With Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes hitting theaters soon, I figured now would be as good a time as any to revisit the recent Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy and journey through Caesar’s story all over again before exploring Kingdom‘s take on the future of the world he created. The modern Planet of the Apes film are something of a pleasantly surprising enigma in popular culture.
In an age where many reboots either adhere so closely to the source material as to feel like a redundant carbon copy or stray so far as to be completely unrecognizable, the Apes trilogy manages to find that balance of maintaining the spirit of the original films while carving out an identity and a story all its own. But just how did they accomplish such a feat? Let’s find out.

2021's Fear Street trilogy proved to be a major success for Netflix, and amid persistent rumors that the streamer might be planning to develop more adaptations of R.L. Stine's work, we got confirmation that a Fear Street movie was in the works last November.
Netflix recently announced the full cast and a synopsis for Fear Street: Prom Queen (or Fear Street '88: Prom Queen as it's titled in this video), and the streamer has now revealed that filming is officially underway.
We also have a brief behind-the-scenes teaser featuring several members of the cast chatting about the show as they prepare to shoot their scenes. Something tells us their characters won't be having quite as much fun as Prom Night progresses.
Directed by Matt Palmer (Calibre), the ensemble cast includes India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono,...

When Avengers: Endgame Deleted Scene Showcased Rocket Raccoon Roasting The Avengers Over Their Fight Against Chitauri (Photo Credit – IMDb/Wikipedia)
The 2019 Avengers: Endgame created history by assembling many actors as heroes in one movie following 2018’s Infinity War. One of the best scenes included Rocket Raccoon’s conversations with the other Avengers stars, for example, when he was adamant about getting Bucky’s metal arm in the 2018 movie. But there was one scene in its sequel where the Guardians of the Galaxy character roasts the Avengers for their fight against the Chitauri army in the 2012’s The Avengers.
The 2019 movie is one of the highest-grossing films and an emotion for Marvel fans. The character Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, met the Avengers’ Thor in Infinity War, and their association continued in the next movie. 2023 was a rough year for Disney, with almost all of their films and shows losing at the box office or on streaming. The only real highlight was the third entry in the popular Guardians of the Galaxy series at Marvel. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made $845.6 Million worldwide against a budget of $250 Million. The film marked the last time director James Gunn helmed a Marvel project, and the last time the original cast would all be together on screen.
Since then, not only has James Gunn departed for Warner Bros. to head up their DC Universe of films, both Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) and Zoe Saldaña (Gamora) have expressed their desire to leave the series, leaving behind only Star Lord, Rocket and Groot from the original team.
However, not all feelings are negative, as Saldaña has expressed that she wants the series to continue. In a recent interview...

The third installment of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ hit theaters on May 5th, 2023, marking a significant success for the studio following the disappointing reception of ‘Quantumania’. Gunn initially proposed ideas for this final film in November 2014, later confirming his return as writer and director in April 2017.
However, Disney dismissed him from the project in July 2018 due to controversial Twitter posts, only to reinstate him by October of the same year. His comeback was announced publicly in March 2019, and production resumed once he completed his work on DC’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘Peacemaker’ series. Despite the movie’s success, Gunn had no plans to remain in the MCU, as he had already been appointed co-chairman and co-ceo of DC Studios, gearing up to lead a new and revamped DC Universe, replacing the existing Dceu.
In the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, by the movie’s conclusion, most of the team embarked on their own paths.

Zoe Saldaña doesn’t think Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is gone for good. The actress said this week it would be a “huge loss” for the MCU to say goodbye to its ragtag group of intergalactic heroes.
“I would think it would be a huge loss for Marvel if they didn’t find a way to bring back the Guardians of the Galaxy,” Saldaña said in an appearance on The Playlist. “It’s just such a fan-favorite group of misfits, you know? And then at the helm, they had a voice like James Gunn’s writing — which is just so marvelous for and very specific for this genre.”
Saldaña played Gamora in Marvel’s three Guardians films. Alongside her, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Rocket the Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) made up the original Guardians. The group, including Gamora, also appeared in several other MCU installments,...

Director Leigh Janiak and the Netflix streaming service brought us a really fun horror event back in the summer of 2021 with the Fear Street trilogy. Three films that were filmed back-to-back-to-back and then released over the course of three weeks – those films being Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. It was an instant franchise, and had the potential to lead to many more films… because, after all, author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. A while back, Scott Stuber, the head of Netflix Film, said they were developing a new standalone Fear Street project. Then Stine took to social media to reveal that the fourth Fear Street movie would be based on his 1992 book The Prom Queen… and now Fear Street: Prom Queen has a cast! Netflix has announced (via Deadline) that the...

Guardians of the Galaxy concluded its trilogy with the release of Vol. 3, delivering an emotionally charged finale. Notably, this marked James Gunn’s farewell to the MCU following his dismissal over old Tweets, subsequently taking the reins of the revitalized Dcu. Throughout the film, pivotal members of the Guardians chose divergent paths.
Gamora rejoined the Ravagers, Quill returned to Earth, Mantis embarked on a personal quest, and Nebula and Drax remained on Knowhere, safeguarding the children rescued from High Evolutionary’s experiments. The core team now comprises Groot and Rocket, with Rocket assuming leadership, while Adam Warlock, Phyla-Vel, Blurp, and Kraglin replaced many familiar faces.
Despite the significant shift, fans clung to hope for past Guardians’ cameos in future MCU ventures. However, James Gunn quashed such expectations on Instagram. When questioned by a fan about continuing the GotG legacy and his relationship with Kevin Feige, Gunn unequivocally expressed his desire...

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ concluded the trilogy with the release of Vol. 3, and it was an extremely emotional movie. First and foremost, it was Gunn’s last MCU movie after he was fired due to some old Tweets that got uncovered and before he took over the newly revamped Dcu. Second, as we could see over the course of the movie, half of the core members of Guardians decided to part ways and pursue other things in the Universe.
With Gamora returning to Ravagers, Quill returning to Earth, Mantis leaving the team to discover what she really wants, and Nebula and Drax staying on Knowhere to take care of the legion of children they saved from High Evolutionary’s experiments. Last week sadly and rather suddenly we lost the great Keith Giffen. There will only ever be one Keith Giffen. He was a creator who as writer and artist has left behind a legacy of amazing comics. He had runs on comics, that are legendary. Runs that inspired the next generation. Runs that reinvented the wheel. Runs that defined characters and still define them today across all media. Runs that included the creation of some of comics greatest and most loved characters. So as Keith pulls his chair up to the great drawing board in the sky we look back on the man behind this outstanding career.
I have to confess I haven’t really read much of Giffen’s work. It is a shame that his passing sees me wanting to rectify the situation. However it does speak volumes about the legacy of work he leaves behind, that I...

Keith Giffen, the longtime comics author and artist who co-created popular characters such as DC’s Lobo and the Jamie Reyes version of the Blue Beetle as well as Marvel’s Rocket Raccoon, has died. He was 70.
His family announced his death Wednesday on Facebook via a sardonic post pre-written by Giffen: “I told them I was sick…Anything not to go to New York Comic Con, Thanx,” adding “Bwah ha ha ha ha.”
The cause of death is being attributed to a stroke.
Giffen is best known for writing and drawing galaxy-spanning adventure book Legion of Super-Heroes in the 1980s and 1990s, at one point making the title one of DC’s top sellers. He was also the artist on early 1980s title Omega Men in which he and writer Roger Slifer introduced Lobo. At first a brutal villain, he was later turned into a parody of overly muscle-bound...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 closed the book on that particular Marvel franchise, with several of the actors confirming that the threequel would be the last time they would portray their characters. However, that’s not to say that they don’t have any unfinished business. One of the MCU’s most beloved characters, Groot, has returned to the small screen once again as the second season of the animated short series I am Groot has been released on Disney+. If a series were centered on any other B-tier character of any other existing MCU IP (read Agatha), I would have gone on a rant about the MCU overexploiting its characters, but Groot is special, even among the ragtag ensemble known as The Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, unsurprisingly, the only two good ventures the MCU has released this year are based on characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, the first being the final, third installment of the movie series, and the second being this compilation of shorts we are going to discuss.
I am Groot is the fourth release of the ongoing fifth phase of the MCU’s storytelling, but chronologically, it falls right...

Marvel officially confirmed the post-Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 return of Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon.
After taking the spotlight earlier this year in the Guardians threequel, many have questioned when Cooper's space-faring trash panda would pop back up in the super-powered universe.
Despite speculation his character would die in Guardians 3, quite the opposite happened. Rocket is now poised to lead a new version of the Guardians team.

Vin Diesel is making a quick return to the role of everyone’s favorite Flora Colossus after last appearing in the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
As Rocket once put it, Groot’s “vocabulistics [are] limited” to mainly being able to say the phrase “I am Groot,” leaving Diesel - who has provided the voice for Groot in all of his MCU appearances, - with the continuing challenge of conveying what his character is trying to say. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t have some fun in the process.

With the insane games that the various streaming platforms are pulling in terms of removing content from their services (sometimes projects that were made specifically for those platforms), an added emphasis has been placed on home video. And with good reason. The only way you can insure that the movies you love will be around is by owning them on Blu-ray. Thankfully the home video labels have been stepping up their game, with deluxe packages overflowing with extras and feature films presented in their best possible format.

Mumbai, Aug 23 (Ians) Actor Rohit Bose Roy, who has voiced Peter Quill in all the three Hindi versions of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise, said that he enjoyed voicing Chris Pratt’s character of Peter Quill as his character is similar to what he is in real life.
Rohit said: “Voicing Chris Pratt in the role of Peter Quill or Star-Lord was so much fun because his character is similar to what I am in real life- fun, engaging and a little cocky. I remember the first time I dubbed for Peter Quill, they were so excited about my voice on Chris Pratt’s face that I became his unofficial voice across India.

You’ve got a while to wait before you can see Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein film “Maestro.” The drama makes its world premiere on Sept. 2 at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, followed by a limited theatrical run stateside in November ahead of its Netflix debut. But you can tide yourself over with the first trailer — watch it at the top of the page now.
Described as “a love letter to life and art” and “an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love,” “Maestro” will undoubtedly chart the ups and downs of the Bernsteins’ relationship, with Leonard living a very complicated life as a closeted gay man who still loved and looked after his wife of many years (they had three children together).
Cooper, who directed and produced the film, and also co-wrote the screenplay with Josh Singer, plays Bernstein, with Carey Mulligan as Bernstein’s wife Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein.

This Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 article contains spoilers.
“The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” With that declaration, viewers of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 breathed a sigh of relief. We went into the final movie in James Gunn‘s Marvel trilogy, his final MCU film before co-heading DC Studios for Warner Bros, expecting a few deaths. And yet, despite some close calls, all of the Guardians survive the ordeal, even if the band breaks up in the end, with Peter returning to Earth, Gamora rejoining the Ravagers, and Drax and Nebula staying on Knowhere.
In the movie’s first post-credit scene, we get a glimpse at Guardians 2.0, led by Rocket and featuring new recruits Phyla-Vell and Adam Warlock alongside old hands Kraglin and Groot, suggesting that the MCU is not quite done with the team of galactic misfits. But as of this writing, there are no official plans...

Welcome back to another Blu-ray round-up. Every other week I try to bring you the best new Blu-ray releases; releases you might want to pick up for yourself and add to your growing collection. This week's line-up is eclectic, to say the least. There's a new Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel; there's a "John Wick"-like action flick; there's a '90s comedy that used to play on TV all the time back in the day; and there's a horror cult classic getting the 4K treatment. So come along with me once again as we dive into the wonderful world of Blu-rays. Because remember: streaming comes and goes, but physical media is forever.

Mumbai, Aug 3 (Ians) James Gunn, the director and writer of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3’, has shared that he feels really close to the character of Rocket in the film.
In the new film, Rocket Raccoon’s turbulent past catches up as the movie presents a visual and emotional roller coaster.

Note: Light spoilers ahead for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” may mark the end of the Guardians as we know them, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t continuing on. In fact, the film’s post-credits tag makes it explicitly clear that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” Now, you might be wondering if the word “legendary” signifies something important, or maybe someone new — and those instincts would be right.
The good news is “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” doesn’t actually kill off any of the Guardians, as many expected it to. There were a few scares between Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), but ultimately, they all survived. That said, they did kind of break up.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn fulfills the promise he made at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, when we spied a metal incubator in the chambers of Sovereign leader Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) that housed the artificial superbeing Adam Warlock. Now in the conclusion of Gunn’s trilogy, Adam emerges – albeit prematurely – from his cocoon, charged by his mother and the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) with destroying the Guardians and returning Rocket (Bradley Cooper) to the latter, who created Rocket as part of his vile attempts at creating a perfect race.

In January 2017, Pharrell Williams and his wife, Helen Lasichanh, welcomed not one, not two, but three little ones, making their eldest son, Rocket Ayer Williams, an older brother times three! Since the birth of the triplets, Williams and Lasichanh, who've been married for just shy of a decade, have made a conscious effort to keep their children out of the limelight. Over the past few years, however, Williams has shared small glimpses at what it's been like doubling their household in size, jumping from a family of three to a family of six.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" closes out the arcs for the titular band of misfits in ways that complement their individual journeys, while making space for one last adventure together to save their dear friend, Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper). Although not a perfect film, as it does not always know what to do with its characters, there's much to love about "Vol. 3," including its unforgettably menacing High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). What makes Iwuji's antagonist so compelling is that he's not some dude with a sob story to justify his brand of evil. Instead, he is simply a twisted scientist who is aware of his cruelties in the name of evolutionary progress. There's no struggle with morality here, nor any glimmers of remorse, as High Evolutionary is as dedicated to his nefarious cause as the superheroes are to saving the galaxy.

Longtime James Gunn fans might have felt a twinge of recognition while watching "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" when our heroes don multicolored space suits and traipse around on a giant, fleshy planetoid called the Orgoscope. A living planet isn't exactly new to the MCU (Star-Lord's father was one himself), but the Orgoscope is something different. It's not a celestial body, more an organic one, made up of living tissue. Gross, irritated skin, coarse hair and nasty follicles, that kind of thing.
The Guardians need to infiltrate this organic ... thing ... in order to retrieve information that could very well save Rocket's life. It's a gross job, but a necessary one.
So, when they approached building this particularly disgusting location, you'd think they would have some leverage go a little cartoony with it. I mean, there's not a lot of fleshy, hairy planetoids out there to compare this one to,...

This post contains spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
The third and final chapter of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy is a pretty somber movie. Between including a goodbye to several of the Guardians, exploring Rocket's (Bradley Cooper) tragic backstory in sob-inducing detail, and hinging its climax around the ruthless demolition of an entire planet, the movie definitely leans a little more towards deep emotion than levity. It's a gambit that works, but when two great comedic actors were on screen, I couldn't help but wish they had a few more jokes to work with.
The duo in question here is Miriam Shor and Nico Santos, two actors who play The High Evolutionary's (Chukwudi Iwuji) sometimes-scheming sidekicks. With their cyberkinetic enhancements, mad scientist outfits, and desperate need for moisturizer, Vim (Shor) and Theel (Santos) are more scary than funny. Yet the performers under the...

If you need a little more Guardians of the Galaxy to get you through the weekend, Karen Gillan has you covered. The actress has posted a fun 25-minute vlog which takes you through a week of Nebula’s life on the recent Marvel movie set. The video finds Karen Gillan explaining the Nebula makeup process, making her way through the set, and shooting scenes. If you haven’t seen the movie, there are a few spoilery moments, so be warned.
“I’ve decided to make this vlog, because I essentially snuck my iPad onto the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and decided to film all of this behind-the-scenes footage, and I totally got in trouble for doing it,” Karen Gillan said in the introduction. “I haven’t really seen that many behind the scenes Marvel things, but I have to assume I have gotten about as close...

If we are being completely honest, as the protagonist of MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, the part human, part celestial Peter Quill, is the least interesting character of the team. Despite that, this Han Solo wannabe with goofy Casanova mannerisms was given the most importance compared to the rest of the team members due to his being the leader and the founding member of the team. On the other side of the spectrum, there is the intergalactic assassin Gamora, the adopted daughter of the mad Titan, Thanos—a significantly interesting character who was given too little to work with in most of her appearances. Both of these characters fell in love with each other through the course of the first two “Guardians” movies and played crucial roles in the biggest mega-crossover event of the MCU, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
