lipa just released her latest album this past week, so there's no better time for the pop star to pull double duty as the host and musical guest of "Saturday Night Live." Of course, her first time taking on the honor unfortunately comes after Ryan Gosling hosted a banger of an episode, packed with viral gems like the Beavis and Butt-Head sketch. But if your expectations were firmly in check, then you probably enjoyed this lukewarm, fairly amusing but not raucously hilarious episode of "SNL."
Thankfully, Dua Lipa turned out to be a solid host alongside her musical guest duties. She was game to jump into a variety of characters, didn't severely derail any sketches with subpar performances, and she was even willing to make jokes at her own expense during the monologue. However, the sketches were not exactly of the highest quality, and though Dua Lipa did her best,...

As college campus protests ignite across the U.S. over the Israel-Palestine conflict, “SNL” weighed in with its cold open this week as Kenan Thompson played an incredulous parent of a Columbia University student.
Michael Longfellow acted as a reporter for Spectrum News New York 1 on “Community Affairs,” shining light on the ongoing protests throughout the country and their impact. Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner and Thompson were seated as parents weighing in on the state of the nation on college campuses. Longfellow’s character says, “College students have been protesting Israel’s actions in Gaza on campus across the nation. Tonight, we’ll be discussing with my guests who are parents of college students here.
Day played a New School parent, Gardner played a Hunter College mom and Thompson played a Columbia University dad. Longfellow launched into his questions, asking the parents how they felt about the protests on campus.

Saturday Night Live tackled the thorny issue of college protests this week — and thankfully, Kenan Thompson was there to find some laughs in it.
In Saturday’s cold open, Thompson played Alphonse, the father of a student at Columbia University who was a guest on a local talk show and initially came out as supportive of the pro-Palestinian protests. But when the host asked about his own daughter being in the protests, Alphonse just laughed: “Alexis Vanessa Roberts better have her butt in class.” He’s fine with other people’s kids protesting, but not his kid: “She ain’t talking about ‘Free this,...

Saturday Night Live‘s latest cold open centered on Columbia University’s handling of the pro-Palestinian protests on campus amid the Israel–Hamas war.
During the sketch, Mikey Day, Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner played concerned parents of students participating in the protests.
Last week, hundreds of demonstrators were arrested after the school’s president called the New York Police Department to help restore order on campus. Police cleared the university’s Hamilton Hall after protesters occupied the administration building earlier in the day.
After being asked their thoughts on the protests, Gardner initially responded, “It’s been tough. Now, I’m all for free speech, but I don’t understand what they think they’re accomplishing and that’s really putting a strain on me and my daughter’s relationship.”
Thompson later shared his thoughts: “Nothing makes me prouder than young people using their voices to fight for what they believe in.

Saturday Night Live tackled the college campus pro-Palestinian protests by taking aim at high education’s high tuition costs and questionable payoff.
Rather than tackle the Gaza issue itself, SNL instead went with the Pov of parents, featuring a spoof of a NY1 talk show roundtable of parents concerned about their children taking part in the demonstrations.
While two of the parents earnestly expressed worry over their kids but acknowledged their right to express themselves, Kenan Thompson played a Alphonso Roberts, a parent with a daughter at Columbia University, and a father who will have none of the disruption.
His daughter, he said, “better have her butt in class. Let me find out if she is in one of those damn tents instead of the dorm room I pay for.”
He added, “I am all in favor of you all’s kids protesting. My kids know better.”

On this week’s “Screen Talk,” co-hosts Ryan Lattanzio and Anne Thompson review new releases “The Fall Guy” (Universal), “Wildcat” (Oscilloscope), and “I Saw the TV Glow” (A24). While they both enjoyed David Leitch’s latest stunt-fest, starring Ryan Gosling as a movie stuntman and Emily Blunt as his director and ex-girlfriend, Thompson said the movie set in Sydney was well-mounted but a tad shallow and cartoony, while Lattanzio said it was not a challenging movie in any way, and that a series of showdowns and battles pile on at the end. Box office projections are all over the map, from $25-50 million. Upbeat word of mouth should carry the day.
Despite lukewarm Sundance reactions to Ethan Hawke’s “Wildcat” — which the actor-director-writer (“Blaze”) crafted specifically for his daughter, actress Maya Hawke, who plays Southern writer Flannery O’Connor — both Lattanzio and Thompson admired the movie,...

“Tarot” has the makings of a classic sleepover horror movie, fine-tuned for an astrology-obsessed Gen Z. When a group of friends accidentally read their horoscopes with the help of a cursed set of Tarot cards, scary symbols like “The Magician” and “The High Priestess” come to life and start haunting the group. Blending elements of classic supernatural slashers and the “Final Destination” movies, the film stars a game group of twentysomethings, including Harriet Slater, Jacob Batalon and Larsen Thompson.
Here, Thompson, who has also appeared in spooky projects such as the 2018 film “Bloodline” and the 2022 series “The Midnight Club,” reveals the tricks of the trade for surviving as an actor on the set of a horror film.

There is a lot of hype surrounding this month’s The Fall Guy, and considering it’s a tribute to the world of cinematic stunt work, it’s no surprise that Tuesday’s Los Angeles premiere pulled through, with stuntmen jumping through glass and leaping off balconies to dazzle the crowd before the movie even started. But Ryan Gosling had his own moment, reprising his runaway rendition of Beavis (to Mikey Day’s Butt-Head), bringing the metalhead slackers to one place you’d never expect to see them.
Appearing at The Fall Guy’s premiere, Gosling and Day stepped out as the characters, dressed from enormous head to toe just as they were on Saturday Night Live last month – although it is still a little bothersome that their Beavis and Butt-Head are in shirts that say “Death Rock” and “Skull”, since Beavis would always rock a Metallica shirt and...

Beavis and Butt-Head made an unexpected red carpet debut at the Los Angeles premiere of “The Fall Guy” on Tuesday night.
Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day appeared on the carpet together dressed as live-action versions of Beavis and Butt-Head, respectively, from the infamous “Saturday Night Live” sketch.
After initially posing for photos in a mint green monochromatic suit, Gosling disappeared while his “Fall Guy” co-star Emily Blunt, along with the rest of the cast and crew, did interviews. When he returned to the carpet, Gosling — wearing a prosthetic nose, blonde wig and Beavis’ signature “Death Rock” T-shirt — had a peculiar plus one by his side: Butt-Head (Day).

The number of late-night stars headed to Paris this summer has now doubled.
On the heels of Jimmy Fallon signing on to co-host the 2024 Olympics closing ceremonies, Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson has agreed to co-host his own show for the games alongside Kevin Hart.
Deadline reports the duo will host and executive-produce a comedic recap series for Peacock during the 2024 Olympics. “Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson” will feature interviews, in-studio competitions, and commentary on the Summer Games. Eight episodes have been ordered.
It’s familiar terrain for Hart, in two ways. He hosted a version of “Olympic Highlights” with Snoop Dogg for the 2020 Summer Olympics, and he previously teamed up with Thompson on the New Year’s Eve special “2022: Back That Year Up.” Like this latest series, each were produced for Peacock by Hart’s production company.

Just about any CEO panel these days will inevitably reach the topic of artificial intelligence, and today’s NewFront sit down with the leaders of five major news organizations was no exception.
But it was CNN Worldwide CEO Mark Thompson who warned of what was at stake.
“If we get it wrong, we’ll get disintermediated, and people will get our stuff one way or the other in the way that AI companies have scraped everything we have ever done anyway, and they will provide it in other ways and our businesses will collapse,” Thompson said. “If we get it right, it could be a golden age of news experiences for people in this country and around the world.”
Thompson talked of AI being used as a way where people can find content “easier and quicker.”
AI was among a number of challenges that the CEOs addressed at the event.

Poppy Harlow is exiting CNN after a morning show failure and sixteen years with the network. She had experienced a shakeup in 2022 and things just continued to go downhill. Now, she has made the decision to leave. Keep reading for all of the details.
Poppy Harlow Exiting CNN After Morning Show Failure
After sixteen years with CNN, Poppy Harlow is leaving and a lot has to do with a big shakeup that occurred in 2022. She had spent over five years co-hosting CNN Newsroom with Jim Sciutto and they made a great duo. Then, she was moved to an early morning slot alongside Don Lemon and Kaitlan Collins for CNN This Morning. Lemon had come from anchoring his own primetime show whereas Collins was a correspondent. Unfortunately, the match did not light and Lemon was starting to get into trouble. He then made an inappropriate comment about former presidential candidate, Nikki Haley.

The veteran anchor announced her departure in an email to colleagues Friday.
“Mark, Amy and the CNN management team have been wonderful and have given me the space to make this decision. “There’s been plenty written about what’s wrong with journalism, and the challenges our industry faces. And it does. But there is also so much right with it,” Harlow continued. “At the heart of everything we do is the pursuit of truth – it is the core of CNN. Annette Bening is a five-time Oscar nominee, having recently garnered a bid for her leading turn in Netflix’s biographical drama “Nyad.” Bening is clearly having a great year as she also features in Peacock’s limited series “Apples Never Fall,” which could bring her back to the Emmys for the first time since 2006.

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Mississippi), the former chair of the disbanded January 6 committee, has proposed a new bill that would strip the Secret Service of protection from convicted felons.
Thompson introduced the Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable (Disgraced) Former Protectees Act. The bill targets individuals convicted of felonies with a jail sentence of one year or more. With Republicans currently holding the majority, it is unlikely the bill will pass through the House.
In Thompson’s proposal, the representative named former President Donald Trump as someone who could lose Secret Service protection. Trump faces 91 felony charges across four state and federal cases, including his hush money trial.
Thompson stated, “Unfortunately, current law doesn’t anticipate how Secret Service protection would impact the felony prison sentence of a protectee—even a former President.”
Since 1965, former presidents and their spouses have been granted lifetime protection unless they decline.

It’s always fascinating when a movie with a top star, and directed by another star, goes as far under the radar as Steve Buscemi‘s “The Listener,” starring Tessa Thompson, has.
But in the case of this particularly gentle movie — available on VOD now for $6.99 — maybe that’s part of its DNA. Like the mental health helpline operator Thompson plays, this is a movie that’s there if you need it: Quiet, thoughtful, and totally shunning the kind of splashiness that most movies are thought to require these days to stand out.
“The Listener” premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2022, where it was the closing night film of the Venice Days sidebar. On April 13, it was the closing night film of the Sarasota Film Festival, out of competition — in this over 18-month festival journey, it’s also made stops at the festivals in Vienna, Thessaloniki, Stockholm, The Hague,...

In the late 1990s Joker writer-director Todd Phillips, then applying his trade as an underground documentary filmmaker shot a non-fiction project titled Frat House, which nabbed the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at Sundance before being promptly acquired by HBO Films.
“The premise of the documentary is that he pledged fraternities at colleges,” John Sloss, producer, founder and CEO of Cinetic Media, told an audience at the Sands Film Festival in St. Andrews, Scotland. He was discussing the pic as part of an onstage Q&a about the current state of documentary filmmaking alongside Molly Thompson, Head of Documentaries and Non-Fiction at Apple TV+, and Oscar-winning producer Melanie Miller.
Sloss had been representing Phillips at the time. Despite the early buzz surrounding the pic, it was never officially released. HBO shelved the project.

After Elvis and Priscilla Presley divorced, he began a relationship with Linda Thompson. These were among the most significant romantic relationships in his life. His bodyguards liked both Priscilla and Thompson, and they got to know them well enough to take note of the differences between them. They said Thompson was more comfortable with Elvis’ lifestyle than Pricilla.
Elvis’ friends said there was a key difference between Priscilla Presley and Linda Thomspon
Priscilla met Elvis when she was 14 years old and entered into an over-ten-year relationship with him. She moved to Graceland in the early 1960s and quickly began to feel lonely and confined. This feeling grew more intense over the years. Elvis was away from her for weeks at a time and, when he was home, he kept nocturnal hours and liked to stay in the house. She began to feel that she could never grow as a person...

Elvis Presley began dating Linda Thompson after his divorce from Priscilla Presley. The couple was together for years, and their relationship was serious enough that Thompson would have liked to get married. Elvis had no interest in that, though. He wanted Thompson to be aware that she wasn’t the only woman in his life.
Elvis Presley wanted Linda Thompson to know he was dating other women
When Elvis and Priscilla were together, he took great pains to deny his infidelity. While she was aware it was going on, he would never admit to it. He took a different approach with Thompson. While they were together, he openly dated other women, like Sheila Ryan.
“He would often alternate taking them on tour with him,” his bodyguard Sonny West said in the book Elvis: What Happened? by Steve Dunleavy. “One time he would take Linda, then the next time he would take Sheila.

It’s no surprise that playwright Sarah Ruhl would think of Taylor Mac, whose preferred gender pronoun is “judy” (with a lowercase “j”), to play the eponymous character in her stage adaptation of Orlando. In Virginia Woolf’s novel, written as a tribute to her lover Vita Sackville-West, a 16th-century English nobleman travels from the court of Queen Elizabeth I to Istanbul, where he changes gender and lives into the first quarter of the 20th century as a woman without aging beyond 30. In a program note for the production currently at the Signature Theater, Ruhl notes, “building an ensemble production around the divine center of Taylor Mac has been a profoundly happy experience.”
Mac is the performance artist and playwright best known for A 24-Decade History of Popular Music. That epic extravaganza of music and cabaret received numerous critical citations and was short-listed for the Pulitzer Prize in 2017. It was...

One of the most impressive parts of the April 13 episode of “Saturday Night Live” was Kenan Thompson’s ability not to break during the hilarious “Beavis and Butt-Head.” During the episode, a NewsNation anchor (Heidi Gardner) attempts to interview a professor (Thompson) about AI, but the conversation is interrupted when Thompson’s professor notices that two audience members, played by host Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day, look exactly like Beavis and Butt-Head.
While Gardner and Gosling couldn’t help but laugh through the duration of the sketch — which has been viewed more than 10 million times on YouTube in the five days since its air — Thompson somehow kept a straight face.
That was because he broke so hard during dress rehearsal, he tells Variety.
“It’s hit or miss. Sometimes I can hold it, sometimes I can’t. I got lucky on ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ that I cracked so hard at dress rehearsal,...

After Elvis and Priscilla Presley divorced, he invited her to one of his shows. His girlfriend, Sheila Ryan, was also in attendance, and he had the women sit together. While this was likely a little uncomfortable, Elvis’ behavior during the show would have made them forget about any awkwardness between them. He monologued about both women, and his bodyguard said they each looked very embarrassed.
