Summertime tends to be a quieter yet exciting period for the average TV viewer, as the broadcast season hiatus leaves room for big streaming and cable offerings to take center stage.
There might be a bit of a decrease in output now that the Emmy submission period is over, but there’s no lack of new and returning shows across broadcast, streaming and cable this summer. While the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will keep the world’s attention in late july, the return of Amazon’s “The Boys” and HBO’s “House of the Dragon” will surely have fans talking throughout the next few months, while new shows like “Star Wars” spin-off “The Acolyte” on Disney+ and the animated “Terminator Zero” hope to burst into the zeitgeist. Broadcast will also have some returning favorites with new seasons like “The Bachelorette” and more.

The Pearl Thief is billed as a sweeping, epic story love and betrayal set between 1939 and the early 1960s. Saunders-Weinberg acquired the rights and took the project to Nine Perfect Strangers maker Made Up Stories, which then attached Drake to the project.
Synopsis reads: “The stakes are high in this gripping novel set between the city of Prague and its snowy woodlands on the cusp of World War II, and later in the streets of Paris, London, and the heather-covered moors of Yorkshire in 1963.”
The plot will follow Katerina, a museum curator determined to overcome the trauma of her past and avenge the pain inflicted upon those she loved and those she’ll never know.

Eric Trump, the son of former President Donald Trump, was criticized for posting a statement about his family’s “sacrifice” on social media.
In a post on X on May 24, Eric replied to another post made on the same day by the pro-maga X account.
The post included an image of himself, his wife, Lara Trump, his father, former first lady Melania Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and his fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle standing together.
“The family that gave up everything to Save America,” the caption in Freedom’s post read. “Thank You!”
“And we will do it again,” the former president’s son wrote in response to the post.
During Memorial Day weekend, X users slammed Eric for the out-of-touch statement.

The first African-American president and a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, Barack Obama has already made his mark on U.S. history. But that doesn’t stop the President of the U.S. to donate his time and volunteer wherever he can.
Last year, Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian efforts and for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy.
He spoke at an event for K.I.D.S., a charity supporting disadvantaged children. He says of the charity, “It is time for a sense of empathy to infuse our politics in America… K.I.D.S. has spent over 20 years making this a reality. Now it is time for the rest of us to catch up. I look forward to making that happen.”

BET is planning to shine a light on the upcoming presidential election, with what it hopes will be a series of primetime election specials.
The first of those specials, “What’s At Stake: 2024 Election Special,” will debut June 4 at 10 p.m., on BET, BET Her, and VH1.
The special will be hosted by BET correspondent Ed Gordon, and will feature a roundtable discussion with Rep. Maxine Waters (D-ca), Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-oh), and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-tx), all members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
“I think clearly it’s an interesting time for the nation,” Gordon tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “Not just for the Black electorate, but for all of us, this question of democracy and where we stand and so BET felted it doubly important to make sure that we got in front of giving the Black viewer in particular what is needed to think about...

Even though it’s not the guest stars who make the show, but the regular cast, there is some magic about one-episode characters played by someone the audience knows and loves. Just like every major procedural on TV that has been running long enough, NCIS had its fair share of actors, hosts and even political figures joining the team.
Here are 8 biggest names who have joined the NCIS family throughout the years, and where exactly in the show you can find them.
Troian Bellisario
Best known for her portrayal of Spencer Hastings in Pretty Little Liars, Bellisario appeared in two episodes of NCIS as Agent McGee's sister, Sarah. Her appearance on the show before her big break is easy to explain, as Troian is the daughter of Donald P. Bellisario, the mastermind behind both Jag and NCIS.

Former President Barack Obama made a surprise appearance at the White House state dinner on Thursday. The list of distinguished guests included former President and First Lady Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, actor LeVar Burton, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and more. Around 500 people attended the event on the White House’s South Lawn.
The White House welcomed Kenyan President William Ruto and first lady Rachel Ruto. Other notable Kenyan figures attended, as did the Rutos’ three daughters. President Joe Biden honored the Rutos in his toast and quoted former President Jimmy Carter‘s 1980 speech when another Kenyan president was invited to the White House.
“Neighbors do not share a border but share beliefs,” Biden said. Biden’s speech honored the alliance between the United States and Kenya. A state dinner is one of the most significant ways a president can acknowledge the importance of a foreign power.

A background in D.C. politics just might be better preparation for Survivor than any wilderness training, at least former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett had better hope so.
Lovett, the speechwriter-turned-Pod Save America regular turned up in a rather unlikely place last night: The preview trailer for the Season 47 installment of CBS’ Survivor.
Lovett was one of the new contestants revealed in the preview. “I have no outdoor skills,” he said, looking into the camera. “What am I doing here? I went camping as a cub scout. I threw up and went home.”
Watch the clip above.
Lovett was not identified in the preview, but his Crooked Media co-founder and former Obama colleague Jon Favreau pulled no punches, posting the show preview on X and writing, “What did I tell you? Eat Pray Lovett.”

Brian Wallach has more fight in him, more grit, than seems humanly possible.
The attorney and former Obama White House staffer was diagnosed with Als at the age of 37. He could easily have resigned himself to a cruel and unfair fate at that point, but instead he and his wife Sandra Abrevaya chose to battle on – not just for themselves and their family, but to benefit everyone affected by Als and other conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Their story is told in the documentary For Love & Life: No Ordinary Campaign, which premieres May 28 on Prime Video.
Watch the interview here and see photos from the event below.
“I am most proud of the fact that we took a disease that nobody knew and made it a centerpiece in the fight against neurodegenerative diseases,” Wallach said as he made an appearance at the Deadline Studio at Prime Experience in Hollywood.

Just in case you weren’t sure where Jimmy Kimmel stood in the upcoming presidential election, he’s making it explicit, taking part in an upcoming fundraiser that will see him in conversation with President Biden and Former President Obama.
The event, which is scheduled to take place June 15th in Los Angeles, comes on the heels of a New York event hosted by Kimmel’s late-night competitor Stephen Colbert. That event, which saw Colbert interview Biden, Obama and Bill Clinton at Radio City Music Hall, raised a record-setting $26 million for Biden’s reelection campaign.
A venue hasn’t yet been announced for Kimmel’s event, but it’s set to include at least two other Hollywood heavy hitters in George Clooney and Julia Roberts, who are being billed as “special guests.”

Oliver Stone is in Cannes today for a Special Screening of Lula, a documentary he co-directed with Rob Wilson about the unbelievable comeback of Brazilian leader Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva. The film chronicles his extraordinary journey in 2022 to regain the Brazilian presidency after spending 19 months in prison. This happened after a hacker exposed a conspiracy meant to take down the labor leader in a corruption scandal that tied back to Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and the most powerful judge in the country. It’s a story you have to see to believe.
Here, Stone discusses his film, and how the four-time Oscar winner hopes to mount one final major drama after a career spanning Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Wall Street, JFK, Natural Born Killers and so many others. He also revisits his position on Vladimir Putin, whom he interviewed extensively several years ago, in light of...

I’m going to tell you something that will instantly rattle a millennial body to its core: “Glee,” the Fox musical dramedy that became a phenomenon before becoming a dark cultural tale, premiered 15 years ago, on May 19, 2009.
To make you feel slightly better about the passage of time, that date is a bit of a cheat: Because Fox suspected it had an honest-to-goodness hit on its hands, the network premiered the first episode after the “American Idol” Season 8 finale in May, before beginning the full season a few months later in September.
Still, May 19 was the day the world first was re-reminded of the wonder of “Don’t Stop Believin,’” witnessed the instantly iconic combo of cringe and charisma that was Rachel Berry/Lea Michele, and considered the shocking declaration that someone could be both an athlete and a singer.

When Chief Keef released his mixtape Almighty So in 2013, Obama was still president and the then-18-year-old Chicago Mc was something of a symbol for street violence, viral fame, and rap’s new cacophonous young generation. The tape, while far from a critical darling, solidified Keef, who’d risen to fame with his hit single “Don’t Like,” released when he was just 16, as a moment-defining talent. Fast forward more than a decade, two presidents, and a “vibe shift” later and Keef, now 29, has begun to age gracefully into an elder statesman of the genre.

The board of the Federal Communications Commission. (Still frame via web video)
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Thursday voted to restore Obama-era network neutrality rules that reclassify Internet service providers like Comcast and Charter under Title II of the Communications Act.
The vote was along party lines, with three commissioners voting in favor of the restoration of network neutrality rules and two commissioners dissenting.
Supporters of the measure, including some within the FCC, said a restoration of network neutrality rules would ensure Internet traffic is treated equitably and indiscriminately. Those proponents include Consumer Reports, which responded positively to the FCC’s vote on Thursday.
“Access to a fast, reliable, and affordable internet connection is more essential to Americans than ever. Broadband is a telecommunications service and should be regulated as such,” Justin Brookman, the Director for Technology Policy at Consumer Reports, said in a statement. “The Title II...

Barron Trump is in the enviable position of being a nepo baby, with a former Potus and a supermodel for parents.
This means he is intimately familiar with private jets, deluxe parties, and a big allowance.
But being a public figure is not all wine and roses, with a lack of privacy and public expectations a couple of the downsides.
Barron, the only child of Donald and Melania Trump is noticeably private despite all the perks of his privileged lifestyle. Here are three huge signs that Barron hates being in the bright lights.
Barron’s Lack of Celebrity Friendships
When Malia and Sasha Obama were First Kids, they were photographed with celebs like Justin Bieber, Janelle Monae, Drake, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, and Tom Hanks.

Ben Rhodes, the former Deputy National Security Adviser to President Barack Obama, has raised concerns about Jared Kushner’s alleged corruption in his $3 billion investment fund, predominantly financed by foreign sources.
Kushner’s firm received a $2 billion investment from a Saudi sovereign wealth fund shortly after he departed from the White House, serving as a senior adviser to his father-in-law, Donald Trump.
During an interview with MSNBC’s Alex Wagner, Rhodes expressed his unease, “This is just putting a price tag on American foreign policy… This is a level of corruption that we’ve just never seen, and it’s hiding in plain sight.”
Earlier in the program, Wagner highlighted that Kushner’s firm had been involved with foreign interests and cited its engagements in hotel developments in Serbia and Albania. Across the sprawling city of Los Angeles — within feet of children’s bedrooms, playgrounds, office buildings, and places of worship — there’s an oil well, exuding toxins that put nearby residents at risk of asthma attacks, reproductive issues, and multiple types of cancer. The evidence stacked against Big Oil is alarming, and after more than 130 years since drilling began in the town of flowers and sunshine, the Los Angeles city council unanimously voted to phase out drilling in January 2021.
In response, oil and gas companies collected enough signatures for a referendum to challenge the legislation.

Right-wing Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Florida) is on Donald Trump‘s shortlist as a potential vice presidential pick.
Donald is said to be one of Trump’s most trusted surrogates and has been a loyalist of the former president.
However, old posts from Donalds’ Facebook page show the representative criticizing Trump. In 2011, one of Donalds’ posts says, “Trump won’t run. Thank God!” The post referenced Trump’s decision not to run against former President Barack Obama.
Other posts of Donalds directly attacking Trump on social media and in interviews from 2011 to 2012. Donalds was a Tea Party member and ran for Congress at the time. Donalds called out Trump’s trade policies and his birtherism conspiracy theory about Obama.
In the past, Donalds supported the privatization of programs such as Social Security and Medicare, calling them “vouchers.”
In April 2011, Donalds wrote, “Trump is a huge distraction and cares more about himself...

Former President Bill Clinton plans to debut a memoir about his experiences after his presidency, with with publication date set for November 19.
In a statement, the former president said that the memoir, Citizen: My Life After the White House, “is the story of my twenty-three-plus years since leaving the White House, told largely through the stories of other people who changed my life as I tried to help change theirs, of those who supported me, including those I loved and lost, and of the mistakes I made along the way.”
Alfred A. Knopf will publish the memoir, which it says will be “remarkably candid” and “richly detailed.” While Clinton writes about major issues and cultural wars since he left office, the publisher also indicated that Clinton will share his experiences during the 2008 and 2016 elections, when his wife, Hillary Clinton, ran for the presidency. The nearly year-long span from discovering Janet Planet‘s existence to seeing a single frame was fraught with worry. What if the extraordinarily talented Annie Baker fumbled her transition into filmmaking? Nothing catastrophic, surely––no sane person’s faulting Michael Jordan for his minor-league stint––but to paraphrase Kent Jones on John Carpenter: America doesn’t have so many great directors to spare that it can afford Annie Baker failing.
From frame one it was clear no such thing would happen. Janet Planet‘s a case study in a genius trying a new medium––base understanding of its what and how and why, but lack of precedent or traditional method yielding something rather new. Ahead of the film’s June 21 limited release, A24 have released a first trailer, albeit one that sells a different movie: scored by the Roches’ “Hammond Song” and cut to emphasize some wittier dialogue, it...

Last month, we reported that David Freyne was set to direct a dystopian-type rom-com with A24 and that the movie was going to be titled Eternity. The story of the movie was described as a “romantic comedy where everyone must decide who they want to spend eternity with,” with the script being written by former Obama aide Pat Cunnane. At the time, this was all the official information we actually had about the upcoming movie, as a production date had not been revealed; a release window had not been revealed either.
But, it seems that A24 is fast-tracking the movie, as some new information about it has appeared. First of all, we know that Oscar-nominated producers Trevor White and Tim White from Star Thrower Entertainment will produce the film for A24, and it seems that we have a confirmed cast, as well as a filming date at this moment.

Stephen Colbert’s sit-down with Presidents Biden, Obama and Clinton at last night’s fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall proved to be every bit the draw the Biden campaign had hoped for.
According to campaign officials, the sold-out event raised a record-setting $26 million-plus for Biden’s reelection campaign.
Colbert’s on-stage discussion with the three presidents was at turns both serious and funny, with each warning of the possible perils of a second Trump presidency. In the photo-op of the night, Colbert, Clinton and Obama joined Biden in wearing his trademark aviator sunglasses.
Tickets to the fundraiser, which also featured appearances from Mindy Kaling, Queen Latifah, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo and Lea Michele, ranged in price from $225 up to $500,000 a seat, with those contributing at higher levels offered the opportunity to have their photo taken together with all three Democratic presidents.

Kobi Libii’s debut feature The American Society of Magical Negroes starts on a promising note. Aren, a spindly and awkward artist (an endearing Justice Smith) loiters near a yarn sculpture in a gallery. He seems lost in the sea of roving patrons and bustling waiters. It takes a second for us to realize that Aren created the meditative wool work and is struggling to sell it to the mostly white collectors attending this group show. They find the abstract piece illegible; they repeatedly ask about the material (“Is it … yarn?”) while maintaining a distance. These brief encounters are a clever jab by Libii at a visual art world historically enamored of Black figurative artists.
Minor drama ensues after Aren is mistaken for a server by a patron and unceremoniously fired by his gallerist. Before he can think straight, the dejected artist finds himself touring the gothic halls of The American Society of Magical Negroes,...

3 Body Problem is the most recent sci-fi show to successfully get a majority of the sci-fi fans in its hold. Created by the showrunners of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D. B. What’s more interesting is the fact that this series almost earned a cameo from none other than the former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama. Update: Protesters interrupted President Joe Biden’s conversation with his predecessors, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, a signature feature of the blockbuster fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall.
The disruption isn’t all that surprising, given that many of Biden’s events have seen hecklers calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. This time, according to a pool report, one of the protesters was yelling obscenities about a nuclear war with Russia. Other protesters interrupted over the situation in Gaza.
When one protester interrupted, Obama snapped back, “You can’t just talk and not listen… That’s what the other side does.”
Stephen Colbert, moderating the conversation, first asked what was at stake in the election.

Joe Biden’s New York fundraiser this evening with Barack Obama and Bill Clinton is expected to raise more than $25 million, an enormous haul for a one-evening event.
Biden’s reelection campaign has heavily promoted the Radio City Music Hall gathering, which will include musical performances by Queen Latifah, Ben Platt, Lizzo, Cynthia Erivo and Lea Michele, among others.
Around 5,000 are expected to attend the event, while the campaign also has been raising smaller-dollar contributions via an online contest in which participants could win a trip to New York and a photo with the three presidents. Proceeds go to the Biden Victory Fund, a joint committee of the Biden Campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state parties. The fund accepts individual donations up to $929,600.

Last week, former President Barack Obama recently paid a visit to President Joe Biden at the White House, where they discussed the upcoming election, voicing concern about Biden’s campaign. Obama’s return to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue served primarily as a working visit, as he joined Biden and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on a call to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (Aca).
In the call, Obama expressed his belief that Biden’s State of the Union remarks had been effective and resonated with the public. He also highlighted the significance of health care as a politically influential issue in the upcoming election. The campaign has recorded additional content that features both presidents, which will be released in the coming weeks.

Joe Lieberman, the former Connecticut senator and Al Gore’s Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000, has died. He was 82.
His family said in a statement that he died due to complications from a fall.
“Senator Lieberman’s love of God, his family and America endured throughout his life of service in the public interest,” his family said. His wife, Hadassah, and other family members were at his side when he died, according to the statement.
At the time of his death, Lieberman was leading an effort to recruit a candidate for the group No Labels, which has been seeking a “unity” ticket to run independently of the Democratic and Republican parties.
Lieberman held to the view that, even in a time of hyper polarization, there was a common ground to be found in politics. His own career reflected that, and even those who criticized his positions found him friendly, kind and polite.

Maher, host of HBO’s Real Time, is teaming with his co-creators and executive producer Chris Case and Chuck Labella in the venture, with plans to feature celebrity talent who want to “try something different and span a wide variety of personalities and interests,” according to an announcement.
Club Random Studios, as the venture is named, will debut The Sage Steele Show later today. In a statement, Maher said that the former ESPN anchor is “the perfect choice to be our first new host because, like me, she pissed off Disney. There’s a certain poetic symmetry to that.”
Maher said, “My lifelong goal has been to get the kind of conversation we have in life – utterly real, completely authentic, cleaned up for no one – on the air.

Based on the sprawling 2006 sci-fi novel "The Three-Body Problem" by Liu Cixin, Netflix's new series "3 Body Problem" is an ambitious tale that takes place across multiple time frames, and boasts an interweaving narrative involving space aliens, an invasion from the planet Trisolaris, and a strange, climate-disaster-themed virtual reality video game. Cixin's novel was the first in a three-book series called "Remembrance of Earth's Past," a series with deeply involved mythology complex enough to rival "Dune." One might require a quick read-up on the Fermi Paradox, the Alcubierre Drive, and notions of quantum entanglement before cracking it.
All eight episodes of "3 Body Problem" will debut on the same day, and it looks to be as ambitious as the book. The series will star notable actors like Benedict Wong, Jovan Adepo, Eiza González, Rosalind Chao, and Jonathan Pryce. The showrunners, perhaps to save themselves massive headaches, have declared openly...
